James Small, and then he became the first Springbok ever to be sent off in the 3rd test, which we lost 12-19! Sent off by the same referee, Ed Morrison, who went on to ref the 1995 RWC final.
Great player. We always had great players but just 2 or 3 coaches that knew what they were doing. Most of our coaches since 93 were qualified to coach U14 rugby.. thank God for Rassie.
I have to say that I have never been a fan of teams handing out hammerings to each other. I don't think it reflects well and can be so humiliating, it takes huge guts to come back from. I remember we played a team at Under 18 and they were worse than useless. In truth and reflecting back, I give them massive respect for turning up. They knew what was coming, had none of the skills to match us, yet still went out and played. I truly regret the behaviour of some of my teammates sky diving over for tries etc. I can guarantee you that a couple of them went missing when our chips were down in different games and we needed someone to step up. Yeah, its not a good memory reflecting back.
Excellent points you make. No need to humiliate your opponents. It's almost like the kid who gets bullied. As soon as that kid is in a position to be the bully he often takes the chance.
Those "trophies" mean NOTHING!
Highly intelligent man.Thanks Charl.
Glad you enjoyed it, Leon.

Good knowledge, Ashley. Spot on.
Just one thing, James was sent off in the second Test.
Thanks for the correction @@frontrowrugby correct, at Ballymore!
That's it! Ballymore! I don't think they play rugby there anymore.
@@frontrowrugby Quite right, the Reds now play at Suncorp Stadium.

Charl that team you played in with the Men in black was the best times going to Newlands!!❤️💙💪🏼👆🏿
I remember it like it was yesterday! Should have won the whole thing in 1999.

@@WarrenFelix Haha, yeah, me too. It hurts!
Great interview...Thx Peter...something I noticed...these ex Bok players always smile remembering James Small..the original "bad boy"...
Thanks Sakabula! James Small was clearly a very popular man. Great player.

Yeah our coaching has not always been up to par. I do believe Rassie is working on that aspect too to ensure we have better coaching standards.
Mark Andrews played 77 tests, not 80 Charl.
James small
Spot on!
