Last week or so I have been using this method as an alternative from a 220 volt stovetop. I think I can save a bit of money each month. The set up I have a slightly different though.

When you want to heat up a cold burner, you can drip a small amount of fuel into that little "moat" around the outside of the ring of jets. Light that as well as the fuel in the middle. Various ways to drip it. Simplest is to dip a twig in the unlit burner then drip a few spots of fuel from the twig into the moat.

A wonderful demonstration. I lost three meals in the woods last year because of wind.(back pack stove, windshield, canteen cup). Now I understand the logic of having a Trangia cook kit. Cheers from the South Carolina Lowcountry.2024

i have a 25 and a 27 and use them all of the time, sometimes i cook full meals on the 27 with all of the pots and pans but i also take the 27 with me on dayhikes and hikes where i only need boiling water and strip it down to just the windscreens, the burner and the kettle. stripped down it doesn't weigh very much more than a trangia 28 and works fantastic in high winds with no additional windscreens. my favorite thing about the trangia 25 and 27 is that when you are using it, the pots and pans are always securely held in place and won't slide off or blow away easily. you can stir a pot with one hand and it won't slide off the stove.

Good Video Paul, the small hole is for the multi fuel adapter, as for the meths add 10% water to the meths, It will stop the pots going black underneath, it does work. I have 2 25's, a mini trangia and a gas adapter. I love them.

I thought I remembered this video 🙂. I loved it when I saw it the first time around. I think that is what I'll cook up for dinner tonight. It's been awhile since I served it up. I make it at home in my rice cooker by adding some brown gravy to make the rice cooker like steaming it better. Glad I ran across it again!
    Have a fine weekend 🤗.

13:50 Funny to see swiss army knife at work. When I was young I never used it. It was "If nessesesery" in my pocket.
15:05 I find aluminum lid from old cookware which fit with trangia pot. Aluminum foil is good enough too.

For me the best Trangia are the Storm Cooker 27-21 UL/D with Gas Burner, I have the Kettle 27 Small, 0.6 L and ditch the small pan, so one large pan and a kettle. I ditched the spirit burner many years ago, it takes much too long time to cook and uses too much spirit, so gas cooks much faster and uses not much gas, so it is a much more light weight solution with the gas burner ! Highly recommended.

Hello Paul, thank you for the video, I was wondering how the Trangia system worked, I liked the way you explained the smallest details, because they are all important. I was also thinking about the handle scratching the pans, it would be interesting to know if the rubber grommet versions are better? The video would have been even better without any music, just the sound of the birds and your voice. Thank you again!

12:50 No it's wont burn or melt. Melting point of aluminium is 660.32 C + all that mass of the kettle will not allow it to get to that temperature with a simple alchohol trangia stove.

The pot grip will fit on top of the kettle. Handle end near the spout. I find that I can get the burner a small bottle of detergent and a cut down cleaning pad in the kettle. You should also be able to get a microbites utensil set parallel to the pot gripper.

Have the brass burner - the “incendiary Swedish doorknob” and a 1 liter Trangia fuel bottle. Bought them last year, for “just in case” on a trip to L.A. (by request of an aged parent).
Am thinking to get most of the full set, for the following:
    1) Ebike “travel”. Due to age and health problems, I will probably need to stay in either hotels or “improved” campsites. (Electric power will be required) This will mostly be for backup, and/ or wanting a warm meal while “on the road.”
    2) power outages at home. These are rare - one to three a year - but have lasted as long as 16 hours. I *have* wanted warmed meals then.
I have very limited cooking skills, so a typical meal will involve “boiling rice and veggies.”

Have secured the Nonstick fryer, and just got the pan stand. Just need either the inner or outer duossal, opposite the one I have, the billy pot (washing up, mostly) and a bag like the one shown.

One thing I really appreciate about my Trangia 25 is how quiet it is. I sometimes will use a Pocket Rocket .. with gas cannister for a really fast cup of hot water. It's a tad faster for just that...but the noise is imho quite irritating... and far less stable than the Trangia.
Also the pocket rocket is very poor in the wind.
All around... Trangia is the winner for me.

I recommend putting the pot or kettle on as soon as you light it. It's just wasting fuel otherwise, plus the pot keeps the heat in and the burner blooms faster. I've never had one go out doing that.

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I had one go out last week with a kettle of cold water. It was on the triangle tho. Thanks 😎

I have two Aussie ones from when I was in the Army, but I left in the early 70s, so they are pretty ratty now. The Aussie ones were designed for two soldiers to clip theirs together to come up with a Hootchie a bit smaller than yours looks.

Really sorry this turned out to be a biggy, possibly too much home made wine lol……Anyways:
I really luv the Trangia kits. I've an old 25 series I bought years ago that I've used extensively when camping with my wife; we still use it today on our more comfortable glamping adventures. Crawling in and out of our little tents became a bit troublesome on the bones lol, but campers we'll always be in one form or another.
I also recently purchased a 27 series. Truly these Trangia kits in whatever size are almost bomb proof, they really are great bits of gear. We also have a Trangia triangle that we generally always use as a secondary burner so we can cook with at least 2 pots at a time.
Other great bits of kit we use are the Svea 123 and the Coleman's 442 Featherlight. We've had these at least 25 years and they still prove themselves to be reliable beyond their years. If you can find these buy them, they won't ever disappoint. On the Glamping front, (well it's Glamping for us now). We bought a poly cotton tent we can stand up in Outwell Concorde 5SATC, It's very spacious for 2 and for a small family, I'm really looking forward to introducing my 18 mth old grandson to camping this summer when he's 2yrs old, although my daughter and my wife think I should wait a while, lol. He fills my world what can I say; being a Grampa is in my opinion is pretty great, anyways the tent:

Intex queen air bed from Tesco's we'd heard great things about these and wow it's like camping in the Ritz, just make sure to protect the base of the bed, (Yep lesson learned lol after a silly mistake of not safeguarding the bottom of her bed we bought cheap Tesco roll mats at £5 for 2 to prevent the base of the bed from getting punctured:

We also bought a Sunngas Platinum Double Burner and Griddle:

It's pretty much exactly the same as the Outwell Chef Cooker Premium 3 Burner Stove and Grill but a little cheaper. Probably made from the same manufacturer in China and branded as required lol.
And a lovely double sleeping bag, I think this is the one we we bought:

All this kit I've mentioned you can disassemble, clean and get it looking like new again. Kick the disposable and embrace the recoverable and the renewable. My grandfather was a watchmaker….. I like that he tried to fix things before throwing them out.
I know we're not bushcrafters and we glamp more than camp now but we have over 30 years experience together in various types of camping and I just wanted to share a little of what we found to be useful.
Luv and peace to all…… my soapbox time has ended. lol
PS...Much as we luv camping we do really enjoy a holiday in a good hotel too….I just wanted to add that to balance things a little ……. : )

Camping is what you make it. Bivvy bag to a luxury motor home, it's all about escaping the four walls. Thanks for the comments, my biggest comment to date ;)

You can fry almonds to go with pasta. Butter and some grated cheese is good to add fat and taste.

Great review. What’s your opinion of the hard anodized version vs the non stick one? I’m torn between the two. Thank you sir

The hard Anodized set, will take a few knocks and won't scratch as easy. I would go for that one if it's not too much more expensive.
