    This video was EXTREMELY HELPFUL! I couldn't have done this without this video. My specific 7520 was a bit different. I couldn't remove the fan easily so left it attached to the motherboard. There is a screwed in module where the power cord plugs in and I had to remove that. There is an additional cable for the keyboard possibly for the back lighting of the keyboard. Thanks so much for the informative video.

    Very helpful video! Thank you.
    I just found one of these laptops in the trash. It looks like it's in good condition, but it doesn't boot. The beeps indicate that it needs a new CMOS battery. Not only did your video show me how to get to it, the image was clear enough for me to verify that it's a CR2032 battery, a piece of information that none of the Google search results mention. I know most computers use that one, but I wanted to be sure before I took it all apart.
    While I'm at it, I'll clean the fan (which is no doubt full of dust), and maybe clean the CPU and heatsink as well.

    Excelente tutorial en todos aspectos. Sin la intención de faltarle al respeto solo faltó la instrucción de conectar el cable de corriente a la tarjeta madre. Gracias.
    Excellent tutorial in all aspects. Without the intention of being disrespectful, the only thing missing was the instruction to connect the power cable to the motherboard.
    Thanks.

    I had to replace an SSD in a 5520 and I decided to take it apart, because the fan was constantly spinning at max speed. I put fresh heatpaste on the CPU and GPU and it is good as new. Mine has an AMD GPU also, so the heatpipe has 7 (numbered) screws instead of 4, but no big difference. This video helped a lot!

    This video was EXTREMELY helpful for me in cleaning out the dust & removing the heatsink; only thing it didn't show was how you would recommend applying the new paste &...one screw you didn't mention that needed to Also be unscrewed (in order to remove the motherboard) was the screw that connects the power cord connector To the motherboard, 😅
    Other than those 2 details, I was able to do what needed to get done & my laptop's not overheating as much anymore. Thank you for the video~

    Banging on it could have caused a loose connection between the HDD and the motherboard. Try reseating the HDD. If that doesn't work, you may have damaged the HDD and probably need to replace it.

    Awesome video, very thorough. I do have a question though, I have this same laptop (7520) and the LCD screen is completely black. External monitor doesn't work either. I have done all the typical troubleshooting, all to no avail.
    I am beginning to think the GPU itself has gone, as the computer posts normally, no beeps, I've reseated the RAM, tested the backlight on the LCD, etc. and since the external isn't working I'm thinking that it must be the GPU. The VGA, HDMI, and LCD are not working. They show that the cable connects (on the monitor it doesn't show "cable not connected") but just a black screen. Can't get the Dell diagnostic LCD test to show up or anything. Do you think it could be the GPU? Would a failed gpu cause a black screen? Everything else powers on perfectly, the heatsink, the dvd-drive, the lights, etc.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    • @dellpartspeople
      @dellpartspeople  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would check to make sure the LCD cable isn't loose on the back of the screen first. Sometimes they become loose and cause the same problems (no screen, no external, no beep code). If it's not the cable then it's probably GPU relate and you will have to replace the motherboard.

    • @dellpartspeople
      @dellpartspeople  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      andrew pazos There are different cables but that connection to the motherboard will be the same on all of them. It is more likely a loose cable connection or the cable isn't fully seated. Try going back through the laptop and reseating all of the cables. That might fix the problem.

    Hi
    thank you for a great educational video. i have a 15r 7520 SE with mSATA SSD, and i want to upgrade that leaving my conventional HDD. i understand that SSD on the daughterboard to the top right side of the laptop base. is there any chance you could make a little video about that? thank you once again

    • @dellpartspeople
      @dellpartspeople  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I remember correctly the model I had did not have an mSATA SSD slot. Unfortunately I do not have a video for the SSD. Also unfortunately, I no longer have that laptop. But, good news, I do have a video showing how to replace the USB daughter board that the mSATA would be located on. After it is removed the SSD would be held in place with one screw. I'm sure you will be able to figure it out after the daughter board is removed. Here is the video and written instructions. blog.parts-people.com/2013/05/23/dell-inspiron-15r-5520-7520-usb-circuit-board-removal-and-installation/

      The mSATA is on the bottom side if the USB circuit board. I don't think there is access to it on the bottom of the laptop, so the only way to gain access is by removing the motherboard and removing the daughter board. Hey man, firstly, thanks for the video! Could you tell me if the fan performance in this model can be changed? I've already replaced the thermal compound (it's been awhile) but it kept overheating the same way or even worst, so I thought it may be a cooler problem... Thanks!

    • @dellpartspeople
      @dellpartspeople  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, they just have a tendency to overheat. You could try using a laptop cooling pad, but there cooling ability will be marginal. Overheating will happen more often if you use the laptop for Auto-Cad or gaming. The on-board GPUs don't handle Auto-Cad and gaming very well.

      This model does not have a dedicated graphics card. The 5520 either has integrated Intel graphics (via CPU) or discrete AMD graphics (via AMD Radeon HD 7670M) built onto the motherboard. The 7520 only has discrete AMD graphics (via AMD Radeon HD 7730M) but, neither have a removable graphics card.

I looked at the i7s and they are only marginally faster than the i5 and the i5 is half the price. This video is the definitive guide for the 5520.

    hey man, i have this dell inspiron 17R 7720 SE. i have a weird issue, I know this laptop has a hybrid nvidia intel GPU for some reason my nvidia GPU is never detected,
    it only runs on intel graphics, I have tried installing even linux system on my PC to see if that could fix the issue, but the problem is still as it is.
    ANY HELP FROM YOUR SIDE WOULD BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED. if you can help me solve this issue, and make my GPU work. thanks.

      The graphics is built onto the motherboard. The motherboards cost around $250

    * says to remove the ram and hard drive
    * shows how
    * says to remove more screws
    * still has the ram and hard drive in while removing them

    This is a great video and i appreciate it, but whatever idiot at Dell designed this laptop case deserves a special place in hell. In my case WIndows 10 bricked a laptop and i need to reset the CMOS i literally have to take the whole machine apart to get to the CMOS battery?

      Yes, unfortunately the CMOS is on the bottom side of the motherboard. Also, I don't know that removing the CMOS battery will fix your problem. I've heard of Windows 10 bricking because of BIO problems but replacing the motherboard was the only fix.

      There's a pretty long thread on Dell's website regarding it. I've got time this weekend to mess with it, then i'm probably just going to put Ubuntu or CentOS on it and not have to worry about it happening a second time.

      I agree. It sounds like a bad DC jack or motherboard. One or both will have to be replaced.
