Loved that Ezra Taft Benson quote!
"When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest, in that moment God will endow us with power." Keep the commandments, not as a checklist, but as a protected treasure. ❤

I am so glad I discovered your Podcast. I love the insight that you and Bryce bring to my study of the scriptures. Thank you both for your enthusiasm for the Gospel and the scriptures. We are living in a blessed dispensation. Such a wealth of knowledge. Such availability to the scriptures and the words of prophets, seers, and revelators. God Bless you!

I've learned when trials come that getting upset is a waste of time. And it's a lot easier to solve the problem by partnering WITH our Savior and Heavenly Father to do so.

Mike: We love it when you "geek out" on ancient texts and scholars writing about them.
Thanks for putting them in the show notes. My husband and I love to "geek out" on them, too.

Don Bradley's work on the Liahona and other parallels between OT Israel and Lehite Israel (in his book The Lost 116 Pages) was really eye opening for me and helped me learn more about not only the Book of Mormon, but also covenants, Israel, the temple, and God's relationship with man. And it wasn't a hard read. It made me want to get right back into the Book of Mormon. Highly recommend!

Hello Mike and Bryce, thank you with all my heart for your time. You can't imagine how much this episode helped me. My husband told me to listen to them. I think it was for me. In December they fired me from my job after 24 years of working, half my life with many sacrifices and I am faithful to my commitment to the Lord and I am a full payer of tiths and I believe the same thing happened to me as Lehi but Nephi was an example For me, thank you for helping me get out of this moment of darkness that I was in and hold me back to an iron bar. You are my heroes. I watch all your podcasts. Thank you for showing them the light of our Lord and Redeemer Jesus Christ. 😘😘❤❤

Such great insights this week as to the importance of responding to our trials with positivity and faith! The scripture references in chapter 22 mentioned and explained at the end of the podcast are comforting and reassuring at a time when many of us forge ahead in the face of some uncertainty. I always appreciate hearing historical context and meaning for word usage. Thank you for sharing your understanding and expertise.

Mike & Bryce, Thank you so much for your examples of true scholarship & discipleship.
Our mortal minds can never fully understand how we've impacted the lives of others. I pray that the Heavenly Father will someday show you just how much we needed both of your voices speaking to our hearts & minds as we invite the Holy Ghost & the Spirit to be our dearest influence.
Thank you for joining my "cloud of witnesses" & helping me become a witness for others. God bless you both for this joint venture here & for all you're doing individually. And, of course, for your real lives.
And Mike, please Don't Apologize For Geeking Out!
Jesus has to be the biggest geek of ALL!!! He knows All Things. Knowledge (with Spirit) brings Power to Act! Love to you both.
    Thanks again. 🙏 ❤ 😇

I’ve been working on a paper with a comparison between Nephi, David, and Jesus. Nephi sets himself up as a type of David to prove his authority. David is a known Christ type. The narratives of defeating Laban/Goliath/Satan are striking! I’ve found some incredible parallels!

    Consider the following…
The Liahona had two pointers. If each pointer was affected individually and respectively by the faith and righteousness of Lehi and his wife Sariah. Then they would have to be united in cause and spirit for the two pointers to both point in the same direction. This would not only tell us the true direction because of the “two witnesses". It would also emphasize the need for one heart, one mind, one spirit of eternal companionships. One pointer was not more important that the other. I do not believe that the pointers were labeled. It was just a true indicator of Celestial type unity. The writing that appeared on it came as extra information and guidance for Lehi & Sariah to use to guide the family. It was a tool for Lehi and Sariah to use together. And only together. Side by side.

This spurred a thought and question and was hoping to get your insight. Nephi had the items to appoint him king. One of those items was a breastplate with the Urim and thummim . No where it says where that came from. But when Nephi meets Laban at night it does mention Labans breastplate. And Laban had been out with the elders. Could it be Laban was out partying with the priests robes and wearing the breast plate and urim and thummim. It makes sense because Nephi copied the sword of Laban for defense but armor like we think about it wasn’t invented until captain Moroni hundreds of years later. Just curious if my thinking is plausible.

In another podcast he pointed out people that are prone to the iron rod to lead their life and then we graduate to the Liahonia which is more liberal. Balance both methods of guidance.
