It's funny, I've been crying for more G1 Decepticons, and then I saw this guy and said no thanks. That being said, after this review....I might actually get him. Your argument of him being big chonky tank has won me over.
my main complaint is for some reason they wont let you swap out his tank cannon for tip top like they did with the G1 original. for the life of me i cant figure out why as its a detachable section as a whole anyway and would need very little tooling. i know this lad has his flaws, but i love the bot mode and head sculpt and i LOVE the old school targetmasters .
I think he's great as far as a G1 update. His colors are closer to the cartoon than the original toy or the TR version. Yes the tank is practically a brick, but so was his original toy. But as always, YMMV. Also friction hinges will pop loose if they're moved the wrong way, lol.
Thanks for the video! I really want to like this figure, because I also dig Quake's color scheme. The Legacy Skullgrin DNA gives me heartburn. I love Legacy Skullgrin in robot mode when it's sitting on a shelf. The minute I pick it up, it bothers me. The minute I begin to transform it, I hate it with every fiber of my being. The friction hinges, particularly in the legs, are the reason why. Seeing those same joints give you trouble in this video made me sad.

The reworked transformation is wild. Could use some gap filling but what a clever retool.
