I broke down when you said you were in a dark place because that’s exactly what I feel. It’s been so rough I am 7 weeks and mine started at 4 weeks I am down 8lbs so far. The hunger pains are annoying because I want to eat but I can’t and the hunger pains get so bad I run to the bathroom and throw up acid. I can’t wait to feel better 🙏🏼

You will eventually feel better. I felt in such a bad place around this time too, couldn’t get out of bed just would run throw up acid and not being able to keep even water down. I’m almost 19 weeks now and still sometimes will feel nauseous and throw up every once in a while but feeling much better . Hang in there it is really hard to go through this and no one understands why you’re feeling like this but hang in there it will get better. I was sick with my first the whole 38 weeks on and off and though it was bad. This time I have so many other symptoms slowing me down and making this pregnancy so hard.

Thanks for this video and sharing your experience. My wife is currently going through this severe nausea and commuting phase. She is in her week 13 now. This is our 2nd baby. She is a very lively and energetic person. Seeing her bedridden is deteriorating. I wish she will feel better by the end of first trimester.
It is hard for any ladies to go over this. Salute to all mothers who sustained and passed through this hell to bring another soul into earth. It needs immense courage and determination. Thank you all!

Hi. Im a father of a gorgeous baby girl who just turned 2 and my wife and I are currently pregnant with our second child. She has been diagnosed with Hyperemesis gravidarum and has been through, what i can only imagine as complete hell, as it has completely immobilized her from anything she desires to do. As if 13 years ago she was in a horrible car accident that broke her back and it has taken her years to get back to somewhat normal, so she is already fighting constant pain and after this diagnosis, I must say that I have never met a person who is as strong as she is. Now I am just here trying to learn as much as I can, to be able to make it manageable for her. To all of the wonderful women who go through this, I admire you and I really sympathize. I believe more men are learning about this and the ones I know (surprisingly 2) are actively involved in helping their families as they go through this. To wrap up my rambling, I will end with this, bless you all and happy holidays.

I only made it to 9 weeks before terminating. Puking was my first symptom. In those 9 weeks, I lost 19 pounds. I puked around 15 times daily. Fought with multiple doctors to get any anti-nausea meds. None of which helped anyway. They just kept telling me this was “the sign of a healthy pregnancy.” I have GERD and couldn’t keep down my medicine. I had to sleep in a recliner because every time I laid down, stomach acid just came out of my mouth. I cried constantly from the intense heart burn. I had horrible stomach pain from how hungry I was, I couldn’t even keep down water.
My husband was absolutely wonderful during this whole thing, yet I felt completely alone. I felt like I was a slave to my body, I wasn’t even involved in my life. I got so low. While sitting in a parking lot trying to decide what food my body could maybe tolerate, I cried and cried and told my husband I didn’t think I could do this anymore.
Never once did anyone mention the words Hyperemesis Gravidarum to me. I had never heard of it until my husband did research online. My doctors were never concerned until I came in for an appointment and told them I had terminated. It makes me sad how little this is illness is addressed.

Finally I found someone who has experienced exactly what I experience and is experiencing right now. Every word you said made so much sense because I feel that the world doesn't understand people with HG, and your work place is a gift from God, most of our employers never understand. We need to raise awareness about HG and hope that one day there won't be so much stigma but also that a cure will be found safe enough for both mother and baby.

I’m crying watching this, just hearing you describe how sick you felt and your symptoms. I’m on my 4th pregnancy currently and I can’t believe how sick I have been. I’m nauseous right now and hearing other peoples story is what’s distracting me right now as I lay in bed feeling like I’m on a boat. Some family has not been supportive and think it’s just me exaggerating. No! Crackers and ginger tea has not helped. Stay hydrated ladies, to whoever is reading this, stay strong. Fight through this. IV Fluids really made me live through HG. 🙏🏼 It was hell on Earth. I have never felt so lonely in my life. The non stop nausea, and the sensitivity to smells, was so traumatic. Not to mention the constipation 😌 I couldn’t even sit with my daughter (she was 2 at the time) When my husband picked her up from daycare, she used to smell so much of butter, because they had bread in the afternoon. 😮 I almost died. It was so devastating, not being able to hold your own baby.
7 years on, and I am never going to be the same person I was, before HG. I can’t eat certain food, Sounds and smells really triggers me, and I get so anxious when I feel nauseous.
metoclopramid did nothing for me. I also tried something called Emperal- I am from Denmark, so you might not have it in the UK ☺️ Ondansetron was the only thing that helped me just a little bit. I took Them from 15 weeks (I was only diagnosed with HG at 14 weeks) because Doctors kept saying it would stop in my first trimester 😒 And I took ondasetron until our daughter was 6 months, because I felt so sick even after.
I have had pregnancies after, that I had to terminate. I am not proud to admit it, but this was our reality. I have been diagnosed with PTSD, and HG is partly to blame.
I know your video is a year old, but still I wanted to let you know, that you are strong, for going through this nightmare ❤❤❤❤

Got 0 help I always heard the same put things on ur mouth that smelt or drink small sips! No I am on my second pregnancy and lost around 6kg and this time before pregnancy I was around 62kg so I am not small to death but lost weight. So my dr. Just gave me advice again and commented u probably lost weight but u are fine u are bot that small 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I get 0 help here in Sweden got a couple of tablets one didn’t help at all and second one made me feel I was going to dir! Week 15 and still suffering never got IV fluids even though Dr. Know that that may help stabilize our salt and help a bit with nausea so we can eat but nope! Get no help. And I swear I am so tired of having to explain to colleagues and people that I can’t eve stand more than 5min without feeling I am going to pass out 😔😔. Ooh my, I feel every bit of what you both stated here...
I have two kids. I have been pregnant 3 times ( the very first one in my country -Slovakia, just let me fully enjoy" whole course of this hellish sickness all the way from around 8weeks up to 15weeks "luckely" not whole pregnancy , until i misscaried around 16th week .., next two -different partner, Uk Scotland this scenario -2 stays in hospital revived with IVes....i remember that feeling of "somehow normal again" or atl east better and I was asking nurse why, and she ansewered, oh, yeah, that is simply just liquids we get into you.....heh that you are hungry, that it's painfull and you just can't get nothing down, just puking your own stomach out bleeeh...just the look on plain water made me go crazy...oh my goodness, just exactly how you described my dear heroes...
also they gave me some antisickness pills , which i puked out right after i swallow them, than they change it for injections
Now at my 46, when I said to myself I'm definetly done ( not louder enough in front of my man😬 ) here we ( i) go again... just registred with maternity services still in scotland, didn't actually throwing up but that presence of all day nausea is completely enough to feel like zombie...whatever outcome of this pregnancy gona be, it is not a "pleasure" of just to be sick in the morning...I think, who doesn't experience shittery of this type of pregnancy whatever it's been named,
people really can't phatom, not even women , who experienced some type of " sickness" discomfort just in certain part of day... this all day misery is beyond point, one can comprehend withouth to actually survive it.
To all women with experience of this:

First time pregnant. I suffered from this for months. It was the hardest time of my life. When i was 6 weeks pregnant started with being sick only in the evening, vomiting only 1 or 2 times per day. But when week 9 hit things escalated. My sense of smell was ridiculous, i couldnt stand the smell of food, my house, my husband, even myself. I could smell even when the neighbor was cooking or doing laundry. Nausea was present all day, exept when i was sleeping. I was 55 kg at the begining of pregnancy and in 3 weeks i was 45 kg. I was in the hospital 3 times in a month. Medication didnt help, nothing helped. I was scared, tired, i couldnt even take a shower, i hated the smell of my clothes so for 4 months i was bedriden, naked, not being able to do anything. This continued until 19 weeks into pregnancy. Then thing started to get better. I was the lucky one when the sickness lasts only on first trimister. Gradually the nausea dissapeared, and i got better. I am curently 34 weeks pregnant and doing better, now i am 55 kg wich i thing is amazing, means the baby is getting bigger. But that first trimester made me think i dont want to make another baby.

I literally started crying when you started saying your symptoms and you talked about being in a dark place. That validated everything I was feeling. Some women that never had it looked at me like I was overreacting…. I spent four days in the hospital. Showers are still difficult to take because the end of the day is the worst nausea. Thank God for the medication similar to the ones you took.

I’m so glad I found this video when I did. It was after my second trip to the ER and, like most of the people in the comments, I cried watching it. I was 7 weeks at that time. I was told to try B6, it didn’t work. I was then prescribed raglan but it didn’t work. At 8 weeks, I was on zofran. It helped with the throwing up but I was still nauseous all the time. I was taking zofran twice a day. I was only able to eat food I couldn’t smell. I survived off of eating a little bit of frosted flakes cereal with milk and vanilla ice cream at a time. The nausea started to get better at 15 weeks. 16 weeks was the magic week for me. That is when I was able to eat real food. Some smell I still can’t handle but I can eat now.

I’m in tears watching this video, everything you are describing is just like me, luckily I went on cyclizine and ondanstetron in week 9 after one hospital admission and it made a huge difference. Now at week 12, I’m still bed bound/totally stuck upstairs because of smells and exhaustion but I can eat so much better and have stopped dropping weight. Thank you so much for this video, sometimes you feel like your going insane because people just do not understand what your going through, the only people who get it are my poor husband who has to look after me everyday and my mum who had HG with me and my brother. 30 years ago she had no diagnosis, no medications at all and no IV fluids, she was like a skeleton with a massive bump when she gave birth, I truly don’t know how she survived.

Your story is very similar to mine. I’ve now had 3 HG pregnancies although first time round I just thought it was normal and got no help. But each time I was sick for two trimesters. Before i was medicated I was vomiting up to 40 times a day. I also had the hyper salivation and had to carry a towel with me to spit on which made me feel so disgusting. I couldn’t take care of my kids because I couldn’t even really move. Triggers to make me vomit were smells etc but also if I had the thought of having a nap in the day, I would vomit. I am going to share this video because so many people out there have no idea just how debilitating it really is. The worst comment that people said to me was “it’s worth it” or even more annoying and actually patronising “some people can’t even get pregnant so think yourself lucky” this made me furious, of course I was blessed to be pregnant but that doesn’t mean my problems weren’t VERY real. I was sterilised during my third c section because I knew I could not live through another round of HG. Thank goodness for ondansetron, it is a lifesaver but I wish I hadn’t had to fight so hard to be prescribed it in the first place.

I'm at 15 weeks. My doctor prescribed zofran and phenergan, neither of which are helping. The ER refused to do anything. They wouldn't do an IV, instead they prescribed Reglan and told me to eat ice chips at home to replenish fluids. A different doctor ordered weekly IV fluids 3 weeks ago and they still have not approved the referral. My fiance is in the military and currently in a different state and i had to leave my job because they werent willing to work with me in any way. My doctor still keeps calling it morning sickness, I've thrown up 3 times today from taking sips of gatorade. This is one of the scariest experiences of my life.

Watching this video brings back so many memories from 2nd pregnant and the anger I feel still is actually surprising me because I was refused fluids because the doctor said if I wasn't pregnant I'd be admitted for fluids but because I was I couldn't have them as the pregnancy ward didn't want me. I was lucky that an emergency doctor I spoke to prescribed me Ondansetron which was the only thing that helped me in anyway. I had so many doctors that were useless, judgemental and clueless about HG. So much more needs to be done. Tbh this is a huge part of why baby number 3 won't happen for us.

I'm so glad I came across your video I am so pleased your feeling better. I had HG with my pregnancy and HONESTLY it is the WORSE thing I EVER experienced. It did ease off on the 2nd trimester and I was on my knees thinking god it was getting better. I definitely 100% felt that no one understood what I was going through and people thought I was exaggerating I felt so alone so low I actually remember feeling that I wanted to die. I got attmitted to hospital few times would of been more if like you said the ketones didnt show I was dehydrated enough. Your story sounds exactly like mine. I was bed bound for two months and it’s hard because you feel totally robbed of the enjoyment of pregnancy that other women get. It put me off having no. 2 for years, but at this moment, we are two months away from going through ivf for the second time to have our second. It’s taken me 4 years to build up the courage to go through this again. I’m mentally preparing myself for what’s ahead 🙈 and just reminding myself that it’s 9 months of hell, for a lifetime of love ❤ Thank you so much for sharing your journey. No one ever gets this illness, unless they’ve lived the relentlessness of HG 😩

I’m hoping this pregnancy goes as your did where she gets better towards the end of it. Thanks for sharing your story.

@@ramk5897 thanks for asking, no she didn’t really get better. Towards the last month they told her she had preeclampsia and she had to be hospitalized for almost 2 weeks. They were going to have her deliver at 34 weeks, but she improved while at the hospital and they ended up inducing her at 37 weeks. To add to the fun of her pregnancy there were no delivery rooms available when they induced her (she went into labor super fast) and she had to deliver without an epidural. She was in excruciating pain and I felt so bad for her. However, we are thankful to say that the baby was ok and he is now just over 3 months old and my wife is pretty much fully recovered. I hope no one has to go through what we did.

Hello, I’m currently 10 weeks and 5 days and I’m currently going through EVERYTHING that you’ve mentioned including feeling like a mental burden on doctors and my husband. My doctor increased my Zofran/Ondansetron from 1 (4mg) every 6hrs to 1 (8mg) and alternate to 1 (25mg) of Promethazine every 2hrs. I’m petrified of taking the medications so frequently but I feel and look terrible! My favorite drink is WATER but I can’t have it. Every smell bothers me from hand soaps, dish soaps, perfumes, colognes, food, pretty much anything except air. I too spend my days in our bedroom away from the world. There were times that I felt that my baby hated me 🥺. I enjoyed your video because you understand. I too plan to advocate for future moms who may have to experience this and will continue to research HG and ways to improve treatment for it. Thank You so much…and yes I literally cried watching you drink your water 😭. I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to join you with a tall ice cold glass of water!!! ❤️❤️

I had lost over 30lbs and I was starting to loose muscle mass as well due to my inability to eat or drink. I recently started eating small portions of solid food however I mostly eat freeze pops and I can drink cranberry juice (preferably frozen) without feeling nauseous, dry heaving, or vomiting. Being diagnosed with Hyperemisis and my experience has been extremely difficult. I’ve been unable to work and I’m still limited to what I can do around the house. I was feeling so sick all throughout my pregnancy. Although, I was never diagnosed I was suffering so much. From 5 weeks onwards it kept getting worse. I bought it up to my doctor who was pretty dismissive. People kept saying it was going to get better second trimester, but at that point I was still running to the restroom 6x times a day. I remember the worst day was 15 times a day. I literally didn't sleep and was in the restroom all night. People kept saying to eat crackers or plain foods, but I couldn't stomach anything. A lot of people just didn't get it and I felt extremely alone. Just typing this up brings back a lot of memories. If you are suffering right now, you are not alone. Stay strong!

My first pregnancy I couldn’t eat anything and my mouth tasted of metal. It was demoralizing. I started counting my throw up and made it to 24 one day-which made me oddly proud because I had to be proud of something. Lol. Had to go to ER twice and could not move. I couldn’t even look at screens. 3rd time I was able to go to urgent care thank God for that hospital bill being better.
Second pregnancy is better but I’m currently confined to room with filters at week 14. Thanks for giving room for people to vent.
I’m so pissed at this point. It’s a sign of terrible care that we have not thoroughly researched this by now.
What am I grateful for? A really good husband! And a couple of people praying. It means the world to have a good partner.
