Lol it needs a little tractor exhaust flapper
Incredibly important. I wish I had a diesel dirt bike with the exhaust flapper thingy
The reason it finally ran is because you cracked the line open, its extremely hard for single cylinder diesel engines to bleed themselves.
agreed, and maybe the fuel that was in it was a type of "shipping" super low quality just used to lubricate for shipping purposes, draining the fuel, changing fuel, and popping that line got all the good fuel in and bled the system.
@@dozer8065exactly i feel like it was oil to keep it from rusting during storage/shipping
@@StroDshiesty1 theres nothing to rust, especially the injection pump parts its all extremely high grade stainless, almost indestructible, its just lube for the tight tolerance stuff, keep in mind the plungers inside that pump have tolerances that are less than a thousanths of a inch
But I assume they mostly bleed like old mechanical injected truck diesels (pickup trucks) like when someone runs their 12 valve out of fuel just there's only one cylinder so there's no hope of one of six getting some fuel and making the engine spin over on its own
@@dozer8065to be fair, diesel fuel is probably the lowest quality stuff you really can get for an engine designed to run on peanut oil
The moment you put a turbo to this gokart its gonna be everyones east european dream gokart, just imagine "The TDI Gokart" lmao. 😂🙌
When it comes to diesel engines, it ain't the horses, it's the torque that sends it, even with that swiss cheese flywheel... :P
@@grannysgushinggash i dont think you could even fit an entire horse in an engine.
@@jacobkennedy6820 Then you don't have a big enough engine. Or a small enough horse I guess

“This thing is junk…..HEY WE HAVEN’T EVEN HEARD IT START YET…….Exactly” 😂😂❤ love you guys
Diagnosing a brand new engine like they found it in a junk yard is hilarious
Ive had 4 of those. Remove some of the shims between the little injection pump and the block. It'll give it a few more hp and more smoke.
@@Failure_Is_An_Optiondiesels work different than gas engines. More fuel=more power😂
@@proxyhx2075it'll blow up if you mess with the timing too much, and definitely will shorten it's life running it advanced more than stock
Also, dont piss all your money away on brake clean. Buy a gallon of acetone for 20$. Get a squirt bottle and blast it off with compressed air. 8-11 cans of brake clean in a gallon.
Love how my starter box can start a 420cc diesel but struggles with a small block Tillotson methanol engine 😂
Its fighting the spark advance, not the compression 🤔😉... Tilly Meth builds are Bad A55 🎉🎉
@@z1berzerker Electronic ignition would be a great upgrades for a lot of minibikes
Whats the difference ? Arent they already electric ignition?@@RobertJeffersonBased
@@justinarseneau4450 the difference is that spark timing on a small engine with a magneto is fixed, with no advance or retard possible while the engine is running. a battery powered coil ignition system can have adjustable advance, just like car engines have.
This build needs a custom homemade transmotion like a 3 speed trans "crawlin, crusin, racin". Yall could do it for sure 😂🤟
@@zAvAvAz With a turbo, more fuel and proper gearing for it, maybe it could get there. More importantly, would you want to ride that cart at 90mph? Answering "yes" could win you the "Biggest Balls Of 2024" award.

Yall are so cute it warms my heart
No one talking about how the Diesel engine sounds like a lions roar when he lets off the gas at 1:10:48 Love the sound lol
Now, For Some Free Mods!!! - advance injector timing a few degrees by removing 1 or 2 shims under the unit pump , turn fuel up also easy since its just an adjustment no parts swap, an ditch that stock air filter for somthing bigger and more free flowing that I'm sure you have layin around the shop, Then Bam MOARRRR POWAHH!!! And yes Turbo would be a good addition , makes it easier since that engine has a pressurized oiling system too
Turning up fuel without adding air is a bad plan... EGTs up for minimal power increase. Advancing the timing would be a good plan though.. He already has smoke so more fuel is not going to do much
@@DarkAttack14 High EGTs on a NA diesel aren’t a problem. The old trucks with 200 hp had flames coming out the stacks and manifolds glowing
@@DarkAttack14 Being able to easily turn up the fuel like that is going to be the difference between the turbo simply cleaning the exhaust up and the turbo actually making the engine more powerful. If they want any gains from the turbo they need to be able to turn the fuel up.
As long as they don't mess with the governed speed setting it should wake up pretty good with some boost.
@@DarkAttack14 On an NA diesel its tested to get more Power at Rich Mixture(even under Lambda 1/aka really smokey), since you are air limited, EGTs also arent a Problem und NA conditions. Adding air through a turbo would be the best addition for the extra fuel tho
Timing advance may be of a very slight advantage. Increased fuel... pissin in the wind. Air filter... pissin in the wind.
Your girl did awesome! Re watch the video and watch how she relaxed her brake foot. She had it flat out on the gas pedal. Glad to see you two enjoy go karts. Next she has to help build her own.
Diesels are all about the torque. The weight holds you into the curve, and the torque pulls you out. I concur; probably not a great track machine, but perfect for that Grand Prix woods course!
Can’t believe you got the original Goose from top gun to help out
Yall need to have a hot lap day where you re-run all the board leaders!! That would be an awesome episode!!! Cheers guys and love the vids!!!
These long form videos are impeccable 👌 I love having you dude on in my workshop. Great job on the diesel boys!
I was cracking up at around 1:12:30. John looked like he was on another planet or something 🤣

tell ya what, this was in my feed, and it was right up my alley. great content, great shop, great personalities. makes me wish i had friends lol! well ones that were into this kinda fun. see ya on future videos ill be watching.
This was such an enjoyable episode to watch. It had everything in it. Some build, some fix, some vlog, redheads, and you had fun most of the time 😅
Now this is a sweet platform!
It reminds me of the small diesel powered go kart you guys built a while ago with the engine from EBay !! Loved that video
Lol. I have that same motor on a mini bike. With 40 converter. I call it the D-69 cat lol. It's all done up to look like a cat machine.
I have this same engine I cobbled on to an ariens 28 inch snow blower frame. The power output is super good. I've put it in to foot deep wet heavy slush and it loved it. It was barely even taking a load and it was LAUNCHING that stuff.
The mix of colors reminds me of the Partridge Family bus from the 70s. Need a flipper on the exhaust pipe. John it was nice of you to introduce your girlfriend. You two make a great couple.
So happy to see home much you guys have grown the channel over the years!! Keep up the great work!
I almost feel like I'm watching an episode of Diesel Creek....lol
If I was building a diesel kart I would definitely go with a torque converter.
Keeping the rpms in the peak power curve. I'd probably gear on the high side so when the converter went to full lock up my final drive would be set for top end.
I'd want the engine to top out at the end of the longest straight away.
Temu.. Giving the Chinese continuous American comedy since 2022
Ya'll need a set of holes on that bench to bolt down engines. Tapped so no reaching your hand under the table.
A “universal” plate to mount on would be a cool upgrade to the shop. I LOVE upgrade videos
I was thinkin a c clamp kinda thing with X pattern for the 4 bolts, and the clamp fastns down on the ''table'' or into a vise even but ''designed'' to set into the jig table thingie and watnot ;)
I've heard some of these engines have sat in a dirt turner for over 6 years, with little to non maintenance at all, still starts and runs like a champ
You guys have so many shifter Karts and go karts I would love to be in the same place as you guys in a few years from now. Also this video gives me old cars and cameras vibes I love it ♥. Keep it up
Love the long form videos! We asked, you delivered thanks from all of us detail orientated fans
I have a hard time finding enough time to sit down and watch an entire movie though. Personally I liked the 30 ish minute range, longer than 15-20, but not nearing feature film length
Id say going 1-2 teeth bigger on the clutch would improve the top speed by a lot. 1 tooth on the clutch makes up for 8 teeth on the rear. A Turbo and a good porting job would improve the hp and torque by alot.
how many teeth on that clutch sprocket, did you manage to see by chance?
@@aidanlyons1155 Just taking a guess id say 14-15 if its a 1 inch shaft engine.
I mean, they did say it's already sketchy enough in the corners, adding speed probably isn't going to help much, at least not on their track.
Thanks guys for doing this experiment, I’ve been wanting to do something like this with a couple buddies, but from what I’ve gathered they’re better as a boat anchor than an actual useable engine
yeah, good to get a tig! you guys need one, and when you are good at it you can take the tig home and do welding at the tv room table. So much less dramatic with splatter and stuff then a mig!
Pin this please!
Blue locktite comes in a tube/glue stick/paste. If you have any little ones, glove them up and have them apply it to all the bolts in the kit. If you don't have little ones, the paste still makes it easy and less messy.
I haven't built one of these carts but harbor freight trailers are built with nuts and bolts, that's exactly what I did with my son, we poured outs all the hardware, put blue locktite on it and sorted them, it was a great first step in the project and it's a good first "wrenching" project with my son.
Epic paint-job on that bolt-cart! 👍👍👍
What a neat episode! I'm so glad I clicked on it. I really dig that paint idea
I was a TIG welder for 3 years... it is so much better than MIG... it just takes some reps to learn how much heat to use and building muscle memory with adding the rod... and you can weld any material with TIG. I was primarily an aluminum welder and TIG is the way to go... anyway enjoy... in a few months you will have the hang of it.
You guys will love the arccaptain welder. I've been running mine since the beginning of the year on aluminum, SS, steel, and bronze filler and it is a very capable machine! Hint, you guys really need to get the foot pedal, the control it gives you makes the difference between mediocre and great looking welds especially on thin material!
Ive never watched an hr long youtube video beforee this was quite entertaining, learned alot too .
Must have been two years since I watched the last video from you guys 😄 I’ve got a ton to watch 🙈

I love yard carts! Nice effort fellas!!🎉
diesel has a forever shelf life
They've mandated summer fuel where I am to be B5 biodiesel now. It's more prone to bacterial growth imo. My old job had a truck sit for about a year and the fuel went bad. Another truck sat for 3 years and it didn't because it was before they put that crap in the fuel.
@@juliogonzo2718 you can drain it and run it through a hard filter and remove just about anything
Once you git the hang of it, TIG Welding is awesome, I actually prefer TIG over MIG for certain jobs where the join will be visible.
Just wanna mention this video was so good i didnt notice it was longer than an hour. Been watching since 6 pm and now its 12 (was doing stuff in-between but never changed videos)
i would love to see you put a turbo or even a supercharger on this machine
Uh, did they know about depressure knob?(the little red knob thingy, top of the cylinder head, beside the injector. No wonder the starter are just shredded to pieces 😂😂😂
@@lensrc7460 I think they should use the knob to disable the compression, thus make it easier to gain more rotation momentum. After enough momentum gained, just let go of the knob and the engine will do the rest.
That's how we start some Chinese diesel engine here.
Those Chinese really go low with that starter tho.

I love TIG welding... can be so satisfying once the learning curve realy hits
Love these long vids
Worst tig weld is the one you didnt try. I was blessed to have my entire apprenticeship in tig doing stainless food and beverage equipment 29 years ago.
MIG = Monkey Ignorant Gun. Any monkey can do it, and some do it well, but tig is an art.
Over here in UK us stick welders call migs hot glue guns! I've done thin sheet and even motorcycle headers with stick, done heavy work too (RSJ'S)and cast iron! most of that is an art as well!
Loads of torque I bet
Gotta love this idea brought back to the chopping block after a couple of years, it was one of my favourites from y'all.
Fun stuff guys. Congrats to BBR for the design.
Before things get crazy with mods, I'd love to see a little torch shooting propane into the intake via "nitrous" button.
@@lamarzimmermanmennonitefar5269It's not goimg to hurt anything of value.
@@cs-gj3yfwrong. Nitrous is extra air, propane is fuel. A diesel makes power with timed fuel injection and the correct amount of air. If it's making black smoke then you need more are, if it's not you need more fuel. Adding nitrous to a diesel making no black smoke is going to get you little/nothing. Adding propane is untimed fuel for when you can't get any more from the injection pump. It helps spool the turbo earlier too. I have a propane Injection system I built on my diesel Mercedes I tow with.
