Possible idea, “How to make Spy better in MvM.” It’s not like Spy doesn’t have a niche in any MvM missions, but he is almost always the least enjoyed class to both play or see on your team, so I think it would be interesting to theorycraft a better set of upgrades for Spy. 2 ideas of my own, just because: *Disguise Mastery* Like Healing Mastery, it’s a collection of minor upgrades that all improve with each tick, in this case being: Decreased speed reduction while disguised, decreased aggro during disguise and right after removing disguise, and increased damage reduction while being disguised. *Timed Disguise* Instead of losing your disguise right away, one tick of this will provide a timer that drops your disguise at the end, and additional ticks will extend the timer. The timer is reset if you get a backstab while still disguised. These could both be combined too.
Ubercharge backstab (uber to escape) Disguise on backstab (a couple upgrades to make yer better) explosive backstab (like explosive headshot) and finally Critstab (crits always backstab)
first, a rollback on how the DR worked before jungle inferno. the ability to reduce death times just hasn't been there, and now that the damage reduction is also gone, a giant will just blast trought him even with the clock on arguably, giving the other clocks instant hiding would boost them against non-explosive units shield on backstab, the big weackness is that, even if you get 2, or in the utterly best case scenario, 3 backstabs on bots, you are still uncovered, back to the enemy, at meele range. some of the other effect of the knives just evaporate as you flat out cannot chainstab. another small addition should be a rework on giants defense against unupgraded knifes, IMHO it should do a flat amount of minimum damage, things it doesn't actually do untill upgraded third, revolver impact on tanks; in theory a fully upgraded revolver will make significant dents in the tank, but an upgraded revolver is not realistic in the first place
least enjoyed to play is highly subjective and i would heavily disagree, he's by far my most played class for carrying low tour teams because he can actually fulfill multiple roles at once very well. decreased aggro while disguised...robots already never shoot at you while disguised minus the occasional bug or unlucky rocket. damage reduction sounds good though, tbh i think that should be a base spy buff, give him all the bonuses that invis has against status effects and damage on disguises as well. and timed disguise just sounds overpowered as shit. all i really want is for his upgrades to be a bit cheaper, a global buff to health regen to make it 100 credits instead of 200 would be amazing as well as dropping knife upgrade prices by maybe 50 credits per tick, at least on armor penetration. the biggest problem with spy is how low of an impact he usually makes without knife and sapper upgrades, that stuff is expensive and it makes it hard to justify getting resistances early on, which then causes the problem of the dead ringer not always working against the strongest attacks and just generally making it way harder to survive despite disguises being as good as they are in MvM. I find that using the kunai for at least the first 3 waves massively helps with this, but it's still something i'd like to see made a little more forgiving. Regardless i love playing spy and will often take any excuse i can to pick him
@@medicgaming9117 i quite like the idea of critstab as it would give more of an incentive for crits on kill upgrades, but explosive backstab is a HUGE nono, with how free a single backstab is that's just way too much reward for way too little effort. horrible idea. free uber canteen on backstab is also dumb, those 2 upgrades would take any sense of skill out of playing spy and make him brainless.
Sniper quite ironically doesn't have the highest skill ceiling, he has the highest aim ceiling, other then the abylity to aim well he really doesn't have much room to upgrade with skill, spots where snipers are good are not difficult to find, he has almost nothing that makes him bard to use effectively other then his rifle
@@usdepartmentoftreasuryinte6052 In normal gamemode sniper may be hard to play, but in MvM all he need to do is to shoot Big Slow Robots in the head for entire wave, It's not actually THAT hard compared to what for example demo needs to know to be effective
@@nyxo7 A lot of demo skill after a certain point is just knowing where and when to put stickies, which if you’re only playing the valve missions its fairly easy to just use existing wave knowledge and memorize important sticky locations.

The reasoning you gave for big rock is amazing but just for curiosity's sake i'd still like to know why wave 666 wasn't even considered in the selection. Like sure it's just re-skinned coaltown but it sends a LOT more of robots and the speedrun world record there is 19 minutes iirc.
@@andreasnussbaum5409 I would assume he didn't consider it because a Sniper can't reliably cover the entire area. The achievement is only for the kills an individual player can get, which means that an achievement hunter wants to be hogging as many kills as possible. On Coaltown, a Sniper can't singlehandedly cover the spawn points, and without a Big Rock to hide on, he can't just camp. Therefore, he'll also need a team to protect him as he gets his kills, which means kills will be spread out among more people, the schedules of those people may not overlap, and the Sniper may have trouble sniping while he dodges explosions. Bigrock avoids all of that. There are less robots, but the Sniper can hog all of them to himself, only needs 1 teammember, and doesn't need to worry about dodging. It's the perfect place.
this would actually be pretty dope talk about the different types of giant robots. I got a ton of tours in mostly on 2c and on mecha and gear grinder there's a lot of the icons on the waves that I have no clue what they are.
I was curious how close I was to this achievement so I checked the other day. I just finished my 171st tour on 2c and probably have another 30 tours from the other missions and I'm only at like 65,000. I am about halfway on t-1000000 though.
Explosive headshots are literally just the sniper version of the gas passer, yet he gets no hate for it. People might argue that it takes "skill" but not really. All you have to do is aim down a choke point at roughly head height and just spam m1 while remaining 500000000 km away from the action. At least pyro has to put himself in danger to use the gas passer
My man Soldier with Beggar's bazooka not only takes care of most of the low health robots but stuns bigs robots as well While providing team with buffs to the team also being at frontline Now people can say you just spam the rockets which is true but you also help the team while doing it and it doesn't always work Sometimes needing to take things head on or acting as a stoppage if most of your team just suddenly died
I mean the Gas is by no means innocent, not by a long shot but if it gets raked over the coals for being overpowered, Sniper should be right there with it.
So counter points: - Full powered explosive headshots are more expensive than gas passer upgrade - Gas passer CAN be used from a safer distance where the bots won't see you well when you use it - You only have to be vaguely accurate because it's an AoE weapon - Gas passer can catch a group of robots for an amount of time once it's used, rather than having to take another shot, because it's affecting the area for longer than when first thrown - Not sure if agro is being taken into account here as well That being said, I have no problem with the gas passer personally. But yes, it does take more skill to headshot than to throw something to a 100 square foot area.
You'd be surprised at how erratic the robot movements can be in practice, granted I'm a sniper main that doesn't actually use explosive headshot, but still
6:43 I disagree with Sniper having the highest skill ceiling. You do need some good aim but compared to what other classes have do in combat, Sniper's playstyle is simple. Now, simple is not equal to easy. After all, you still need to land those headshots if you want to kill people across the map. But I feel like someone like Medic, who also needs good aim with his crossbow, has a higher skill ceiling for the amount of multitasking he has to do. I'm not trying to downplay main Sniper players. Sniper takes some good skill and aim, I can not deny that. I just don't agree with Sniper being the class with the highest skill ceiling because I feel like he is less dynamic than other characters. Maybe I'm wrong but that's why everyone has their own opinions about stuff
I think you might be mixing up skill floor and skill ceiling. Skill ceiling has to do with maximum potential, while skill floor is about the minimum needed to play well. There's no such thing as needing anything when it comes to the skill ceiling, that's for the skill floor.
@@dispentryporter8621 Maybe with Sniper I might be mixing both a bit. But that's probably because both skill floor and skill ceiling for Sniper are related to the same thing. And that is over all knowing how to aim. The difference is that one is just good at long range while the other one can even delete you at mid-range with a quickscope, even if you are a trolldier in the air or a Scout trying to mess the Sniper's aim with your movement. There are other areas to cover about a high skill ceiling Sniper like constally looking over different zones to spot enemies using different paths so they don't get the jump on you (Or spot other Snipers), knowing who to target first to help your team, being aware of your surroundings, constally being in the move if able, etc. But to make things short, both a low skill and a high skill Sniper will be bounded to their aim no matter what. Also, isn't this "There's no such thing as needing anything when it comes to the skill ceiling" a bit contradictory? You will need to know the basics and know how to improve after that. So yeah, you will be needing the knowledge about how to improve and the practice to reach that effectiveness
Yeah honestly compared to the other classes Sniper might be on the lower end of the skill ceiling. Its about positioning and aim but like... almost every other class needs this as well in their skill set. The only outlier is heavy that requires tracking instead which is so similar that people will argue with me that its also just pure aiming. In terms of Skill ceiling Engi and Medic are two top contenders because they need game sense to manage their entire team. And when it comes to the absolute highest obtainable skill ceiling the class that requires more mastery of so many elements then any other class its actually Pyro of all people. Lets compare the learnsets for sniper and pyro shall we? Sniper learnset involves: -knowing the speed at which classes move -aim for heads -positioning -Quick scopes Pyro learnset involves **inhales**: -regular spy checking -flare jumping -straving -flare punching -shotgun aim -leading aim -positioning -*airblasting*, which involves the travel speed of each projectiles and then also aiming that projectile back at the enemy which gives pyro the entire Aim-learn-set of: Huntsmans Sniper, Soldier, Demo, Rescue Ranger engi and Crossbow Medic -This also involves learning how to Rocketjump AND Pipejump Airblasting alone gives Pyro's sooooo much to master that it is impossible to master all of the projectiles and actually use it in a match.
@@rayzuke1232 You make pretty fair arguments here. Compared to Sniper, the amount of crap you need to master as Pyro to reach the maximum effectiveness is just... Too much. Like, you need to learn how to be defensive with Pyro, agressive with Pyro and finally, supportive with Pyro. Then embrace all of that and apply those three things at the same time depending on what is your team doing. Also, it hurts me to admit it as a Heavy main but you are right about his skill ceiling. But I blame that mostly to his lack of options. He doesn't have a way to make high jumps like other classes to take enemies by surprise or a range option to finish off an enemy trying to run away thanks to the bullet spread of his weapons. You can get a bit creative with Heavy like jumping from a high place and land next to a distracted enemy (The assassin Heavy is my favorite meme strategy next to Ham Heavy xD). But that's nearly the same as jumping around a corner with Heavy and turning the enemy in front of you into cheese. Sadly, your best weapon with Heavy besides your great DPS and HP is the element of surprise. Something that other classes like Pyro or Demo can capitalize a lot more from.
Nice to see more knowledge being spread about bot nav. 's Always been a bit of an obscure topic. Personally, I'm at about...400k or so bots killed, over a considerable amount of time. Not that I mind, community missions are simply my bread, butter, and sprinkles.
@mikays7059 clicking a button a million times isn't hard it's tedious, but if you had to win a 1v1 vs the best player you could do it first time in 5 minutes or never.
Explosive headshot is very well known to be broken by the same community that banned Gas Passer but it requires even some skill and Sniper would be useless without it. So it stays and we have to wait for Valve to nerf it. Sydney Sleeper was actually fine alternative before it stopped applying Jarate aoe on headshot.
@@clarencehemphill3403 Tbf I much prefer Pyro having good AoE than Sniper. Sniper as a class wasn't designed for AoE, and massively suffers from being broken once he's given it.

@@veganlife1710 It doesnt take any skill to shoot any robot on the head ,they are predictable and giants are even easier becuase they move even more slow and they are big And for the fast robots, you got jarate that reloads pretty quickly (+ammo canteen) So yeah, totally not high skill at all, not that even mvm or tf2 itself was designed with such high skill base in mind
"Metal massacre is the hardest achievement in the entirety of TF2" I'm fairly certain the ones that are literally unobtainable are a lot harder. Gonna be honest.
Sort of agree with you. I agree that taking long to do an achievement due to monotony/sheer size≠hardest but I disagree that there are "literally unobtainable" achievements in Tf2. It wasn't long ago(I think in 2018?) i gained all achievements 100% legit with no SAM required(I did remember using givemeall command but it didn't actually affect most of the low % achievements. For example the 100,000 youtube views achievement is actually possible to gain without SAM by submitting the video or you can just submit any video and edit the view count in files lol. Sure this particular one might eventually turn out to be 100% unobtainable after youtube is gone but I think you'll still be able to get it via the file manipulation (I don't consider this worse than SAM since it's technically not cheating)
technically "unobtainable" is something else than "hard" since "hard" means that it is still technically possible but then again hard can also be argued to not mean time consuming which is what this achievement mostly is
Watching this video made me check my progress on Metal Massacre and I realized that I'm only 20% completion for this achievement. I have killed a total of 200,075 robots ever since I starting playing Mann Vs. Machine back in 2020 and a gdeat deal of that is counting with community servers with custom missions.
this achievement can be whipped through in a couple of hours with scream fortresses version of mvm wave 666 with about 10 thousand robots and there are no breaks so the easiest way to do it is to grind wave 666 with friends
this video popped up in my home page yestarday and for some reason I clicked on it. I have played tf2 as a free user playing just casual and really loved the game, but it was long ago, I stopped playing for a long time since than whatching this video reignited the love I once had for tf2 and I did as any sane person would do: I speedran all your videos and am now anxious to arrive home from a trip to play it again thank you man, from the bottom of my heart

If there's only one giant left however, you SHOULD full charge in between shots (similar DPS but less ammo-eating). But the health regen is good for ignoring the chip damage (due to high aggro) and not need to constantly get to a healthpack.

I'm obectivelly starting to think jump onto the botfarm, or even making one from scratch, new map included would be faster
The question is, what wave out of the big rock missions has the most robots? You could theoretically take out most of the bots, and reset the wave by letting them deliver the bomb
It's probably faster to just clear out the mission rather than wait for one slow af bot to deliver the bomb and go through constant set up periods every wave reset.
No becuase you would have to wait the robot to cross the entire map to plant the bomb Robots become slower if they carry the bomb For the challenge is just loss of time

I've been wanting to get back into MvM so these videos are great information for people who haven't played in a long time, not just new players. A little worried about trying to solo queue with how toxic the community seems to be now, though.
Fair enough! Have an amazing day. But, I do think there might be an extremely small argument for pyro being the choice with explode on ignite negating resistances and killing medics efficiently, so no Uber, so no invincibility, so more kills. But, in the end I have to admit sniper would be better 9/10 times.
I admit I grinded out every single achievement in the game, by hand, but this? Yea, i cheated. What did you expect? 1 million robots is such an insanely high requirement
I have a very intimate relationship with playing Sniper on MvM, especially considering that 9 out of 10 games people would kick you from the match if you picked Sniper. I mained Sniper for the entirety of my career in TF2, I understood how powerful and deadly Sniper was, often out damaging Heavies and Soldiers, most of which were the class who's players would try to kick me for picking Sniper, and giving me an ultimatum of either switching immediately, or get kicked after the first few rounds if you don't perform. Even after all the fluff, I'd still pay for a Standalone MvM.
When is soldier a problem? MVM players are the biggest whiny babies when it comes to team comp. Be happy with the mini crits and rocket specialist stopping the mega scouts.

I can even send you links to DPS equations I made on Desmos for pretty much all weapons/combos that are viable for tankbusting
To put it simply, a regular match is two teams - RED and BLU - comprised of human players fighting over a payload, an intelligence briefcase, or capture points. Mann Vs Machine matches put the RED team - the human players - against the BLU team - AI-controlled robots - in a wave-based mode where you have to kill every bot in every wave, while making sure they don't deliver a bomb to your base, and collecting money dropped from destroyed robots to purchase upgrades during the match (you can't do this in normal, non-MvM matches). Finish every wave and the RED human players win. If the BLU bots successfully deliver the bomb, you have to restart the current wave.
This is the kind of stuff I love. Super detailed breakdowns from incredible game knowledge for a crazy result. Too bad most promoted content on TH-cam doesn't come close to this quality
fun fact: another game(Payday 2, a similar horde shooter) has a skill called "graze" which functions similar to explosive headshot but it instead has a cylinder AoE snipers in payday are the most powerful weapons in the game. even LMGs can't keep up
Well here I was about to brag it took me half a year playing that mode, but as soon as you mentioned bot farm I got flashbacks of joining exactly those ... so ...
The issue with getting this achievement is that you need to be on a game with lots of robots and you need to be the one that kills the most out of your entire team.
Imagine if BIGROCK had a special version of it like with coal town with Ghost Town, with the exact same mechanics but on a different map. I would love that
I greatly disagree about demoman. you only considered stickies and not gybrid-knight with stock launcher which is absolutely great for anything while being relatively cheap because of sword's health and speed boost and chargin targe's resistances
"There are die hard mvm players with thoasands of tours who don't have this achievement" Me, who hasn't got a single tour completed and has played both official and custom community mvm servers and has the achievement: Huh... ain't that something? Update: Nvm, I mixed up the achievements. It was T-1,000,000, not Metal Massacre. Disregard my post.
You could probably get that number even lower if you wanted to. Instead of playing the entire mission, why not only play one wave? By letting one bot go at the end of whatever round is the most kill-heavy to capture the bomb, that round can be repeated via the retry that you are then put into. This would allow you to effectively skip all of the lower kill count waves and only repeat the one that is the most profitable. You'd have to substract some more time because the game forces you to repurchase your upgrades, but that is more than made up for by the gains of not doing the previous rounds.

Like Healing Mastery, it’s a collection of minor upgrades that all improve with each tick, in this case being: Decreased speed reduction while disguised, decreased aggro during disguise and right after removing disguise, and increased damage reduction while being disguised.
*Timed Disguise*
Instead of losing your disguise right away, one tick of this will provide a timer that drops your disguise at the end, and additional ticks will extend the timer. The timer is reset if you get a backstab while still disguised.
These could both be combined too.
That's less important than buffing him in regular Tf2
Ubercharge backstab (uber to escape) Disguise on backstab (a couple upgrades to make yer better) explosive backstab (like explosive headshot) and finally Critstab (crits always backstab)
first, a rollback on how the DR worked before jungle inferno. the ability to reduce death times just hasn't been there, and now that the damage reduction is also gone, a giant will just blast trought him even with the clock on
arguably, giving the other clocks instant hiding would boost them against non-explosive units
shield on backstab, the big weackness is that, even if you get 2, or in the utterly best case scenario, 3 backstabs on bots, you are still uncovered, back to the enemy, at meele range. some of the other effect of the knives just evaporate as you flat out cannot chainstab. another small addition should be a rework on giants defense against unupgraded knifes, IMHO it should do a flat amount of minimum damage, things it doesn't actually do untill upgraded
third, revolver impact on tanks; in theory a fully upgraded revolver will make significant dents in the tank, but an upgraded revolver is not realistic in the first place
least enjoyed to play is highly subjective and i would heavily disagree, he's by far my most played class for carrying low tour teams because he can actually fulfill multiple roles at once very well. decreased aggro while disguised...robots already never shoot at you while disguised minus the occasional bug or unlucky rocket. damage reduction sounds good though, tbh i think that should be a base spy buff, give him all the bonuses that invis has against status effects and damage on disguises as well. and timed disguise just sounds overpowered as shit. all i really want is for his upgrades to be a bit cheaper, a global buff to health regen to make it 100 credits instead of 200 would be amazing as well as dropping knife upgrade prices by maybe 50 credits per tick, at least on armor penetration. the biggest problem with spy is how low of an impact he usually makes without knife and sapper upgrades, that stuff is expensive and it makes it hard to justify getting resistances early on, which then causes the problem of the dead ringer not always working against the strongest attacks and just generally making it way harder to survive despite disguises being as good as they are in MvM.

Clearly you haven't played beta MVM back when sniper robots could headshot :P
The reasoning you gave for big rock is amazing but just for curiosity's sake i'd still like to know why wave 666 wasn't even considered in the selection. Like sure it's just re-skinned coaltown but it sends a LOT more of robots and the speedrun world record there is 19 minutes iirc.
I was wondering about this too
Because 666 is not in mann up, but hell, its kinda hard to complete it if you get a shit team
@@andreasnussbaum5409 weezy said mann up AND bootcamp
@@FlakkerDPS youre right, he did say it... then im not sure why he didnt consider it
@@andreasnussbaum5409 I would assume he didn't consider it because a Sniper can't reliably cover the entire area.
Idea: do a tier list on the different class of robots on best to worst
this would actually be pretty dope talk about the different types of giant robots. I got a ton of tours in mostly on 2c and on mecha and gear grinder there's a lot of the icons on the waves that I have no clue what they are.

I've never even played MVM, I barely got 100 hours on TF2 from 5 Years ago. Your vids are just really good.
you should give it another go
If there wasn’t a reason on why Sniper is such a powerful and possibly overpowered class, now there is
Explosive headshots are literally just the sniper version of the gas passer, yet he gets no hate for it. People might argue that it takes "skill" but not really. All you have to do is aim down a choke point at roughly head height and just spam m1 while remaining 500000000 km away from the action. At least pyro has to put himself in danger to use the gas passer
Pyro can be dead and still use the gas passer
My man Soldier with Beggar's bazooka not only takes care of most of the low health robots but stuns bigs robots as well
While providing team with buffs to the team
also being at frontline
Now people can say you just spam the rockets which is true but you also help the team while doing it and it doesn't always work
Sometimes needing to take things head on or acting as a stoppage if most of your team just suddenly died
I mean the Gas is by no means innocent, not by a long shot but if it gets raked over the coals for being overpowered, Sniper should be right there with it.
So counter points:
- Full powered explosive headshots are more expensive than gas passer upgrade
- Gas passer CAN be used from a safer distance where the bots won't see you well when you use it
- You only have to be vaguely accurate because it's an AoE weapon
- Gas passer can catch a group of robots for an amount of time once it's used, rather than having to take another shot, because it's affecting the area for longer than when first thrown
- Not sure if agro is being taken into account here as well
That being said, I have no problem with the gas passer personally.

Sniper learnset involves:
-knowing the speed at which classes move
-aim for heads
-positioning
-Quick scopes
Pyro learnset involves **inhales**:
-regular spy checking
-flare jumping
-straving
-flare punching
-shotgun aim
-leading aim
-positioning
-*airblasting*, which involves the travel speed of each projectiles and then also aiming that projectile back at the enemy which gives pyro the entire Aim-learn-set of: Huntsmans Sniper, Soldier, Demo, Rescue Ranger engi and Crossbow Medic
-This also involves learning how to Rocketjump AND Pipejump
Airblasting alone gives Pyro's sooooo much to master that it is impossible to master all of the projectiles and actually use it in a match.
Something that other classes like Pyro or Demo can capitalize a lot more from.
how much do you play sniper
Nice to see more knowledge being spread about bot nav. 's Always been a bit of an obscure topic.
Personally, I'm at about...400k or so bots killed, over a considerable amount of time. Not that I mind, community missions are simply my bread, butter, and sprinkles.
It's not the hardest it's the longest to get

Patience and dedication is somewhat of a skill.

@mikays7059 clicking a button a million times isn't hard it's tedious, but if you had to win a 1v1 vs the best player you could do it first time in 5 minutes or never.
I would argue that this is the hardest given the commitment and the amount of time required just to do it.

No becuase you would have to wait the robot to cross the entire map to plant the bomb
Robots become slower if they carry the bomb

Ah yes the one achievement I don’t have after YEARS of playing almost only Mann vs machine
Sorry I'm new to TF2, what's the difference between a regular match and MvM? Thanks
