    I accidentally left one of these in my pants pocket when doing laundry. Had the light had a charging port I would now be one light poorer. However, the light came out clean and functioning! I was super impressed.

    You can use any wireless charger (”qi charger”) to charge these. For someone who already has flat wireless chargers around the house for charging phones, airpods etc. the cradle becomes optional.

    I have the Unit 1 Aura System arriving next week. Similar concept, lights can be front/white or rear/red independent of app, phone or Bluetooth. How? Flip upside down to change, similar to RedShift's ArcLight Pedals. Brighter than Lumos - .5 x 6 inch "wands" with magnetic mounts. Aura helmet is lighter, more comfortable, better fitting and venting is truly next level - best of ANY Helmet to date. Ebike speed certified. Safety, visibility, crash detection alerting GPS sent to assigned contact.
    Finally: Directional lights, "blinkers" only communicate effectively if they have context. As you said, otherwise it's a blinking light. Best way to communicate this is making BOTH SIDES light. One blinks or sequences, the other steady on for context. Adding multiple light sources to show the intent is better still -IF done properly. Its not a light show, its a communication method. Aura is at the head of the group, and focused - no Bluetooth speakers, phone call management here.

      @BikeShopGirl  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had the Aura show up last week and completely disappointed by it. I’m interested to see where you end up!
      The button is insanely hard to use. I’ve emailed multiple times about it and they have brushed it off. The lights are pretty limiting on where I can mount them on my bike. I love the flipping to white/red but don’t move the lights a ton so I don’t mind the app integration. There is no sound indication is the helmet has turned on or not….
      The visor is easily bumped off, same with the shield. Removing the shield with the visor on means the visor pops off :(

    Worth mentioning is the wireless charging is using standard Qi, so your wireless phone charge (or even your phone with share batter capability) can charge those on the go.
    Also, for a "smart light" that doesn't integrate with my Garmin bike computer (to auto turn on/off, battery level monitoring), this is not that smart.

    Excellent review. I've run them through a winter of night-time city commuting in Melbourne, Australia mounted on the bar-ends of my drop-bar gravel bike. They supplement a much brighter rear flasher on my rear rack and a twin beam Ay Up front light setup. The bar-mounted remote control to flick between turn indicator and flashing red is really nice and really adds to visibility. As you noted, battery longevity could be better, but I carry spare units and swap them over when they fail. Yeah, not ideal, but works for me. The remote also needs recharging but I get about 4 weeks so I *could* charge more routinely. Finally, I think the bar-end mounts are the best I have ever used for mounting anything. These lights are not falling out or off. However, the internal cage is brittle and I am not the only user who has had them break - again, version 2 will make these magnificent.

      I also would like to know if the white/red can be off and only function as turn signals. For the Lumos Ultra helmet this is possible in the flash pattern creator in the app, where the white/red light can be set to always off.

    • @jalexanderdatkins
      @jalexanderdatkins 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s not possible, but both front and back have a blinking pattern that does not use much battery. Also even with a helmet, when you indicate right (for example) the front left lights up white while you’re indicating. That’s not a problem for battery life but it makes the signal harder for another road user to see. Apparently the Lumos company does not consider that you might want to use the indicators in the daytime or with other lights.

EG you can't leave them on your bike and then use them as indicators without first turning them all on every time you get on the bike? Thanks.

    • @BikeShopGirl
      @BikeShopGirl  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That is correct. They are battery powered so you need to turn them on/off. You can turn them off all at once since they are connected once awake but turn on individually.

  • @BN99239
    @BN99239 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It really is unfortunate when a great product decides to use their own proprietary charging options. Like you've mentioned, it's inconvenient to have to bring along the proprietary charger. It's also a pain to lose the charger and have to spend quite a bit of money to replace it. As for the people who say that it's fine because it makes the lights waterproof, that's a horrible reason. Many USB C ports are water proof with a silicone cover and many are waterproof even without a cover, like your phones. We literally have action cameras that people take into the ocean with them. The decision for a company to make their own proprietary charger is mostly a money driven decision, so don't try and defend them.

    G’day Bike shop girl, I require your input. I picked these up on a Kickstarter (4 pack with quad charging mat) a long time ago when they first launched but yet to try them out (I’ve had them well over a year now) I had plans to put on my Apollo City Pro scooter but use a Livall (NH51M / NSO) smart Helmet instead that has integrated turn and brake lights built in. My plans for the fireflies were prior to the Livall so my preference now is to use the fireflies on an E Bike (yet to be purchased) Just struggling on which Lumos helmet to compliment the Fireflies, in your opinion which is your preferred Helmet to match? The Ultra E bike or Ultra Pro ? Anything else in the Lumos line up? Most of my riding is in the warmer months of spring / summer. Whatever suggestions you have would really help in my decision

      I think maybe my comment was unclear. I noticed I left out the word ''no'' before the word ''smart'' , so it should have read So there is no smart braking..... You see the whole point of smart braking as I've heard the term used, is that it's automatic, because you can't obviously be actively riding and using a remote simultaneously, certainly not when coming to a unexpected stop.
