Buckle up for an unforgettable journey to a memorable time in Springbok rugby with 1995 Rugby World Cup champion Johan Roux. Johan shares his journey from his debut against England in 1994 to the tough tour to New Zealand that followed to the glorious moment when South Africa won the Rugby World Cup the following year.
But not all was well at that stage. Roux takes us behind the scenes to what happened as the game was turning professional. It was not plain sailing as they say. Johan played under Ian McIntosh, Kitch Christie and Andre Markgraaff and gives his take on each of the men who led the Boks in the mid-90s. He also gives an insight into Louis Luyt.

33:05 Trivia question
Peter says: I love the Springboks and rugby is one of my favourite sports. Although as a sports journalist I am supposed to remain neutral, I always like to point out that before I became a professional, I was just a big fan! I hold a Masters Degree in International Journalism so at least you know I should be able to ask a good question or two! My dream is to do this TH-cam Channel permanently. It looks like he swallowed 4 props in whole since he played.
Come on Clive, you're better than that boet. Unnecessary comment.
Johan Roux was a nuggety little scrummy. Great to hear him after all these years.
Very good player and a World Cup winner to boot. Really pleased I could get him on and he was great.
Peter, best question you have asked: "Did you get a shot in?" Johan Roux against Canada. Classic!
Haha, glad you liked it Francis.
Another great chat.Thanks.
Thanks Bruce!
Another terrific video. Really enjoy your interviews. Great memories of great players
Thanks Trevor. It's always great to receive message of support and encouragement. Really glad you enjoyed it and yes, it's great to go down memory lane with our heroes!
An interesting interview Peter- Johan was a good scrumhalf in the 1990s but always played second fiddle to Joost! Formed a great half-back combination with Hennie le Roux for Transvaal.
Thanks Sean. Glad you liked it. Yeah, he was the guy who filled in for Joost but a very good player in his own right. Look at what he achieved in domestic rugby for example. Glad I could get him on. He was a great guest.
Is it really necessary to make negative body-shaming weight comments about Johan Roux in the comments? He is a good guy who sweated blood for the Bok jersey. Great video as always. I remember him partnering with Naas Botha in the 1991 Currie Cup final. Tidy scrummie.
Cheers for calling it out!
Johan was a great player. Any man who went all the way to represent the Springboks is a hero and a legend in my book.
Scotland was the Boks first opponents in 2006
Spot on!
