One of the underrated idiosyncrasies was John reloaded when he needed to reload. They didn't just allow a never ending amount of bullets like some movies do.
Hell yeah! It breaks away from the infinite ammo trope and allows some realism to the gun fighting and hand to hand combat. Especially when you notice the self control John has when gun fighting; never shooting civilians and waiting for a perfect opportunity to attack.
@@Rayven_420 lol yes. Him holding down the dude with his shotgun while he reloaded was gold. So was the time he ran out of bullets in Casablanca and had a reload race.
What makes the dogs death scene hit HARDER is the fact that, if you pay close attention, there's a blood trail. His puppy crawled over TO him to die. :(
It's sadder when you realize the dog crawled to John when it was dying. You would think the bad guys had placed it in front of him so it would be the first thing he'd see when he waked up. But the trail of blood it left as it tried to be next to him as it was dying is heartbreaking.
Yep, agreed. It's this movie that pushes that boundaries of Hollywood. What I mean by that, I didn't know until John Wick, that Hollywood stay way from two things, children being shown getting killed and dogs being killed (and any other animal for that matter)
You had to fucking point that out, didn't you? I was perfectly ignorant about that, thinking John Wick dragged the dog but you HAD TO voice your version. Goddamn it, now I'm sad. lol
Here's a fun detail. When John tells the guard to take the night off, before, he said he had lost weight. It was in fact a code. The guard specifically told John... with his weight loss how many guards he was up against.
@@jonathanlewis1981 It's the internet, people pass off insider information like they were on set themselves. It makes them feel important. Let them have it.
The translated text said "over sixty pounds", while what Francis actually said was 28 kilograms (which is accurate, as 28 kilos is about 61.8 pounds). And if you count, there were... 28 dudes in the club around Iosef.
Fun fact at the end, dunno if anyone mentioned it yet, but: When John saves the dog in the final scenes of the movie, the paperwork on the cage actually says "To be put down" or something along those lines. He did infact save a doggo for himself!
This movie is a great example of how important it can be to an action movie to have a star who's willing to put in the work and do so much of the physical stuff himself. The long, steady, sustained action shots that this movie was famous for going back to (after decades of shaky cam and jump cuts) wouldn't have been possible if they were trying to hide the fact that it was a stunt double doing the fighting. Keanu Reeves is a god damn machine.
I don’t know if i would say it’s downhill from the first one but i will totally agree the first is the best. I do think in the action side of the next ones they stepped it up a bit.
The Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist was such a great actor and human being with the biggest, warmest heart you can imagine. He passed away in cancer, age 56, three years after he played Viggo Tarasov in this John Wick movie. He had just got his breakthrough in Hollywood, where he played against stars like Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves and others. RIP Michael. Michael Nyqvist 5:00 Oh... 😄
Not to mention, reloading after an appropriate number of rounds were fired. 12-15 rounds per mag, and if you count each shot, he reloads after about 12-15 rounds, and he makes sure they stay down.
Keanu Reeves is a black belt, and did a ton of weapons training for this movie. The fact he could do his own stunts meant they could film MUCH better shots than if they had to use stunt doubles.
Even though I LOVED the sequels that followed after, this one will always have a special place in my heart due to the fact that it has a more personal story. But the John Wick series as a whole is fantastic though.
I know I was highly upset about the Daisy execution. I literally went into my bathroom to finish crying. I told my husband you should’ve prepared me for that, but he didn’t want to give me any spoilers. We had a Daisy dog of our own, but she was not a beagle and we had to put her down 3/12/2021- worst night of my life.
John Wick is one of the best film franchise ever. Keanu Reeves is national treasure. So very happy to see your reaction too this one. It well not disappoint.
Keanu trained extensively for these movies. Both in hand to hand combat and weapons training. There's several videos on here showing his training with actual tactical and combat trainers. The dude really knows how to do the things he's doing in these movies. He's literally one of the most dangerous actors in Hollywood. Also, an interesting detail - if you look closely the dog John takes at the end was marked for death. There was a tag on its kennel saying so. He actually rescued a dog that was set to be put down. So very cool on many levels! Loved this reaction guys! I'm very much looking forward to the next ones! Subscribed!
Plus, instead of using the crutch that a lot of action films use to hide bad choreography (lots of jump cuts and close ups), they have the confidence to show everything which makes the fights easy to follow and makes Wick look even more lethal, as you can clearly see how he moves from target to target proficiently.
Actually keanu does alot of his own stunts (i didnt say all) but theres video's of him training with various guns preparing for john wick and he said that the majority of his stunts are all him so id say he made the movie great
There are so many layers to the John Wick films. For example, if you count his shots, the ammo capacity matches his shots, the different lighting has meaning (a lot of meaning), he has perfect trigger discipline, his shooting technique is amazing. They combine the obvious over the top-ness with a mechanical realism rarely seen in films. They use long wide shots so you can see that it is Keanu doing to stunts rather than quick jump cuts like most action films. The stunt work speaks for itself. It is truly filmmaking as an art form.
For the shooting, Keanu trains with Taran Tatical, which most celebrities train at, there is a youtube video of his training before John Wick.. he actually holds a couple of records for celebrity shooters.
There was a day, during filming of 3 where he was walking a huge pitbull in the middle of Manhattan, in his suit, covered in blood...no one asked for an autograph...lmao
The fact he didn’t do the stereotypical monologue before killing Iosef is really fitting, he straight up just starched his soul without letting any last works get out
In the scene right before John gets thrown off that balcony, Keanu was actually running a fever or 103 or 104 with the flu so he pushed through to get that scene done. I can’t remember if he had to redo it several times or if it was a one take. But props to Keanu!
Part of what makes the fight scenes so good in this is that Keanu Reeves is actually an active and very enthusiastic martial artist. He's trained in several martial arts too, from the smooth and gentle movements of aikido, to the survive-at-all-costs brutality of krav maga.

Oh my god! Steven side eyeing Nikki after the puppy O.o looking like "maybe this wasn't the best choice in movie"! I was both heartbroken from Nikki's reaction, but trying not to laugh at Steven's! Great reaction as usual you two! Love you guys so much! Also, if you love dogs, can't wait till you react to John Wick 3! Dazir and Havan were amazing! Also, Nikki, you have come such a long way since your GoT days. I remember when you used to look away at violence, now you're yelling at the screen in excitement. So proud!
When francis talks about how many kilograms he lost, he's talking about how many man are inside, john lets him live for that, and for their past friendship
True, American Humane Society made sure that little puppy was not harmed in the making of this movie as they monitored his treatment. Creators created puppy's yelps as he was hurt and killed for sound effects.
John was trained from small childhood when the Ruusska Roma brought him to them. He was gifted, he was far more gifted than anyone in the Russka. They poured knowledge into him in killing. And sent him to the US.
Just gonna bring this up here: everything that you see John Wick do in this movie, that is *all* Keanu Reeves. Also the director of this movie was the choreography director in the Matrix.
In the onscreen english subtitle, it says pounds, but the weight value that Francis had said in Russian was in kilograms. I believe it was 27 or 28 kilos so yeah, the amount of guys inside was actually between those numbers, not 60.
Nah, they just thought they were untouchable because of who his dad is. Shit happens like that all the time. They just happened to run into a fucking Terminator this time.
John Wick is the SHIT and I love it when I get to see the reactions of people who get to see it for the first time. It was such a sleeper when it first came out and I remember spreading the word in real life and people would come back to me and say "Yo you weren't kidding, it was amazing!"
One of my favourite things about John in this movie, is that for all the crazy stuff he does in his film, this is him after years out of the business. This is him when he's rusty
Training wasn't just choreographic work with stunt people; it was years of three gun competition. You can find you tube video of Keanu competing really well.
I truly love how much you care about animals Nikki, I’m with you. Babies and animals are life’s only pure innocence and if we don’t stop evil who intentionally harms innocence then what does that say about our species, we should know better. It shouldn’t even come to someone’s mind to hurt a good and decent person, and especially an innocent life. Society needs to be ruthless, unforgiving, and swift to remove anyone who intentionally harms good and decent life, and especially innocent life. We are so soft as a global society and evil will never respect that so they will never stop! 🤙🏻💪🏻
I get what you are saying, but animals are not pure innocence. Babies I agree. Watch a lion kill all the Cubs in its pride when it takes over just to make sure all the offspring are his. That’s not innocence.
It works so well, because Keanu has all those skills in reality (he went to Taran Butler's shooting range to train with guns, he practiced martial arts with and without weapons), that's why those scenes looks so amazing, they are also long shots, not cut content with lots of flashing and jumping over to camouflage the fact, that actors aren't that great at fighting.
Because of the John Wick films, Keanu Reeves has in fact become the Number 1 certified civilian non-military weapons expert thanks to the training he did.
I love how John Wick went from being an underrated action movie that got most of its traction from teenage action movie hounds to basically being it’s own subgenre. Like “Hey! Ya want a sweet movie with gun fu, a thriller aspect, brutal brawls and 25 headshots in like 9.46 seconds? Then watch JOHN WICK!” 😂😂
i dont think he missed on purpose. you can see the shot landing in the glass ahead of theon. he was leading the target and would have hit him but the glass stopped/ricochet the bullet. Shooting through glass makes the bullet act unpredictably.
Actually the glass deflects the bullets (which is realistic, that does happen) if you see where the hole in the glass is it is always a hit if the glass wasn't there.
The sniper that was watching John through the window (Willem Dafoe), was actually keeping an eye on him. Remember the funeral scene when he talked to him and he said that? He shot next to his head to wake him up because he knew someone came into the room to attack John. His skills are way too good to have missed that shot on John if he wanted it.
@O. B. I don't remember everything in this video, but I'm pretty sure they were questioning the scene. They were probably saying things like "I can't believe he's gonna shoot him in the hotel." and then "oh thank god he missed" which makes it seem like they were unaware of what was happening. Without seeing this video in over a year, am I right?
@O. B. And you don't think replying to a comment over a year old which is explaining something THEY NEVER SAY THEY UNDERSTAND OR NOT is superfluous? Ironic.
It helps so much when you have practicing professionals working on a project. You mention the fighting in "Lethal Weapon", Rorion Gracie was the consultant for that one and trained Mel Gibson and Garey Busey. For many of us, that was our first exposure to Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu.
Torture the kid who killed the dog? John wont give him the time of day, he's not worth the respect of slowing killing. He just killed him and moved on, that's how little he meant.
If it had just been the car he probably would e best the crap out of the kid and taken his car back and called it even... But killing the dog, the final gift from his dead wife, nope - that's a death penalty offense.
I think what made the movie so good was that Keanu did his own stunts. He has some videos out of him at the gun ranges and learning the fight scenes. Also there is a video out of how many people john wick killed in this movie. Lol

Wow, Nicky is getting aggressive and pottymouthed!🤣 And I was like, Nicky do not get attached to this doggie
Remember: it wasn't A pencil, it was a FUCKING pencil!
😂😂
🤣🤣🤣👍
the moment nikki cried because they killed the dog ... me thinking: "don't worry. They all gonna pay for it!!"
That’s what my brother told me the first time I watched it. I paused it and text him ”are they about to hurt this puppy?” He text back “yes but they will pay for it”
I can't wait to see what she thinks of Agnes in WandaVision!
So you hate them, right? Goooood!!
"You brought a knife to a John Wick fight". I think that is one of my favorite responses to that scene ever.
So proud!
The director was Keanu Reeves' stunt double in the Matrix.
Also the main Russian dude who has the better of john in the club and dies at the church also worked with Keanu on the matrix fighting him in that.
When francis talks about how many kilograms he lost, he's talking about how many man are inside, john lets him live for that, and for their past friendship
Really? Source?
@@mario_gabriel Kevin Nash talked about it in an interview. If you search for it it's somewhere here on TH-cam.
Thanks. That's a nice little factoid.
@@glennmcmurray thanks
Dont worry the puppy is alive and well and his real life owners named him Wick aswell.
True,
American Humane Society made sure that little puppy was not harmed in the making of this movie as they monitored his treatment. Creators created puppy's yelps as he was hurt and killed for sound effects.
...and puppy attented the premiere even walking the Red Carpet.
@@sirfriendzone1228 wow! Awesome!
No shit
And the puppy got a Nobel peace prize
I freaking love John going "I'm THINKING I'm BACK!!!"
11:38 fun fact: the reason John let Francis go is because the “over 60” number was him telling John how many guys were inside.
In the onscreen english subtitle, it says pounds, but the weight value that Francis had said in Russian was in kilograms. I believe it was 27 or 28 kilos so yeah, the amount of guys inside was actually between those numbers, not 60.
Theon and his boys must have been the only ones in the world who didn’t know who John was...
Nah, they just thought they were untouchable because of who his dad is. Shit happens like that all the time. They just happened to run into a fucking Terminator this time.
Reek got confused between john and jon 😂
@@TimedRevolver yep and them kids want and fuck up daddy's business as well because of it
*Viggo chilling at home*
"Sometimes, I wonder if I've forgotten to do anything important as a father."
they were the new generation of criminals, they don't care about the old stuff... and they pay for that
The moment she said she's worried about the dog
I'm like damn get ready then for what's coming
John Wick is the SHIT and I love it when I get to see the reactions of people who get to see it for the first time. It was such a sleeper when it first came out and I remember spreading the word in real life and people would come back to me and say "Yo you weren't kidding, it was amazing!"
"Oh."
And Steven understood immediately shit was about to get real.
When Francis says he lost 60 kilograms, he's actually telling John how many henchmen are in the club.
to elaborate, he actually said 60 pounds in the translation, which translates to roughly 28 kilograms, which is the number of men inside.
@@Rayven_420 he says 20 kg in russian
That is interesting trivia.
@CMVP indeed, which means either the Russian or the subtitles are wrong, and in this case it's the Russian lol the Russian is... not great lol
So sick 😎😎😎
No way y’all never seen John wick? This day started awesome. Thank you guys.
One of my favourite things about John in this movie, is that for all the crazy stuff he does in his film, this is him after years out of the business. This is him when he's rusty
Watching Nikki, who might be one of the more empathic people I've seen watch flicks and shows, cheer on a murder-monster for 25 minutes was a treat!
Training wasn't just choreographic work with stunt people; it was years of three gun competition. You can find you tube video of Keanu competing really well.
*sees John Wick- oh God somebody warn her about daisy!! *
Keanu’s gun work in this was awesome... they actually show you have to reload 🤣
He was actually trained by professional marksmen so it looks authentic and realistic
The style of fighting is called gunfoo and keanu reeves did most of this himself . Apparently he excelled at learning this.
straight from "NOBOBDY" to "JOHN WICK" ... glad i found your channel , enjoy you two almost as much as the movie lol ...
9:15 by the cop taking his hat off he was conveying to John that was no longer acting as a cop i.e. “I won’t tell anyone so please don’t kill me.”
Nobody can say "excommunicado" quite like Al Swearengen
Ian McShane has that icy toothy grin down pat
Each one just gets better-John Wick doesn’t miss.
"Your Gonna bring a knife to a John Wick fight" was hilarious and on point lol
*you're
Because of the John Wick films, Keanu Reeves has in fact become the Number 1 certified civilian non-military weapons expert thanks to the training he did.
I love how John Wick went from being an underrated action movie that got most of its traction from teenage action movie hounds to basically being it’s own subgenre. Like “Hey! Ya want a sweet movie with gun fu, a thriller aspect, brutal brawls and 25 headshots in like 9.46 seconds? Then watch JOHN WICK!” 😂😂
John Wick = One of the biggest badasses in movie history
the reactions of steven are really really great. luv it, no acting, just you. very enjoyable to watch.
Fun fact, besides the car shootout scene all the mag sizes and reloads are accurate to the actual gun he's using in every scene.
5:00 Never in the history of cinema has more been conveyed through a single two letter word.
I love how he kills the son like fuck last words fuck a slow death he is as surgical with the kid as he is anyone else. No exceptions.
I watched Blind Wave's reaction to John Wick and Eric said that in scene John Wick looked like an "Assassin Jesus" 🤣
Check out Tom Hank’s Road to Perdition
"See you John" remember this quote it goes all through the franchise
You're gonna bring a knife to a John Wick fight! That was a great line!
When it comes to beat'em up, shoot'em up, chase, chase, chase, the John Wick movies are top notch.
John Wick doesn't miss. When he was shooting at Theon at the club, he missed on purpose. He wanted him to live in fear of him for a while.
i dont think he missed on purpose. you can see the shot landing in the glass ahead of theon. he was leading the target and would have hit him but the glass stopped/ricochet the bullet. Shooting through glass makes the bullet act unpredictably.
@@xxel1tevi0xx61 not really. A .45 caliber bullet travels at about 830 feet per second. At that speed, a pane of glass wouldn't even slow it down.
Actually the glass deflects the bullets (which is realistic, that does happen) if you see where the hole in the glass is it is always a hit if the glass wasn't there.
@@literalsarcasm1830 It does not slow it much but it deflects the bullet quite a bit.
@@DakonBlackblade2 but having it happen like that every single time? Really?
First 30 mins of the film is phenomenal way of setting up the rest, the build up is awesome
@O. B. This comment is from a year ago
"Why is it always the kid of the powerful dude whose gotta be the biggest punk ass?" I think the question answers itself.
nikki: did they do anything to the dog !
Steven: ehheehh!
Too be fair, They may have not known they killed the dog 100%, it was able to walk (crawl)
I think what made the movie so good was that Keanu did his own stunts. He has some videos out of him at the gun ranges and learning the fight scenes. Also there is a video out of how many people john wick killed in this movie. Lol
Yeah, his gunmanship on the range was fantastic. Reeves really committed to his role.
YES! I've been watching more reaction videos lately and found my way here this morning. It was absolute JOY enjoying this movie with you guys! Can't wait for the next Wicks :)
