I am very late to this but I have recently built my Sega collection to having a master system, Genesis, 32X, Saturn, and a Dreamcast. I love my Saturn and these videos have helped me a TON to know what to build my collection. Thank you guys.
My favorite thing about the Sega Saturn is breaking the region lock coding with the Action Replay Plus RAM cartridge, which allows you to play English and Japanese Sega Saturn games. I love that feature. ^_^
Princess Crown was made by Vanillaware and published by Atlus. If you haven't, you should check out the other Vanillaware games: Odin Sphere on PS2, and Dragon's Crown on PS3/Vita and Muramasa: The Demon Blade on the Wii and Vita. These are all wonderful games with beautiful hand drawn art and interesting, fun gameplay. The guy who is the head of Vanillaware (George Kamitani) also helped make some of the arcade versions of Dungeons and Dragons.
Also worth noting, as of yesterday there is now a English patched version of princess crown on the Saturn for everyone who's using a Saroo or ODE. Can't wait to try it
+thehaxfactory I've noticed that a lot too. A Japanese version, shipped straight from Nippon all in costs LESS than a domestic version, I'll buy that instead.
Yeah. I just recently learned he co-wrote the film Monster House with Dan Harmon. The two of them also did the famous "I attack the darkness!" D&D thing.
Wow, I'm late on this. SCUD isn't a blob, he's a robot. I don't know if the game explains it, but he's from a dystopian future where you can hire robots from vending machines to go kill someone and then explode, leaving no trace. SCUD is hired to go kill a target and then, in the middle, reads the label on his back saying he explodes if he kills his target. So, he wounds his target and then spends the rest of the book taking free-lance hit jobs to pay for the life support to keep his target, and himself, alive. The book was written and drawn by Rob Schrab who is a hollywood guy now. (Monster House, The Sarah Silverman Project, etc.) As Indie comics go, it's really pretty great and super weird. When you have everything being controlled by one guy, it winds up being really stream-of-conciousness.
I started looking at the Saturn with different eyes after your first video... always Nintendo back then... now I'm discovering it, playing it and loving it :-) 2D Saturn games are a joy to look at, even today.
A few months ago there was one of the main English translators of policenauts was on the show and he talked about how he learned to program a bit to translate the game. Totally worth listening to. Also awesome hidden gems. I have a lot of love for the Saturn.
I get so pumped when I see a new video and when you talk about a system I don't have I instantly want to hunt it down. You do a great job of explaining games without ruining the story
I actually really miss this system especially dragon force which I know you covered in different vids but god so much nostalgia I was 8 when Saturn and ps1 came out. Groundbreaking is an understatement these systems changed gaming forever my older bros and I were just in awe of both consoles.
I want that shirt Metal Jesus. Thanks for this list. I'm wanting to start collecting retro systems and games and I'm wanting to start with the Saturn first.
Oh man! Mr. Bones! I played the hell out of that game. The cut scenes blew me away as a kid. It was a really hard game too, but I managed to beat. I replayed it recently and it has aged poorly, but it will always be a part of my childhood. Great memories!
I just recently picked up my first ever Saturn and these vids are a great help with what games I should start with! I won't lie, I got my eyes trained on a copy of Policenauts! :)
I was a Saturn kid! Never got a ton of games for it though. It's interesting to see what I missed! My fave back in the day was the Panzer Dragoon series. I never played Orta, but I had the first one and Zwei. Bit of a rail shooter, but it's absolutely beautiful. To this day I still listen to the soundtrack on TH-cam.
I had three dirty dwarves for Saturn. It was fantastic. Reminded me of the battletoad games and playing with friends was awesome! Great gems. Great video!
Still have my original Saturn from early 1997, and still pop in games occasionally, like Necronomicon and Fighters Megamix (and last week, Christmas NiGHTs...tradition :). I used to have Mr. Bones years ago, and while I wouldn't say the gameplay itself was all that great (not bad, just mediocre), the music was stellar. That's because it has music in it by the late Ronnie Montrose (of "Rock Candy" and "Bad Motorscooter" fame, and I recall that, if you get to a certain part in the game your character plays a little concert for the other boney fans.
Mr.Bones is certainly one of my favorites on the Saturn for US releases, though some people hate it. It reminds me of a pre-cursor to the Bit Trip Runner games, which are fun little games as well. Though while Bit Trip has the "gimmick" of creating beats while avoiding the obstacles, Mr.Bones had a more complete, yet less refined package with tons of little quirks that make it a neat little title.
I remember this was one of the few consoles that my dad rented from a VHS place. I remember how crazy the panzore dragon game was. I was so sad to return it when the weekend was over but that was always the story :)
I have the Alien Trilogy game on the PS1 and I must say that the Saturn version looks MUCH better; brighter, higher res textures, and no terrible pixelation that you get on the PS1 with some games. Anyway, nice selection of games; you always end up making me add more games to my want list :D
Burning Rangers was directed by Naoto Ohshima; the guy who designed Sonic & Eggman and later directed Sonic CD and NiGHTS. You can really tell because it has Sonic elements (the male protag's attitude, the way crystals work like rings) and similar dream-like psychedelic colors and visuals to Sonic CD and NiGHTS.
Princess crown isn't just limited to "one female (playable) character", the game has four different character with different storyline and playstyle playstyle (btw, the game structure is really similar to odin's sphere (lol, O'S is Princess crown v2.0)) once you finish the game with one character, you unlock a new protagonist). Despite having a few flaws (bad rythme, repetitive fighs, repetitive dungeons (this one is a real pain)) Princess Crown is by far one of the best SS game.
8:09 twinkle star sprites originated on the (Neo-Geo) MJR.The saturn version is a port of twinkle star sprites though that version has a extra character.Speaking of princess crown there is a fan translation in the works for it.
An English translated version of the Saturn version of Policenauts does exist. Having it fully translated is absolutely imperative as it is VERY text heavy. This was one of the first games I got for my Saturn when I bought my system online in late 2019. SATURN RULES!!!
Great job once again. I played a bit of Twinkle Star Sprites on the Neo Geo. I wish it could be remade somehow with a bit more balanced gameplay. Love those cute-emups though. I miss playing my Saturn.
Policenauts has a fan translation for PS1 works fine on Epsxe. The Saturn version is the uncensored version. Grand Knights History by Vanillaware has a fan translation for Sega Saturn.
I just flashed my Action replay cart so now it plays downloaed and burned Saturn games! So here I am to find what I need! Awesome video series, love your hidden gems series!
MetalJesusRocks - Just to point out to you, that SCUD was a 1990s comic book series by Rob Schrab that was a hit for a couple of years before disappearing. I t did come back in 2008 for 4 more issues and a complete collection came out in 2009.
Metal Jesus, Twinkle Star Sprites is an awesome game. I had it on an Neo Geo Emulator as a kid, but the quintessential version is the Dreamcast import of it. In the options menu you can enable DC mode which eliminates all the slowdown you encountered on the MVS and Saturn versions. Plus no loading, which is awesome.
Grid Runner is one of my Saturn gems that I like to share with people.. It's kind of a tag/capture the flag game, but with guns... Most people don't know what to think of it for the first few rounds... then they get addicted
All these Saturn games that I secretly envied when I was reading Game Pro and EGM back in the day. I was happy with my N64, but the Saturn had some super cool games that weren't on any other system.
The Horde. While Originally for the 3DO and later ported to Saturn and DOS, the Saturn version is amazing! And come on, Kirk Cameron starring in the full-motion video cut-scenes!
Scud is one of the best games on the system. LOVED it, and how bizarre that the guy that created the comic also created one of my favorite shows, Community.
For anyone interested in that pinball game at the end, it's actually titled "Fantasic Pinball Kyuutenkai." That's "fantasic," rather than "fantastic." It's a great and cheap game from Thunder Force creators Technosoft, and I reviewed it quite a while ago on my import game series (wink wink, nudge nudge, if you're interested). ;)
Policenauts is a cross between point and click adventure game and virtua cop . You can actually use the sega light gun on parts . Was made by hideo Kojima of metal gear fame and I believe it was released in English in Australia. Really good game if you came play it
I just love your wacky show Metal Jesus and everytime i see a new episode i get excited :) Wish you all a fantastic new year with abundance of health and love.
Great video! Policenauts is now translated on Saturn as well - maybe you could add an annotation to note that it was released since the making of this video...
2 things, MJR: 1-Love the new intro, especially the elliptical part! 2- Is the import of Burning Rangers playable without knowing Japanese? I just don't wanna shell out 150 bucks for the NTSC version.
You should know that Magical Hoppers is simply a re-skin of Pandemonium! for Japanese audiences. And while you could get Pandemonium! for the Sega Saturn, the Sony PlayStation version is much cheaper and more easily available.
I love the Saturn. I soldered in a mod chip and got an Action Replay cart for mine. I have at least a third of the games you guys mentioned. I always liked the Darkstalkers games, but I don't think you guys didn't mentioned any of the tag team fighters like X-men vs Street Fighter. That might be good for another episode.
Hey just thought I'd let y'all know. Scud is a comic book character from the mid 90s created by Rob Schrab. Scud isn't a blob he's a robotic assassin that can be bought by those in need of one.
SCUD is indeed a comicbook character, create by Rob Schrab. if i'm not mistaken scud has also a topdown pc game that i have played once long ago. A few years back Rob had a thing going on, asked fans to make short animations featuring his character.. some of them looked really good.. they are on yourtube.
Looking at alien trilogy and the latest alien isolation, gives you a good idea of how games have evolved from the nineties. Great video again, i love my saturn!
There will be a part 3 with even more Saturn games? I just bought a SEGA Saturn and i'm making a list of games i would like to have and play. I really like your videos. Thanks for the great work!
Metal Jesus & Anna. Thanks for sharing these great titles. So many games to check out now. One title that I would seem to fit with the MJR theme (as well as being one of the best multiplayer games of all time) is Death Tank Zwei. Just wanted to throw that in as one of my favs.
Scud is a comic by Rob Schrab. If you're a fan of Dan Harmon or the Harmontown podcast you'll know he's a crazy awesome freak. He also directed a handful of Community episodes.
Honestly recommend (so strongly) you give Mr Bones a further go as it gets sooooo cool later on past the first level. FTW, you have to tap buttons to get your bones back on first level!
Policenauts is a fantastic game and definitely a hidden gem. Been playing the English translation on a ps1 emulator. Definitely one of Kojima's best next to Metal Gear.
I got into Sega-consoles a few months ago, and one about a month ago, I got Space Hulk (based on Warhammer, I believe.) The first thing that hit me was the manual. It's just over 180 (!) pages, so you can imagine what went through my head. (hint: It started with "holy" and ended with "hit!", hehe.) But most of it is just different languages. The English bit is only 26 pages. As for the game itself, it's a first-person tactical shooter, where you guide a few Space Marines and pretty much just shoot stuff. It's a bit tricky to get into, as you need to give orders to your squad, make sure everyone does what you want them to and all that, just to survive. And trust me, the game can be quite difficult even when things go your way But stick to it, and it's brilliant. Definitely on my list of Sega Saturn Hidden Gems. :-) And btw, I have Alien Trilogy, but haven't had a chance to test it yet. I will now, after watching this video. Thanks!
This. Is why. I subscribed to this Channel. I have seen more game's that I want on all format's. Than on any other Game Channel. on You Tube... MJ you Rock at 9.5 on the Richter Scale.
I am very late to this but I have recently built my Sega collection to having a master system, Genesis, 32X, Saturn, and a Dreamcast. I love my Saturn and these videos have helped me a TON to know what to build my collection. Thank you guys.

I have to stop watching your "hidden gems" videos because it always results in a trip to Ebay and many dollars spent.
I know, right? ALL THE GAMES!!
mattorama Especially Saturn games. There are almost no cheap Saturn games that are worth playing.
+thehaxfactory I've noticed that a lot too. A Japanese version, shipped straight from Nippon all in costs LESS than a domestic version, I'll buy that instead.
+thehaxfactory In a bizarre turn of events, the Japanese version of Mechwarrior 2 I got for a steal is now more expensive than the US version.
+mattorama so i'm not the only one huh? my wallet hurts...
Scud: The Disposable Assassin is a cult comic book by Rob Schrab, who still does a lot of cool stuff, just not comics.
Good to hear from another Scud fan! The comic was hilarious MJ, check it out.
Ooh, I'll have to check it out!
Scud was a great comic. I have a scud t shirt that I still wear.
Yeah. I just recently learned he co-wrote the film Monster House with Dan Harmon. The two of them also did the famous "I attack the darkness!" D&D thing.
Asti Spumanti baby!
Wow, I'm late on this. SCUD isn't a blob, he's a robot. yeah they are really pretty
I swear everytime that Metal Jesus banner pops up at the beginning I always think its an ad and go to click it for a second
Great load of games there! Burning Rangers is a personal favorite of mine.
Thank you to talk about Princess Crown, this game deserve more recognition.
A few months ago there was one of the main English translators of policenauts was on the show and he talked about how he learned to program a bit to translate the game. Totally worth listening to.
Also awesome hidden gems. I have a lot of love for the Saturn.
Playing alien trilogy currently for the first time. I love how the audio on the Saturn video adds so much atmosphere.
I'm glad that the Saturn has gotten more popular over the last couple of years. So many amazing gems!
Three Dirty Dwarves was such an awesome game! I'm really glad you covered it. I always love those quirky games with such unique charm.

One of my fav guests; Anna has a great voice to listen to. Happy to learn that Anna has her own channel!
Anna and Redgy are my favourit guests. Make sure to invite them again, they bring fresh air into the show and are both real gamers
Thank you for your support!

3 Dirty Dwarfs and SCUD are both pretty awesome :)
Yes! 100% agreed ^_^
Scottsquatch Is scud better as a light gun game? Because it's balls as a platformer
Yo, I have some fond memories of playing 3 dirty dwarves with my brother as a kid
Sega saturn itself is a hidden gem.
It's awesome to see Twinkle Star Sprites on the list. My homeboy and I get funny looks when we talk about it in public (we're 30)
Metal Jesus AND Anna both rock.
\m/
CircuitsandCoffee I'm jealous of your game room!
:)

Expect the unexpected with MeralJesus, that was awesome to see you and Anna tag team on some Saturn games.
I barely had any games for the Saturn as a kid, but Alien trilogy was one of them. It was great. I played it more than any other game I had.
I remember this was one of the few consoles that my dad rented from a VHS place. I remember how crazy the panzore dragon game was. I was so sad to return it when the weekend was over but that was always the story :)

I really want to play Mr Bones, that does actually look really fun.
It's either really challenging or I just suck at it >
+The Easter Egg Hunter games hard as fuck lol
It does look fun. It has a soundtrack, too.
Playing it right meow. Had this game since it came out and let me tell you that it is awesome!
Scud is a comic! I still have a few
There's a full collection book called "The Whole Shebang", it's killer.
8:09 twinkle star sprites originated on the (Neo-Geo) MJR.The saturn version is a port of twinkle star sprites though that version has a extra character.Speaking of princess crown there is a fan translation in the works for it.
New intro!
Glad you included Scud! I got to meet the artist Rob Schrab at Comic Con in the 90's.
Where's the third one!? :)
Love this stuff, can't wait to get a Saturn.
Jon Dante Tomorrow is another Saturn video with Anna!
Awesome! Will be waiting for it then. ^_^ Keep it metal!
MetalJesusRocks Was/is the 3rd Saturn video your "top 10 saturn games"?
Japanese games can be had for cheap, I usually just skip the western versions.
An English translated version of the Saturn version of Policenauts does exist. Having it fully translated is absolutely imperative as it is VERY text heavy. This was one of the first games I got for my Saturn when I bought my system online in late 2019. SATURN RULES!!!
Panzer Dragoon series, Nights, and Baku Baku were awesome as well!
Nights into dreams... Awesome !
But i think panzer it's pretty popular so it can't be a hidden game
Great job once again. I played a bit of Twinkle Star Sprites on the Neo Geo. I wish it could be remade somehow with a bit more balanced gameplay. Love those cute-emups though. I miss playing my Saturn.
Policenauts has a fan translation for PS1 works fine on Epsxe. The Saturn version is the uncensored version. Grand Knights History by Vanillaware has a fan translation for Sega Saturn.

I loved my Saturn! My favorite game was "in the hunt."
played it in the arcade... there is also a version on PS1.
MetalJesusRocks - Just to point out to you, that SCUD was a 1990s comic book series by Rob Schrab that was a hit for a couple of years before disappearing. I t did come back in 2008 for 4 more issues and a complete collection came out in 2009.

I've never had the chance to play the Sega Saturn as I was on the PlayStation team as a kid. I think I'ts time to purchase and finally try it out!
I actually own a copy of Twinkle Star Sprites for the Saturn. Loads of fun. Highly recommended.
what is also amazing about three dirty dwarves is that you can play with 3 players! AMAZING multiplayer game!
in 2018 Policenauts works like a charm if you can play CD-Rs even more if you have the Saturn Lightgun
The Horde. While Originally for the 3DO and later ported to Saturn and DOS, the Saturn version is amazing! And come on, Kirk Cameron starring in the full-motion video cut-scenes!
Oh nice you mentioned Mr. Bones and Policenauts! Awesome episode.
Awesome, thanks you guys. I bought a Saturn at Camelot music at Northgate back in 95!
Happy New Year Metal Jesus Rocks!
Mr. Bones's deteriorating body mechanic is just like Amazing Crash-test Dummies on Genesis which is an awesome game
Scud is one of the best games on the system. LOVED it, and how bizarre that the guy that created the comic also created one of my favorite shows, Community.
Dan Harmon created Community. Rob Schrab created Scud. They've been friends for a very long time, but they are not the same person.
Wow that was a long wait for part 2, but it was great and thanks for posting this. The Sega Saturn is one of the most underrated consoles of all time.
Must check dirty dwarfs, looks fun
Thanx for posting the video! I've been looking to expand my Saturn collection and these games look pretty promising.
For anyone interested in that pinball game at the end, it's actually titled "Fantasic Pinball Kyuutenkai." That's "fantasic," rather than "fantastic." It's a great and cheap game from Thunder Force creators Technosoft, and I reviewed it quite a while ago on my import game series (wink wink, nudge nudge, if you're interested). ;)

Burning Rangers is one of the best looking Saturn games, and really has that Saturn-y aesthetic to it
I dont know how so many PS1/SEGA Saturn lists forget Grandia. It is such an under appreciated game!
Sega Saturn is my all time favorite game console. Thx for the video.
I just love your wacky show Metal Jesus and everytime i see a new episode i get excited :) Wish you all a fantastic new year with abundance of health and love.
Anna episode 3 and 4. Anna should start a Saturn dedicated channel. Awesome!
Alien trilogy changed my life as a wee lad, one of my all time favorite games!
I need about 50% of those games for my lonely Saturn. Great ep as always.
I have at least a third of the games you guys mentioned. i guess it was better than the crappy PS1 version where they removed the TAG feature... ????
It was way better than that. It had twice the frames of animation and the tagging feature in tact
One of my favorite channels. Great work guys.
Policenauts has been translated a few months ago! it can now be played in english on your saturn with ligthgun!!!
Hey just thought I'd let y'all know. Scud is a comic book character from the mid 90s created by Rob Schrab. Scud isn't a blob he's a robotic assassin that can be bought by those in need of one.

Three Dirty Dwarves 9:58 looks like Shady Jay from the Game Chasers. theshadyjayshow
I have fantasic pinball, no typo there, it's actually fantasic pinball and it's fantastic! it's also on the PS1
WOW Fantasy Pinball & Princess Crown looked really cool.
I know this is an old vid... but the fan translation for Policenauts is available... along with a few others now.
I had the Alien Triolgy for sure. Big fan. Met the guys from ALIENS. like the whole crew last year in Calgary at the EXPO. was nuts
Always interesting to see these Saturn games I never heard of. Hope to see more videos with Anna :).
I really want to start a Sega Saturn collection after watching these videos.
Her collection is too dope! Really great gems!
I got into Sega-consoles a few months ago, and one about a month ago, I got Space Hulk (based on Warhammer, I believe.) The first thing that hit me was the manual.
