Difference Between Taper vs. Fade

Guys, It's finally time to know the difference between a taper and fade. Clients at my barbershop will ask me for a taper fade not knowing exactly what a taper fade is. There are several types of haircut fades: Taper Fade, Low Fade, Mid Fade, High Fade, High and Tight, etc.

Lets say i want a high fade with for example clipper guard 2 below the fade. And I also want the taper fade on the neck and sideburns. Would tis haircut be considered as a taper fade or a high fade haircut?

So let's say I get a taper, aside from the sideburns and neck area being faded/blended, what would be the shortest I could have my hair on the sides? Does it have to be the same as the top? I like a 4 or 5 on top of that information helps.

I guess different barbers have different understandings of what Low Medium and High are. Find the one that hooks it up and stick with him/her. I have to say a little prayer right before I go in for a haircut. Roll of the dice. Haha!

No, it's different. A burst fade is more circular and kind of wraps around your ear. A drop fade ends behind your head.

Great question! These are just the most common fades. Then they're different variations of these fades. Yea, I like to taper a #2,#3 or higher fade with a #1 or #1.5 so it so it doesn't have to be a 0
