I was inspired to climb and hike in the hills by you more years ago than probably either of us would care to remember! So it was a delight to find you still inspiring outdoor adventures albeit at a slightly slower pace. I too have invested in a camper van, my MTB is still powered only by my old legs though but I can envisage an e-bike in the not too distant future. I’m very tempted by the XXL Ridgemonkey having enjoyed using the standard size for several years, what puts me off is that it might encourage me to indulge in one of my other favourite hobbies which is over eating!
I think you’re meant to close it while cooking as the heat will transfer to the top pan too and speed up the cooking time. It will also be more stable. And you cook easily flip it over to allow the sausages to cook on all sides.
You're absolutely correct but the beauty of the Ridgemonkey is that you can use it in some many different ways. I'd never close it up if I was cooking a steak for example. You'd end up with a broiled steak rather than a fried one. However, I feel that if the pans are designed to be opened up then they should stay open until you close them. You shouldn't have to hold it open.
@@CameronMcNeishOutdoors You’re right in some cases you want it open. In that case you can disconnect the two parts and use just the pan you need, either the grill pan or the normal pan. I’ve seen people use them as two individual pans on two hobs too.
Just bought mine, I have been advised to only use 100% Veg oil as the other spray oils have added ingredients that can reduce the life of the non-stick surface. Information came from a Ridgemonkey Rep
Got one myself, first outing was mid August,,very impressive and impressed with it ,did lamb steak n new pots in minted onion gravy, full english, bed n onion pie, obviously not all together, next outing is 2nd week oct, will be doing haggis neeps n tattie pie, with whisky gravy😁
Thanks for the video, it's certainly attractive from a point of view of minimising pans . Nice to see the comparison with the smaller model. The top lid keep dropping down seems a bind though.
Ah, but could you warm up sausage rolls and steak bakes in it or bake a pie, in it? Could you cook a curry in it or make a toastie? Or, if you're so inclined, a vegetable pasta dish? 😃
New Ridge Monkey is great veggies are so good for you. Take a very large potato , carrot , parsnip , broccoli florets , onion , capsicum anything you fancy. Do the potato , carrot, parsnip first cut up small and even soak in water do your other veggies same small size , mix together and 4 tablespoons oil , a sprinkling of old bay , Italian seasoning, salt and pepper the dry and fry with a little oil and garlic. Pull the lid down and you have roasted veggies.
Great review, I bought one from go outdoors, £50, brilliant bit of kit, used it on the bank using a bulin single gas burner, cooked a great brekkie, highly recommend it. I’m interested to know where you bought the cooking utensils from? Liked and subbed, Tony.
@@MEKAYJIMMYNATHE ah, apologies. You can save money by buying a similar thing on Amazon, the SQ Professional at £29.95, similar capacity but wider instead of deeper, giving it the ability to straddle both burners better This pan is as good quality as the ridge monkey( i have had mine in use for a year now with no sign of wear ), same clam design, Teflon lined with edge seals also with detachable handles and it saves you £26.
I bought an SQ one, but couldn’t see one that the handles removed. I ended up giving it away because it was simply too big for my camper van as the handles don’t remove. I have a couple of RMonkey ones, including this, and it works much better for me than the SQ version, excellent though that was at cooking.
Had one for ages , works better if you close it and, flip every so often while cooking, done everything in it from steak pies to Lorne sausage, black pudding and eggs
Hi I have the xl and bought a second one found it great having the two did consider the xxl but thought it would be to big having them both on the small camper van stove
The culinary delight creator extraordinaire. Not sure about you doing a doppelgänger with the spatula. 🤣 I am genuinely intrigued on whether i need to add this new one to my van - to improve my food creations.
Looks nice but that hinge should be changed so the top can be hinged right back and flat. Opening only to 90 degrees is an accident waiting to happen especially with hot fat involved! Not for me I'm afraid, I get equally good results from a good frying pan at a fraction of the price.
I'm not trying to sell it David. Simply showing i's availability. I like its size, that's why I bought it. I find the XL model a bit on the small side. People can decide for themselves once they've seen pros and cons.
It depends what you're cooking Jane. Steaks for example don't cook well when the lid is closed( unless you like them broiled) but other things cook better.
@@CameronMcNeishOutdoors Hi Cameron, just had a delicious rump steak in the xl with the lid closed for my birthday in the van. Crisp on the outside and lovely and juicy in middle..yum love thus larger one, but no where to stow it in our wee micro camper 🙂🐕🚙
Hi, I really like all your videos that I have watched since I discovered your channel recently. There is just one plea. The flashing 'lights' that you sometimes use to emphasise points bother me, I find them a distraction and simply too bright. They may even be a hazard for some of your viewers. Might you consider changing their 'look' on the screen just to tone them down?
That lid is dangerous so it's either a very bad design or not intended to be open but even just checking food could be a finger trap especially as its not very often you get a completely flat surface. Needs a redesign at that price. Not for me. There are better ones on the market.
We use the tf gear one. Slightly smaller but takes two slices of toasty if cut in half and we use for chops chicken etc. About £25. Disadvantage it doesn't have removable handles but sturdy padded bag. The sq grill from amazon is huge and only £30.
Beef n onion pie that should read, hate this bloody predictive text shit thing,no wonder the generation are like they are, I know what I need to say,and I have to fight against a machine to tell me what to say text or spell !!!! Aargh
Brilliant video cameron. Very informative and good to know. Emptying a cassette into a river is a vile thing to do. All the best m8.

Surely the whole point is to close it. Otherwise it’s just a frying pan with an awkward lid? Whoops crash 💥

@@mescovery8210 Being able to disassemble the pan(s) is possibly useful. However, sounds like a faff to me. Not in the spirit of camping.

My daughter-in-law made a cake for my birthday in our ridgemonkey. It turned out quite 'interesting' but the XXL looks like it would be better suited!

Think we'll all be cooking like that this winter.
So the big question - can you store the small one inside the big one to save space in the van
Cooking with Cameron! A new off shoot channel 😂

Yes it does Simon. Exactly thge same as the XL but bigger.
