To keep it simple you could have a low, mid or high fade and that will just tell you how high the shortest point of the fade goes up to. A bald fade (or skin fade) is the LENGTH on the fade. Bald or skin means that it's taken as close to the scalp as possible. You could have a bald fade, 0 fade, 0.5 fade, 1 fade, 2 fade any of the grades. So you could have a low, mid or high (the HEIGHT that you want to take it) bald fade (the LENGTH that it goes down to). Hope that makes sense - Liam

I always thought medium fade was the correct term but every time I ask for medium fade at my barber shop, they’d cut my hair as if I’d just enlisted in the military.

Your low fade was a mid fade, the mid fade was a high fade and your high fade .... well that was just skinning the side all the way lol. You had no room to blend on your “high fade”

Fine or light hair can make a fade appear higher. A #1 on thick dark hair can look the same as say a #2 or #3 on lighter or finer hair. Two things you can do are one drop the shortest part of the fade a little lower, maybe go for a low fade? Or two keep the length slightly longer, so if you were going for a mid skin fade maybe go for a #1 fade instead

The only thing is time bro, nothing can aid to speed up hair growth. I did a high fade once and I absolutely hated it! Had to wait patiently for 3-4 weeks to go back and get a mid fade! Never gonna ask for high fade again! Mid always looks 🔥
The only difference would be in the gap of the blades, zero gapped is about the shortest zero you can go, anything shorter is razor shaved or foil shaved.

It'll all depend on what you mean by grow back? You'll have hair back on the sides within a few days - a week. But on average hair grows at 0.5 inches per month (a number 4). So by 4 weeks you'll likely have around a number 4 in length on the back and sides
lets say I do a high fade that begins with clipper 2, and I want the neck line and sideburns to be a fade. Would this haircut be called a taper fade or high fade?
So how much hair do you shave from the back with each fade, and how many hair lengths can you have before you get to the top of your head? So lets say I have a #2 low fade, then above that I want a 4, then a 6 ect, how many different lengths can I have up the side of my head.
It doesn't quite work like that. I mean you could do but it wouldn't be blended in. The number of lengths though would all depend on how high or low the fade is. But essentially the aim of most cuts is to make the "blend" or the "fade" look as seamless as possible. So skin would be blended to a 0, a 0 to a 0.5 or 0.25, a 0.5 into a 1 and so on. This would make the blend appear seamless and you wouldn't notice huge weight lines in the haircut (where hair isn't blended in). Hope that makes sense

A drop fade is typically when the fade is cut pretty straight until behind the ear and then drops down all the way towards the neckline. A lot of lower fades will naturally be variations on drop fades anyway. Normally the barber will follow the shape of your head to bring out your features and give you the best fade for your head shape and hair, so you shouldn't have to worry too much about asking for drop fades etc.. Get the height and length you want and the barber should be able to do the rest working with what you have. If there any fades you really like then show a picture as that will help massively too, and get your barber to take a picture if you really like your haircut for your future reference!
Today I asked the barber if he could give me a number 0 low fade side and back and he ended up giving me a high fade now I barely have any hair on the back of my head and no volume whatsoever and because I have a flat shape at the back of my head I look like a complete idiot...

Your taper is a VERY high taper, your low fade is a mid fade, your mid fade is just a fade, and anything above is high and tight.
