My garage floor has a sealer. Grinding will take it all off before I use an epoxy?

Can I ask, so if you do have a moisture issue, does that mean you just have to give up and you can never have a painted floor? Are there any solutions? (I expect them to be expensive I bet...)

When I bought my house, it came with a clear epoxy-coated garage floor. This garage floor is slippery as hell in the winter time or when it rains. I want to re-coat it with a gray coating with grit mixed into it. My question is - what prep work do I need to do to make the clear-coated epoxy floor ready to accept the new coating?

Bob Reed mechanically grind off the old epoxy. Unless you can see the grinder marks on the floor, there’s no way to tell whether the slab was prepped properly. Grind it down to bare concrete, fill any cracks/holes, clean slab very well by vacuuming and blowing, then install your coating

you can also scuff it, then add MORE EPOXY mixed with sand....do a test area, because epoxy doesnt always stick to itself.... Michael cervantes has some excellent advise, but not all homeowners are willing to go that far....i would grind it all off, if there were some serious slab problems, but I have had success with epoxy -to- epoxy coats....painter for 35 years!!

I have an existing epoxy floor, but I would like to change the color. Do I have to remove the old color entirely?

Excalibur Head me too. Is there any garage floor that doesn't get moisture? Most are poured slab on-grade so contact with the earth, which has moisture. Mine sweats during the rain. I think the plastic under mine(if the contractor even used it) is not there anymore. I think I'll just clean it with a good degreaser and some elbow grease. It's a garage.

Epoxy paint will usually always fail because it's a cheap water based product. Notice he always references "PAINT" Especially under your hot tires. True 100% solids epoxy is the only you to go. And one that is capable of holding back high amounts of moisture vapor emissions (MVE). In the long run, you'll be much happier hiring a pro, not a painter, but a pro who only focuses on epoxy garage flooring. These will typically come with a lifetime adhesion warranty.
You get what you pay for.

Nice!!....your right, epoxys are different today then when I first started paint contracting...I am a fan of water- base stuff, but i still use oil base for decks, primering and metal....by the way, i have yet to see a water-base product last on an outdoor deck for more than 2 years!!
