There are other videos on this same topic of needle bearing failure on the lifter. Without the lubrication hole in the roller, the needle bearing can run dry, seize up and ruin your cam (and your engine).

I know your comment is old, but ill still reply for future readers. There really is no guarantee to get all the metal out. The cam/lifter failure was gradual causing microscopic metal to wear, dropping in the oil pan, being picked up by the pump and filtered out by the filter. I suppose you could drop the pan, and replace the pickup screen and pump to have a "better" repair. Ideal repair would be a new long block. Dodge Dealers wing a cam and lifters in them and send them under warranty.

Uh no. You want synthetic oil.
Poor hardening process probably and the oil used
5W20 motor oil does not belong in a Hemi....imo.😋 I disabled the mds on my Ram and will be using higher weight oil on the next oil change.
@@anoint426hemi6 They use 0W40 in the new ones
Isn't the MDS lifter a problem?
That was a non MDS engine . I don't do cam replacements on MDS engines . too many failures with that design and too much liability . .Thanks for watching the video . Have a great day.
@@mtrman47 my 2010 RT Challenger lost a cylinder a couple weeks ago it turned out to be the number 3 exhaust valve spring so I'm in the middle of changing that hopefully that's all that's wrong with.
As many years as needle bearing roller lifters have been out, why is it that only Dodge has problems with them!!
You need a steady cam, you got the caffeine shakes
Probably this engine was built on friday when half of the workers called in sick to have a 3 day week end and got replaced by management to work on the line for the day just to hit the number !!!
I had a 6.4 on a 2500 Ram with that high of compression, 215 psi
I Think you know just a " little " more than Me about engines ! But I did rebuild a 6 cylinder in 1969 - ish, so I know a bit of what your talkin about. Cheers raveondave
and a completely stupid and useless comment !
👍
It's such bullshit. Facing this at the moment. The damn motor should have been recalled. I'm just glad I got 120k out of mine unlike some others who had this happen just out of 50k. I love the ride of the Ram, but I won't be trusting them anymore on my next truck.
That truck is worth doing it because it’s. 2500 to bad ya didn’t get the Cummings
All the jittery cam corder/phone action almost made me dizzy.
Sorry about that . 4 Decades of heavy duty diesel engine repair takes it's toll., Nerve damage , worn out joints and bones . Just trying to help others .
I had the same problem I replace the engine!. My original engine only had 100,000 miles the lifters are not getting enough oil
Comp cams and lifters. The lifters go.bad and kill the cam.
We have 4-2012 Ram 2500 CNG/GAS one failed 24,000 factory fixed failed
again at 120,000 another one failed at 180,000 in summation they will
ALL fail in my opinion, reminds me of the 1990s Chevy 6.5 Turbo diesel
POS. OH here's a good point Dodge is OUT of replacement long blocks
until March 2020 I wonder why?
Wowwww, wtf
Any engine named after a sore rectum cannot be good.
Cam failure Brought to you by 5w20 oil 👎
Slim56 5w20 would be fine if they used a quality oil like Amsoil signature series or Penzoil ultra platinum and change the oil at manufacturers recommended intervals!
@@1TH-cam_you the only way I feel safe with light weight oil is using an additive.
Not the Cams fault. The cam is bad because the roller on the lifter stopped turning. It is the needle bearing in the lifter that caused the failure.
The way I see it needle bearings Failer(CHEAP!!!) I did replace my engine 2 years ago Also that is no one to complain about it I just feel sorry for the people who's buying new trucks I will never buy a Dodge on my life again
Kzthefisher Outdoors All manufactures have problems. The new F150’s are burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles.
Next one cut out the Windage tray. This engine is not getting enough oil below 2000 rpm, such as idling.
HEMI = CRAP - so just check out the 900 videos of hemi engine troubles = the later type made in america now = CRAP !
Let me guess flat lifters
Just poor Engineering but it’s not limited to Dodge
ALL AMERICAN car manufacturers have weak
Engineers
No just cutting corners!
And all sourcee metal from China. No good
Mopar made a very bad engine
Make sure nobody recommends dodge anymore until they Fix the problem
These Hemi engines are know for this no quality control they out source the lifters China my friend! For get these garbage engines!
I can’t don’t understand why dodge Chrysler motor are doing this junk , i have the same F problem with my 2010 charger 5.7 hemi the car has only 98,000 miles , that’s why Japanese car are way more better, please dodge Chrysler grow up, stop making junks ..
Need a truck....buy Toyota

My buddy just bought a 1500 with the 3rd gen hemi. Didn't even have it a week and the cam was wiped out. The dealer tried to tell us some bullshit but were a repair shop and know better 😆
Dealer sent it to a independent shop and it was rebuilt twice, second time a charm by a Ford tech
