Wow. This is cool, honestly from everyone I talk to the track function isn't the most useful as police rarely engage unsolicited tracking, but the alarm function is super helpful!!!
I installed one on my bike a year ago. I feel much safer now. I think its a great idea because it will more likely prevent the bike from being stolen as opposed to using an Apple unit that will only notify you after the bike has been stolen.
Interestingly I got visited by the local police today at my home. They were asking if I had seen a suspicious vehicle as a bike had been stolen and it was tracked. They didn't say if it was GPS or Apple but it was clear there was a single coming from it recently. My AirTag is stored on my bike in the 1st Aid bag in the saddle bag. It's an OK idea but not the theft protection you mention here. Very interesting video and product I had not heard of. Thanks!
when using multiple phones (i.e. wife and I or friends) is it possible to connect multiple phone to the Knog scout? Or what happen if I switch phone or use my professional phone?
I would like to know about gps tracking systems other than apple air tag. It’s good to think outside the box. However the drawback is it won’t track unless your phone is nearby. I am interested in a stealth device that would track continuously. Thank you for your video.
I just bought the knog scout but I have a question, when someone tries to take my bike and the alarm start to make that sound, it will turn off in some seconds or it will continue until I turn it off from the app?
I find there’s no noticeable difference between the different movement sensitivity levels. No matter the movement, it’s almost always triggered instantly. Do you experience the same?
Thanks for the video! Quick question - if I leave my bike locked up at home and travel with my iphone can I set this up to alert me if it is stolen from my home?
It only alerts you if you are within Bluetooth range. I would look at the invoxia Invoxia Real Time GPS Tracker with 1 Year Subscription NO FEES - For Vehicles, Cars, Motorcycles, Bikes, Kids - Battery 120 Hours (moving) to 4 Months (stationary) - Anti-Theft Alerts a.co/d/cMyrYc3

Our local shop(Bicycle Gardens Winnipeg) who sells Dutch bikes said that three of their bikes were stolen and one of them had a café lock and was the one they got got back from police..
Just installed on my KBO ST Breeze. I did use the washers/shims under the Knog Scout. The screws will be more flush so the cover installs flat , instead of bumps from the screw heads. I installed the cover to protect it from the elements its at the bottom of frame right behind front wheel. Its slick but the alarm is a little low even on full volume.
I installed this on one of my bikes, but the included screws were way too long! So I had to use standard screws, and it kind of defeats the security aspect. The Knog documentation is rather sparse - have you figured out what the (rather well-hidden) sensitivity setting means? I also wish it had a fob so I wouldn't have to deal with the top to arm/disarm it. Great video :)
Sensitivity is for how hard it needs to be knocked to set off the alarm. For example, low sensitivity on mine gives a warning chirp first. I can’t say I’ve ever heard of screws too long! Which bike was it on?!?
Could this work on an e-scooter? There are no pre-existing holes where a water bottle holder would be and we are hesitant to drill holes in the stem of the scooter. Maybe 3M or heavy duty adhesive to the bottom of the scooter to conceal it? It was just stolen from a college campus but recovered since my son had an AirTag installed. Thank goodness, but definitely want to prevent that from happening again. Just spent $300 on a new lock but feel like an alarm is also key.
I discovered your channel today and have been binge watching :) We have two very nice E-Bikes and I want to be able to worry about them less. Your info has really helped. Your delivery is A+. I don’t have an iPhone, but I do have an iPad. I installed the Knog app and it looks ok, though I don’t have a Knog device yet. Any idea if it works with iPads?
I'm assuming you can use regular bolts to attach to your bike, rather than the bolts with the security heads? Those don't look very good for torquing down properly to your bike frame
i am interested in knowing what kind of range the bluetooth alert signaling has. I might give one of these a try. I don't think i want to alert people to where i am placing this device.. because a thief could then target how to defeat it.. and that it even exists.. a thick muffle could muffle the alarm.. and if the thief knows where the alarm is they know where to place the muffle over.. once i get one i will experment with ways to minimise the ability of a theif from muffling the alarm. and as for the screws.. i would double secure them by applying somthing over the screws so they are hidden and even getting the specialty screw driver will not be able to turn them .. somthing like GB weld or something like that.. also i am wondering if it would be possible to secure them to the frame with stainless stell hose clamps.
i myself using apple air tag and cheap Chinese alarm, both are working perfectly in tandem. Apple air tag already helped, my bike was stolen and i was able to recover it using apple air tag.
Hey do you know if it has the same issue/feature as AirTags where it notifies the phone of anyone who takes possession of your bike after they’ve had it for 12-24 hours? With the AirTags, it notifies them (iPhone or Android) and let’s them disable the tracker.
It does notify who ever in close range as AirTag does only when you activate the Lost Mode through Find My app. But it would not notify like AirTag does when it follows you around if you are not the owner of the bike.
This is very cool! I use a Bordo Alarm + an AirTag (in addition to the U lock), but I like that this is all in one and much cheaper than that combo. Another question is, can you reasonably use it on a shared family bike? A challenge with AirTags is that they can only be associated with one iCloud account, and that means that some family members are going to get annoying notifications whenever they use the bike. It would be cool to see if your partner is at least able to control the alarm from her phone.
I did some research for the final review... In the US, 55% of cell phones are iPhones. It is relying on Apple technology for it all to work so I don't think they would have a viable affordable product without going the Apple route.
@@BikeShopGirl I think so too, but in doing so they've effectively cute off 45% of the US market. And that is just here, what about the global market reach? Also there are already airtag mounts out in the market along with 3d printed ones for people who just want a tracker without the alarm, this makes its market even smaller. It's unfortunate though I think it's a great idea and has great potential. Don't mind my Apple only angst, this stems back some platform exclusive game issue that has irked me from a very long time ago.
@@LawrenceSeetoh, there are over 125 million iPhones in use in the US and over a billion around the world. I’m sure a good percent of e-bikers use one. The potential market is huge. Not for me though; I use myself as security. I never, ever leave my e-bike out of my physical possession. This alarm would IMO not deter a local bike thief. And the cops in my area (Manhattan) don’t care about e-bike theft unless you rob a bike store. One cop I spoke to at length was somewhat perturbed that the state doesn’t require them to be registered and licensed (he wanted to be able to track down hit and run e-bikers which I completely get but IMO the cons of e-bike registration outweigh the extra detective work required to find the perp w/o the benefit of a bike registration system). I got the sense he felt if you won’t require them to be regulated like autos and motorcycles then we have bigger fish to fry. Which I think is awful policy. Most e-bikes are expensive enough to constitute Grand Larceny - a felony. It would be my absolute pleasure to indict a bike thief on felony charges. Thank you for entertaining my tangent.
Oh thank you for sharing, it was a pleasure to read your thoughts on this. for the Knog Scout, I just feel that by taking this route they saved money and got the product to the market faster but in doing so limited their market reach. And I concur, having and leaving the bike (locked) near me and/or in a secured place is indeed preferred option. Though having an annoying alarm is always a fun thing to have. As for the laws and regulations, TBH, even if bikes and E-bikes and license and registration, I doubt the NYPD will spend an iota of time tracking a stolen bike. They don't fancy us very much, less so ebike delivery folk.
@@LawrenceSeetoh I don’t fancy the e-bike delivery folk either because 99% of them are out of control and pay no attention to any rules. My Specialized Vado 5.0 was stolen while equipped with a Knog Scout. The Minneapolis Police, yes, the famous George Floyd murdering cops, told me on the phone that I had to be within two blocks of the stolen property and it could only be between 9am-10pm. So the next morning I tracked my bike, I could actually see it in a homeless encampment. I called the Police, they came within 3 minutes which is amazing. They verified that the bike was mine because I had the serial number in the SPecialized app, and they went and got my bike back. No arrest, not even a thought, but I got my bike. I was operating the Scout in silent mode so there was no audible alarm and the thieves didn't detect the tracker which was concealed beneath the water bottle cage. It worked! $4500 bike back, less all of the accessories.
Interesting. I am absolutly not interested in making noise, when someone just shakes the bike stand. Noone really cares here, when car or shop alarm launches on the street. Quite the opposite - ppl feel upset. Also - bike get stolen from your basements here most of the time - the alarm does not help much in the night imo. I would prefer a gps tracking of in-bike hidden unit. Sadly, this one is not that, and does not support Android, which is a real pity.
So the airtag is pretty much pointless unless you drive around and are within Bluetooth range. I wish they would make it more universal like with a Tile since Apple is greedy/selfish and never makes anything universal like android. But like you said I guess you really should just have a good alarm system because being in Bluetooth range after getting a bike stolen will be very difficult to track. Thanks for this review, I always thought airtags were gps trackers.
Incorrect. AirTags only require you to be in range of another iPhone which with over 1 billion in circulation is hard not to be. This is why you can track your AirTag around the world while you are at home. Tile in theory will work if you are within range of another device that has the tile app running in the background on their phone . I have both. If you have an iPhone you want to use AirTags which work very well. Tile I’ve never had any success with a lost item. The only thing the tile is useful for is quickly finding my phone if the tile is within Bluetooth range of the phone. I can click the tile it rings the phone. Big deal. I bet AirTag put a huge dent in tiles business.
@@frankfurter7260 I just figured that out, but after watching it tested against a gps tracker and galaxy smart tag, the galaxy smart tag works far better in accuracy and reliability.
@@BikeShopGirl galaxy smart tag is still better. I don't know why these tags have to be phone specific, it would be nice if it would just pin off all android or iOS users, but that's capitalism I guess, and Apple strives on it. I think I can still use the galaxy app on my Google Pixel though.
No customer service! The Dam thing wouldn’t shut off and the App locked me out and was unresponsive! The alarm on my phone is loud but the alarm on the bike is a lame beep beep beep little sheep! It sucks!
Not including the USB C cable is not cutting down on waste, this product is intended for iPhone users, who are not likely to have a USB-C cable already, the packaging generated by having to buy one separately is much more waste than sending everyone a USB C cable in the box. The only person who this benefits is the manufacturer because now they can make more money off their product.
I work in packaging waste for tern and sit on a sustainability committee for the outdoor industry. The number of charging cables that are thrown away a year according to studies is insane!
@@BikeShopGirl However for a product like this, which assumes an iPhone user has a cable that currently is not used on thr iPhone, is that really going to be the case? Is that waste of people having to go out and buy the cable offset by not providing it? Completely agree, but besides GPS I don't know of another good tracking system that doesn't rely on 3rd party apps (Tile). What do you think?
Zack - any apple device with find my will help you track your device.
Watches, phones, computers, iPads
@@BikeShopGirl galaxy smart tag is still better. I don't know why these tags have to be phone specific, it would be nice if it would just pin off all android or iOS users, but that's capitalism I guess, and Apple strives on it. I think I can still use the galaxy app on my Google Pixel though.
No customer service! The Dam thing wouldn’t shut off and the App locked me out and was unresponsive! The alarm on my phone is loud but the alarm on the bike is a lame beep beep beep little sheep! It sucks!
Yup apple sucks tho so forget this
Who still uses an Apple?
Most people I know 🤷🏻♀️
Not including the USB C cable is not cutting down on waste, this product is intended for iPhone users, who are not likely to have a USB-C cable already, the packaging generated by having to buy one separately is much more waste than sending everyone a USB C cable in the box.
This is not some random mini usb cable that is obsolete and people have five of them, a lot of people don't have type c cables yet.
Consider how much packaging amazon will use to ship out a cable.
Ah I understand your point!
@@AndrewStrydomBRP Recent EU legislation In 2024, a USB-C port will become mandatory for a whole range of electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets, and headphones. Well done EU.
@@SimonBrowneNZ Doesn't really change anything right now since 2024 is still 8 months away, my point is still very much valid, and apple might also not even put ports on their next device, which is technically a bypass.
Also no live tracking smh what a trash product
you never tested it in the cold months SCAMMER
What do you mean? Maybe watch all the videos :)
I loved this especially the ending. Need subs? -> *Promo SM*.
I am locked out of the App … no customer service … i tried resetting password via email but the App still responded with incorrect credentials … the alarm will not turn off .. very frustrating ,,, removed from bike .. and looking for alternative … the bottom line … you pay for what you get … cheap solution!
