- This week we're having a wee look at the 15th Century Fa'side Castle. This is a small castle with quite a bit of history and is found just outside Tranent, East Lothian. Some locals also say the castle is...haunted!
Hope you enjoy the video, and if not already done so, can you please like the video and subscribe to our channel. it is free, it costs nothing. This will encourage us to continue making videos of the local areas and posting them on TH-cam for your enjoyment.
Thanks for watching.

Lovely footage and very educational. A pleasure to have met and spoken with you at New Lanark this evening (Sunday).
Hi bud, yeah that was me. Thank you! Was great meeting you. Hoping next time I visit the falls there will be…some falling! 😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Superb quality video. As a non driving East Lothian resident, It’s wonderful to see these locations and learn of their history. ❤
Many thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. There are many more on my channel, and many more to come. 👍👍
Im pleased to know that the castle was lovingly restored from ruin and demolition even if it is private.
And it sits in a beautiful part of the country, fantastic views over the forth.
In 1984, a passing motorist on the A1 phoned into the Fire Brigade from his car phone that Fa Side Castle was on fire. We were turned out and from the A1 we saw ( 2 of us) that the castle was " well alight" flames coming out of yhe windows. We drove round to the castle via Tranent and called for back up. When we arrived at the Castle there was no flames nothing. Scary. That was 3 people who saw the fire. Personally I don't believe in ghosts and hoolets BUT.
That's a fascinating story, thanks for sharing.
I remember going up looking about in castle nearly 60 years ago. We looked under a collapsed stone staircase as there was supposed to be a lion buried there and we thought could find its skull. There were no trees I remember. Was said to be haunted by the green lady! Lots of changes? No carberry bing and pit , also old Wallyford bing and buildings gone. My grandad worked in old Smeaton pit. Me 6 months in new smeaton pit till they closed it and transferred to monktonhall colliery. Who could have thought we’d be talking about it all these years on?
I bet that has changed a fair bit since you last paid the place a visit, hopefully the video brought back happy memories.
I remember as a bairn playing in the castle ruins ….looking for the “green lady” ….never found her but we had a lot of fun
Private house now, the good old days were better.
Good educational video bud. Regarding the ghost. Myself and my pal (James Oddy) both witnessed the ghost very early one summers morning. We were walking through the fields from the south and saw something on the left hand rop side of the ruin as we approached. I watched it as we got closer. I asked Jimmy if he could see what I was looking at He had been watching it as well. We both shot past the castle home to Wallyford.
Love a ghost story. Several of my videos have ghosts attached. Was filming down at Crighton Castle which is reported to have a ghost on a horse, could have sworn there was a horse on the track behind me, when I turned round, there was nothing. Not posted this video yet, few weeks away.
Love it Dronemam, keep up the great work.
You give me a wee bit of scotland here in Adelaide South Australia ❤❤
Thanks Derek, just glad you enjoy the content.
I stumbled upon this gem when searching for information to add to my father’s bloodlines. Upon immigration my father’s families name got changed from fa’side/falside to Faucett. I can hear why now :)
Glad you enjoyed the content, TH-cam is a great place for finding things out, only glad this video was helpful. 👍
Great video! i really enjoyed this. It's said that there is a secret underground tunnel connecting Fa'side castle with Tranent Tower. ❤😍🏰 🐎 ⚔ 👑 📸 🏰 🐎 ⚔ 👑 🏰😍❤
That's correct, Tranent tower is now on my radar, hopefully will publish that soon. Glad you enjoyed.
I remember gaun there when I was a wee bairn in the very late 50’s early 60’s when it was just an auld wreck o a building . Nice tae see it all done up. Coming back up tae the Pans in twa weeks for a short visit. Might get ma drone up anaw 😉😉
Great to hear from a fellow drone pilot, I will have several more videos on line over the next few weeks from the Pans, hopefully you enjoy these to.

Do you use Nigel Tranter’s multi-volume series on Scottish castles & tower houses for your research? His historical novels about Scotland are excellent, too. Greetings from Nova Scotia. 🇨🇦
No I don't, but on saying that, his name came up on one of my latest videos, the history behind Luffness House, he was a regular visitor to the house when hew was alive.
It's not a castle it's a fortified house. The most recent owner has been forced by the courts to sell it to recover fines imposed by the court
Agreed, it is a fortified keep or house, but it has always been known as Fa'side Castle or over the centuries as Fawside, Falside, Ffauside, Fauxside, or Fawsyde Castle. Thanks for your comment. 👍
I was put off by the loud , annoying, music
I am sorry to hear that, but hopefully it will not put you off the rest of my videos, thanks for your comment.
