I've had a spit6 conversion since i was 14 years old niw 36. First year for me to tear it apart down to the chassis. Frames a little shoot, so i came to the agreement with my self to build a full tube frame chassis with roll cage and find a Gt6 body for it. Then if i ever decide to upgrade to a full LS1 engine it will be ready to go. Or completely rebuild the gt6 engine to race specs. Yes i know i will never get my money back. But i dont plan on selling lol...love this guys videos. Got my sub today great video's

Good idea putting that key switch in the middle. I put a GT6 in a ditch in 1984 and I've still got a big scar on my knee where the key went in.

Hi put the key in the dash as always thought that factory idea steering shaft mount was crazy problem to reach when the old type seat belts fitted works well in the new location thanks for the comment. ps was the old gt6 a right of?

It was a write off in 1984. These days it would be a damn good fixer upper.

I'm thinking about just having a rotary switch Off/I/II and a start button so my keys aren't clanging around. If theives get in the car, not having a key isn't going to stop them :) I usually hide a switch to isolate the starter circuit anyway which isn't a bad idea, or just mis-label another switch on the dash. There's lots of ways to skin a cat and that's half the fun of it. I'm doing up a 76 Spit with a Triumph 2500 engine (sadly not PI) 'for the wife'.
Does yours have a type D Laycock O/D in it? Mine's making me scratch my head. Says the solenoid and arm adjustment can be done in situ but you need a child's fingers to get at them.

That's a fair point about the insurance, I suppose I should put a keyhole somewhere afterall.
What did you do about the steering lock that's normally on when the steering column mounted key is out?

I think that your ideas of the dash board is fine. Some modification but still loyal to the original design. I have seen them made in stainless steel, looked terrible.
It's going to interesting to see how the dash top repairing turns out. I'm still in searching for one to my Spit MkIII.
    Cheers.

+Ulrik Kaul Hi Ulrik happy you like it, its my way of being true to the car yet changing what a young man would have done back in the seventies, we all loved clocks didn't we. first attempt at the recover failed due to all the imperfections showing through from the old cover so have ordered some 3mm closed cell foam to line the old cover then apply the new material hope that's going to look ok. ps the first attempt was kind of ok but think it could be better. will put the video out when done regards Jeff
