The emotion Keanu's voice has when he's delivered the "you can either hand over your son or die screaming along side him" was amazing it's the unbridled rage of a patient man who's held his rage in too long.
That and his obvious pain reading his wife's note. It's sad they made him so one note and flat as a character as the films progressed and that they couldn't have keanue keep his hair cleaner cut
Funny thing is Viggo would've probably escaped cleanly *if* he hadn't paid Perkins to break the rules of the Continental. But since Perkins tried to kill John *and* killed another fellow assassin on Continental grounds (a BIG no-no) apparently at the behest of Viggo, Winston revealed what he knew about Viggo's escape plan to John; Winston couldn't let the disrespect stand and basically sicced the best hitman to ever live on Viggo for free. Winston knows how to play the game.
After that puppy scene, I don't think anyone could be convinced that cruelty to animals is some minor matter. Someone else on another reaction video acutely noted that the vodka served to Iosef was bottom shelf crap vodka served in a crap glass and Viggo never drank it even though he poured himself a glass. Viggo punched Iosef and then serves himself the top shelf vodka in a high end glass and drank it by himself. His son is no longer worthy of even a drink with his own dad.
It was so easy with the police when Jimmy came to the door, because Jimmy knew who John is, and what he does already. Jimmy was just showing up to do his job and to find out how much paperwork was going to need needed. When John was being casual and forth right to Jimmy, he knew it wasn't going to be more than necessary as long as he walked away. So Jimmy did. Apparently the rest of the force would also understand this.
I always took the cop taking off his Policeman cap was a symbolic, "I'm not on duty anymore! THIS is not MY responsibility to deal with! I wanna see my wife & kids again. Nothing to see here." - kind of thing.
This is a scene better explained in retrospect, having gotten two other sequels that fleshed out the universe. Turns out this is a universe where assassins and hitmen are a regular career choice, so the world revolves around that. Pretty awesome idea and I’m surprised it hasn’t been done before.
@@sharkdentures3247 I remember a similar scene from the movie THE BAYTOWN OUTLAWS. A police cruiser on speed trap duty sees a van full of gun-toting bounty hunters being chased by a big truck with gunmen shooting at it. The younger cop switches on the red-and-blue lights, but the older cop switches them off again and tell him, "No. No, indeed. HELL no."
I'm not sure if it was mentioned, but Marcus had John's back the entire time. He wanted the contract to be open to allow for flexibility on his part, and he didn't kill Perkins because by "business on Continental grounds" it means any type of killing within the bounds of the hotel. It wouldn't have mattered if Marcus was across the way, he still would've been subject to the rules
What’s great about this movie is usually the beginning is where the writers build up the power of the antagonist by showing the reactions of the protagonist and supporting characters, but with John Wick, it’s the opposite. It’s the reputation of the protagonist that the antagonists are afraid of 😋
I love how the movie is built around that. You dont see a flashback of John killing a ton of people, he is just a normal guy. Then he's scrubbing the blood off the ground and glares at the camera and you KNOW, people are gonna die. Then you see everyone reacting around him, culminating in the exposition while he is taking a sledgehammer to the foundation of his world to get his guns back.
I watched a video that broke down why that reversal works, and a big part of it is that the audience is introduced to John as a normal guy in love first. Then he suffers tragedy with his wife falling sick and ending up having to pull the plug. Then another scene, where the puppy is introduced, again shows how much they loved each other - her getting him a puppy so he doesn't have to grieve her alone, and him honoring her wish and committing to taking care of Daisy. Only after we've been thoroughly taught to empathize with John do we get the other side of the story, that of the legendary assassin who even other assassins treat with caution and fear. But by that point, we're firmly on John's side as an audience, and considering the thing that drives him back into the dark is so horrible, we're just rooting for him to kill the son of a bitch who murdered a puppy. Our first impression of John is carefully constructed of a decent man who snapped after one to many tragedies, rather than the hardened killer struggling to keep it together but failing, which is probably closer to the truth. Because in any other movie, John would definitely fit the role of villain rather than hero.
5:54 . Beyond this moment, everything done by John, which would normally be considered heinous and cruel, is miraculously justified. Power of cuteness lol
- Oh yeah, 100% I don't think there is a single person who wouldn't have been behind John Wick on this, Iosef deserved what was coming to him, and honestly, his Dad should have known that and just stayed out of the way, he didn't save his empire, he didn't save himself, and he didn't save his son, and him knowing exactly what John was capable of for love, should have known nothing could have stopped him for revenge. Yes yes, it was his son, but honestly, Forrest Gump said it best " ... Stupid is as Stupid does ... " Bad Choices Viggo.
The cop that talked to John at his house, was so casual and it was “so easy” because he knows of John and his reputation. Knows that he better stay on his good side, even if he’s a cop.
- Can you imagine the precinct call over the radio - "Yeah can you go to [fill in blank] address, there is a noise complaint" Jimmy : " Ahhh, Sh!t ... "
Not just because he knew John Wick, but also because the High Table and the government have a form of treaty. As long as civilians aren’t harmed, the police don’t care.
Yeah, well, that’s the idea. The more you fall in love with that puppy, the happier you’ll be seeing scores of dudes getting killed left and right for it.
6:25 ... i never thought they put it next to him ... if you look there is a trail of blood ... I always thought that the dying puppy dragged itself to John before she died. Which is even sadder.
When Wick was driving the Mustang hard and fast, that was not joy. It was grief bordering on suicide... Also, Wick is a character that all true dog lovers INSTANTLY identify with...
Among the best of the action films released in the past decade and the most realistic action in this series, and BIG kudos to the directors and actors for putting in the work to make it all so captivating and relatable in every way aside from the action.
- Yeah, I think all the John Wick movies are pretty good, but I still stand by the First one is my favorite, the other two are good quality action movies, but they don't have the same impact or effect of part one.
@@Arthaius Agreed... I think very few of us were ready to see the realism and commitment of Keanu putting in the behind the scenes work in both MMA and guns. I've never seen a combination of both the way he handled the home invasion and Red Circle scenes (doing grappling and close quarter gun appications... wow in the first time we see it... after that, it's still amazing, but somewhat expected 😅).
Glad you enjoyed it. REGARDING JIMMY (the police officer) - Jimmy obviously saw the body, but he (and probably every police officer in the state haha) is well aware of Wick’s brutal reputation (“you uh… WORKING again). Jimmy wants no part of it 🤣🤣 and just bids him a very respectful goodnight.
It’s shown multiple times within the franchise that the assassin world is its own entity, governments and government officials like cops or feds, don’t get involved. Jimmy knew John and only went to his house for the gunshots because he was retired.
In the scene where the dog is next to John, after the home invasion there's a trail of blood on the floor. That's because the dog didn't die right away and actually crawled toward John, to die by his side.
The Doctor was the Keymaker from Matrix Reloaded. Got to love that reunion they put in this movie Also, I like the fact that the dog he took at the end was scheduled for execution. He saved the dog and the dog saved him :)
Does anyone else notice the mutual respect between Viggo and John? Especially at the end. "Be seeing you, John." And John unhesitatingly responds. It's like they both knew it had to end like this for honor's sake no hard feelings.
The John Wick house is out here on long island in a very exclusive town called Mill Neck. (At the end of Horseshoe Road by the water I believe) -- The runway John practices on is at Republic Airport, Farmingdale, NY.. -- The fountain where Ms. Perkins gets her comeuppance is the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park.
Laughed my arse off at: "So he's like a top tier hitman, right?" Miss, John Wick is ABOVE the top tier. This man is the greatest hitman in the world ...
29:00 I've heard a reason that he shot that one time and then laughed was that there was only one bullet in the gun. It was Viggo's gun, and he had only loaded it with one bullet, because he was planning on committing suicide if John had cornered him. It doesn't look like the gun was out of bullets, but that explanation makes sense to me, so I kind of hope that it is true.
The John Wick house is out here on Long Island in a very exclusive town called Mill Neck.. -- The runway where John practices is at Republic Airport, Farmingdale, NY .
I've seen way too much anime to ever trust any story that starts off with a strong focus on an adorable puppy or kitten. The more cuteness they shove in my face, the more my warning bells start to ring.
When Iosev Tarasov was fleeing the bathhouse and John Wick was shooting the glass out, he did so on purpose. He wanted Iosev to flee in terror. John was playing with his kill.
@@epsome13 your comment was a little vague. A more apt response would be John's own words, "...took that from me, stole that frOM ME, KILLED THAT FROM ME!!!..."
The thing I like to remember is Keanu learned all of these self defense and weapons tactics for real and could do some of the stuff you see in the movies. Not everything, but a good portion.
I watched this movie while I was bored as hell a random saturday and it immediately became my favorite action film ever. It's minimalistic, straight to the point, and well executed.
Fun Fact: According to Kevin Nash (Francis) when John has the gun to his head and they chat about how much weight he has lost, that was code for how many guys are inside and where. Then because of their history he's given the night off b/c John doesn't want to kill him
Love the way you react - most other reactions talk too much and interrupts the movie, but you are superb - It's just like watching the movie next to you on the sofa. Grats on finding the right mix.
What I love most about the scene of John breaking the foundation while Viggo is explaining who he is is the symbolism of him breaking through the concrete to get his tools. He literally built his new life on a foundation of his old one. And in many ways, having to resort to "old habits" to deal with the grief of his current situation. Largely anger.
Oh, and the Pittie he took from the clinic, if you go back and pause it when it shows the paperwork on the cage door, it said the dog was scheduled to be euthanized. So literally, John saved the dog.
I'm typically pretty good at noticing details in movies, but that one had slipped past me. Thanks for pointing it out. It makes an already good movie just a little bit better.
@@davidbennett1357 I'll be honest, I missed it too. Someone else pointed it out in another video, so I can't take the credit for it, but I'm glad to share the knowledge still.

"Why was that so easy?" I can think of two reasons. One, the cop, Jimmy, knew who John was and wanted to go home when his shift ended. And two, bad guys killing bad guys. I love me a pit bull too.
Not only that but The High Table and the Government have some form of agreement/treaty. As long as the criminal world doesn’t interfere with civilian’s, the police doesn’t bother.
Fun fact: The doctor was the same actor who played the Keymaker in The Matrix: Reloaded. I always love people's first reactions to this film. The world building is incredible and there's so much character for a man who says very few lines.
@@Lestat13 - I read somewhere that the actor who had to do the kill scene with the puppy had a hard time of it, and spent time cuddling the puppy after every take or something.
@@Arthaius Seriously? 😹 Nice story, but when you’re filming a scene, over & over, it sounds like a stretch that actors/stuntmen would get upset over the death of a stuffed dog or whatever they used in the death scene. Unlike us, the audience, who were destroyed, watching it for the first time. I do believe that the pup stole everyone’s heart that day. How could it not? 😻
@@Lestat13 - I don't think they were using a stuffed dog, of course who knows, but all I remember from the thing I read was that "acting" like he was cracking this puppy on the head apparently really bothered the guy, not that it was shown in closeup, just sort of slightly out of focus movement in the background, but perhaps the mere concept of it bothered the actor too much.
Great movie and a great reaction young lady. Keanu trained a lot for the action scenes and was trained by one of the best in combat firearms. This training is why it looked so fluid and real. Thanks for sharing your wonderful reactions.

I love the John Wick trilogy so much I was surprised to see that “The Baba Yaga” wasn’t taken as a YT handle yet! “John wasn’t exactly the boogeyman, he was the one you sent to kill the fn boogeyman!!”
Also, the film was directed by a stuntman who’s worked with Keanu over the years (correct me if I’m wrong, Chad). And, one of the head bodyguards, the one who put up the best fight & threw Keanu over the mezzanine, is a well known stuntman/actor. You may remember him from the Matrix films & Blonde Bombshell, to name a few. His technique & the gravitas he brings to a character is probably why he’s sought after by directors & given lines, which isn’t common for stuntman 🤙🏼
The cop didn't do anything because he knows John's real identity, so they made this scene feel like they both know what's up, but they pretend everything is fine :D It's just light comedic relief after a bloody battle.
Really love your reactions alot. I'm happy that you are watching this trilogy, keanu was born to play john wick. One of my favorite action stars ever. Looking forward to part 2 and 3.😊
The puppy was named Daisy for a reason, she was named Daisy after Marcus Luttrell's dog named DASY(after the names of his SEAL team of which 3 were lost during Operation Red Wings aka Lone Survivor), the movie is loosely(VERY) based on the real life murder of DASY committed by a small group of young people, after they shot and killed DASY, Marcus Luttrell chased them across 3+ Texas counties leading police to them.
I was aware of Luttrell's story, read his book many times but I'd never heard this info. That's awesome. Good thing Marcus didn't get a hold of those idiots or he'd be in jail.
12:45 I've always presumed that, living in an affluent, relatively remote area, John's neighborhood either has its own small precinct, or whatever precinct they fall under has a corrupt CO that makes sure their area is covered by a group of cops that are 'on the take', so they're familiar with John and know not to interrupt him during "business".
Another awesome reaction. I knew the moment you began to swoon over the puppy that this was going to be a very hard thing for you. It was for many of us. I rescue also. One of the most memorable film moments of recent making. A piece of trivia for you regarding that puppy is that in Deadpool 2 the director is listed as _One of the Guys Who Killed the Dog in John Wick,_ 😆
The scene with Jimmy actually became a meme because of how casually a police officer, a man that would normally try to question John about the dead bodies in his foyer, just chooses to leave it be.
Nice little detail, John shot the son in the gut when he could've clearly just killed him on the spot. He wanted the boy to suffer for a few moments until he could do it up close and personal.
His money after he met has wife didn't come from being a hit man. Hence the secret chest in his basement. It came from restoring old and expensive antique books I believe the director said. Which is kind of cool too. :)
Every movie has its flaws, and I don't consider this a "masterpiece" (I use that word extremely sparingly), but Stahelski did an absolutely amazing job with this movie. The movie may not be a masterpiece, but the way they made us legitimately root for a mass murderer within the first 5 minutes of the movie, was pretty damned masterful. We meet John, and we're already kind of on his side because it's Keanu...and we see what a beautiful love he had with his wife, and we sympathize more, and then the loss, and the puppy...and we're firmly in his corner. And then we watch some thugs rip away the last proof of his wife's love, the last gesture she was able to show him...and they destroyed it. And at that point, we're all ready to burn the world down right alongside John. It's no masterpiece...but it was still masterfully done.
"It's no masterpiece...but it was still masterfully done." At first, I thought about that early, but after watching masterful scene, after masterful scene, at some point it has to become a masterpiece.
Favorite part of seeing this for the first time is that little "oh" viggo gives when Aurelio tells him what his son did. Like you immediately get an idea of how dangerous John is when even the mob boss understands why you decked his son bc he screwed up catastrophicallu
Keanu was professionally trained to shoot with different weapons by Taran Tactical so he really developed this skills, they also went for the realism to the point of counting the bullets and reload so it is accurete, they created very detailed underworld that gets revealed more and more in each movie with it`s rules like Continental being safe grounds and the place the coins take etc so you don`t just watch for the action but to understand the world they are in. Markus couldn`t say no because for sure he would`ve been shot so he doesn`t contact John

Pretty sure he also knows that John doesn't just kill random people... If he killed them it's pretty certain they're criminals anyways.
The emotion Keanu's voice has when he's delivered the "you can either hand over your son or die screaming along side him" was amazing it's the unbridled rage of a patient man who's held his rage in too long.
That is my favorite scene in the whole movie. I like to watch it every now and then.

That and his obvious pain reading his wife's note. It's sad they made him so one note and flat as a character as the films progressed and that they couldn't have keanue keep his hair cleaner cut
A: "Obviously I'm a dog lover"
Us knowing what's going to happen: "Excellent"
Fr 😂😂
Bro that’s sad but im laughing sorry
It was part of the plan.
Probably the best explanation I've seen for that scene.
I always took the cop taking off his Policeman cap was a symbolic, "I'm not on duty anymore! THIS is not MY responsibility to deal with! I wanna see my wife & kids again. Nothing to see here." - kind of thing.
apparently the assassins and the police force have an agreement to stay away from things related to each other and thats why the cop just left
You'll like "Nobody", has a similar protagonist buildup scene
"Oh..." - THE greatest line in the movie. It says so much about what's going to happen
When Viggo was told, and then when his son was told. They were both thinking the same thing: Iosef screwed up BIG-TIME.
"It was at that moment Viggo knew... his son fucked up."
5:54 . Beyond this moment, everything done by John, which would normally be considered heinous and cruel, is miraculously justified. Power of cuteness lol
Possibly the most I've ever empathized with a protagonist's motivations.
Bad Choices Viggo.
@@Arthaius Too bad that Iosef die too quick. John Wick should have torment(and torture) him more.
The cop that talked to John at his house, was so casual and it was “so easy” because he knows of John and his reputation. Knows that he better stay on his good side, even if he’s a cop.
- Can you imagine the precinct call over the radio - "Yeah can you go to [fill in blank] address, there is a noise complaint"
Jimmy : " Ahhh, Sh!t ... "
Not just because he knew John Wick, but also because the High Table and the government have a form of treaty. As long as civilians aren’t harmed, the police don’t care.
I love how she's reacting to the puppy and the only thing I'm saying to myself is, "oh then you're gonna be pissed about what happens next" 🤣
And gonna have a hard time coming with a better payback for killing a puppy.
It is really cool watching Keanu and the crew from the other movies train the weapons for real.
Considering two of the creators of the movie are accomplished stunt coordinators, it's not that much of a surprise.
The crazy part about Keanu Reeves is he can actually shoot and fight like this and yet is the dubbed the nicest celebrity ever.
"Speak softly and carry a big stick - you will go far." - Theodore Roosevelt
Keanu is a master of the Turtle Hermit way.
In the scene where the dog is next to John, after the home invasion there's a trail of blood on the floor. That's because the dog didn't die right away and actually crawled toward John, to die by his side.
I've seen this movie so many times, but the amount of goosebumps I got from the moments in this video.. It just shows how exceptional this movie was.
Reeves is really that good with a gun. There's a couple of TH-cam videos of him going through a shooting match course. It's impressive.
4000 hours training.... 4000 fricken hours. Thats some serious dedication.
The Doctor was the Keymaker from Matrix Reloaded. Got to love that reunion they put in this movie
Also, I like the fact that the dog he took at the end was scheduled for execution. He saved the dog and the dog saved him :)
Ryan George:
"Pow, pow, pow, pow"
'were those all head shots?'
"Yes all head shots"
"Yeh yeh yeh"
Does anyone else notice the mutual respect between Viggo and John? Especially at the end. "Be seeing you, John." And John unhesitatingly responds. It's like they both knew it had to end like this for honor's sake no hard feelings.
I think Viggo means they’ll be seeing each other in hell. (We are cursed, you and I)
The John Wick house is out here on long island in a very exclusive town called Mill Neck. (At the end of Horseshoe Road by the water I believe) -- The runway John practices on is at Republic Airport, Farmingdale, NY.. -- The fountain where Ms. Perkins gets her comeuppance is the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park.
Interesting part of John letting Francis go. He was telling John how many armed guards were inside
I thought he was very happy John was giving him the heads up and getting the effout of there
John asked him how many pounds he lost. Converted into kilograms is how many armed men are inside.
Probably just had a misfire on the second round. Rare, and very unlucky. The loudest sound in a gunfight is that click.
That puppy has weapons grade cuteness. I remember first time I tried watching this movie I was like "fuck this shit" when the puppy died.
I almost died laughing when she said “ooo is he gonna get a new puppy, oh no he needs meds”
The John Wick house is out here on Long Island in a very exclusive town called Mill Neck.. -- The runway where John practices is at Republic Airport, Farmingdale, NY .
Willem Dafoe always reminds me of his character in Boondock Saints! "THERE WAS A FIREFIIiIGHT!!"
Bruh......I always have that same thought when I see him lol. Every single time.
Then the lips flapping in slow mo when he kills the mob guy lolol
Has she watched Boondock Saints?
I've seen way too much anime to ever trust any story that starts off with a strong focus on an adorable puppy or kitten. The more cuteness they shove in my face, the more my warning bells start to ring.
Same rule applied in Hentai. Except it applied for the girls.
When Iosev Tarasov was fleeing the bathhouse and John Wick was shooting the glass out, he did so on purpose. He wanted Iosev to flee in terror. John was playing with his kill.
As would anyone who just lost a gift of love from the love of their life that just died.
@@epsome13 your comment was a little vague. A more apt response would be John's own words, "...took that from me, stole that frOM ME, KILLED THAT FROM ME!!!..."
As many times as I watch this movie that line sends a shiver down my spine every single time! “John will come for you” 😬😬😬😬
- My personal favorite line, one which gives me such a "hairs standing on end" feeling is::
" Oh. "
The thing I like to remember is Keanu learned all of these self defense and weapons tactics for real and could do some of the stuff you see in the movies. Not everything, but a good portion.
He also was sick as shit during the nightclub sequence. I can barely jog when my temperature is 104F (40C) and he was doing all this for hours.
I love the fact he actually reloads!
Then because of their history he's given the night off b/c John doesn't want to kill him
"I want a puppy so bad!" That phrase is timeless it's not standard😅
“How is his back not broken?” This was me the first time I watched this With these movies I just suspend my disbelief and enjoy the ride

It was never about the Pup, It was the love that he lost.. The last bit of love she left him. THAT MAN IS BACK!...
Should watch the Princess Bride, “you killed my father now prepare to die” versus “ you stole my car and killed my dog now everyone is going to die”
"I wonder what he does because this is a really nice house." Oh bless your heart lol. I knew right then you where in for a ride.
Fun fact: The doctor was the same actor who played the Keymaker in The Matrix: Reloaded.
I always love people's first reactions to this film. The world building is incredible and there's so much character for a man who says very few lines.
He was also Master Oogway in Kung Fu Panda trilogy
I remember seeing this in the theatre and every single person crying out in outrage when they killed the puppy
Definitely. Even the toughest individual was broken by that scene...unless you’re Luca Magnotta, I guess 😏
I couldn’t stop crying
I love the purity of this movie. They hurt him so bad he just destroys them all. Awesome.
Great movie and a great reaction young lady. Keanu trained a lot for the action scenes and was trained by one of the best in combat firearms. This training is why it looked so fluid and real. Thanks for sharing your wonderful reactions.

Great reaction. Finally, someone that does not skip the best parts.
The cop didn't do anything because he knows John's real identity, so they made this scene feel like they both know what's up, but they pretend everything is fine :D
It's just light comedic relief after a bloody battle.
All three movies thus far have been absolute gold. I can't recommend the rest of the series enough

I've always presumed that, living in an affluent, relatively remote area, John's neighborhood either has its own small precinct, or whatever precinct they fall under has a corrupt CO that makes sure their area is covered by a group of cops that are 'on the take', so they're familiar with John and know not to interrupt him during "business".
Great reaction Arianna 🥰 and you are a dog lover to boot 👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Not just top tier, the pinnacle. He was THE best. Lol. Awesome resction! Kept all the good stuff in!
Keanu trains repeatedly with the same weapons that are filmed so that he does all of the movements accurately, for any film that involves guns.
You’re definitely going to enjoy the next two and the fourth when it hits networks, so glad Arianna reacted to John wick!
That was so easy because the cop knew John Wick could end him in a second and didn't want to die.
God, that poor, poor little puppy. Breaks my heart every time.
Nice little detail, John shot the son in the gut when he could've clearly just killed him on the spot. He wanted the boy to suffer for a few moments until he could do it up close and personal.
He could’ve killed him, a few times, @ the club, but where’s the fun in that? 😈
"Why is this so casual? Cause it's Jersey? I'm so confused!"

Hehe… you boutta find out for all three movies LMAOOOO
His money after he met has wife didn't come from being a hit man. Hence the secret chest in his basement. It came from restoring old and expensive antique books I believe the director said. Which is kind of cool too. :)

Loved your reaction. Yeah, the puppy gets people on board fast. I bet this movie makes Mike Vick a little uneasy.
You say true, I say thank you.
"It's no masterpiece...but it was still masterfully done."
At first, I thought about that early, but after watching masterful scene, after masterful scene, at some point it has to become a masterpiece.
Favorite part of seeing this for the first time is that little "oh" viggo gives when Aurelio tells him what his son did. Like you immediately get an idea of how dangerous John is when even the mob boss understands why you decked his son bc he screwed up catastrophicallu
I love watching women react to this movie…I know it’s kind of diabolical, but it makes me laugh.

"Once, 2 years ago, he killed 3 men in a bar with a pencil, a Fucking pencil." That's one way of describing him.
Love the reactions. "You have no honor sir" lmfao
I looove watching Arriana’s movie reactions but I didn’t like seeing her heart break like that. I know it’s all part of it and I don’t wish anything to change. It just triggered me or something, I don’t know. ❤
