Facts
The actress who plays Martha, you also saw her in season 2. She was at Torchwood and was taken over by the Cyberman in the "Army of Ghosts" episode. She plays her own cousin. Their way of explaining her coming back on the show.

I met Freema Agyeman in 2016. She is so incredibly nice and engaging. You're going to like her a lot!
You should see Freema today, still smoking at 45 😍 She's about to star alongside Tom Holland in a West End production of Romeo & Juliet! Martha is a fantastic companion & will always have a special place in my heart

RTD regularly likes her posts on Instagram which can also be used to clarify just how fine she is aging too 🤯

I really like Martha as a companion, her episodes are very good. According to David Tennant, the writer/showrunner Russell T. Davis put in the line "a Judoon platoon on the moon" as a challenge/troll for David. The "oo" sound is pronounced quite differently in David's own native Scottish accent. He does the doctor with a Estuary (southeast English including London) accent.
Martha Jones was the first black companion in entire shows history which makes her character even more special

@@HuntingViolets Yep. It was time. In 2007, Obama-mania was on the rise and so...I remember Freema being so publicly happy at the premiere! I also remember her gently explaining to the "Blue Peter" kids that she was the new companion and that everything would be okay.

Martha is my all time favourite companion imo shes one of the most capable and intelligent companions and just a joy to watch
I loved Martha from day one, and to this day she's still my fav companion. I still have a huge mega crush on her in other shows she's done since. For Who she was the most useful, resourceful, helpful, intelligent companion in new Who.

You mentioned the music & it will get better & better! Every season the BBC give Murray Gold more & more time (days) with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales to record for Doctor Who.
Little things like score, and soundtrack go a really long way. I'm loving the upgrade.
@@Syntell 100%! Every season's soundtrack is available via Silvascreen Records but I'm sure you know that by now. "Martha's Theme" is a lovely companion piece by Murray Gold 🥰
Murray Gold is a genius.I watched an interview with him. He had very little time to compose and record the music and RTD basically just sent him the episodes and let him do whatever he wanted. He had to compose scores and scores of scores week after week. Amazing.

I'm not the biggest fan of Murray Gold I think he did great music the first few seasons but after awhile he was really starting to get stale in my opinion.

Hey, of course Martha is attracted to the Doctor. The role that really broke the big time for David Tennant was when he played Casanova. TV Series in 2005, created by none other than Russell T Davies, with Music from Murray Gold (also starring Peter 'O' Toole)
"Cassanova" was amazing!!!! If what I read is correct, Eccleston left "Doctor Who" while Davies was filming "Cassanova" and said, "Hey....!"

The wild thing is that Martha's first appearance is in a Doctor Who novel, Made of Steel (featuring the Cybermen), which came out a week before this episode aired.

I have that, I read that, Don't remember it at all, but it's over on the shelf if I want to remind myself. I'm so far behind on Doctor WHO reading though, I have like 4 shelves to go, but I learned from Virgin NAs to never let them slip out of print before you buy!
Season 3 is criminally underrated! It has one of the very best episodes of the series (blink) and an awesome two parter (the family of blood). Can't wait for yall to react to this season 😃
Roy Marsden, who plays Mr Stoker, is one of those "That Guy" actors on British TV, having made a long career playing Detective Superintendents, doctors, professors, military men, a whole assortment of slightly arrogant martinet authority figures.
I LOVE MARTHA! She's not only smart but also really brave! You'll see :)

I love Marta, she is one of the most beloved companions in all of Doctor Who, for myself and for many, many fans. She got a lot of hate from Rose stans, but in time and some, years many of them came around. She is just so capable, well meaning, compassionate and loveable! You're in for a great journey and adventure with Marta and the Doctor in time and space!

Good catch spotting Gugu, most people don't seem to recognize her. She's an amazing actress, so it's great she gets to be a part of the Whoniverse. Freema is amazing too, great actress with some exciting storylines coming up.
The music to this show is amazing...! So good they held concerts with it in the albert hall and other places, hosted by some of the companions with a giant screen showing clips whilst the orchestra plays...and actors dressed as monsters walking around the audience... u can find some of them on youtube.... they are recommended.... check them out! Maybe react to them...

I forgot Martha's sister was in Loki, glad she's still getting paid. She's good. Freema Agyeman playing Martha is a really good actress, she was in another series called Sense8 that I really liked. She needs to be a star, she's got the chops and the looks, and yes, I can hear the Jodeci too! 🤣
Killer Klownz from Outer Space! ❤ that movie! I worked for the Chiodo Bros., who made it -- although I worked for them a few years after the movie came out. They're a great family of 3 brothers with amazing special effects chops. I don't think they've done anything on Doctor Who, as they're Yanks, but they've been quite prolific!

This season has to be one my favourites of all of Doctor Who - the character arc of Martha is brilliant (imo a step up from Rose), great character returns (no spoilers 😁) and the lore and world building is wonderful. The soundtrack really completes this season (episode 3 and the last 3 episodes of this season is phenomenal). Can’t wait for you watch the rest of the season ❤🙌🏽
Yay, yes, I knew you'd be excited for Martha! She is my favorite companion, and this is probably my favorite season, there are some truly epic stories in store for you guys! It's funny, because Martha wasn't my favorite when I was watching the seasons as they aired, as at the time I was upset about Rose being gone and wasn't ready for the change (especially with the way season 2 ended). But as I get older and maybe wiser, I have found my perspective shift and Martha has risen in the ranks to the top. The qualities she displays in this episode - compassion, empathy, quick-thinking, smart, brave - hold true in her upcoming adventures. Also, it really doesn't hurt that she is absolutely gorgeous 😍 Man, so excited for this season for you guys, it's going to be epic!

@@Syntell Martha deserves it. She's my favorite. It's been excruciating waiting for this episode, especially after her previous appearance as another character made such an impression. (Martha notes her cousin died at Canary Wharf in this episode.) I love love love Martha and am always happy to see reactors who appreciate her. This was a great introduction for her, I think. And whom is the Doctor kidding? He could have done that genetic transfer other ways and without tenderly holding her face in his hands.

By the way, I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but the reason the Tardis lurches around like that sometime, is because it is supposed to be piloted by 6 people. That is also why The Doctor had to get creative with the some of the controls.
That's a bit of NuWho revisionism (see also "taking the brakes off"). Not all TARDISes have hexagonal consoles, and historically they've been flown by one pilot with no problems whatsoever.

I loved Martha's run with the Doctor
Martha is a great companion. Perhaps a bit underrated when she first appeared because she came after Rose, who was very popular. Series 3 and 4 are a definite high point for Doctor Who. Some really great episodes and no dodgy monsters. Also a few future Oscar nominees guest starring.

There is another "bad wolf" type easter egg clue trail woven throughout the episodes of this season if you pay close enough attention. I didn't catch it until the finale reveal.
Was also an easter egg in the previous episode when the tanks fire their cannons..

This is a great season starter and a great introduction for an under-rated companion.
I've heard that the reshoots, overtime, etc for Series 1 were paid for out of the budget for Series 2, which is why that season looks kind of cheap, and why this season looks better, even though the starting budget per episode was about the same. (Series 2 and 3 were commissioned together.)
Season 3 has some of the best episodes. Gridlock and Human Nature all the way to the finale are fantastic.
For me, this season is the highpoint in the show.... a few episodes are just "mid" but there is a run of episodes coming that is EXCEPTIONAL !!! just wait.... youll know when they start ...
