Clearly your view is just very linear and you don't look at to be picture of people's lives. It is actually very difficult to trade away players when you're a western Australian club I tell you why is because we are so far from the eastern states asking 28 to 32-year-old players to suddenly up their whole life and family to the eastern states to play one or two seasons just will not wash. Remember trades are still driven by the fact that the player has to want to Go so it's not as easy for western Australian clubs because players have to up their whole life to the eastern states, where as a Victorian player that gets traded to a Victorian team doesn't even need to move house so think about what that would look like for a whole family to up themselves to the eastern states. You don't look at people as commodities. They are still human beings and people.

They haven't been able to trade anyone because any player with some sort of value has been injured for the last 18 months. Their value has gone.
So what is the point in trading someone like Elliot Yeo for a 3rd round pick? Because that's all you'd get for him.
The kid West Coast draft will more than likely never be good enough to carve out an AFL career. So keeping Yeo around the club until his contract is finished is the better option as he can at least provide some leadership around the club and is still half decent when he does play.
What has happened at West Coast is the perfect storm. This year is supposed to be their first of the rebuild, but they haven't been able to do it as the kids they've drafted have also battled injury. It is madness.

Eagles will bottom out in 2024 and 2025 as veterans retire. By end of 2025 they would have had 5 years of early draft picks. By 2025 over half of the team will be under 22. Last two years its just been injuries, don't believe the shockjocks. The bottom 10 players are getting regular games and guys are being played out of position. Only 26 fit this week. The list managers and recruiters were all revamped 24 months ago. New assistatn coaches last year. New fitness teams at the end of last year. Cornes and Barrett know all this. But you keep hearing them being dishonest and misleading. The changes have been made. They've spent 2 years going hard for kids in the draft and loading up draft picks. The only criticism comes to them needing to explain 2 year extensions. But that's not impacting recruiting. They're on track, it will just take time. Last two years its been injuries. But next 2 years will be tough as guys retire. Their best players are the veterans virtually every week.

Have you ever seen a club that has been decimated with injuries we literally had 23 fit players to pick from for this team... You look at North Melbourne have actually been pretty much injury free all season by one or two players. They've only won one more game than what we've won and Hawthorne they've had pretty much a full list pic from and they were pretty trashy last year. They have one what is it three games or four. No team in the history of the game has had this many injuries. In fact, there were two guys out there yesterday he got injured during the game that should've come off but couldn't. Yep, I'm defending my club because that's what diehard supporters do we don't sit here and trash our club and burn our memberships on call for sackings like Carlton and all those Victorian clubs do and then they find those Victorian clubs take 10 or 15 years to rebuild our rebuild will probably happen in 2 to 3 years because we've always done that and that's okay. This is just our turn to suck. We are not like North Melbourne have sucked for 10 years. We are not like Carlton he sucked for 15 years, we are not like Essendon who sucked for 20 years.....

In the next year or two Gaff, McGovern, Shuey etc. finish those contracts and then what? It's not the NBA, so whether you pay a handful of players a lot or spread it out across the list the payroll of 1st and 18th are pretty similar.

I think it comes down to inexperience, lack of talent, lack of resilience... Guys are out of position because of so many injuries. Guys are mentally shot. Fact is not everyone is elite and can perform when the backs are to the wall. Coach can't do anything really to stop it. You can't drop guys as everyone is out injured. You can't even run them into form in the reserves. You can't work hard on the training track because you have 25 available for a match, but probably 6 are being rested during the week due to soreness. So you don't have enough to do proper drills and trial stuff. Coaches will look at who plays badly in these big losses and make a call.

Not sure what TJ was trying to do there. Eagles have earned every criticism that Kane and even Damo can dish out. A ten-goal hiding in that match would have been understandable given the bottom twelve talent level, but there were too many experienced players on the park for the Eagles to give up thirty-one goals and fifty scoring shots on seventy-seven inside 50s. The word "unacceptable" keeps being thrown around, but how many of those veterans will still return for another go-round next year?

I know this game had a number of senior players back in but they wont be at full capacity. Can’t imagine spending 9 days in hospital and then coming out to play so quickly afterwards is good. The other thing is the injuries are probably made worse by having such a young and/or not conditioned players coming in. Agree with some of the recruiting, TK not worth the trade, AG i rated in years past for his stamina but the game has is faster and these 2 players are not. Kane could take an unbiased approach explaining both what it is like, playing in a team, performing to that level, and how quickly it can be turned around, but he’d rather just take cheap shots because he has a vendetta against one of their players.

This is the result of a club not having 2 pre-seasons due to injuries, and the 2 most injury ravaged seasons in AFL history.
They are left with kids who aren't ready for AFL footy yet. Kids that should be developing in the WAFL, then gradually introduced into the first team.
And they are left with senior players who are nowhere near as fit as their opponent because they are playing injured, have just returned from injury or missed another preseason. For some players, it is all 3 of those.
The Eagles injury run is unprecedented, which is why they are now losing at unprecedented levels.
Sacking the coach and CEO does not improve the fitness of the 43 players on the list. Sure, sacking the club doctor, physio, sports scientists, etc, makes a lot of sense because they have not been doing their job. The club have announced a month ago they are looking to employ the best medical team in the world of sport.
To just say the coach is no good, the CEO has been there for too long and the players aren't trying is just a lazy observation. Look at the reasons why the coach appears to be struggling, look at why the players appear to not be trying. It all comes back to fitness!

WTF?!?!?! All for a guy out of contract that wanted to come home. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. That is not how you win football.
Also when you don't put in the work, and keep so many players on your list with terrible injury history, what do you expect to happen? Clubs would have given up something for Yeo, Shuey, Hurn, Nic Nat.
The injury list has also been greatly exaggerated and there are a ton of players who have been on it who are the kids and are nobodies. What was the excuse on the weekend? Didn't have enough from Jordyn Baker, Coby Burgial or Greg Clark.

"Tim Kelly is terrific when he wants to get a handball receive or an uncontested mark" - he's currently sitting just outside top 10 for clearances, contested possessions and he's third for ground ball gets in the league. He's actually changed his game this year to try to help out more in an inside role. Easy to start pointing fingers in a situation like this but lets not all go full Kane Cornes here with the sensationalist click-bait stuff and be rational. 17 players on the injury list currently (this week actually better than most) while other clubs have as few as 4. There isn't a lever or button a new coach or CEO can press to fix things this year, but we can certainly downgrade and make things worse with a knee-jerk response by sacking someone because some washed "journos" decided its time to make them a sacrifice.

    • @BDub2024
      @BDub2024 ปีที่แล้ว

Reid will be good for sure. But you'd expect other players to end up being better from that draft. Eagles could swap for three youngsters in first round. @@BDub2024 Either GWS, North, Melbourne or Hawthorn could get him maybe. But that will of course have to be a massive trade done during the trade period like the JHF mega trade. I reckon it will take 2 first round picks and some to get it done.
GWS looks the most likely option if they decide to trade Pick 1. The Giants can trade what is currently Pick 5 and Pick 7 in this year's draft, and add to that a future first for Reid. I'm sure the Eagles would take that.
North could trade Pick 2 and Pick 17 in this year's draft and add a future first for Reid. Pretty good for WCE considering Pick 2 is the next best after 1.
Melbourne is an interesting one because they have an extra first this year after the Jackson trade last year. They would trade what is currently Pick 8 and Pick 15, along with a future first for Reid.
Hawthorn is a bit of a bolter in this one. The Hawks could trade Pick 3, a future first (which will likely be high compared to the other teams, maybe except North), and Denver Grainger-Barras (Pick 6 from the 2020 draft, also a WA boy). Perhaps not as good as the other teams but definitely something the Eagles could use.
Overall, I think it's up to Harley. If Reid says he's fine heading West to play for the worst club in the comp, then they'll pick him. If not, I reckon he'll be at the Giants. The other clubs only have a small chance imo.
