    Im so incredibly thankful for you and for doing these videos. I’ve been so scared since I’ve injured my knee and have a meniscus tear. Watching the videos you’ve made on this injury has helped ease my mind. I was literally praying God to guide me to wise ways to help my knee heal and recover.

    Thank you so very much for making these videos. These are just the sort of doubts one has when suffering a meniscus tear. Your points on when to wear a brace:
    - To give you confidence to move
    - Signal to others that you’re injured
    - Remind yourself that you’re injured
    Are just so spot on!
    I do have a question. How long should one continue to wear the brace. I’ve been told that the healing time for a meniscus tear is about 6 weeks. So should it be for the entire 6 weeks period? Thanks again! ❤

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you have a very minor meniscus injury, it might take 6 weeks but actually most take 12 weeks or longer. So, don't worry if your knee is still a bit iffy after 6 weeks. You should only use the brace for as long as you feel you need it. If your knee feels strong and your rehab is going well, there really isn't much point. In practice people tend to wean off it - so initially use it for nearly everything and then as time goes on just for the occasions where they are likely to overdo things until finally they realize they are not using it at all.

    What about an osteotomy operation? What type of knee brace should I use? I still get some swollen sometimes.

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is likely best to check with your doctor what they think is best - they may have a very specific brace that they find is best. You might benefit from an unloader but only if the osteotomy is in a specific area.

    Thanks for the information, Very helpful. I have had 4 key hole surgeries for a medial meniscus tear on the same knee since 2016. I have never worn a brace, but i think i will wear one especially for squatting down. Could you recommend one that i can wear under trousers. Thank you

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't have a recommendation for that - you will have to experiment but in my opinion, the ones that provide stability will only fit under very baggy trousers.

      Hinged brace for serious
      Soft brace for less serious

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It really depends on how unstable your knee feels. In most cases the soft braces are enough - I might go for a soft one with some supports on the sides. Like one of these: Dr. Brace: geni.us/tL7A2fm

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio

      It is usually OK to ease back into running once you've completed your rehab and your physio has told you that your knee has recovered enough to do so.

    Is it common for me to have itchy and painful bumps where my brace is?

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That can happen when your skin is sensitive to sweat - some ppl who are prone to eczema or other skin conditions get this. You will have to leave the brace off as much as possible for it to calm down and then only use the brace when needed. But obviously I don't know why you're using the brace so please check with your doctor or physio who suggested that you wear it that it is OK for your injury to remove the brace.

    Should you wear these during sitting and is sitting good or bad for horizontal menicus tear

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You don't need it for sitting and no, if you sit with your knee in a comfortable position, it is absolutely fine. You may feel stiff getting up and moving but that is just due to being still in one position for so long. But the key is that the sitting position must be comfortable - if it hurts you must adjust it.

    What do you recommend after meniscus surgery for returning to sports?

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends - if your rehab has gone well and your physio is confident that you're able to do all the moves without issue, you may not need a brace. But if you still want some support, I would go for a soft one like this geni.us/sCjsdoS

    Can we do exercises with chondral thinning

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, but you have to choose your exercises so that it does not increase your pain. Good options include cycling on stationary bike and swimming. But you can (and should) usually also do strength training but with that it is important to get guidance from a physio to ensure your exercises are at the correct level for you.

    Hello and love your videos 👍 my question is I have a grade 1 medial meniscus tear I was feeling better after like 3 months, afterwards I started PT and my knee is in pain swollen so I stopped going to the PT bcuz I got bad again. So I wanted to ask should I start doing PT at another place and should I wait till the pain and swelling subside before I start again. Thank you in advance and you Rock!!!

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Glad you found the video useful! Here's how you can decide:
      1. As a physio it can be difficult to predict how an exercise will affect a patient - sometimes it can be 100% fine while they do it and then cause a flare-up and pain later which you really did not think would happen.
      2. If you told your physio about this flare-up and they just told you to continue the same exercises and it continued getting worse, then I would go somewhere else because the person should be adapting your plan to find what is right for you.
      3. But if you've not given them this feedback, then I would first go back there and give them the chance to adapt your plan and give you more tailored advice.

      I have meniscus tear n went through exactly the same situation. My experience says that if u r getting pain n swelling after physio exercises, it means you have to stop doing all exercises till the pain n swelling go away n then start off with gentle exercises. Basically the exercises r not apt for your current level of fitness.I suffered for 1.5 months with my physiotherapist .Change the physiotherapist n start off with gentle exercises
