loved Colton’s point that the biggest villain in the multiverse saga would also be the biggest hero based on consequences. it has a jungian idea to it. this pleases me.
I really appreciate Ryan’s comic knowledge on the subject because he basically reaffirms many of my own concerns about introducing the Stark variant of Doom before Victor Von Doom. I think that it’s a cheap way to get audiences engaged. Doom is one of the most important characters in the F4 and greater Marvel universe, he should be prioritized as they’re attempting to build out the next phase, especially now that they’re pivoting from Kang. He’s such a rich and complex character and they have a great opportunity to cast someone meaningful and skilled as opposed to just recycling actors for fan service.
Completely agree with you. It feels like a “Hail Mary”, lazy move on behalf of Marvel. Doom is such a fabulous and important Marvel villain. Maybe they’ll prove me wrong and I’ll end up liking it, but for now I’m completely disappointed and unimpressed by this decision.
Cheap way to not do a background story ? Sure but perhaps a easier way to get people connected to a character. I don’t believe Robert is going to be the Victor but just a variant to introduce Doom. Only makes sense to introduce a huge villain by showing two perspectives but different ambitions.
Totally agree. Cast a younger actor. Heck, even Paul Bettany could do it. Or.... Timothee Chalomet? Bird-face Dr. Doom? Oscar Isaac could do it. Diego Garcia. There's so many options, RDJ smacks of desperation and a lack of imagination. Deadpool to RDJ: "Welcome back to the MCU. You're rejoining at kind of a low point..."
Honestly a fair critisism, cause I'll admit I would like a more "accurate" regional voice accent for Doom (if you want a REALLY good example of that, go watch B-Mask's video on his Fantastic Four retrospective, has imo the best "regionally accurate" Doom voice I've ever heard) and I'm not familiar enough with RDJ's filmography to know if he can do it, I know he can at least do British thanks to me watching the first Sherlock Holmes movie he was in. Although personally considering the situation with the MCU in relation to the fanbase and the fact they've addressed it, this feels more like a case of "look, we know we messed up, so to make up for that, we're bringing back stuff we know y'all like as a treat to hopefully act enough as an apology" so I'm not too bothered by it.
Love how Colton always checks his headphones when Ryan says he's stuck in the tv but never noticed as if he stops hearing what Ryan was saying till it's done. That's dedication and commitment!
I wouldn’t give any credit to Marvel if they were to tie that back in. That line was always meant for that scene from that movie, not a foreshadowing for an already mapped out “where do you see yourself 5 years from now” plan to bring RDJ back to play some variant of Stark who turned into Dr. Doom.
@@PawzBrownMTG it'll probably revolve around tony stark's comment he always repeated in mcu and each episode of what if?, that he appeared in. He kept saying, 'I see a suit of armor around the world.' Rdj dr doom, is taking over the world, to protect it from itself. By any means necessary.
Doctor Doom RARELY takes off his mask because his face looks like a pizza so for all we know Marvel simply cast RDJ for his acting and nothing else so I don't get why people are freaking out
@@marcusstewart4141 Nah Colton tripping, he trying to hard to accept it. Ryan, a hardcore doctor doom fan, isn’t gonna be to fond of rdj right away. Especially when he made such an impact as iron man
This has been one of the best conversations that you guys have ever had. I love watching you guys discuss everything - but this one was one of the bests.
Don't hate me...but as much as i like downey's ironman being the base standard for any iron characters who come afterwards and without knowing how he'll do as doom... I'd rather have a fresh face being cast as doom...if nothing then just for the sake of variety 😅
Same, I still think Cillian Murphy is a better choice, using RDJ is just laziness and also shows how scared they are that they would do this. Also it's gonna be confusing for his friends and family: imagine Rhodey's, Pepper's, Peter's, Happy's and little Morgan's face seeing her dad/husband/best friend as a villain, did marvel even think this all the way through?
Absolutely if you’re gonna use Robert Downey, Jr. than you need to figure out a way to bring Iron Man back. I’m not sure why you would bring him back as a different character. We need fresh new faces for these new people because I’m gonna have a hard time seeing Tony Starks face as a villain.
you're right. bringing RDJ back, at SDCC, has brought back the fans, the debate, the awe, and of course, the EXPECTATION! Marvel Studio is coming back with a Vengeance. Living during the time of Movies, based on the Comic books, is a one of the Best era in the movie industry.
It's important to remember - They introduced him as "Victor Von Doom." So, even if he is a Tony Stark variant, there's no reason not to believe he's Latvarian royalty, etc., all the things that Dr. Doom is. Maybe he was stolen from the cradle, maybe the Avengers recognise him, whatever - He's Victor Von Doom.
Exactly. I think they are going to slightly reimagine Doom's origin story. He is a loose distant variant of Tony Stark. Or perhaps estranged lookalike cousin in another universe. With majority of his own classic backstory kept intact, but a little bit of Tony's individual lore is also thrown into the mix to create the ultimate combo. And they are clearly doing this fr the star power. Bcoz this would require some crazy creative writing. And there has to be some connection with Tony Stark.
Just because they introduced him as Victor Von Doom, that means nothing really. They've also done plenty of misdirection over the years. And there is an alternate universe version of Tony Stark who became Dr. Doom in the comics. I believe that's the road they'll take, it just makes too much sense on multiple levels.
I think your concern is that the prestige that Doom has in the comics will not be the same if he is played by RDJ. Regardless if he is an Iron Man variant or not, he will now be overshadowed. He will just be known as an evil Iron Man, while in the comics he is one of the biggest and most significant standalone villain in Marvel. Love the RDJ casting, but I believe this was your concern.
What Ryan said "Harrison Ford said he saw all these other actors in the MCU and he wanted some of that fun too" What I heard "Harrison Ford said he saw all these other actors in the MCU and he wanted some of that sweet sweet Disney money too"
I'm sure Ford already has more money than he could possibly spend for the rest of his life. Guys this rich aren't going to do something just for the money.
Thank you! I was seeing so many scraps of SDCC info floating around and decided, "I don't have the energy to chase all of this down. I'm just gonna wait for ScreenCrush to wrap it all up for me."
dude 26:08 a double blink edit? did any of you eagle eyed easter eggs hunters catch that subtle move?? maybe foreshadowing a double video release or adding another goblin to the right?
Colton makes a good point about Tony Stark being a variant because it's relatable to Marvel's What if... series and the Loki series. Toying with different time lines. What if Tony Stark did become Dr. Doom and he presumed to has a suit of armour around the world. That would be an interesting storyline.
A bigger announcement would have been RDJ getting on stage and saying “I’m back!….and I’m back to kick the X-Men’s asses!” Hugh Jackman gets on stage and Avengers Vs X-Men title card comes on screen Crowd would’ve erupted
@@mon_nobiBecause there is no build for X-Men vs avengers. Most of the audience don't know much about x-men except Wolverine. There should be some build up like civil war. This is eventually going to happen in the next phases.
@@This_is_cimema_world09 lol there's a lot more build up set for avengers vs X-men than randomly shoehorning a Victor con Doom! are you serious?? So many Fox S Men cameos in the MCU lately and with the Marvels post credit scene it seemed that was the logical conclusion after the decision to pivot away from Kang, but instead they overcorrected by a ton and change the title to Doomsday and change the villain to a variant doom played by RDJ, that's terribly reactive and much less set up than what we have already been given.
I think part of the choice to pick tony is to have doctor doom having massive gravitas and impact on his reveal. To introduce doctor doom he'd have to have a bit of time of screentime, exposition and storytelling to bring him up to speed, and maybe make the audience care even MORE about him than other villians. By using a tony stark varient (robert downy jr) as doom, it IMMEDIATELY creates massive connections in the viewers heads, immediately creates a backstory, but also mystery all in one without having to do much legwork and allows the rest of the movie to establish this new one more effectively. We see how many cameos, and buildup Kang needed in order to be introduced as a bigger threat within the entire MCU and that still didnt pan out too well. I think this was a reaction to having to pivot so quickly to a new big bad, and edging their bets to do it in a way that doesnt need to them start dropping 100 breadcrumbs overtime for minimal return.
This has got to be my *favourite* Screencrush video. Just two honest, authentic Marvel fans having a decent and mature conversation on something they are passionate about. Respectfully agreeing to disagree. It is so rare these days. Much respect to Colton, but I'm with Ryan on this one. He has perfectly articulated my apprehension, tempered hope (?) for the future of the MCU, and grief over the loss of a non-Stark variant of Doom.
Exactly, because everyone is just going to be seeing "Tony," imagine how Rhodey, Pepper, Peter and little Morgan is going to feel, seeing her dad as a bad guy.
Only the super nerds who are OCD on the story being adapted exactly as the comic care if its the dr doom . The rest of us just want a real Doctor Von Doom at some other point in the MCU. I'd rather this variant be the 2 movie quick villain and the real Doctor Von Doom to be in more movies with the fantastic 4 later on.
@@happybuttersblast8334Doing this just to replace him later is just screwing over the next guy. Movie nerds always say this about comic nerds and we’re always trying to tell you how good these stories could be if they just did them. We got two bad Dooms. They always think the character needs to add something and then break him.
He doesn’t have to be a Stark variant. Chris Evans is Steve Rogers, and he is Johnny Storm. Josh Brolin is Cable and Thanos. Among others. RDJ can just be Victor Von Doom.
Except that Johnny Storm wasn't in the MCU (well, except for in the newest Deadpool movie). And Cable also wasn't originally part of the MCU. Having RDJ play two of the biggest characters in the MCU is a difference from what has come before.
I am hoping that this is the case. If the audience can suspend their disbelief that superheroes exist, they can surely suspend their disbelief that RDJ can also be Victor von Doom without having to be a clone of Tony.
@@greywolf7577no lol it’s not. They’ve already incorporated actors playing multiple roles within the MCU itself. Like Merhersh Ali being in luke cage and now being blade. Or Peter quils mom, the spiderman looking diff, etc. It’s the multiverse, they can do whatever they want lol
But you kind of forgot that Chris Evan's Johnny Storm ISNT part of MCU. (Also that Josh's Cable isn't part of the MCU unlike with Thanos). So RDJ being Doctor Doom is very different
Your videos are great, always watch them. My response to RDJ being revealed as Doom was equal parts excitement and confusion, so it was good to see Ryan and Colton discuss from these perspectives - good job everyone.
RDJ's Doom is in the same universe as the FF, their world is destroyed by Galactus, leading Doom to 616. While in the 616, the Victor version of Doom becomes aware of the Tony Stark version of Doom and creates Battle World, leading to Secret Wars. Makes for a fairly easy swap of actors while keeping the character in play.
Iron man 2. Back when the Arc reactor was being invented, Venko and Howard Stark took different paths. Venko became "Stark" and Stark became "Venko" So Instead of becoming Whiplash, Tony Stark became Dr. Doom. That is the difference in this universe.
I honestly think when Dr Doom is facing off against the avengers and his mask comes off to reveal Tony's face underneath THAT is gonna be a heart wrenching moment for everyone, especially if it's Spidey who sees him. I am also feeling a bit weird about this casting but at the same time I think Marvel do need to play it safe after their recent failures. So RDJ has the star power to reignite interest again
@@yanceysemein1998 I'm confused by your comment, the avengers WILL know who Tony Stark is, that's not a fourth wall break, it would only be breaking the fourth wall if they knew who RDJ is
@@achannell362 I dunno I kinda hope they go with the version of Doom where he's so vain that one scratch on his face is enough to make him wear a mask to hide it. That would be in keeping with some of the vanity we've seen in Tony's character before so I can see that translating to Victor too
dude 26:08 a double blink edit? did any of you eagle eyed easter eggs hunters catch that subtle move?? maybe foreshadowing a double video release or adding another goblin to the right?
Something to note: Chris Evans Human Torch is not wearing his film’s suit. He is wearing one similar to John Krasinsky’s Reed Richards suit. We will most definitely see them teamed up potentially the whole FF from that universe in Secret Wars.
Yeah, I'm with you Ryan. Hard to see the positives, feels like a PR move more than anything else. I know how much you love this character, and I really hope they do him justice for you, but definitely understand why you're so nervous. It feels shoe-horned and desperate. Also feels clunky with the loss of the Kang 'saga', that piece is just sorta floating there. And what made Kang so interesting was just the newness of this villain, with his unending power, and now he's vanished. I really wish they would have just recast Kang and cleaned it all up and kept going with fleshing out the story. I'll never know what happened, which is kind of a bummer. Hopefully you'll do a video later suggesting how it ties in to all the phase 4 and 5 stuff.
RDJ could be covered with a mask for most of those movies as Doom, which would take away from the visual of seeing RDJ and associating him with Stark... That'll solve that problem. Or like you mentioned, he could have a backstory of not being privileged and become the Infamous Iron Man. Similarly to how Vanko (Whiplash) grew up in Iron Man 2.
I bet Doom will be following the Fantastic Four into the MCU sacred timeline, and will be Victor Von Doom in their reality where there is no existence on Stark. But when he arrives in MCU he will see that someone who looks him was highly praised for his actions and will use that as leverage to dominate the sacred timeline. Will definitely be interesting as these next few years come and go…. HYPED !!!
I think it says a lot about how you guys are really feeling deep down, that this conversation moved quickly from "How are they going to work in Dr. Doom as portrayed by RDJ" to "here's what I think they are going to have to do for the saga AFTER the multiverse saga" and stayed there. These are complex, confusing times for nerd-dom.
They’re not being honest with us, no one is. This saga is ruined by marvel, they want to be done with the multiverse quick and restart. I don’t understand why marvel doesn’t just hire a bunch of comic nerds as writers and have them work together on the scripts.
There's definitely another actor who plays Victor Von Doom, in an alternate universe they were roommates and some experiment made victor switch bodies with tony stark
I mean, as scant as information is at this point, one of few things that the Russos outright said in the announcement was that they were introducing "Victor von Doom." They didn't just say "Dr. Doom" if you were paying attention. I'm at a loss how you can argue confidently today that there is "zero chance" of him NOT being a Tony Stark variant. Much less how you can predict that Peter Parker and the other characters are bound to see this Dr. Doom running around all of the time with no mask on.
Sometimes Colton should stay inside the little TV with his takes, i think RDJ is an amazing actor who can absolutely do the role, my problem is… he IS Ironman, it kind of overshadowing the role if he is Doom. Like Ryan Doom is my favorite villain, I wanted to see someone play him similar to Julian McMahon, would have loved it to be Ceelian Murphy if RDJ isnt just a variant of Tony Stark
This doom will be from the same universe as the F4, and will be the villain of the next too avengers movies. Then they’ll def recast him w/ the reboot after secret wars, where we can get an actual Doom with enough build up like he deserves.
Here’s some info that may give clues to this version of Dr Doom. The video game Fortnite had a timeline leak months ago that showed the Season 6 thumbnail. The picture showed Dr Doom, which is a little confusing because Dr Doom was in a prior Season from a couple years ago. The problem is he was a Battle Pass skin. Once a character comes out as a battle pass skin, they cannot be obtained again UNLESS the skin is different. Now that’s fine because this just happened with Wolverine and Deadpool (Because the movie just came out). So when we saw that Dr Doom was featured in the leaked image, it brought up a question, was he going to be in a new movie? Now that we know RDJ is playing Dr Doom, it pretty much confirms that Fortnite had inside info. This season featuring Dr Doom comes out soon and must be tied to the hype around this reveal. Now people are wondering if Dr Doom will be a different version of Tony Stark in another timeline and there may possibly be some clues in Fortnite that lead us to believe this is the case. Here is why; Back years ago when the Marvel season of Fortnite was about to be released, there were large red beacons appearing across the map. They were hinting at the upcoming Marvel season and left as clues. These beacons had “STARK INDUSTRIES” labels on the base. The season came out and it was in fact Marvel themed and Stark industries was a Poi on the map. The story was based around Tony stark and his tech. -Fast forward to now, clues are starting to appear on the current Fortnite map. We know that is supposed to be a Marvel theme based on the leaked image of Dr Doom, so it was an easy spot when the same beacons are appearing around the map. However, these beacons are much smaller despite looking the same. Now that’s not a big deal until you look closer….. these beacons DO NOT SAY “STARK INDUSTRIES”! It’s the same model beacon but has been changed on purpose! This might confirm that Dr Doom is an alternate version of Tony Stark. Same tech, different path
Don't forget Marvel is coming from a very difficult moment, it's a very risky but amazing decision. I wouldn't be that harsh on them, yhis could be just a John Krasinski/Red Richards moment, give the fans something awesome and earn some time to build properly a Dr. Doom, they don't even have a proper FF yet!! I can see a Tony Stark coming from Age of Ultron losing everything and becoming the "suit of armor around the world”, iron Legion becoming doombots, he is the only one knows about time traveling through quantum world, armor, ego, motives... he has it all.... and I can see someone in the shadows learning all of that and take it for it's own legacy, the real dr. doom...
I liked Majors Kang and wanted to see how they did it. How are they gonna change everything they set up with Kang? Did Loki and the TVA take care of him? Are u just gonna write Kang out in a way that messes up the story and what they set up with Kang? I'm a little worried that it won't make sense.
@@1ajgtwmLoki ending wasn’t that good to me now Loki can’t return to the universe 1. He died in endgame 2. If he return no one would trust him he left as a villain (Loki opening) how would he return the hero have to assume he’s evil and how does he even explain what happened without kang
@1ajgtwm Ok, i figured by Loki taking that seat, and the TVA watching Kangs changed everything, but Marvel hadn't said that was the case, so i wasn't 100% percent sure. But maybe he will still show up in one way or another, but just not be the main villian anymore.
@seanisabel I took it as a glorified band aid. Instead of absolute control over events Loki is just watching things playout and hoping his friends can fix it
4:18 Many people forget or don’t know this, but the original Thunderbolts team appeared right after the Avengers and FF sacrificed themselves to defeat Onslaught. After establishing themselves as a team of heroes to the public, they were then given the Baxter Building⁄Four Freedom Plaza as their HQ. So having the MCU version use Avengers Tower as their HQ is just simply an adaptation of the original comic book run.
My Theory: He switched bodies with Stark to gain access to his resources and power. He was jealous of Tony and not Richards. In this universe the only difference is his college roommate was not Richards. It was Stark. It is a small difference that ends up being huge. That's a newer comic book but it ends up being so cool. Tony Stark is switched into Doom's body but with his memories wiped. He becomes a poor Latvian boy, but still has his genius intellect. He's still Stark. They end up fighting each other in switched bodies, but what if Doom won that fight, and went to the sacred timeline? Maybe that is the direction for it, but who knows. I think this would be a great plot device for the MCU especially if Dr Doom is still out there with Tony inside his body.
@@joshuacollins9316 tell me who the other characters are? Chris Evans? Josh Brolin? Mahershala Ali? Michael B Jordan? The movies/shows they were in are either not connected to the MCU as we know it, they were Fox characters, or barely even cannon/relevant like Cottonmouth. That is not the same as the biggest star of the franchise who has barely even died. They have to explain it. It can’t just be a guy that looks like Tony, but not a variant in some capacity. Which either way, takes away from the character of Doom. That’s just a fact.
Brother the man’s name Robert Downey jr not Tony stark lmfao Robert Downey jr is playing victor von doom it’s not tony stark is playing victor Von doom . Yall r so stuck in the meta and multi verse thing lmfaoooo
I like how he mentioned majors case as assault when the actual charge is UNINTENTIONAL assault misdemeanor I hope unintentional doesn’t fly over ppl head but it will
I do wonder if he had gotten into a fight with a man or if a female character had gotten into a fight with someone, whether they would have lost their jobs or not.
Also could he just be playing Doom? A villain doesn’t have to carry so much of a film as say playing the title character? Maybe he’s Doom. That’s it. Nuff said. No variant. He’s Doom. But doesn’t have to do so much work. Gets to play in the MCU sandbox and of course cash that monster check.
What I think is Robert Downey junior will play a version of doctor doom alongside someone who plays the doctor doom that will be the official doom afterwards. So Downie will just play one of the variants of doom, which will be the most important one for a single movie. The reveal of Downie is also part of the mystery. There were many Dooms on stage and Downie was only one of them... Finally I think what you wanted two wanted to say in your marital spat you had there is; are victor.von Dooms parents and Tony Starks parents the same people now? ,Cause you know evolution and stuff... We take after our parents... Or can anyone be born looking like anyone else just cause?....
Really can't wait to see What RDJ can bring to Doctor doom I know the reaction has been mixed but, we cant fairly judge until we see the final product.
I don’t get why everyone thinks just because it’s RDJ he has to in some way be Tony Stark, it’s the multiverse there’s probably a universe where Captain America looks like Ryan Reynolds that doesn’t mean he’s somehow Wade Wilson and his life was just different.
Part of me wishes that they would have revealed this IN the movie itself. And I felt the same about Spider-Man in Civil War - it should have been a surprise. Obviously they did it this way to sell tickets, but when they do that they miss out on a huge "I am your father" type moment.
Everyone would know based on the fact that they didn't reveal who would be playing Doom and that this has been rumored. There would be no other reason to hide the casting.
i think what made the MCU great was that we could get to know characters without comics if you weren't a hardcore fan, but with multiverse everything will fall apart as these characters will not get enough depth or change before us as the viewers will get to be attached to them
Idk if he's talking himself into liking it or if he just generally likes it or is just haplessly optimistic, which is just fine if that's his true opinion (idk why he felt the need to default to playing devils advocate in favor of the choice rather than just engaging with the questions of the logic), but kinda feels like shilling cuz it's soo bizarre
Exactly, I still think Cillian Murphy is a better choice, using RDJ is just laziness and also shows how scared they are that they would do this. Also it's gonna be confusing for his friends and family: imagine Rhodey's, Pepper's, Peter's, Happy's and little Morgan's face seeing her dad/husband/best friend as a villain, did marvel even think this all the way through?
Marvel is trolling. Tony Stark variant makes an iron man armor variant. Victor Von Doom kills Tony and takes the suit. RDJ is in the movie for 5 mins. Like Drew Barrymore in Scream.
He could be a Tony variant that became evil, which would be really cool, and then after this version of Doom is done you could have a different Dr. Doom with the proper origin
RDJ works on a few levels; 1. Nostalgia, 2. Talented actor/known actor, 3. Allows the audience to see a god emperor Doom while leaving flexibility to introduce a proper Doom in the 616.
Here's what you're not seeing : It's gonna be confusing for his friends and family: imagine Rhodey's, Pepper's, Peter's, Happy's and little Morgan's face seeing her dad/husband/best friend as a villain, did marvel even think this all the way through?
It’s paying off the Loki S1E1, TEMPORAL AURA scan scene! VonDoom in the Fantastic Four universe has the same temporal aura as Tony Stark in our universe. Like a black mirror type thing. Instead of a Stark Industries there’s VonDoom Industries. This is why RDJ can play him. I bet there won’t be a Tony Stark in that universe just like there’s apparently no Victor Von Doom in this universe. And I am 💯 here for it!
It just sucks that they are taking such a nuanced and fascinating character like doom and reducing him to basically "look, it's that actor who played a good guy, but now he's bad!" basically turning one of the best marvel villains into a gimmick cast for nostalgia and a cheap pop. All I can do is hope there’s multiple variants of doom and rdj is jus one of them
@@LeslieAdams-dd1iw ofc he will, he’s an academy award winning actor, combine that with the Russo brothers directing it’s a flawless hit. My complaint is that this rob’s multiple amazing actors of a chance to bring a villain to life that we’ve been waiting for and fan casting for years.
Is it possible that the RDJ Doom is the result of some infinity stone shenanigans in the same way that Red Skull touched the tesseract and ended up on another planet in a different galaxy guarding the soul stone? Also I love this casting. I can't wait for the inevitable initial interaction between RDJ Doom and the remaining Avengers that knew Tony. Esp Peter Parker. But also interested in seeing him meet Pepper and Morgan and Happy just to see what they can do with that from a plot perspective. But also I can see the Avengers thinking he's their Tony that has brainwashed in some way and trying to "fix" him a la Bucky only for him to be just completely evil. There are a lot of routes they can take with the story and some very interesting things they can do with the fact that one of the most Villainous people in marvel just so happens to look identical to one of the greatest heroes in the MCU.

@@alexanderreimann8967Could be Victor inside Tony's body because there's a comic where he swaps bodies with Tony out of jealousy for his lavish life. Guarantee if that's the case, they'll get them to swap again and we get Iron Man back and Dr. Doom in his original body again.
While I do feel this is a cop out on casting, I do think it’s possible he is like Chris Evans being both Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers. Perhaps he looks like Tony but he was born as and experienced the same life of the traditional Victor von Doom.
This only works if he's actually Victor Von Doom, not Tony Stark Doom. What sucks is they're rushing him, so it'll probably not be as impactful as Thanos, who was sprinkled in across many movies for 6 years before Infinity War. Doom is my all time favorite comic-book character, so while I'm hyped RDJ is back, I'm not particularly hyped he's playing the character. But, I'm willing to give the Russos a chance to make it work.

Tony was adopted by the starks in the comics so what if it’s the same in the MCU but in dooms universe he was never adopted and he stayed with original family and maybe that original family was the von dooms
I think this Doom will be a Tony Stark Variant that succeeds with his making of Ultron. And his Ultrons are his Doombots. And the Avengers in his Universe fight him and they end in a stalemate. And he retreats to Latveria and lives with a "you don't bother me and I won't bother you" lifestyle.
Kind of semantics. We all know there’s a storyline where they switch bodies they could technically call that a variant especially if he’s from another reality
I really hope they dont make him a variant of Tony Stark, I would like to see the original DR Doom story and have RDJ in makeup/prosthetics for his face
That will actually be a terrible direction to take. Because why else would they cast RDJ to take on the mantle of Dr Doom when he is specially known for his role as Tony Stark? I don't get it.

Another note: Clayton is right. This would be a great chance to explore a Tony variant that went another route. He has been such a morally fueled character fighting his own demons. Seeing him succumb to an alternate thought would be amazing. We got the highest hero but what about the cruelest villain? Who better to become than Dr Doom in that aspect? Additionally, so many comics showing Tony becoming a villain. This is a great way to illustrate that on screen.
ive always been of the opinion that when theyfully smash mutants etc into 616 probably post secret wars well eventually gt comics accurate “prime” doom in the future and everything is more or less soft-booted into a reality where mutant have always been in the mcu which resets everything essentially and then they get the freedom to recast, redo stuff etc for another decade plus.

Why did I read that in a whisper with Ryan’s voice 🤣🤣
lol I know right
This is the shirt I want lol😂
They didn't introduce a Stark variant, that's just an assumption from Screencrush. What they actually did was introduce Victor Von Doom played by RDJ.

Doom.

Remember how Tony is so confused about how far along his mother is in endgame. It could be his brother.
Solid no thank you to both.
@@dresinss nobody asked you. Thanks
Just because they introduced him as Victor Von Doom, that means nothing really. They've also done plenty of misdirection over the years. And there is an alternate universe version of Tony Stark who became Dr. Doom in the comics. I believe that's the road they'll take, it just makes too much sense on multiple levels.
You mess with time, it tends to mess back. You’ll see.
Tony Stark
I had a feeling that line was gonna become important again at some point
I think your concern is that the prestige that Doom has in the comics will not be the same if he is played by RDJ.
Regardless if he is an Iron Man variant or not, he will now be overshadowed. He will just be known as an evil Iron Man, while in the comics he is one of the biggest and most significant standalone villain in Marvel.
Love the RDJ casting, but I believe this was your concern.

Reeks of desperation. Doom was the chance for another actor to give us something original.
This Victor Von Doom played by Robert Downey Jr. comes from an universe where Tony Stark is played by Tom Cruise. There, I fixed it.
Thats All They Have To Do Make Tom Cruise The Superior Ironman ,RDJ Is Doom Simple From Another Universe
I'll take that
I think part of the choice to pick tony is to have doctor doom having massive gravitas and impact on his reveal.
It’s also a logistical nightmare because having Doom with the face Tony takes away from the true interactions.

RDJ as Doom is just silly. He’s great, but was there literally no one else?
It's what I said after my cousin told me the news when we came out from watching Deadpool 3
Since this is all multiverse ,I'm thinking it's a Tony Stark Variant but instead of being the hero this one becomes the villain .
Tony stark variant and i hope yall know iron man almost always turns evil
RDJ would be great as Doom
Bringing back RDJ back is a DESPERATE MOVE. They want the stats and numbers to go back up someway or another.
Iron man 2.
Back when the Arc reactor was being invented, Venko and Howard Stark took different paths.
Venko became "Stark" and Stark became "Venko"
So Instead of becoming Whiplash, Tony Stark became Dr.

HYPED !!!
I'm loving this theory
This sounds awesome.
Yuck.
Tony’s parents are killed by Captain America and he’s adopted by the Von Doom family.
This is the best way to do it where he isn't a Stark variant but the visual similarity isn't just ignored.

I can see a Tony Stark coming from Age of Ultron losing everything and becoming the "suit of armor around the world”, iron Legion becoming doombots, he is the only one knows about time traveling through quantum world, armor, ego, motives... he has it all.... and I can see someone in the shadows learning all of that and take it for it's own legacy, the real dr. doom...
Bruh!!! The farting Galactus cloud took me out!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I liked Majors Kang and wanted to see how they did it. How are they gonna change everything they set up with Kang? Did Loki and the TVA take care of him? Are u just gonna write Kang out in a way that messes up the story and what they set up with Kang? I'm a little worried that it won't make sense.
They explained it in Loki. TVA is watching any and every Kang variant and making sure he doesn't go villain on everybody again
Instead of absolute control over events Loki is just watching things playout and hoping his friends can fix it
Ryan Reynolds: "I am marvel Jesus."

This is straight out of one of the comic runs infamous iron man I think
Never mind it was a *What If* comic run

Everyone would know based on the fact that they didn't reveal who would be playing Doom and that this has been rumored. There would be no other reason to hide the casting.
i think what made the MCU great was that we could get to know characters without comics if you weren't a hardcore fan, but with multiverse everything will fall apart as these characters will not get enough depth or change before us as the viewers will get to be attached to them
Colton is actively talking himself into liking these decisions
Idk if he's talking himself into liking it or if he just generally likes it or is just haplessly optimistic, which is just fine if that's his true opinion (idk why he felt the need to default to playing devils advocate in favor of the choice rather than just engaging with the questions of the logic), but kinda feels like shilling cuz it's soo bizarre
@@mon_nobi colton is the most optimistic marvel fan i ever saw.
For real lmao
I think some TH-cam channel called “Emergency Awesome” guessed this correctly, few days before THEY ANNOUNCED IT
I just gave a deep sigh when I saw this.
We're never getting a proper live-action Doctor Doom now.
Truly, we DIDN’T see this coming………..
He could be a Tony variant that became evil, which would be really cool, and then after this version of Doom is done you could have a different Dr. Doom with the proper origin
In iron man wasn’t Tony selling the Middle East weapons that were killing ppl and children.. he wasn’t really a good dude ppl seem to forget
This is the worst take possible
@@aahilalwani5019😂😂😂😂😂
RDJ works on a few levels; 1. Nostalgia, 2. Talented actor/known actor, 3. Allows the audience to see a god emperor Doom while leaving flexibility to introduce a proper Doom in the 616.
This 1000%
Here's what you're not seeing : It's gonna be confusing for his friends and family: imagine Rhodey's, Pepper's, Peter's, Happy's and little Morgan's face seeing her dad/husband/best friend as a villain, did marvel even think this all the way through?

It’s paying off the Loki S1E1, TEMPORAL AURA scan scene! VonDoom in the Fantastic Four universe has the same temporal aura as Tony Stark in our universe. Like a black mirror type thing. Instead of a Stark Industries there’s VonDoom Industries. This is why RDJ can play him. I bet there won’t be a Tony Stark in that universe just like there’s apparently no Victor Von Doom in this universe. And I am 💯 here for it!
So you want them to Ironman doctor doom
Man, Ryan is so determined to put a full stop on everything instead of letting things play out.
Anything will be better than what Marvel is doing from 2020-2024😮
Colton is describing Superior Iron Man. Not Victor Von Doom.
Colton has a history of groveling to anything the writers decide
He's a mcu shill
@@pesky-media Ahhhhh okay. Makes sense. Because he was deflecting all of Ryan’s criticisms. Lol
It just sucks that they are taking such a nuanced and fascinating character like doom and reducing him to basically "look, it's that actor who played a good guy, but now he's bad!" basically turning one of the best marvel villains into a gimmick cast for nostalgia and a cheap pop. All I can do is hope there’s multiple variants of doom and rdj is jus one of them
So true
Yeah totally agree
It's rdj though he is going to kill it regardless
@@LeslieAdams-dd1iw ofc he will, he’s an academy award winning actor, combine that with the Russo brothers directing it’s a flawless hit. My complaint is that this rob’s multiple amazing actors of a chance to bring a villain to life that we’ve been waiting for and fan casting for years.
@@LeslieAdams-dd1iw with that being said : Cillian Murphy or Adam Driver would’ve been perfect picks to portray doom on the big screen
They announced him as victor von doom specifically so i hope hes just that. Him being an iron man variant wouldnt do justice to doom imo. Very excited to see rdj play doom tho hes gonna kill it
@@alexanderreimann8967Could be Victor inside Tony's body because there's a comic where he swaps bodies with Tony out of jealousy for his lavish life.
Guarantee if that's the case, they'll get them to swap again and we get Iron Man back and Dr. Doom in his original body again.
They already said he’s victor von doom. How do you guys not get it?
Why though? I'm just asking genuinely, not trying to be funny. I'm just kinda confused, I think making him The Infamous Iron Man is a great way to bring back Iron Man while also bringing the menace and power of Doctor Doom. I'm really no Doctor Doom expert or anything but yeah. Just wanted to ask cause I'm curious what the issue is. 😅
@@JomarionCareyLike they touched in the video, Doom's ties to the FF and the country of Latveria are at the bedrock of what makes him work as a character. If they go the route of keeping his origin intact just with the same actor who played Tony Stark, it works. If they go the route of making him a Tony Stark variant, well, it could still work, but it's not gonna feel like Doom.
I also wonder how they're gonna get around Molecule Man and the Beyonders not being part of Secret Wars. Perhaps they will show up? The other thing is the story calls for Cap and Ironman to be there. Are they using RDJ and Chris Evans, or new actors for that? So many questions...
@@kuakilyissombroguwi Yeah, I guess I get it a lil bit. But the new Fantastic Four will have a version of Doom I'm sure. But I suppose it would be weird for RDJ to be Doom right before the real one took over.
You're right though, a lot of questions for sure, I'm very intrigued to see how it all plays out!
What if this is the ultimate villain reveal, and when the movie comes out it is someone completely different than RDJ.
When Thor holds Deadpool crying in D&W, they were defeated by Doom… 😏
That’s a hell of a prediction
Nice prediction and tie in.
It looks like Tobey Maguire.
@@kermitbq I hope Thor links with his brother one last time. I’m proud of Loki
And he retreats to Latveria and lives with a "you don't bother me and I won't bother you" lifestyle.
they specifically said RDJ was playing Victor Von Doom, so it wont be a Tony varient.
Kind of semantics. We all know there’s a storyline where they switch bodies they could technically call that a variant especially if he’s from another reality
I really hope they dont make him a variant of Tony Stark, I would like to see the original DR Doom story and have RDJ in makeup/prosthetics for his face
That’s what I want
That will actually be a terrible direction to take. Because why else would they cast RDJ to take on the mantle of Dr Doom when he is specially known for his role as Tony Stark? I don't get it.
@@firstlegend5105 Chris Evans has played both Johnny Storm and Captain America. It can be done.
Dr. Doom is such a unique and incredibly deep character, changing him to be an alternate Tony Stark just seems insulting to Doom.
@@thefrothingotter8772 That was when fantastic four was in a terrible spot where it didn't take place in the MCU. If your suggestion is to make Dr Doom with a completely fresh origin from the comics, why cast RDJ instead of an original cast? There's literally no logic in that decision whatsoever to make RDJ a new look without making him a variant of Tony Stark
@@thefrothingotter8772 Nope its definitely meant to imply a variant. Chris Evans's Johnny Storm is not part of the MCU so that is why it is fine
Robert Downey Jr. isn't gonna stop breathing Marvel until he's 90.
That joke applies to franchise characters
