I have changed how I look at prayer. I learned one of the meanings of the original Hebrew word faith is support, as in support a higher being. Now I see prayer more as finding out what he wants and my prayers are to support that. Not blind faith but an understanding that there isn't anything God can't do. And if I rely totally and completely on him there isn't anything I can't do either.
I grew up in Germany. The Lord moved an entire mission office next door to my family, so I could be introduced to the church. After I became a member, He moved it somewhere else. Talk about coincidence!
So grateful for you Mike and Bryce. Your voice and your words are a daily part of my life. Thank you for taking the time to share your insights and teach us. Thanks for all your inspiration.
Thank you for this broadcast. 💖 I almost understood everything. English is not my mother language so it is miraculous I understood much of it. 🙏Concerning meeting my eternal companion is a good story too. Yes the Lord is preparing everything for us if we are willing to put our life in order and follow His instructions. It is a great blessing the lord gave me in teaching me english langage in my youth (like lehi or mosiah teaching the hebrew langage to their children so that they could learn the gospel). There are so many valuable videos and teachings available. But they are only in english. So I can say my Father in Heaven taught me the langage in which the scriptures are taught in our time. I am thankful for that. 🙏 Thanks to all the scholars who share with us their knowledge of the gospel. 🙏🥰💖
Thank you so much, I enjoy listening to your podcast, and have shared many espisodes with family. Thankful for all your efforts in doing this podcast, so that we may listen and learn.😊
The best archaeological book on the Book of Mormon that I have found (and I have read nearly all published since I got my degree in the archaeology field and love this stuff) is Exploring the Lands of the Book of Mormon by Joseph & Blake Allen. (The large text book not the smaller picture book)
I had the opportunity to go on the Allen's Book of Mormon tour to Guatemala, Mexico and Honduras with my mission president and my family a couple years ago. The plausibility of the reality of Book of Mormon lands in mesoamerica is incredible. I have a little souvenir of Mayan weights and measures that match Alma's description. Nice to have a sense of place when I read the Book. But yes, ultimately it only matters how I let the Book of Mormon enter my heart and inspire my faith in Christ. Thanks for always sharing inspiring words in your podcasts.
I got their book for Christmas one year and it’s excellent. I think sorenson’s city of bountiful location works better than theirs but the cultural information they have in the book is really good.
It is interesting, after having watched April General Conferences, to see some harder things coming out to the general memberships. the wearing of Garments is the latest thing now to set the influencers on fire. As well as the Salt Lake Wasp, oops, Tribune. Then I read in The Words of Mormon verse 17 about the holy men that did speak the word of God with power and with authority, using sharpness because of the stiffneckedness of the people. Are we reaching that time where the world-view is beginning to dominate the eternal-view? I think it has been coming for a while now.
Thank you for this! In your previous episode, you spoke a lot about the Apostacy. I'm very interested in learning about the different sects that you were talking about and how it lead to the Great Apostacy. Are there any books/other sources where you've gotten that information?
Thanks for listening! I (Mike) have a page on my website where I share books that have helped me in my studies. See: www.ldsscriptureteachings.org/2023/05/books-i-recommend/ One of the books on this page (it sends you to an affiliate link) is Bruce Shelley's "Church History in Plain Language." If you are new to this subject, this is a good place to start. The first several chapters open up the idea that there were many ways the early Christians saw and talked about Jesus. Orthodoxy, at least as historians discuss it, took years to figure out. Another book that has helped me, although it doesn't necessary build faith (it is more of a historical analysis) is Bart Ehrman's "Lost Christianities." There are so many books on this subject, so to answer this question really depends on how much of this you have pulled on this thread. The great thing about both Shelley and Ehrman's books is that their bibliographies can send one on a journey to see all the various ways the early Christians tried to work out an orthodox understanding of their faith and how it fit in their world. Thanks again for listening and caring about this topic!
Sorry for so many questions, I really appreciate you responding. Omni 1:20-21 says Coriantumr was found by the people of Zarahemla in Mosiah's day, the father of King Benjamin. However, in Mosiah 22:14 and other places in Mosiah where the Jaredite record is mentioned, it seems to say that the record didn't come to Zarahemla until Mosiah2, the son of Benjamin. Omni describes the record as a large stone whereas in Mosiah the record is described as 24 plates of gold, not sure if there are two different records?
I hear and read a lot of commentary about the Meso-American v Heartland Theories. Other than a matter of historical interest, is there a difference one or the other makes in our understanding of the BoM and the gospel?
Have always enjoyed your insights on your channel. However, Mike it wasn't Elder Renlund who gave that talk about Divine Design. It was Elder Rasband who gave the address titled, By Divine Design. Not a faith breaker,, figured you got names mixed up. Thanks you two for your love and testimony of the Savior, the gospel and for the scriptures.
If the small plates were translated after the rest of the Book of Mormon, that seems to include the Words of Mormon. Do we know where the small plates and Words of Mormon were physically located in the gold plates? The translation order makes sense if the small plates and Words of Mormon were at the end of the rest of Mormon's record. However, Words of Mormon seems to indicate that the small plates were inserted in the middle of Mormon's record, see verse 9 and starting in verse 12 Mormon seems to continue his abridgement, which he would have already done on the lost portion of his abridgement. Thoughts on this?
There are lots of examples of Hebraisms in the text. One scholar of the Book of Mormon [has theorized] that “Nephi wrote in the Hebrew language but used Egyptian characters or script in the same sense that a stenographer uses Greek characters to express English words” (Sidney B. Sperry, Our Book of Mormon Bookcraft, 1950, p. 31) There’s lots of ways to skin this cat. I may do a video in the future showing possible examples of this throughout the text. Thanks for listening!
Jeffrey, this is Bryce. I am a Heartlander as well. But I’m curious to know what your reference on Elder Holland is. I don’t recall him ever saying that. Could you share the reference?

We do not know where they were on the gold plates, only the timeline when Joseph translated them.
Is it fair to discuss Hebrew words in the Book of Mormon when the written language was "reformed Egyptian"?
