Keep that Kohler.. Those cast iron K301's are damn near bulletproof. It'll definitely outlast any new stuff.. I have these in my old IH Cub Cadets from the 60's & 70's and they're still running strong.

I have a bunch of old garden tractors with Kohlers the only way I was able to blow one up, was removing the governor running it at wide-open and having no oil in it, and anyway like that, it took around four hours to overheat and blow up. Those are the best engines ever.

The oil float thing could be repurposed or an oil level light on the dash, just wire it up so that it's acting as a swtich between a bulb and power, crude but effective safety thing for reducing the chance of blowing the engine... :)

I think the electronic device on the bottom of the carb is a fuel shut-off valve. It's there to prevent fuel from being drawn into the engine after it's shutdown. While the engine spinning down those last few RMP's it will pull fuel from the carb, this will cause occasional backfires. So engine manufactures added the fuel shut-off valve to block the main jet.

That’s what I said when I put a 7hp Diesel into my 82 John Deere 212 with an awkward engine Mount configuration, & barely fitting with the air cleaner box 1/2 way chewed off by a paper thin margin.
Lost close to 60-65lbs just by putting a smaller motor into it, getting rid of a battery, & having 2x the power the Kohler had with modern efficiency.
I will say that I miss the electric start, but the simplicity is.👌
It’s just temporary I’m planning on rebuilding the Kohler, just wanted a Dsl in it for now.

My mother bought a new ‘57 from a classified ad in Popular Mechanics. That was the first year electric start was standard, but the plywood doors were still optional. A single manual windshield wiper kept your hand busy in the rain. Two speed automatic transmission was achieved by two centrifugal clutches on the engine shaft, one with tighter springs than the other, driving different sized pulleys on a concentric shaft with a ratchet between them. I drove it often after getting my license in ‘62. It was especially good for delivering newspapers. Sadly, she traded it for a used ‘60 Corvair 700 4-door.

The valve on the bottom of the carb is an anti-backfire valve. Closes off fuel to the main when you shut the key off to prevent the exhaust from loading up with fuel during a full speed shut down and igniting it. Turns round mufflers into ovals pretty efficiently when it pops :D

That solenoid in the carb is an anti-backfire solenoid. Keeps gas from getting in the engine by stopping up the main jet when you turn it off to keep it from backfiring when you shut it down.

I remember these cars (karts) being advertised in Popular Mechanics magazine in the late 1950s.....early 60s that my farther used to get by mail from US in Australia when I was 11 years old. I think you guys did a good good job. If I was doing it I would have taken a bit longer to do.

I was stationed at Bouge Field back in 72-73 Emerald Isle was a great place back then you could drive the whole island and in some places there weren't any houses. It has really been built up since then . This was definitely a good build. That's definitely ready for North Carolina license plates.

Gotta love the King Midget. I recall seeing just one of those growing up. I was riding in my moms MG Midget. The MG seemed huge compared to the King. Amazing work, and good luck on the road.

20:43 The wires going to the carburetor is an anti dieseling valve It stops fuel from running through the main jet or idle jet so if the engine is really hot and you shut it off the spark it won't continue to run from the heat and compression effectively "dieseling"

20:24 21:05 it's a fuel solenoid there purpose is to act as a cut fuel off to the main jet in the carb to prevent flooding and or runaway coil ground failure (basically your kill switch or key switch fails to ground the coils but cuts power to the fuel solenoid) there pretty neat to have love y'alls videos keep up the great work

Edit: Please put a rack or trailer hitch so you can carry a pitbike... That would make this thing legit as a road trip vehicle. 😁👍🖤
