LAC Vs LoC: The Lines Of No Control

  • China and Pakistan are two prickly neighbours India has, countries with which India has boundary-related problems. But border trouble on India’s eastern frontier is quite different from the one to the west. The Line of Control (LoC) is part of 3323 km Indo-Pak border. It’s active, violent and has been a preferred infiltration route by terrorists housed and backed by Pakistan. But it’s well-demarcated on the ground. Any intruder can be shot dead. On the contrary, the Line of Actual Control (LAC) that’s seen quite a few violent face-offs between Indian and Chinese in the past month or so is completely imaginary, with both sides having differing perceptions about where the line lies. There’s a clutch of border peace agreements in place but it was violated by China earlier this week, leading to casualties on both sides. In this episode of ‘Simply Nitin’, StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale distinguishes the LoC from the LAC and why the latter, despite largely being peaceful for the past 40 years, sees occasional Chinese aggression.

Status of LAC will not be changed by Chinese until Option 1. Chinese are on their knees( that is not gonna happen in next 50 years)
Option 2. Chinese do not feel any threat for CPEC and their economic interest in the region from india ( India will not change it's position regarding pakistan, sadly)
Therefore, India has to tolerate this bullying similar as Modi Government is bullying its minorities in the present and its neighbours in the future.
    Both

In the counter-attack following the killing of their commanding officer Colonel B Santosh Babu by Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops in Ladakh's Galwan valley, the jawans of 16 Bihar regiment, using the most "primitive fighting methods", snapped the necks of at least 18 PLA troops and smashed their faces beyond recognition, reports Deccan Chronicle.
The jawans of 16 Bihar were reportedly joined by the 'Ghatak' troops. Together, they "unleashed a reign of terror, unheard in modern military history", the report said.

    • @brijesh1998
      @brijesh1998 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Very well brought out. Only clarification is that the LoC is not fenced. The LoC fencing is actually an anti infiltration fence to prevent/ restrict militants from infiltrating and doesn't necessarily move along the exact line of the LoC. In many places it moves within our area. Therefore the LoC fence must not be misunderstood as the LoC persay.

Sir, I have question why is border with Pak in J&K is called LOC and not LAC when it is more definitive and properly demarcated by fencing.. Isnt LOC has more features of an Line of actual control in the literal meaning of the words.

    • @varunv.chadha492
      @varunv.chadha492 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Good question. The LOC with Pakistan was officially called the _ceasefire_ line. The two countries renamed the _cfl_ to _Line of Control_ during Indo-Pak Shimla Agreement , 1972 when both countries agreed to find solution to the dispute bilaterally.
Since India is the legal owner of Aksai Chin, a part of J&K, 1947, the LAC could not be named as Indo-China, or Indo-Tibetan border. Parts of LAC were formed as per Chinese claim during 1962 war. Non-demarcated LAC is a dispute within a dispute where both sides claim their own perceived line.
About LAC: When the discussions of boundary started with China, effectively from 1993, the name given by India was Line-Of-Actual-Control, or LAC, just not to have any confusion in future against an established LOC. The name LAC was accepted by both India and China in their joint 1993 agreement. A non demarcated LAC separates the controlled territories between India and China, while LOC is a well demarcated line against Pakistan. Having said that, Pakistan has tried to alter the well demarcated LOC. Last it attempted during Kargil, 1999, precisely 21 years ago.
Hope I have cleared your doubts.
      Do well. Jai Hind.

If you take the india- China(occupied Tibet and Xinjiang)-Afghanistan tri junction- the total length of India and China (occupied Tibet and Xinjiang)border is of length 4056 km. And secondly the border between Tibet and Indian state of Sikkim is an international border and not an LAC except for some as usual Chinese self proclaimed claim areas.

it s worth noting that ever since 1950s, India has been adopting the so-called "Forward Policy". It was India who started the salami slicing tactic on the LAC, until it was taught a good lesson in 1962. Forward policy never stopped for India and the PP14 incident in Galwan valley is another good lesson for India to learn, at the price of 20+ lives.

Dear Nithin, Pls. expose the Indian intelligence and military failure of troop build up by Chinese. The army top brass and higher command, military intelligence let down the country for their brutal mistake of NOT securing hill tops for their supply road to DBO. They repeated the same mistake of kargil leaving hill top and exposing the supply road to enemy. It was again the front line young soldiers with exemplary courage, valor and bravery loosing life and saving army ass. I've a army friend, who says higher command in desk jobs only interested in enjoying British era rules which favors them.

Hello Nitin, Thanks for a very informative video. However, (1) can you please draw 3 lines on the India China map and show up to which line we control the area with our army post and continuous physical presence, the line up to which we have patrolling posts (and are not physically present throughout the year) and similarly on the Chinese side. (2) Are there any points on LAC where can do a Pangang Tso on Chinese and which could be strategically useful to us? (3) Now that we have improved our infrastructure on LAC, what else we have to do make it at par with China? (4) Can we now say that every move by Chinese in future will be contested and stopped by India, given this incident and loss of our faith with Chinese? (5) If diplomatic moves fail to achieve status quo ante say before end Aug 2020 and if politically it is so decided, how tough it would be to achieve status quo ante by military means in a matter of 2 weeks? Please respond. Thanks

India's new China policy should be:
    1. 'No' to one china policy & stop referring it as Mainland China. Establish diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
    2. Diversify exports and imports from china to other countries. Try mass manufacturing most of that import list within country for domestic consumption as well as for export.
    3. Treat even a nail given to Pakistan equivalent to a bullet given and reply in kind by helping Chinese enemies like Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam etc by providing them all kinds of armaments including export variant of tejas.
    4. Independent Tibet should be a priority under indian protection, start showing tibet and other occupied lands as separate in maps..
    5. Taking control back of all parts of J&K under occupation of either of the two idiots should be paramount and if needed, should be taken back with force.
    6. Install missile systems that carry all sorts of payloads on both sides just like Russia did.(iskander)
    7. Recognition of Taiwan, and supporting all factions anti china/pakistan like tibet/hongkong/sidhi/balouchitan and others
    8. Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka should be sheilded from china & Pakistan influences and we need to bring them under indian protection.
    9. Try and replace china in manufacturing either by yourself or by forming a consortium of like minded countries.
    10. Join forces with USA and if needed land in boots in to Afghanistan and in return get hi tech hardware from US at preferential rates

It would be nice if you were to look up some international maps, since your channel is spreading information about the topic, its pretty idiotic to have a wrongly classified map. Similarly, international maps call the Pakistani side of the kashmir area as Pakistani occupied Kashmir, not Pakistani occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu is the area under Indian control. The other side is kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan

For security n safety against Chinese attack
If we had NATO army in our border
We can do same thing with china
In other critical area around LAC
We should also captured those patrolling point in future
    To teach Chinese a lesson

You cannot join Nato. Which agreement? You tried doing that in 1962. It is not possible to establish a strategic base in the Indian side. What is the point of getting Independence then?

To cut the chase... Gloves are off. Any more transgression shd be met by fierce and heavy hand and use of brutal force. Lets give them taste of how an hot border shd be. And raise human and other associated costs of manning the LAC.

Not possible. India does not have the economy to have that. Chinese reserves + swf are 1.5 times of Indian economy. India is like Pakistan for China.

Nitin, obviously you're Indian but your videos are so one sided and completely biased. You need to state views from all sides and not just propogate the Indian stance. This is the reason why Indias neighbours detest India so much because India is so one dimensional.
