      "I like the Dreamcast version a lot better."
      John Hancock there is no Dreamcast version of The House of the Dead 1, you got it confused with The House of the Dead 2 on the Dreamcast.

      As a focused North American collector I wanted to showcase the physical games and ones that we got in the States. The Japanese market is great, but we did not get them over here and many are very hard to find in person.

    Wow, I really miss Sega. I know they're still around publishing for other consoles, but at the same time, I feel like their output is not as adventurous as when they were doing their own hardware. I really feel like Sega made great games that were light-hearted and fun.
    I'm probably just getting old but new game stuff is so realistic, so dark, so serious. Sega was more about bright colors, the illusion of speed, and attitude. I just can't help but think of what the world would be like if they had made it through the hard times.

    • @filipmartinez1162
      @filipmartinez1162 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      maxadocious I recently played SEGA's Transformers human alliance at the arcade and the graphics are amazing and the in game cutscenes have a very "Dreamcast 2 or 3" kind of vibe with the virtua cop esque looking human protagonists. You really should check it out the next time youre at a dave and busters or something. They might have playthroughs of it on TH-cam.

    • @G.G.___162
      @G.G.___162 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Why can't they just emulate Panzer Dragoom Saga and release it that way, like they do with all kinds of games these days??

    • @G.G.___162
      @G.G.___162 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @av rmx yeah, it's such a shame. They produced some of the greatest, cutting edge gaming / console experiences in history (at those times). I mean.. talk about dropping the ball! They had EVERYTHING they could possibly have ever needed for success.. but they just made such terrible business decisions it's absolutely baffling. But nonetheless, I'll always have a deep fondness for the Gensis - Saturn - Dreamcast era that'll never be topped in my book. Again: just what a shame..

    • @d3nxfr494
      @d3nxfr494 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure this was at Toys R Us for like $20 when I bought my Saturn. All the games were really cheap, must be when they were getting rid of all their Saturn stuff. I apparently bought the last one they had. They forgot to give me the game pack with it, and when I went back in they looked for a while, and finally found it (Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop 2, and Daytona USA) and said it's the last one they had. I think I went back the next day or something to just buy up all the interesting looking games. I'm pretty sure Burning Rangers was there. I got Magical Knight Rayearth and Albert Odyssey that day. Astal, Clockwork Knight (which was one of the launch titles I think, but they had it there for like ten bucks or something)... forget what else, but I think I got several others. I might be wrong about the prices but I think Rayearth and Albert were really only like $20-30 at the most. I remember looking at Burning Rangers and I think I read about it in EGM or something, but gave it a pass. With my luck, Panzer Dragoon Saga was there too and I just didn't care at the time.

      There are five Netlink compatible games in the US Saturn library: Daytona USA CCE Netlink, Virtual-On Netlink, Sega Rally Championship Netlink, Saturn Bomberman, Duke Nukem 3d. The first three are re-releases of existing games with added Netlink support.

      I sadly passed on Daytona netlink many years ago for $250. But last year I finally made a trade for one with a girl locally who literally found it at a play n trade for $10. It was nice to cross the last $100+ Saturn title off the list finally

    MJR about your closing comments, I think it's perfectly okay to do videos regarding the value of games. I spent most of the 90's working in a comic shop and the back issue comic book market was very similar to today's back issue game market. I agree with your point that if you're going to collect something you need to know what the expensive items are going to be. Helps you to be more aware as a collector.

    • @JTMaster
      @JTMaster 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm surprised many older comics have gone WAAAAAY down in their value these days considering how popular superheroes are nowadays. I would have figured they would have gone up since people are getting into collecting the comics. Like one of my X-Men comics went from being worth about $40 to like $8 now.

    • @stashmerkin9576
      @stashmerkin9576 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't followed values very much since I got out of comics, I find that surprising too! I think there is a large portion of the movie-going crowd that are new to the mythos and are either unaware or uninterested in their screen hero's comic appearances. When I was selling comics day to day I used to tell our customers to 'buy the character(s) that you like. That way if the value of your comic does not go up it will still be worth something to you.'

    According to the internet, one of the issues with Panzer Dragoon Saga not being re-released is, the source code for the game was lost. I have Panzer Dragoon Saga hiding in a closet somewhere, with the box and I think most (possibly all) of the material. Heh

    • @Athonite
      @Athonite 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The same thing happened to Ultima 7. The loss/destruction of source code is surprisingly common... Just one of many reasons we should support accurate hardware emulation of classic systems.

    • @Lily_Valentine
      @Lily_Valentine 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Junichi Suto has some coding of the game. It's incomplete, however. I believe it's also an early build of Saga's code anyways, so it's unlikely that they'll ever recreate the game with the original coding.

Yeah well so are other games for more obscure systems that don't go for nearly as much. It's yet another example of Western collectors sucking up to the market when really a game like this shouldn't cost anywhere near the current value. Go look on eBay, you can buy the Japanese version right now (EX) for 99 cents. I'm telling you guys, the bubble will eventually burst.

    Just FYI: House of the Dead on Saturn and Dreamcast are different games. Saturn has HotD1 and Dreamcast has HotD2. HotD1 on Saturn is not very good as the Saturn wasn’t great in 3D. It’s polygon count and texture resolution was really poor.

    • @SEGAHEADDY
      @SEGAHEADDY 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      J Kemp Saturn HotD was said to be only 60% complete when it shipped. Tantalus wasn't done yet but Sega told them to wrap it up. That's why the graphics were unfinished. Gameplay is actually 100% intact. Saturn could have done the game justice graphically as it was a Model 2 game and plenty of other Model 2 conversions looked great on Saturn.

    • @xDerekRx
      @xDerekRx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup this one wasn't the Saturn fault. A proper port could have easily looked as good as Virtua cop 2. Sadly we got a rushed port due to dev teams moving onto Dreamcast. The game is luckily very playable despite the unfinished graphics

    • @KevenLC
      @KevenLC 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the Saturn coudn't run Model 2 games very well…. I bought a saturn at launch with daytona usa and it was great but when I played the Model 2 version on pc many years later…. the framerate is 60fps while 25fps on the saturn…. plus the graphic are so much better on the model 2 version…. it's almost night and day.

    • @xDerekRx
      @xDerekRx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KevenLC Daytona is actually a bad example. It was rushed which is why they released Daytona CCE later on. Better examples would be virtua fighter 2 and virtua cop 2. The best and closest 1:1 polygonal arcade port on the system was die hard arcade imo

    • @SEGAHEADDY
      @SEGAHEADDY 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xDerekRx Indeed, the original Daytona on Saturn was rushed for the Saturn launch. Daytona CCE used the same engine as the Sega Rally port, and looks much better than original Daytona Saturn.
      Some excellent Model 2-to-Saturn ports include Last Bronx, VF2, Sega Rally, Dead or Alive, Virtual On, Virtua Cop 2, etc.
      And by excellent ports I mean in terms of a couple thousand dollar arcade board vs. a couple hundred dollar home hardware.
