    Another great video Gio. I agree, I see no reason to open a bank account in the Philippines. I've been with Schwab for about 2 years now and I couldn't be happier. I use them for my retirement and brokerage accounts, as well as their investor checking account. Everything under one roof couldn't be easier. Also, great customer service and no ATM fees. My only regret is that I didn't leave Bank of American and Merrell Edge sooner.

      Do you trade stocks in your Schwab brokerage account? I have Schwab and use it for trading stocks but I have been informed by Schwab that if I'm in the Philippines for 6 months or more, my Schwab account will be locked and I'll lose access to it. If I was to live in Thailand or Malaysia, there would not be an issue but there seems to be an issue with Schwab and living in the Philippines while trading stocks in their brokerage. I also have all my accounts with Schwab (investment, retirement, checking) and find it convenient but worried about getting cutoff from my accounts which I'd be using for my living expenses while overseas.

      My money stays in my 4 USA 🇺🇸 bank accounts only. I do have both GCash and Wise now, but have not used or set them up fully yet. Confused how to connect my WISE account to one of my USA bank accounts to put money in there, other than use "remitly" to transfer funds in!! Great video G man. Wise is so cool and I have setup up over 30 currencies of countries I want to visit in the future!! Health and Source or God willing!! No Philippines bank accounts for me, from what I have both heard and experienced one time myself!! 😮Happy holidays and New year's day to all, especially to my fellow vets and those still serving in theatres worldwide and in space!! ❤🎉😊! Go both Army( congrats on keeping the streak alive) and Navy, served in both proudly and honorably!! Hua and hooyah!! Real talk&Nuff Said! Any vets out there make sure you claim your military after service full benefits compensation. If you do not inquire, you will be leaving your money on the table for the VA to gourge!! It is there for the taking, 1. Get educated
      2. File and go through the process 3. If service connected and successful, it could be thousands upon thousands in back pay they reward you with!!
      4. Not to mention the tax free monthly earned income you will recieve for you and any dependents, if you file correctly.
      5. Font be fooled. ThIs is not charity or some bs program to be ashamed of, you rightly earned this because we were very lightly paid on up front compensation and it was more back end loaded with different benefits, that alot of our sister( ladies always first) and brothers in arms are not even aware that are out there. I know I wasn't and now getting some of mine and going for my 💯% now!! This will make life so much easier whether you remain in the USA or relocate like both Gio and I did to the Philippines 🇵🇭 for now!!

      I am an American and I flew to Manhattan and I opened an account at Philippine National Bank before I retired in Cebu. I actually needed two accounts: a dollar passbook account where I can deposit withdraw and receive dollars in person only, and a peso savings account with debit mastercard. I can write myself a check and deposit it for 100 pesos. It takes 30 days for checks to clear. All those wise transfers costs much more in fees and also a lower exchange rate from wise. Philippine National Bank has a branch in your country. it is much, much easier to open an account in person in your home country at:
      PNB RCC Mississauga Branch
      104-3050 Confederation Parkway
      Mississauga Ontario L5B 3Z6 Canada

    hey Gio thanks for this helpful info. with schwab; how are you handling the 2FA issue? skype US phone number doesnt work and ive heard that most voip numbers wont either. so is the only option to get an actual US sim activated in the US and pay their huge roaming fees? would be great to hear how people have solved this n the most economical way. thanks again and merry Christmas

      @napoleonmdusa8877 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yep, I'm hearing about that same issue with rejection of 2FA with VOIP connections. I'm considering T-mobile as an option but keep my phone on wifi (no roaming needed) unless ready for 2FA and switch the phone to cellular access (& roaming) for that short duration that I need to use it. This crap is getting to be a pain in the ass for getting access to our own hard-earned money as needed while we are living/traveling overseas.

    @DHarri9977 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The big issue in some cases is getting a replacement bank card sent to you, so if you do happen to run into that problem having a local bank account isn't a bad idea along with using a remittance company of your choice for having an easy way to access some cash. But again at some point, the atm card will expire some banks are better at handling the replacement process while others are so paranoid it becomes a hassle to actually receive the card.
    Having a local account reduces the need to constantly expose your US atm card in the Phils. Many of us have alternate US banks to access funds, having a local bank account is handy at times. I set up automatic monthly transfers to a second US bank account which saved me. Dealing with my primary bank concerning a replacement atm card was a disaster for the first few months was able to get it worked out while still having access to other funds.

    I'm similar. I have PayPal linked to my GCash and use that for a lot of transactions. Does Western Union work with a large cash movement? If you leave money in a bank account in the US be careful about secondary security. Having secondary security requires your US bank to ask you for your phone number, so they can text you a code number. IF your phone will not receive SMS texts from the US you will not be able to access you account. I agree with Gio, Wise and gcash is the way to go.

    • @KrayPurn
      @KrayPurn 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you can. However, it is important to remember that the Philippines is mostly a cash society. As such I would not recommend it. Also, the cashiers will more often than not write down your entire credit card number and all other card information on their copy of the receipt which is crazy and opens your account up to a possible fraudulent situation. G-Cash is widely used in the Philippines.

    I have always had difficulty with money in the PI. My credit cards don’t work even if i do tell them about travel ahead of time. Cash is easier, but it is also easy to lose. I did have a bank account, but it is very restrictive now. I lost the account due to inactivity. If you bring cash, change it at the airport or in the big city. I thought they were picky about money condition in the big city. It is ridiculous and disabling in the Province. Don’t make a fuss, it does no good. Rules are not uniform. It depends on if the planets line up or not. I was short $300 on my last trip because of a tear on the bills that the cashier put there. I nearly imploded, quietly. Money changer in Manila would have taken it.
    Another problem is, do you carry or leave it. Don’t put it in one spot. Spread it around. Hide it. I think Gio has those money bags that are anti-theft. Lockable and difficult to cut open.

I’m from the U.K. so I could either just use my existing bank account or open an offshore HSBC account based in Guernsey which effectively is a Global Bank so it doesn’t matter where you live. I suppose the only question is, how do you pay for monthly rent ? In cash or by a regular bank transfer?

      Actually, having looked at this in more detail I do see an advantage of having a WISE account with a WISE ATM CARD. You can hold multi currency accounts within the WISE account and transfer from a western currency to a WISE account in pesos at a good rate. Then you can buy things in pesos either by using the WISE ATM CARD to withdraw pesos from the peso account, or use it as a debit card and pay in pesos. So the key advantages are that you exchange your currency for pesos at a better rate than you would get at a bank and it also effectively gives you the ability to electronically hold and spend pesos without needing to have a Philippines bank. Also good for global currencies and travel. For example if you want to travel to Japan you can open a yen account linked to the same card and convert some of your currency into yen etc. So you never need a bank anywhere for currency transfers or conversion as the whole thing can be done on line with your wise account .
