My grandmother was a seamstress and as a child I would venture into fabric stores and sift through boxes of buttons and fabrics. Fashion is extremely powerful from its effects on climate change to personal identity. There's a lot of pain and struggle in the clothing that I wear. Over the years I've gone on a journey to push the boundaries of my personal style using the streets I walk on as my runway. Aside from the video there have been many comments that have misgendered me as "guy", which is difficult to hear as a Non Binary Transgender person ,my pronouns are They/Them( prior to being filmed on that day I was at an appointment for HRT therapy). There have been many instances where people have provoked me for my choices in fashion especially when I wear a skirt: two truck drivers roll down their window to yell at me where's your pants, a person poked at me and called me a "f@g", two subway workers called me nasty. I know other LGBTQI+ people of color (including Transgender women/non binary's of color) have been attacked in areas of the city for how they identify and choose to express themselves. I'm happy to share more about fashion and my personal journey along with resources to be a better ally. With Peace, @mx.fierce .
Shout out to all the men, wearing what the hell they like! Pearls, brooches, teddy bears etc. What they used to call "gender bending". Great to see it more mainstream now. I was always a big fan of David Bowie and Freddie Mercury. I think they would love, love, love to see these vids.

I've always loved broaches growing up but thought they were too dated to wear w/ my clothes. A zipper pull is such an innovative way to wear them, definitely gonna try.
Broaches are wonderful pieces that come in all shapes and sizes. Broaches shouldn't be limited to blouses/jackets. There's such unique ways to express who you are. Love, @mxfierce
honestly watching this ep made me tear up - its all the things i love about living here in nyc, and being surrounded by such interesting characters with diverse backgrounds and crazy stories behind their pieces. it made me so happy remembering pre-pandemic being surrounded by people and striking convos with strangers about our clothes, seeing the movement garments make in motion, etc. sigh. on any block in any borough you will find incredible people with beautiful stories. and the people here are art.
I MISS walking the streets of NY where style hits you in the face every second. This is life force! I love this series. I am so glad to see vibrancy and expression still thriving during this challenging time. Thank you for this series. And thank you to everyone who participates.
I love all of the beautiful people and styles you find!! You bring out so much light and life in whoever you meet. Watching these videos reminds me that people are inherently kind despite how tough or unapproachable they may look on the outside -- such a good reminder in these isolating times. Thank you!
I get a little homesick watching these. I miss being inspired by people watching. I love the idea of just repurposing and appreciating what’s out there, mixing the hi/lo, old/new. The idea of putting an outfit together via inspiration or because it causes joy is just not embraced enough in some places.
Karen, I love that you interviewed more men this time. I also love the unique style that New Yorkers have. I live in California and I feel that here the style is a bit boring. Everyone here seems to wear the same thing. So I’m thankful that you live there and find such interesting fashion. 😊
'There's too many clothes out there. You don't need to do new.' My favorite quote. I pop into your channel every once in a while. I like that you are interviewing interesting men, too!
I watched this with my youngest son who just turned 3 and he enjoyed watching the outfits, commented what he loved about them, especially the guys with more special looks he liked.I love how people wear what they love to wear and express themselves as they please.
My fave in this episode was the Valentina with the multi use of scarves everywhere and layering them. Such creative ideas in these episodes. Love New York style..
Karen, I really appreciate your "What everyone is wearing in New York " series. I love the way that you have "evolved " over the past 6 years. However, you're still so down to earth and have not let everything go to your head. Also, I so appreciate that you incorporate Michael in so many videos and of course your family and The Adorablely Amazing Paula!. Hopefully that all are doing well and safe. Karen I ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ these episodes. People on the street just open up to you. They want to be recognized and to share a part of who they are with you. It warms my ❤️
What I luv is how gracious people can be when being stopped even during CoVid. Take care but wear!!! 2020 has become my year of not “saving it for another occasion” Enjoy now as tomorrow is never promised.
I have a 12yo and she has her own style and likes to put things together in her own way. I tend to want her to do things my way, I’m an older mama and my old lady jumps out and I forget to put her back in. Your fascinating videos are making me understand that I need to allow her to express herself as she sees fit because that’s how she interprets her individuality in this world. We aren’t all meant to be the same.
If you are going to do the tie dye thing, I suggest using RIT Color Remover and use it in the washing machine instead of the bath tub. The bleach will wear out your fabric very quickly but RIT will not put hioles in the fabric like bleach will. Just make SURE that if you use RIT Color Remover or bleach that you keep the window open while you are processing the fabric! Both very toxic to breath for any length of time.
I am treating these episodes as a good movie; when watching them I lie down on my couch, get a blanket, push the pause button on life for a bit and just watch in awe 😻
I love hearing more and more ppl are tired of more brands and more clothes. Its already been done! Good for you NYC. We need to continue the message and keep this world free of clutter. Be sustainable. And to all my ALL BLACK only. Still only wear black to this day.
I always think to myself "I hope Karen would like this" when I'm putting an outfit together, even though I'm from Argentina and I have zero chances of meeting her 😂
So brilliant! Art on bodies with the backdrop of NYC . I have watched each episode and none is better than the other- they each are exquisite. Your pleasant demeanor, unerring eye, and creativity is all through each of the 16 episodes. Brava
I always look forward to What Everyone Is Wearing In NY. It really allows me to chill and unwind after I get home from work. Can't wait until the next one.
The Gucci suit guy--tailored to perfection. I had to go back and look at it again. Also liked the Ganni coat, the guys in McQueen--classic! Teddy bear purse was hysterical, but good as well!! Karen you are such an inspiration! :)
Purely ART with every person you stop... SO inspiring and intriguing. I love all the little vignettes throughout the video as well as the fierce fashion on display in the streets.... my wheels are turning!!😍
I started watching this series because I love seeing how people express themselves through clothing. But this series is more than that - it is a historical record of how people in NYC are not only surviving the pandemic, but adapting to thrive in it. I think the mix of casual wear (eg. mixing FOTL sweats with a beautiful coat) is an example of people embracing both the utility and the art in fashion. That mix is repeated over and over again in this video and I absolutely love it.
I love your street style vids! It's so good to see that even in the times we're living in, people are still themselves and showing their personality in their clothing choices. Thank you so much for continuing to go out and make these vids. Hope you and Michael and your families keep safe and healthy.
Karen, I LOVE this series! The fashion, the personalities, the views of New York City. And the episodes during Covid times, they capture this historic time we are living through. Episode 10, with videos from around the world at the beginning of lockdowns, it MADE ME CRY to see how it was affecting people everywhere. Thank you for the fun and the wistful.
Just luv this. Thank u for sharing. This is my style of wearing my Vintage finds, plus I design as well. This is so good to see. One of the things I luv about New York. Very Urban, Boohoo, Vintage, Classic Pieces. Just never goes out of style, it is about Attitude, and fun living life, no judgement, no shade. People can be who they r, and There It Is. Thank u so much.
that's so amazing Karen, New York is just such an eclectic mix of people and styles and influences from times past and from times to come. We are at the pinnacle of massive changes in history , I believe, and the fashion on the streets is but a reflection of the collective unconscious at the moment. Bravo!
I love that you are doing this. I live in Texas, but pre-Covid my friends & I travel to New York once a year just to shop & take in a Broadway show and fashion is what I always kept my eye out for while visiting New York
Awww thanks, love @mx.fierce . I love finding ways to wear things differently from scarves, brooches etc. There's such power in being able to create your own story how you wear pieces.
Yes, people are still dressing. I love your show Karen! You let me have the chance to take a peek at people’s daily life on the street of New York during the time of this horrible pandemic. Love and support from Taiwan 🇹🇼!
Love your street style videos. I think if you move around the boroughs you will find that each section has its own flair. Harlemites dress different than BK'rs. Queens as a different vibe vs. Upper East side.
I will say the people in this episode have the most "bizarre" outfits of all episodes. Their clothing conveys a message, in my opinion, that they are emotionally unstable, but when you talk to them, they seem pretty grounded, at least grounded enough to hold a short conversation. It makes me wonder what they are feeling and what they are trying to express with these outfits. I personally would never wear any of these clothes because they just don't appeal to my eyes, but seeing them makes me remember that we're all different and we have to respect each other's differences. Your footage of the New York area is captivating. One day, I'll see it in person! Thank you for this great series!

The girl in the all black!!!! So simple yet unique and affordable!!!
Amazing. Sat here on my sofa, transported for a short while. Thank you Karen 😀
Lirika Matoshi is an amazing designer! That's so dope that you talked to her! But everyone in this is amazing :)
....and she was incredibly humble.
I am treating these episodes as a good movie; when watching them I lie down on my couch, get a blanket, push the pause button on life for a bit and just watch in awe 😻
I love how thrift shops are becoming like the “exclusive” store lol bc most of the time what you find there no one will find again💛
it is often exclusive just because of price doesnt matter how old are the pieces
I love hearing more and more ppl are tired of more brands and more clothes. Its already been done! Good for you NYC. We need to continue the message and keep this world free of clutter. Be sustainable. And to all my ALL BLACK only. Still only wear black to this day.
I always think to myself "I hope Karen would like this" when I'm putting an outfit together, even though I'm from Argentina and I have zero chances of meeting her 😂
This episodes make me dream and are a kind of a little escape from "realitiy". Thank you dear Karen!
Love Antoinette's style with the Manitoba Mucklucks
Purely ART with every person you stop... SO inspiring and intriguing. I love all the little vignettes throughout the video as well as the fierce fashion on display in the streets.... my wheels are turning!!😍
I love how friendly and unapologetic people are and i love and respect this series!
I get so excited for these street styles! You have a great eye and I love hearing you talk about fashion
The dude in the Gucci suit and accessories was my fav.
I love that this is a mix of people wearing all designer, all affordable brands, or all thrifted! And they all look So Good!
I love your street style vids! It's so good to see that even in the times we're living in, people are still themselves and showing their personality in their clothing choices. Thank you so much for continuing to go out and make these vids.
Hope you and Michael and your families keep safe and healthy.
I love how excited people are to explain what they are wearing. Such joy!
These days reminds me more of the 90s all the time... and by that I mean... be free to wear your own style your own way
Karen, I LOVE this series!
I grew up watching Elsa Klensch. This video gives me that kind of vibe. I love it!!
Omg me too! Every Sunday me and my sisters would watch Elsa Klensch! 👗👔👘
@@6r4nd0n Don't you miss shows like that?
J W Hinton yes I do! I’m so thankful Karen picks up where Elsa left off! ❤️❤️❤️
This series makes me miss NYC. Great reminder of finding things we truly love :)
that's so amazing Karen, New York is just such an eclectic mix of people and styles and influences from times past and from times to come. We are at the pinnacle of massive changes in history , I believe, and the fashion on the streets is but a reflection of the collective unconscious at the moment. Bravo!
The guy with the Gucci suit was so chic!
I love that you are doing this. I live in Texas, but pre-Covid my friends & I travel to New York once a year just to shop & take in a Broadway show and fashion is what I always kept my eye out for while visiting New York
Love this series. The people are so creative in their clothing. And I love that Karen interweaves snippets of New York life between the interviews.
This is so inspiring. Everything. The natural dyes in the intentional raggedy wool coat and envelope pants.. just WoW
Esp love the multi-scarf and jewelry zipper-pull hacks. Wear all the special things!!! ❤🧡💛💚💙🤍🖤🤎
Brooch as zipper pull is brilliant!!!
I freaking love this series. Look forward to it like every month.
