While I love the concept of her being Shy off-stage I just *have* to point out that as someone who usually has curly hair there is just *absolutely no way* she could have perfect curls all day at school then instantly have perfectly straight hair as soon as she leaves *and then* come to school the next day with perfect curls again *everyday* without spending *several hours* every freaking day re-styling her hair over and over 😅 Might I suggest instead that her shy persona hides her gorgeous curls in a braid? 1. Braids are still sort of a "shy girl hairstyle" and they can be pretty demure and subdued. 2. Braids can actually be a very good way to keep curls in shape *and* out of the way without you having to do much styling once you undo the braids. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.

@@anlydaly5726 that's not such a big deal. This is an anime world, like... The entire drama club has the same hair color and eye color in the game. If we keep that then it wouldn't be such an uncommon color. Plus she acts different outside of school not inside. My advice about the braids is more to make the design more realistic, if she had to like wear a wig or dye her hair all the time that would be more troublesome in my opinion.

Just wanted to add a little bit of realism, anime hair is magical sometimes but you take such care about including this personality flip as a major part of her story that I felt I had to mention that curls would be hard to maintain with the current design of her true self. @@zofiem.9468 To tack onto this: even in the real world if you don't know someone that well, you often latch onto differences. So if someone changes subtle things about themselves appearance and personality-wise, it isn't difficult to see how others can assume they're different people. That's the idea behind things like superhero comics. :) I agree about the braids though, that would be super cute.
I love her already. Hated Kizana's character of "I'm a bitch just because. I have no other facets." So Izumi being multi-faceted with her other self is wonderful. I can definitely see her becoming super close friends with our Yandere. Possibly the closest friend and confidant to the point where Himari would feel a slight yandere obsession towards her as well in the sense of "This girl is my best friend. You harm her and I will burn you alive." In a decent ending with Izumi alive: Izumi could use her family's influence to help protect Himari from the law, get her a new identity, assist her in getting new meds, a new place to live, etc. From a gameplay perspective, even if a player was going a murder route, Izumi definitely seems like the best person to keep alive and befriend thus far. I love it.
If i had to rewrite/redesign oka id make her more of a sweet and approachable person who dresses in a gothic Halloween aesthetic,why would she do this? Most people would say she likes Halloween others would say nothing of it
We never had a chance to have Kizana in the game, but some information gets loose at times and one of them is that Kizana is from a wealthy family and has a complicated relationship with her parents, that could explain why she wanted to be the best and have so much attitude. Just to show you a little bit of what the original story would look like if YandereDev ended or at least showed us, Calli did something really cool with it.
So here's a suggestion that has floating around my head since you started this series. For context, I love Osoro, the delinquent character in the game, so much and really want her character to shine more in the community. So, Osoro in your cannon, will probably still have aggressive side, but this time around, her actions in school actually has a consequences. The reason why she's still at the school is because she's a niece of one of the faculty members who constantly vouch for her. However that stunt doesn't work again and she is closed to being expelled. Then she meets Senpai and starts a rivalry to see who is stronger. During her constant fights with him, she let it slip that she has a troubled home life. Despite the fact Senpai is annoyed by this girl, he can relate with her and her home life but can't stand her attitude. He decides to take her under his wing in the martial arts and teach her how to control her anger. The reason why she gone most of time is because she was wrongly convicted of a incident and thankfully only got suspended due to Senpai and her aunt's involvement. In order to keep her safe, she stays at either her aunt's or Senpai's house for the time being. For personality, she is fiery like Reika(love the name by the way) but a little more mellow out. Ooooh, what if her aunt is actually the Guidance Councillor? That would make sense in so many ways... As for the troubled home life... Perhaps Osoro’s mother (Councillor’s sister or maybe even twin) is married to an alcoholic? Who is abusive and made her cut ties with the relatives. But eventually the mom gets hospitalized, the dad goes to jail, and Aunt is forced to take Osoro under her wing. She gets her a place at Akademi to keep a closer eye on her, but she underestimated the effect that the abusive household had on her niece, and the degree of her delinquency, which is simply unacceptable. And now the Councillor needs to stake her career on redeeming Osoro. And perhaps Yan-chan can help with that.
The more you do these, the more I REALLY want this to be a game. Yanderes aren’t just killers, and it’s kinda disappointing how Yandere Dev has kinda changed a definition of a yandere. And having the game’s good ending bettering yourself gives it so much good storytelling. Please someone at least make a visual novel. It might fit this idea better than a “Anime Girl Hitman sandbox” game
I always thought of yanderes as like, really overprotective people, would not hesitate to cross the line basically, but not only with love interests, but with friends and family too, and not only in a violent way, but crossing the line of morality and stuff

Its just I get possessive and constantly think about them all the time. If I'll ever see them again do they miss me?, what do they think of me, how are they? Are they still OK and alive and well? And so on. It got to the point that I found it was hurting me more than anything.... Fuck, I'm so lonely.
I feel yandere Dev has good foundation for the game, The game is a good and interesting idea but when it comes to the characters they are sort of one dimensional and basic stereotypes of personalities, if he sat down and created a back story and developed the girls just like in this video the game would vastly improve 💕 I love her backstory in this vid and the art is adorable

23:40 Headcanon: She told him that her name was Kokona, which can kinda write out the weirdness of Kizana and Kokona being basically identical. "Kokona" is the name she gave her true self so that she wouldn't have to be judged.

Something that came to mind for me while watching you work, it seems like every character struggles mentally with something and since she struggles with self esteem, I wouldn't be surprised of maybe the idea that Izumi is struggling with an eating disorder? The idea that it's kind of imposed on her by her parents to "stay beautiful" and overtime as she beings to sort of idolize her persona, she starts believing that her real self is bleeding into her "ideal" self if that makes sense? So, tbh, I hated Kizana when she was shown. I still do. I hate people who are self entitled and such. I am a theater kid so that's the only reason I tolerated her. Hojo is some much better, both in design and story. She so far is 100% my favorite rival.

I love this Kizana so much more than the one we have I can’t wait to see how you make Oka better than how YanDev made her I’m probably going to say that she has social anxiety or is very scared of people Also give her a reason to be shy, because she at the very least need a reason to be shy because most of the backstories often have reasons why the characters are the way they are(I have an Oc who’s timid and shy because his parents were sheltering him from the real world after a car accident) I’m sorry for reading my Oc’s backstory, but I’m kind of giving an example just to show how a character’s personality can be formed But it’s Calli’s ideas so she can do whatever she wants to do, it’s her series.
I won't speak for Calli, but I personally imagine that Oka is only half-Japanese. Her mother is another ethnicity entirely, and since Japan can be funny about outsiders, Oka's mother is her only true friend and the only person who really understands her. Then her mother passes away, and not only does she become even more withdrawn than she was already, but she starts getting into witchcraft and anything that can possibly relate to speaking with spirits because she hasn't really moved on from the loss of her mother.

I'm commenting again, but I just have to say. There are so many ends that could come out of what the player does. I created a list of all the things I could think of that could possibly affect the ending. ⚠️TW⚠️ Some of the topics listed may trigger some people, so I would suggest scrolling if you have any triggers around D3@th . . . . - Yan-Chan's mental state - Senpai's mental state - Yan-Chan's realtionship with Senpai - Who is dead? - Who was befriended? - Who was rejected? - Who was arrested? - Does Senpai have a good realtionship with his sister? - Who is Senpai friends with? - How are Yan-Chan's grades? - Has anyone been expelled? - Has Yan-Chan got caught? - Does Senpai know about Yan-Chan's murders? - Has anyone committed suicide? - How much money does Yan-Chan have? - Her relationship with the rich girl - How well does Yan-Chan know Senpai I imagine the mental state is on a scale of High-Low for both Senpai and Yan-Chan. Any and all of these things could effect the ending, and that would total to A LOT of endings for the game. Some of them could be cut out, but a lot of them matter. A few of them dictate how a rival was eliminated, like expulsion or murder. Anything and everything could effect the ending. I imagine if you have a low realtionship with the rich girl (like if you somehow get her in trouble), she would expose you to everyone, and due to her being a lot more wealthy and having evidence (most likely) you could get sent back to the ward, or even imprisoned. If Senpai has a low mental state and a low realtionship with his sister, he will see no more reason to live and commit suicide. There are so many ending and I cant even come up with all of them, so feel free to leave some ideas.
I really like this concept of her! I think a good way to befriend her real self would be if Himari finds out that her parents are going to do a surprise visit and she tells her about it before she changes into her actual self by giving her a note that also tells her that they know that her stage self isn’t her real self. That action will then lead to her giving you a gift of her gratitude the next day after school and she will help boost your popularity, tell you how to act so no one suspects Himari of being a fake, and even help you study for tests and stuff, she can even give a good word for Himari to Seiya. This is just a suggestion I thought was a good idea though!
As someone who loves theatre, Kizana was my favorite rivial back when I was younger and very into yandere simulator. It makes me so happy that you redesigned her and gave her an actual personality! I love this Redesign so much!!✨❤
Ngl I love the designs and all but the names are so fricking amazing. As a writer I can say that (at least to me) the hardest part about creating characters is giving them names and Calli not only makes them have meaning but also sound realistic. And the backstories are all so great, I have no words!
I would love if this storyline was (after the redesign series is finished) made into an actual game! It would be so addicting to me, as I adore a fabulous story!
May I just add that besides your beautiful art style and outstanding character creation and writing, I love that you put so much effort when it comes to japanese culture. You genuinely try to pronounce their names correctly and you also implement things about the culture itself into the storyline writing (stigmas etc) I love it!! It's so refreshing to see someone who's actually so respectful and mindful of the culture

I just binged your revamping Yan Sim series and honestly I'm obsessed with your reimagining with all of the characters and the stories, you really bring them to life by giving them an actual personality and backstory and making them, well, not an eye sore. You're redesigns for all of the characters are gorgeous and I can't wait for more in the future.

Wow, that’s really weird some of the issues you had with the tablet… I had none of those issues except for the slight parallax (the gap between the pen and the screen). I regularly use the express keys on the tablet with Space to navigate the canvas in CSP. I highly advise you to ask them about that problem, they might even send you a new tablet! That one seems defective. It could also be their new driver. I also got a wireless Bluetooth keyboard with this tablet.
When I saw the name "Izumi," I had a small freak out because one of my Kitsune OCs has that name! She has the ability to control water and when I looked up the name, I kept it because it fits with her personality.
I adore this story. I think it would be a very important game, too many people don't truly understand how to interact with others in healthy ways, especially those they're romantically or platonically invested in. It also would be a good way to demonstrate that even though mental struggles are prevalent and important to take seriously, they aren't the end all be all of who a person is, they're another need that has to be addressed and examples of characters who struggle with mental health and have *actually* good coping mechanisms are hard to find. Everything about these concepts is lovely and I adore you and your videos

Bonus note on the name: Hojo sounds phonetically similar to "ojou", which translates literally into "young lady", and is typically used to refer specifically to wealthy, high class young women.
Quick suggestion for the nurse instead of making her the actual nurse you could have her be like a helper of the nurse (cuz a rival being an adult is weird), at least at my school students can help the nurses for "school points" which can help with extra time off or even our permanent record. Uh the student could want to do the nurse thing specifically cuz they want to be a nurse/doctor when they grow up, so they do it both for the experience and so they can seem extra good for their college applications. And senpai could go to the nurse a lot cuz he might get injured alot more from fights or from the martial arts club. Or maybe to check on his health since he was previously in the mental hospital
I was honestly kinda surprised you went with poop or croissants for describing Kizana's hair. My first thoughts were, "Her hair looks really fuckin phallic."
I absolutely adore this version of Kizana. In my opinion, she was probably my favorite (and I use favorite very lightly) designed rivals (besides Osoro but that's my opinion-) in the game. But her character is so boring. Seeing this girl get a redesign makes me so happy because the concept for her is great. I relate to her myself, so playing as Himari and hanging out with her sounds amazing.
I adore the refrence to the dramatis personnae masks with her design (Dramatis personnae are the classic greek theatre masks 🎭 representing comedy and tragedy respectively)
I positively LOVE Izumi, really, she now has such an indepth and even heart touching, which is something I find myself enjoying a whole lot. Her design also strikes so many ups, and I'm in total love for how she's presented now!! Less like a stock and more like an actual person to learn from, in a sense! I really love the concept of Izumi effectively living as two different people and drawing inspiration from the comedy and tragedy masks! I go about it a little differently with the way I wrote it out, but there are similarities in that she's a very different person for her family than she is with the people she's comfortable with. My personal solution for her would be to find a way for both her low key side and her regal/confident side to coexist in the same persona. And giving Himari someone who can relate to the stresses of maintaining two different identities is a great move! I'm actually liking the concept of Izumi unquestionably being Himari's best friend by the end of the story/game.
I feel like they should be more of a platonic way or smth, the nurse doesn't seem like that much of a trouble but the teacher? That's gonna need a lot of rework

I do much prefer this design over the original design I also noticed how it seems like she's trying to play up to society's standards of women in a way with perfect curled hair, perfect face, bigger boobs, big hips and tiny waist, when she's in her stage persona it seems like she's trying to play the perfect beautiful girl while when she's in her other persona it's like she's trying to hide from the expectations in a way covering up her body and not wearing makeup it would make her more comfortable yet not as loved I do have to say this is my favourite out of all of your designs yet please keep up the good work!

@@anlydaly5726 that's not such a big deal. This is an anime world, like... The entire drama club has the same hair color and eye color in the game. If we keep that then it wouldn't be such an uncommon color. Plus she acts different outside of school not inside. My advice about the braids is more to make the design more realistic, if she had to like wear a wig or dye her hair all the time that would be more troublesome in my opinion.

Just wanted to add a little bit of realism, anime hair is magical sometimes but you take such care about including this personality flip as a major part of her story that I felt I had to mention that curls would be hard to maintain with the current design of her true self. So if someone changes subtle things about themselves appearance and personality-wise, it isn't difficult to see how others can assume they're different people. That's the idea behind things like superhero comics. :) I agree about the braids though, that would be super cute.

I love her already. Hated Kizana's character of "I'm a bitch just because. I have no other facets." So Izumi being multi-faceted with her other self is wonderful. I can definitely see her becoming super close friends with our Yandere. Possibly the closest friend and confidant to the point where Himari would feel a slight yandere obsession towards her as well in the sense of "This girl is my best friend. You harm her and I will burn you alive." In a decent ending with Izumi alive: Izumi could use her family's influence to help protect Himari from the law, get her a new identity, assist her in getting new meds, a new place to live, etc.
From a gameplay perspective, even if a player was going a murder route, Izumi definitely seems like the best person to keep alive and befriend thus far. I love it.

We never had a chance to have Kizana in the game, but some information gets loose at times and one of them is that Kizana is from a wealthy family and has a complicated relationship with her parents, that could explain why she wanted to be the best and have so much attitude. Just to show you a little bit of what the original story would look like if YandereDev ended or at least showed us, Calli did something really cool with it.

I felt this on whole another level.
So here's a suggestion that has floating around my head since you started this series. For context, I love Osoro, the delinquent character in the game, so much and really want her character to shine more in the community. So, Osoro in your cannon, will probably still have aggressive side, but this time around, her actions in school actually has a consequences. The reason why she's still at the school is because she's a niece of one of the faculty members who constantly vouch for her. However that stunt doesn't work again and she is closed to being expelled. Then she meets Senpai and starts a rivalry to see who is stronger. During her constant fights with him, she let it slip that she has a troubled home life. Despite the fact Senpai is annoyed by this girl, he can relate with her and her home life but can't stand her attitude. He decides to take her under his wing in the martial arts and teach her how to control her anger. The reason why she gone most of time is because she was wrongly convicted of a incident and thankfully only got suspended due to Senpai and her aunt's involvement. In order to keep her safe, she stays at either her aunt's or Senpai's house for the time being. For personality, she is fiery like Reika(love the name by the way) but a little more mellow out. As for the troubled home life... Perhaps Osoro’s mother (Councillor’s sister or maybe even twin) is married to an alcoholic? Who is abusive and made her cut ties with the relatives. But eventually the mom gets hospitalized, the dad goes to jail, and Aunt is forced to take Osoro under her wing. She gets her a place at Akademi to keep a closer eye on her, but she underestimated the effect that the abusive household had on her niece, and the degree of her delinquency, which is simply unacceptable. And now the Councillor needs to stake her career on redeeming Osoro.
And perhaps Yan-chan can help with that.

The more you do these, the more I REALLY want this to be a game. Yanderes aren’t just killers, and it’s kinda disappointing how Yandere Dev has kinda changed a definition of a yandere. And having the game’s good ending bettering yourself gives it so much good storytelling. Please someone at least make a visual novel. It might fit this idea better than a “Anime Girl Hitman sandbox” game

Something that came to mind for me while watching you work, it seems like every character struggles mentally with something and since she struggles with self esteem, I wouldn't be surprised of maybe the idea that Izumi is struggling with an eating disorder? The idea that it's kind of imposed on her by her parents to "stay beautiful" and overtime as she beings to sort of idolize her persona, she starts believing that her real self is bleeding into her "ideal" self if that makes sense? Great video as usual! :))

I won't speak for Calli, but I personally imagine that Oka is only half-Japanese. Her mother is another ethnicity entirely, and since Japan can be funny about outsiders, Oka's mother is her only true friend and the only person who really understands her. Then her mother passes away, and not only does she become even more withdrawn than she was already, but she starts getting into witchcraft and anything that can possibly relate to speaking with spirits because she hasn't really moved on from the loss of her mother.

I imagine the mental state is on a scale of High-Low for both Senpai and Yan-Chan. Any and all of these things could effect the ending, and that would total to A LOT of endings for the game. Some of them could be cut out, but a lot of them matter.
A few of them dictate how a rival was eliminated, like expulsion or murder. Anything and everything could effect the ending.
I imagine if you have a low realtionship with the rich girl (like if you somehow get her in trouble), she would expose you to everyone, and due to her being a lot more wealthy and having evidence (most likely) you could get sent back to the ward, or even imprisoned. If Senpai has a low mental state and a low realtionship with his sister, he will see no more reason to live and commit suicide. There are so many ending and I cant even come up with all of them, so feel free to leave some ideas.
Idea:
-when you became friends with Kizana she can teach you acting so you can act surprised, shocked or sad when a dead body is found(?)

I think a good way to befriend her real self would be if Himari finds out that her parents are going to do a surprise visit and she tells her about it before she changes into her actual self by giving her a note that also tells her that they know that her stage self isn’t her real self.
That action will then lead to her giving you a gift of her gratitude the next day after school and she will help boost your popularity, tell you how to act so no one suspects Himari of being a fake, and even help you study for tests and stuff, she can even give a good word for Himari to Seiya.
This is just a suggestion I thought was a good idea though!

As someone who loves theatre, Kizana was my favorite rivial back when I was younger and very into yandere simulator. It makes me so happy that you redesigned her and gave her an actual personality! I love this Redesign so much!!✨❤
Ngl I love the designs and all but the names are so fricking amazing. As a writer I can say that (at least to me) the hardest part about creating characters is giving them names and Calli not only makes them have meaning but also sound realistic. And the backstories are all so great, I have no words!

May I just add that besides your beautiful art style and outstanding character creation and writing, I love that you put so much effort when it comes to japanese culture. You genuinely try to pronounce their names correctly and you also implement things about the culture itself into the storyline writing (stigmas etc)

I just binged your revamping Yan Sim series and honestly I'm obsessed with your reimagining with all of the characters and the stories, you really bring them to life by giving them an actual personality and backstory and making them, well, not an eye sore. You're redesigns for all of the characters are gorgeous and I can't wait for more in the future.
Now this is what Yandere dev announced few months ago, that kizana will had different hairstyles everyday. I hope yandere dev would use your designs they are amazing!

Wow, that’s really weird some of the issues you had with the tablet… I had none of those issues except for the slight parallax (the gap between the pen and the screen). I regularly use the express keys on the tablet with Space to navigate the canvas in CSP.
I highly advise you to ask them about that problem, they might even send you a new tablet! That one seems defective. It could also be their new driver. I also got a wireless Bluetooth keyboard with this tablet.
Aww well that's disappointing to hear. My current set up works fine though, and I'm not too bothered :)
When I saw the name "Izumi," I had a small freak out because one of my Kitsune OCs has that name! She has the ability to control water and when I looked up the name, I kept it because it fits with her personality.

I adore this story. I think it would be a very important game, too many people don't truly understand how to interact with others in healthy ways, especially those they're romantically or platonically invested in. It also would be a good way to demonstrate that even though mental struggles are prevalent and important to take seriously, they aren't the end all be all of who a person is, they're another need that has to be addressed and examples of characters who struggle with mental health and have *actually* good coping mechanisms are hard to find. Everything about these concepts is lovely and I adore you and your videos

Bonus note on the name: Hojo sounds phonetically similar to "ojou", which translates literally into "young lady", and is typically used to refer specifically to wealthy, high class young women.
Quick suggestion for the nurse instead of making her the actual nurse you could have her be like a helper of the nurse (cuz a rival being an adult is weird), at least at my school students can help the nurses for "school points" which can help with extra time off or even our permanent record.
Uh the student could want to do the nurse thing specifically cuz they want to be a nurse/doctor when they grow up, so they do it both for the experience and so they can seem extra good for their college applications.
And senpai could go to the nurse a lot cuz he might get injured alot more from fights or from the martial arts club.
Or maybe to check on his health since he was previously in the mental hospital
I was honestly kinda surprised you went with poop or croissants for describing Kizana's hair. My first thoughts were, "Her hair looks really fuckin phallic."
I absolutely adore this version of Kizana. In my opinion, she was probably my favorite (and I use favorite very lightly) designed rivals (besides Osoro but that's my opinion-) in the game. But her character is so boring. Seeing this girl get a redesign makes me so happy because the concept for her is great. I relate to her myself, so playing as Himari and hanging out with her sounds amazing.
I adore the refrence to the dramatis personnae masks with her design (Dramatis personnae are the classic greek theatre masks 🎭 representing comedy and tragedy respectively)

I really love the concept of Izumi effectively living as two different people and drawing inspiration from the comedy and tragedy masks! I go about it a little differently with the way I wrote it out, but there are similarities in that she's a very different person for her family than she is with the people she's comfortable with. My personal solution for her would be to find a way for both her low key side and her regal/confident side to coexist in the same persona. And giving Himari someone who can relate to the stresses of maintaining two different identities is a great move! I'm actually liking the concept of Izumi unquestionably being Himari's best friend by the end of the story/game.

I do much prefer this design over the original design I also noticed how it seems like she's trying to play up to society's standards of women in a way with perfect curled hair, perfect face, bigger boobs, big hips and tiny waist, when she's in her stage persona it seems like she's trying to play the perfect beautiful girl while when she's in her other persona it's like she's trying to hide from the expectations in a way covering up her body and not wearing makeup it would make her more comfortable yet not as loved I do have to say this is my favourite out of all of your designs yet please keep up the good work!
