Sounds good. I was going to get new plugs and timing belt on it anyways, as the last time I had those in was just shy of 100k, but I put a lot of highway miles on it too. Wasn't sure if I should have them put in a new Torque Converter if it was only going to solve the problem temporarily. Thank you!
My 2008 expedition with 240k is doing the same ..I change sparks and coils still doing the same I notice if I take overdrive off is not doing. ..so Is the tranny going bad I will try to change the fluid and filter tranny maybe work
Mine used to do that had a tune up done then it seemed like it wouldn't shift past 3rd gear. Once it gets to about 45mph you can get it up to about 70 mph but it'll go to about 4,000 rpm stressing the engine. Mechanic said it is the transmissin solenoid that needs to be replaced. This solenoid was made by BMW lol.
I had a very similar problem with our 2006 with almost identical mileage of 141k. I quickly found out that it was actually the COP (Coil On Plug) boots arcing against the head in the plug well of the head. The sound was very similar, and ours sounded and felt 100% like the transmission so I was panicking to say the least. Turned out to be the VERY common cop boot problem causing the motor to buck/stutter/kick like that. It only did it in OD at roughly 40 to 50 like you described because that's when its under the most load, being in OD at a low speed like that. Its well worth looking into in my opinion. Good luck bud!
January 18, 2018: Thanks Dusty! That was the first step when the service team looked at it at East Tennessee Ford. They found there were some bad coils and spark plug. They replaced ALL 8 coils and plugs, test drove, and had the same problem. They are now going to be putting in a new torque converter. The transmission specialist is pretty confident that the new converter will solve the problem. However, if it doesn't then the next step is the transmission.
The torque converter is supposed to come in this week. The transmission guy at East Tennessee Ford is pretty confident that will fix the problem. But remember, to get to that point they had to replace the bad coils and spark plugs. It may be worth it to have a diagnostic test run and see if you have any bad coils or plugs.
The good news is that the dealer replaced all the coils and the plugs. But after test driving it still did the same thing, so the next step was to order the torque converter which is supposed to be in this week- Feb 7 I hope. We'll see if that lays this issue to bed. Thanks for the info. Hopefully, that can help someone who stumbles upon this vid.

Mario, after getting new plugs, coils, and torque converter the problem returned 3 months later. I found the solution in Dr. Tranny Shudder stop which you can get at Autozone or other parts store. It worked like magic! And I haven’t had another problem since.
I took my expedition back to the dealer at East Tennessee Ford. So far they have been very good for me and have kept me updated. First thing they did was a diagnostic which involved plugging it into a computer. The computer showed that some spark plugs and some coils were bad. So they replaced all the coils and plugs, test drove again, and the shutter problem was still there. So now the next step is to replace the torque converter. To do that they will drain the transmission, replace the seals, flush/re-fill and all that stuff. After they do that, IF the shutter is still there then next and final step is the transmission. Something to consider, if you take your vehicle in for repair they'll run the diagnostic and will recommend the plugs and coils that are bad be replaced. THEN they will get to the torque converter. But I believe the problem is with the converter. The only issue that I'm a little hesitant about is replacing the torque converter and putting it on a transmission with 148000 miles because it may be possible that the torque converter failing is just a sign/symptom of the transmission going out next. Hope this helps. Keep me posted.

A temporary help, not solution, that I've found is using the cruise control. It doesn't completely alleviate the issue but seems to reduce the problem. Still not sure where the issue is from- the transmission or maybe the torque converter.

Yes. The torque converter was replaced after putting in a new coil pack and replacing all the spark plugs. However, 3 months later the problem returned. Last week I took it to a local dealer and the mechanic said he's 80% sure it's a transmission valve sensor that's bad. Of course, it will cost me $2,073.18 to replace. I picked up my Expedition and will try the shutter stop fluid that several others have used. Otherwise I'll live with it for a while because what if I spend all that money on the valve sensor and 6 months later the transmission goes out. Then I'm stuck with several thousand more dollars and I could've replaced the vehicle for the cost of the repairs.

Eleven year old Expy could need replacement torque converter. The computer programming on the 6 speed tranny has some unique characteristics some dealer service mangers don’t know about. Go to Expedition forum. Lots of good info for owners.
jamexp I agree, a transmission flush might be better if the torque converter doesn't have a drain. Don't use the cleaner/flush additive though. Just flush with correct fluid. If that doesn't fix it, torque converter. If it was mine, I would ask them to change the filter then flush. Not sure a warranty will cover a maintenance item, kind of a gray area. That's while most shops will do the torque converter as it may be a covered component.
6R75&80 transmissions don’t like to be flushed. Fluid is controlled via thermostatic valve and won’t allow flow. These trans are very picky for the correct mercon fluid. 6R75 calls for Mercon SP and 6R80 for LV. Flush machines use bulk fluid, I’d advise against flushing these transmissions. Pan drop and filter replacement will better suffice.
@@RANDOMHOBO01 I just finished picking up my expedition from the shop and the guy said that he had swapped out the filter and put new fluid along with fixing this connector or sensor that was making false contact or something along those lines. He said he checked some valves in the transmission I guess where the fluid and filter goes and he said everything looked fine, not worn out or damaged. I'm taking it back to him tomorrow because it might have something to do with the gas pedal or acceleration. Please help.

You need to hurry up and put lucas transmission additive in your transmission, the fill plug is on the passenger side just behind the catalytic converter, its a 19mm wrench size, and do not change your fluid, when your transmission is starting to slip and not hold gears, the new high detergent oil will wipe out the transmission, just add your lucas additive, which you can get at all of the automotive parts stores such as O'Reilly, it about $13 dollars, but it WILL fix your transmission issue. 😎👍

As of right now the shutter has recently returned. It did great after they put in a new torque converter but that only lasted about 4 months. So... a fella today told me to get something called Shutter Stop. I’m gonna try it and see what happens. Be glad to let you know.
Sounds good. I was going to get new plugs and timing belt on it anyways, as the last time I had those in was just shy of 100k, but I put a lot of highway miles on it too. Wasn't sure if I should have them put in a new Torque Converter if it was only going to solve the problem temporarily. Thank you!
My confidence in the OEM converter is pretty low. Perhaps worth doing if you can find a good after market one
Okay, thank you so much! I will look into it this coming week.
So did replacing the torque converter fix the problem???

i got an 07 el xlt exp. and it does that it has 140000 miles on it i took it to dealer where i got it the mechanic said it could be tires shaking.but only at this mph and its when i barley rest my foot on the gas it does that
Mario, after getting new plugs, coils, and torque converter the problem returned 3 months later. I found the solution in Dr. Tranny Shudder stop which you can get at Autozone or other parts store. It worked like magic! And I haven’t had another problem since.
Any updates on your tranny problem? Having the same issue in an ‘06...

Johnson Cannon so what ended up happening?
A temporary help, not solution, that I've found is using the cruise control. It doesn't completely alleviate the issue but seems to reduce the problem. Still not sure where the issue is from- the transmission or maybe the torque converter.
I’m surprised your engine light isn’t coming on. I have own a total of 4 Ford Expeditions in about 22 years. I pretty much have a feel for what things are occurring with Expeditions. I see that’s it’s been a couple of years since you posted this. Did you find out what was the problem?
@@Bigbluelion7 The dealer replaced the coils and plugs free of charge but the main culprit was the torque converter. They replaced that too and it worked for about 3 months. I got turned on to Dr. Tranny Shudder Fixx from a fella that had same problem in his F150. I just do that simple treatment 1 or 2 times a year and drives great. Going on 175,000 miles now.
I’m looking at a 07 with 236,000 miles is that an ok buy please assist
chris lee given the age and high miles I’d be a little hesitant. It would be good if you could find out if plugs coils and torque converter or other transmission items have been repaired or replaced. If not I’d look around for another deal.
Mixing fluids and putting the wrong fluid in it will do that. Thas Wht I'm going threw now right as we speak! It's crazy 2021 22 sunday
I have 07 it did the same thing and what I found was was the plugs or coils, maybe mind, was at 40to50 MPH.o changing those plugs are so much fun.. I would definitely check the coils and plugs it was doing the same thing 3 months later and now smooth as can be and I can go up to 80 miles an hour with no problems no hesitation no shuttering. Hope this help which probably your problem..
The dealer replaced all plugs and coils. Still had the shuttering problem so they ended up putting a new torque converter in. After 4 months the problem returned and I had not even gone 5000 miles. Since the new part is under 24 mo warranty it's going to a local Ford dealer this Wednesday 8/29/18.
@@ProducedbyGuardian95 yeah it was very much the same ,but be for I did try change ing,the plugs o that was by no means easy, and a few things to see before taking the plugs out some things work, like talking the vtc, disconnecting them and take it for a ride.it was little bit better but it was still there. But that was because plugs and low oil pressure.now going to update soon oil pump, p Miller 360 which adds 20 percent more flow.
@@ProducedbyGuardian95 hey, did they fix the truck
@@ProducedbyGuardian95I am having the exact same problem as you sir but I just picked up my vehicle where the mechanic had swapped out transmission fluid along with the filter. He said something similar to what you mentioned about a sensor making false contact or not connecting right. He said he just plugged it back in or corrected it so it could be properly connected.
He said he test drove it and that it was fine but when I drove it on the freeway it was still shaking and making noise like your vehicle. It wasn't as bad as before but the problem is still there. I have also done the spark plugs and coils recently and I get no check engine lights. Please help with whatever knowledge you have. Btw how much was that torque converter because I'm hoping it wont be too expensive in case I need to change it.
Spark plugs and coil packs will sputter during acceleration and if you jump on it hard enough it should throw a p300’s code.
Replaced plugged and coil packs and mine does the same. I believe it’s torque converter related
My 07 with 94k miles on it shakes so bad around the same speeds
JORGE VALENCIA I talked to someone from South Carolina having the same problem. After having the coils, spark plugs, and torque converter replaced at the Ford dealer the problem came back within three months. I found some Dr. Tranny Shudder Fix by Lube Guard. I put that in my transmission and haven’t had a problem since. So before you spend hundreds or a thousand dollars try the shudder fix. Any auto store should carry it for about $8-10. Good luck to you. And thanks for watching.
I’m having same problem
It could be a number of things but I'd recommend before you put a lot of money into troubleshooting and such, please get some Dr. Tranny Instant Shudder Fix. www.amazon.com/Lubegard-19610-Tranny-Instant-Shudder/dp/B0002JMLQU
Johnson Cannon I changed the diary plugs myself no problem. It feels better. I’m going to change the trans fluid next and gear oil
Mine will screech like crazy if I give it good gas n it has to up shift a gear. Such a loud screech I've literally never heard in any car ever. Then when it does shift up or down it clanks and jumps something fierce.
Its transmition torque problem.
He test drove it and said it was fine but when I took it on the freeway it was still shaking and making noise like the gentleman on the video. It wasn't as bad as before but it's still acting up.
He said he checked some valves in the transmission I guess where the fluid and filter goes and he said everything looked fine, not worn out or damaged. I'm taking it back to him tomorrow because it might have something to do with the gas pedal or acceleration. Please help.
Brofessor, this is Johnson. Sorry to hear about the trouble with your Expedition. The most simple and effective solution has been going to Autozone or someplace like that and picking up some Dr. Tranny Shudder Stop. It’s a little tube and it pours right into the transmission. This is what I did about 6 momths AFTER the dealer replaced spark plugs, coil pack, and torque converter. The tube only cost about $8 and saved me over $1,800!
@@OnceUponAPipe thanks for your response sir, I first had a friend add some Lucas stop slip additive to the transmission but that didnt help at all. I just picked it up yesterday from a transmission mechanic whom had changed out the transmission fluid and filter along with reconnecting or adjusting some sensor that wasn't properly working.
That adjustment he made significantly helped the problem but didnt totally fix it. Before my vehicle would shake and make those weird noises exactly like the video between 30mph and 60mph. Now it only does it between 40mph and 55mph. So it helped but didnt completely fix the problem.
I've already changed all spark plugs coils and have no check engine lights and from the research I've been doing I'm starting to think that it might be the torque converter. Thanks once again for your help sir and if anybody else can help I would greatly appreciate it.
highly likely its the torque converter
It was! Ended up using Dr. Tranny Shudder Stop to treat it.
😎
So did the torque converter fix the problem?
I'm still wating :-( When I last spoke to the dealer the service mgr said they couldn't get any torque converters in. They're on emergency back order. I'll keep you guys updated as soon as I know something.
Just spoke to the dealer today. They said it doesn't look like the torque connverter will be in until sometime in March. :-(

I have a Ford expedition 2005 it does the same thing
Before you spend hundreds of dollars, please try Dr. Tranny Lube Gard Shudder Stop. You can pick it up at any auto store. Add it to your transmission and drive for a few days. If that doesn't help, then go get it checked out at mechanic shop. Best of luck to you.
Dude!!! Mine has the same problem
Universal joint on the drive shaft
nope. torque converter
I was gonan say thats spark plugs and coils
It's a bad torque converter
Lucky Luke, the plugs, coils, and torque converter were replaced. It did well for three months then problem return. I fixed it with Dr. Tranny Shudder Stop. Cost me $8.99 and I haven't had a single problem since. :-) Thanks for checking out the video.
