As someone in a hurry to complete my Skybound shelf, I personally have no issues with getting it since Soundwave isn’t in the list of 2025 figures, and I have no idea what position I will be in two years from now. I’ll either be able to afford an upgrade in 2 years, or won’t and will still have a Soundwave in Generations scale.
I’m also building a Skybound shelf (kinda) I only have wheeljack and jazz and have 86 prime pre ordered. So I’m planning getting this soundwave and maybe that comic edition shockwave and getting 86 devastator and 86 megatron. I’m also probably gonna get either siege or kingdom Magnus or an 86 commander reissue. I’ll also probably get 86 arced and legacy elita 1.

Ive just come to accept it at this point. At this point, Leader either means slightly bigger figure, or Voyager+ with extra accessories, like we’re seeing here. They can keep it under the same price points already in most stores. My local Walmart doesn’t even have the shelf for Commander Class figures, nor Titans. Not even the retro reissue figures anymore. (I miss Toys R Us so much 😢)

Also he actually scales not too bad. He's always been smaller unless they got cheap and re-tooled an awkward mold in which collectors complained then too.
I went with the Nemesis version of Soundwave... The reason being is it looks like different plastic. The Legacy one looks like it's using the same plastic that the Netflix one used, that turned yellow/brown.

I picked up the 86 Blaster that looks like it's also using slightly different plastic. I really wish we knew exactly what made the old plastic turn brown... As an experiment, I was able to retrobright Kingdom Blaster, and some of my other bots that browned... It worked for a short time.... then they turned yellow/brown again.. I'm hoping to get my hands on the re-release of Origins Cybertron Bumblebee because he's also browning too! I was able to retrobright it, but it shortly went back to the brown color.. :/ My Hauler figure is turning into brown lettuce green spots as well. :/ OH and don't get me started on both releases of Cyclonus :(..
@@DisconnectHack I compared the two, it's a different shade of plastic. It's more white than grayish white. It's definitely not the same colored.plastic for the gray parts. The gray parts are not painted. Only the forearms, and those never discolored, other than the swing out gun bits mounded on them.

Companies nowdays: Ignores customer compaints about shoddy, yellowing product and expects them to spend leader class price to replace their defective product. Completely agree with you! It was such bad business for them not to release an official statement recalling any affected products. They are just mainly worried about the $$$
And then they'll make you buy the SS86 figure in a few years just to get Laserbeak, because including Buzzsaw in a Soundblaster rerelease would have made too much sense.

Possibly an unpopular opinion but this has always been one of my favourite soundwave iterations. Nice transformation. Every element is nice. Maybe feet could be better. But other than that. Spot on.
I have the Siege weird spaceship Soundwave but haven’t gotten a tape deck one yet. That said, they will definitely do an 86 Soundwave so I’ll probably wait for him. However I really want those tapes !! Crap, I think they got me….
I agree. If you can wait or if you are in a tight budget, wait for the SS86 release (you may even see huge discount since it's close to the holidays. But if you're me and you've been salivating to get your 1st cassette version of Soundwave, then order to your heart's desire. 😅
Like SS86 Optimus, I expect SS86 Soundwave to look incredible but be too overly complex for my taste. Just as I'm sticking with the Earthrise Optimus mold because of the simpler transformation, I'll probably be sticking with the Netflix Soundwave mold for the same reason.
Sold off my spare Netflix one to make way for this as this has a better paint job as got the gold trim on the chest instead of yellow paint & also the red trim on the cannon/gun - neither of my Netflix ones had that yellowing plastic.
It's not just sunlight that causes plastic yellowing, it's heat. That's why the sun causes it in the first place, cuz of the heat. So if a room is hot too, it'll happen
I remember not knowing he was a hard to find figure for the Netflix show. But I remember finding him before my graduation (class 2021) and Walmart said he costed like $20, but when I went to check him out, he was $40. I still bought him and watching videos of people saying he was hard to find. And to this day I still have him, but with some yellowing
That was similar to my experience. He was the only one on the shelves worth a damn to me at that point and I picked him up for full price. I most definitely am going to get this figure for the additional minibots but the main figure I already have.
Great review PrimeVsPrime!! As great as SS86 Soundwave might be, I'd first buy a core class individual Buzzsaw figure first and foremost! :D Keep on being amazing.
First of all, the real selling point to me is the cassettes, since I already have the Netflix Soundwave, and mine hasn't yellowed anywhere that much. Yes, I agree, it's very likely we'll get a Studio Series version of Soundwave, but it's also possible, looking at that Studio Series Blaster you love, which is a straight repaint of the Kingdom Blaster, that an SS86 Soundwave will be the same. But who can say if Studio Series will release a Buzzsaw -- who was not in the movie -- let alone a toy accurate Frenzy? Especially since the Core class releases seem to be tapering off outside of pack-ins. Better safe then sorry if the cassettes matter to you.
I pre-order mine regardless. I get what you say about re-releases but within that time there's been so many re-releases there's been like zero for this mold so that's telling. Grab him on PO while you can, they never EVER go all in with distribution on Soundwave in particular.
What's nuts is you needed to get BOTH the Netflix release and this to get Earth Laserbeak and Buzzsaw together. Fortunately, I did. And I need a spare Soundwave to represent on both 84 and 86 shelves. No worries about the height. He's usually been shorter than Blaster. I'm going to be too busy replacing Megatron and Devastator next year.
I like the Siege figure. He's a good 'Cybertronian combat mode' or something, with him being covered in blasters and having a space bomber alt mode. But I'd like to get an Earth mode Soundwave as well.
Hate to say it, but as it is the Earthrise Soundwave, who comes with three casettes, one of which is only exclusive to this release, and the other two being impossible to track down, I'll be picking this guy up.
My guess is he'll either be a slight repaint or a Blaster retool. But you can bet that the chest door will be opaque so you can't actually see what casette is inside him, because Hasbro hates fun.

Very fortunately, although my Netflix Soundwave has yellowed it hasn't to the degree of PrimeVsPrime's so I don't need to replace it, but if you're a collector who likes the WFC collection and you missed him the first time around he's a good shot at a second chance.
Yeah, had this guy on preorder for a but now. I’d buy it for the cassettes alone. Also, this is the exact same Soundwave that came in the Nemesis Bridge Dramatic Capture set that you said was awesome.
In my opinion, for the Leader pricepoint, they should've done one (Or all) of these three things: Filled in the forearms, removed the arm kibble, or give him wrist articulation. Then again, they should have removed the arm kibble ANYWAYS because they're useless for the new mold.
Great figure, but I was honestly hoping for a Legacy TFP or TFA Soundwave. Or a blend (kind of like what they did with Prowl and Bulkhead). In any case TFA Soundwave deserves a way larger figure (preferably in scale with Bulkhead). But this figure is tempting enough to buy…
I'm getting him cause.....Buzzsaw, I'll give the Rumble and Ravage to one of my nephews as he's only 6 but I got him into Transformers. Also I think some fans are happy as this Rumble looks like Comic/toy color Frenzy while the SS86 version is cartoon Rumble
Studio Series 86 Soundwave is inevitable, but we know he’s not coming in 2025 so he’s 2026 at the earliest. I think I’m okay with dropping $55 if I’m not going to buy another Soundwave for two years.
I could accept that they reused the Siege mold, but for the leader price point I would have preferred improvements such as gap filers, a rotation for the hand and articulated fingers a little.Improvement on general joints and less details to recall the g1 model, the cassettes are quite good even if (always for the leader price point) I would have preferred a bicep joint for Rumble

I can never have to many soundwaves especially when they finally give you the 3 main tapes. Plus, I missed the first one from Netflix. Hasbro loves to make a decent version of a popular figure and then make it almost impossible to find!
They'll do an SS86, and it should fix those forearms. I'll wait for that. Heck, I wouldn't put it past Hasbro to do a second SS86 Starscream, non-coronation, where they do more than just recycle the Earthrise mold.
I got the dramatic capture Soundwave from Takara but I have to pick this pack up for the Buzzsaw . I'll be keeping buzzsaw and selling off the rest in this leader class pack
I mostly want this to replace my yellowed Netflix Soundwave, as well as Buzzsaw. I am quite sure by 2026 they will announce (perhaps even release) a more accurate SS86 Soundwave.
The main reason I'd get this one would be for Buzzsaw and only if it's at a discount. Hopefully most people are waiting for a SS86 version and the price will drop a bit. I was lucky enough to get a Netflix version at the time and went through the trouble of collecting the other cassettes, I'm happy with the siege versions of Rumble and Frenzy so I gave the SS86 versions a pass (though they are cool.) I think they should have used the Siege version of Frenzy for this pack since that one's actually meant to go with this Soundwave.
So I'd be surprised if an SS 86 Soundwave isn't on the docket for next year. They just released the SS86 Rumble and Frenzy. One of which was repainted for this release.
If it was aa guarantee that 86 would come with all the casettes, i would probably skip this, but i want a rumble and dont want to drop 50 on ebay for him alone
The seeker mold needs an upgrade more badly. But this isnt far behind, the upgraded ss86 version better just have all the cassettes and as you pointed out, an improved ravage as he looks nothing like his cartoon counterpart.
I had visions of what this Legacy Soundwave was going to be: A retool of Blaster. Rerelease of Titans Return Soundwave in more accurate colors. Cyberverse Soundwave, new mold UT/Cybertron Soundwave, new mold Machine Wars Soundwave, a reuse of the Earthrise Doubledealer retool with a Ratbat mode and some cock and bull story about them merging. Animated Soundwave, new mold with Ratbat and Laserbeak. Prime Soundwave, new mold But no we get the netflix one. I would like for a potential Studio Series figure to come with Battlemaster/Targetmaster Wingthing.

I found and bought the original 86 Rumble, and when I bought it, I had no idea that it would be so hard to find nowadays.
I don't mind waiting for an SS86 version. It's the reason I held off on the Earthrise Optimus reissue.

Hate to say it, but as it is the Earthrise Soundwave, who comes with three casettes, one of which is only exclusive to this release, and the other two being impossible to track down, I'll be picking this guy up.

I think they’ll make a brand new figure for sure!
My guess is he'll either be a slight repaint or a Blaster retool. But you can bet that the chest door will be opaque so you can't actually see what casette is inside him, because Hasbro hates fun.

Very fortunately, although my Netflix Soundwave has yellowed it hasn't to the degree of PrimeVsPrime's so I don't need to replace it, but if you're a collector who likes the WFC collection and you missed him the first time around he's a good shot at a second chance.

Yeah, had this guy on preorder for a but now. I’d buy it for the cassettes alone. Also, this is the exact same Soundwave that came in the Nemesis Bridge Dramatic Capture set that you said was awesome.
I know that Soundwave will come back in SS86, which I will wait for, but I kinda also wanted the Soundwave minions.
In my opinion, for the Leader pricepoint, they should've done one (Or all) of these three things:
Filled in the forearms, removed the arm kibble, or give him wrist articulation.
Then again, they should have removed the arm kibble ANYWAYS because they're useless for the new mold.
The original Blaster toy was HUGE compared to the orginal soundwave
Great figure, but I was honestly hoping for a Legacy TFP or TFA Soundwave. Or a blend (kind of like what they did with Prowl and Bulkhead). In any case TFA Soundwave deserves a way larger figure (preferably in scale with Bulkhead). But this figure is tempting enough to buy…

I'm getting him cause.....Buzzsaw, I'll give the Rumble and Ravage to one of my nephews as he's only 6 but I got him into Transformers. Also I think some fans are happy as this Rumble looks like Comic/toy color Frenzy while the SS86 version is cartoon Rumble
Now we need a 3 pack of Frenzy, Laserbeak, and ratbat or a new mold for Ravage.
I just hope the plastic is not gonna turn green. Id be happy to enter a competition to show that i have the most color change on my Netflix soundwave
Studio Series 86 Soundwave is inevitable, but we know he’s not coming in 2025 so he’s 2026 at the earliest. I think I’m okay with dropping $55 if I’m not going to buy another Soundwave for two years.

After this review, I think I might skip this and go for the comic book edition Grimlock instead

I could accept that they reused the Siege mold, but for the leader price point I would have preferred improvements such as gap filers, a rotation for the hand and articulated fingers a little.Improvement on general joints and less details to recall the g1 model, the cassettes are quite good even if (always for the leader price point) I would have preferred a bicep joint for Rumble

Somehow i feel comfortably enjoying the SS rotf Soundwave more than any ither Soundwave i bought (i gave them away leaving SS behind lol)
I can never have to many soundwaves especially when they finally give you the 3 main tapes. Plus, I missed the first one from Netflix. Hasbro loves to make a decent version of a popular figure and then make it almost impossible to find!
That Buzzsaw looks gorgeous. I hope they release him again another way.

They'll do an SS86, and it should fix those forearms. I'll wait for that. Heck, I wouldn't put it past Hasbro to do a second SS86 Starscream, non-coronation, where they do more than just recycle the Earthrise mold.

I got the dramatic capture Soundwave from Takara but I have to pick this pack up for the Buzzsaw . I'll be keeping buzzsaw and selling off the rest in this leader class pack
I mostly want this to replace my yellowed Netflix Soundwave, as well as Buzzsaw. I am quite sure by 2026 they will announce (perhaps even release) a more accurate SS86 Soundwave.
The main reason I'd get this one would be for Buzzsaw and only if it's at a discount. Hopefully most people are waiting for a SS86 version and the price will drop a bit.
I was lucky enough to get a Netflix version at the time and went through the trouble of collecting the other cassettes, I'm happy with the siege versions of Rumble and Frenzy so I gave the SS86 versions a pass (though they are cool.)
I think they should have used the Siege version of Frenzy for this pack since that one's actually meant to go with this Soundwave.
So I'd be surprised if an SS 86 Soundwave isn't on the docket for next year. They just released the SS86 Rumble and Frenzy. One of which was repainted for this release.
I always swore I’d keep to the legacy year one version, but a figure once so rare coming back with *more* cassettes? Makes it hard to resist.

The seeker mold needs an upgrade more badly. But this isnt far behind, the upgraded ss86 version better just have all the cassettes and as you pointed out, an improved ravage as he looks nothing like his cartoon counterpart.
I had visions of what this Legacy Soundwave was going to be:
A retool of Blaster.
Rerelease of Titans Return Soundwave in more accurate colors.
Cyberverse Soundwave, new mold
UT/Cybertron Soundwave, new mold
Machine Wars Soundwave, a reuse of the Earthrise Doubledealer retool with a Ratbat mode and some cock and bull story about them merging.
Animated Soundwave, new mold with Ratbat and Laserbeak.
Prime Soundwave, new mold
But no we get the netflix one.
I would like for a potential Studio Series figure to come with Battlemaster/Targetmaster Wingthing.
I have the Netflix version (not yellowed... yet) and will still get this one purely for Buzzsaw, my favorite Decepticon cassette.
Hopefully Transformers Studio Series 86 Soundwave will Entirely new Sculpt.
Or with the similar age of blaster (maybe by 12 months). It might just be a repaint of the same mold IF they do a SS86 version.

You just know this is going to be the only way to get Buzzsaw. Not in the 86 Movie, so no SS86 version likely. I'd definitely wait for the SS86 Soundwave otherwise, as have SS86 Rumble, and there's bound to be a (better) SS86 Ravage on the way too. Arrghhhh!!!
