Wow, and here I was thinking I was the only one who thought this. Even on the Sunday Footy Show the eagles barely get a mention let alone spoken about for more than a minute…it’s something I’ve noticed happening for quite awhile now.
I like Simmo, he’s had a successful coaching career here and he’s a likeable guy. But geez it’s almost been too bad to be true, not just this season but the past 3 seasons we’ve underperformed terribly. To the point now, ‘tanking’ is being thrown around. We have 15 premiership players still on our list, not even the oldest list in the comp either, Geelong has that taken care of and where are Geelong? Contending for finals. Not saying we should be contending for finals, but no way in hell should we be rock bottom getting humiliated every week. Something has to give unfortunately and that comes from the top, clearly Simmo and/or his staff have gone stale on the playing group (they also deserve every criticism).
It doesn't matter how many premiership players you have on the list if they are not on the park! Who would have you rather been in the last 3 -4 years Geelong that have tinkered at the top , but haven't got there or Westcoast that have won a flag ?( also Geelong have zero chance of winning it within the foreseeable future !) Dont underestimate lack of selection pressure and team connection you get from having a stable team playing week in and out ! It is this simple if you can win a flag every ten or so years like Westcoast you are a dam good club anything above that could be deemed unrealistic ! injury luck or lack of go a long way in the modern game , don't believe look at the rotation of players due to injury in the top 8 teams and their injury lists. Sometimes you need to fall hard to rise quick which Westcoast have a history of doing.
From the outside looking in, it seems like Fremantle were better prepared for when Covid restrictions were eased. But West Coast will learn from this & be the better for it next year, or maybe the year after that. But it's Fremantle turn to shine this year - & hopefully Fremantle's membership numbers improve on this year's showing. Anyway West Coast should have stuck with their predominantly younger list who beat Collingwood - which would have been better for the club long term - instead of bringing back these come-backing, underprepared senior players.
Agreed, I think mateship and loyalty has been taken too far, the same underperforming faces get a call up each week and others don't get the chance to show what they can do, and yes, I know the number of fit players available has been a problem for them.
Been a WC member for many years and I've finally had enough of their lack lustre performance and the excuses put forward by Simpson. Their lack of performance has gone far beyond unacceptable to ridiculous. Membership is not cheap and when there's no return on one's investment, it's a bad investment. I'm really disappointed by their performance not just this year, but the last few years. Something radical needs to be done, entirely new lineup, new coach, something. As I said, I've been an avid supporter and member through all the ups and downs, but no more. Enough is enough.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I agree as a WC supporter...I think it is a number of things & not one issue...I still believe that they will or have learnt by this year's problems but will bounce back upon their rebuilding process...but it will take time as other AGL sides have done ..eg Melbourne FC & Hawthorne FC... cheers 😀

Keep in mind Nate that The Eagles have only been in the AFL Competition for 36 Years overall. An average of 1 Premiership every 9 Years is certainly not of an A+ Standard, but it's a long way from disgracefulness all the same.

Red Tiger, A+ Standards to me is 99 out of 100 and it is near on impossible to achieve a result like that. But all things considered, I think The Eagles Premiership strike rate is hovering around The A- to straight A territory, especially when You consider that they didn't have a home ground advantage for 3 of their Premierships and there was no real advantage to either team, when they defeated The Swans.

Nowhere near looked after with multiple Home games like Richmond, Melbourne, Collingwood etc etc. Most members of any AFL club. West Coast will always bounce back. I believe what needs to be recognised is the fantastic levels of performance by a dozen teams this year that has made the Eagles successful return so much more difficult. I have seen the same scenario in other codes which can delay a successful return to 2 or 3 seasons. No question also that the umpiring has favoured a hectic somewhat frantic Irish style of football that favours the concept of instant turn over to sweeping counter attack, often missing illegal play to favour that style. No question this ugly style doesn't suite the Eagles structures and dominance of key players. Personally I am turning away from the game as it's lost its character and it's style. Let the Irish play their own style and let's get back to good old AFL footy.

Being WC they will be back in the top 8 within a few years and challenging for the flag within 5 so I'm not sure what all the hoohaa is about. They have been very bad this year for sure but they've been the most successful club since they've been in the competition so big deal

Tanking for draft picks is a massive myth, and just not worth it. It’s extremely rare that the No 1 draft pick is that much better, or even better at all, than the next 4 or 5 picks. Just have to look through the top 10 drafts of years gone by to see the truth.

Bottom line in this whole situation where the West Coast Eagles are at right now is you look at the amount of players that have played from round 1 to round 10 or just before the bye,it is a staggering only 3-4 players that hav played in all of the games till now..AND THAT IS NOT A AFL TEAM,wen all other sides had players of at least 10-15 that hav played all games from round 1 to now,yes Covid,injuries,and players that come back into the side then some get injured or protocols hit,all the other stupidity stuff that is made by this mediation crap,is out of wat there think could or couldn’t happen, I love my Eagles and I know for sure senior players debuts,younger players coming in once we have the team that’s meant to be out there on the ground for more than half the season or or at least 6 to 10 games yes the odd one or two players might be out,on injury but those players will know who will come in and replacing there part in the side..so in hindsight..getting the consistent players playing as a team for long amounts of rounds should b the answer bottom line,and it will happen second half this year,then the EAGLES will b back GO WEST COAST..I’ll b there at the next MCG game against Richmond,and I will always giv my voice in passion for u blokes
