Rear Disc Brake Conversion, The Right Stuff but with COMPLICATIONS!

  • One of the absolute best ways you can upgrade any classic car or American Muscle Car, is a disc break conversion. Most of these cars from the 60s and 70s came with drum brakes, which for the time were, ok, but for modern driving and hot rod power levels, just don't cut it. Fortunately there are lots of options available through retailers like Jegs or Summit Racing, or directly through the companies themselves like The Right Stuff.
For this video we are doing GM A Body rear disc break conversion on our customer's beautiful 1967 Chevelle. In stock trim the stock brakes MAY have held up, but as a 502 powered 4 speed car, brakes are definitely important! As with lots of cars that come to us, there are almost always hidden surprises, and that's exactly what we have here. Fortunately we were able to adapt and overcome, and get the job completed. Unfortunately, there's more work to be done so this won't be the last time you see this 1967 Chevelle SS in the shop!

Rich, you get to work on some really cool cars, thanks lots for sharing them. Time for a wobble pop or 2, getting home late. Happy you are showing something cool you are working on!

My father did rear disc to a Jeep CJ with Dana 44. He always had a hard time with them.
Iv re-done rear line size, prop valve and work better than brand new Jeeps.
Iv had them hit the rear of me when i am showing off how this old CJ ( 355 SBC) stops.
    Beautiful Chevrolet 💯🇺🇸🔥

Still watching from over here in New Zealand Rich.
Can we switch weathers as it's coming into winter over here & the steel work in the lower back becomes a right Batch in cold weather.
Love seeing all the old classics you get to work on Rich & have picked up a few tips along the way so thanks heaps Mate.

Don’t you just love how the owners don’t really know what parts to order for their car.😂 It’s definitely not saving anybody any time.

Rich a beautiful car. Sorry you had several setbacks. But, know you’re going to get it right. Like you said. No telling how many times in all these years had been modified. Thank you for sharing your work and expertise!
    💯👊👍

This video shows why a customer shouldn't buy the parts, let the mechanic handle the whole thing.

Where you able to find a master cylinder with 2 large fluid chambers for the front and rear disc brakes? I finally found one at O'Reilly.

Sweat band for your forehead is a big help. Also keeps sweat off your glasses. 🤪

Joe Shmoe might also enlist the help of a friend to put the car in gear and turn the rear end into the lathe needed to turn the axles. Not that its encouraged to do that way. I could just see a Shmoe doing that....

I was informed in March that I would not be able to wear shorts now, I now have a nasty case of a yeast infection. The positive is you don't have to deal with corporate america. I am very unhappy today!
