Thank you the wonderful information on retiring in the Philippines.
I thought so also. Unfortunately, though this video was very thorough, it did not cover the US or foreign military veteran status, rather only the military retiree status, which are different and distinct statuses.
I have heard that the PHILIPPINES SRRV 🇵🇭 VISA dealing American Military 🪖 applies to all military 🪖 veterans 🇺🇸 🪖 who have served 🎖 Honorable service with American Military 🪖. I was stationed at Clark Air Base, Philippines 🇵🇭 back in 1991. Thank you for this information.
(I'm your new subscriber!) Atty., can you explain regarding property? Years ago, if you owned a lot and built a house before in the Philippines while you were still single and a Philippine citizen. That said property was intended for the aging parents for their residence. Now that you are living in US as a US citizen, married, and have one child. Now both parents passed away, can you "rebuild" or "reconstruct" the house without a problem? What are the requirements?
Yes, you can. Being a former natural-born Filipino citizen, you are still allowed to own a residential land in the Philippines. In fact, you did not lose ownership of that house and lot when you acquired a foreign citizenship. This is recognized by BP 185. As to the reconstruction, you need to observe the requirement of permit from the office building official of the locality.
Good food for thought. I fall in a lot of those categories you mentioned. I was born in the Philippines, whose parents were former Philippino Citizens, retired as a U.S. Army Officer, married to a former Philippino Citizen. I do plan on visiting the Philippines more often and stay longer than 30 days. I am told that, by my side of family, that there is property set aside for me in the Philippines. Which Visa should I get or should I become a dual citizen? Can I be a dual citizen ? Thank you for doing this video.
@cesar - were your parents Filipino citizens when you were born? If yes, then you're eligible for dual citizenship. If not, then you can apply for the SRRV expanded courtesy (ex military).
I have never heard of complications due to a dual citizenship. My wife did it in LA consulate for under $100 and the cost of a new Filipino passport. Other than that, she has never had a complication. Since the intro included this statement, it deserves more discussion. I’m retired. Annual reporting is not a “hassle “. Because my wife was dual, we paid NO tax on the household goods we shipped (3/4 container).
Why does the Philippines require a $1500 deposit on SRRV Courtesy Extended visa? Just like the standard SRRV needing to deposit $20k. Those deposits have always bugged me. The major benefit you get with an SRRV is multiple entry/exit and longer stay. 2 six month extensions cost me about $300+ per year up to 3 years. I go to Thailand for a small vacation and come back and extend another 3 years. With SRRV, initial costs, including deposit, is about $3k+. Am I missing something here towards the SRRV visa benefits and why they are better options?
There is no need to sugarcoat the SRRV. It was designed primarily to attract foreign investments and to strengthen the dollar reserves of the country. This intention was expressly stated in the Executive Order that created the Philippine Retirement System. While the system allows foreign nationals to retire indefinitely in the Philippines, it has to achieve its main purpose by requiring a minimum investment in the Philippines and that is in the form of a visa deposit, which in some cases can be converted to investments in Condominium, Long Term Lease or Golf Club. To make the retirement program more attractive, the PRA has designed some additional benefits to SRRV as I have discussed in the video. Stay safe. 😊
me too i felt bug for this 1,500 $dollar deposit not all retiree have full pension like my auntie her pension is maximum only of 1k. I'm glad Your Lawyer help us to understand this SRRV .
Thank you so much for making this video in English. This is the best one I've seen. My only question is, if I come in as a healthy senior and get a SRRV Classic, when/if I later become ill and need to go into a care home there in the PH, is my SRRV Classic still all I need? Or would I have to then get the SRRV Human Touch? I ask, because my SSA retirement is not large enough to qualify for the Human Touch visa. Thank you! By the way, where are you located?
Hello, my understanding about using your condo as a deposit for the SRRV is that the condo will be put under government control and if I die, my children will have a hard time getting the condo as inheritance.
Yes, that's correct. The govt is co-owner of your condo unit. If you're a former Filipino citizen and you don't want to be dual, the 13G visa (permanent residence) may be a better option.
I have had SRRV for 10 years. Has served me well and enabled me to work in the Philippines although you still need an Alien Employment Permit. The one thing I complain about it the yearly $365 renewal fee. Also, I think it would be cool if they awarded you permenant residency after 10 years.
Nice informative video. Can i apply for the SRRV visa here in the USA before going to the Philippines to be able to stay there for more than thirty days?
You have to be in the Philippines to do the process. I've been doing my homework on it for quite some time now. I'll be headed to the Philippines next week. I understand the process takes 6 to 8 weeks.
Hello. Wanted to know more about the SRRV Expanded Courtesy. I am a U.S. Navy retired and planning on traveling more to our home country and spending more time there without the limited stay requirement. Thank you for your time and advise in this matter.
See info at pra gov ph. If you're a forner Filipino citizen, you can also apply for dual citizenship (I don't know if that's allowed since you're former military) or you can apply for permanent residency (13G visa). Info at Immigration gov ph.
Good afternoon from Antwerp Belgium? Sir, kailan ko ba mag deposit as senior lang to retire to the Philippines? At magkano po . Maraming salamat sa sagot . Thanks sa mga information.
Hi. Hindi nyo po kailangan ng deposit. Dual citizenship is allowed by Belgium, so pwede po kayo mag apply maging dual citizen (PH/ Belgium). As dual citizen, you can live forever in PH.
Salamat interesting, rather confusing, when a Filipino comes to the UK and wants to be a British citizen it is very straight forward, even to extend a visa for 5 years, very straight forward, we would never try to bond people for money in different stages, that would be considered as RACIST. when a Filipino in the UK wants to buy a FREEHOLD property etc etc we would never say sorry has to be 60/40% and the British/English person will own 60% and you a foreigner can only own 40$% despite you paying 100% Hu hard luck Talaga , this is a the Filipino protectionism short sighted law you currently have, that once again in 97% of Western countries is against the law and classed as RACIST towards a foreign person, when will the Filipino Government come into this CENTURY?..ingat
This restriction on foreign ownership is enshrined in the Constitution. Unlike a legislation which can be changed by Congress at anytime, a constitutional change or amendment is truly an uphill challenge. Thus far, not a single administration has succeeded since the 1987 Constitution.

Hello attorney. I'm a dual citizen, my husband is a foreign national and we are retiring in the Philippines in a couple of years. I don't understand why PRA would require a deposit (a big amount at that). What is it exactly for and why? This is like a bail bond - you are free to live in the Philippines but then you are tethered to your bail bond. And then there's the Php350 a year fee which I thought that if you have an SRRV visa you are exempted from that.
To be candid about it, the SRRV is designed primarily to boost the dollar reserves of the Philippines. And it can happen only if the Philippine government sets a requirement on inward remittances of foreign currencies. In your case, you still have options which are more cost-effective, and I am referring to the spousal visa (13a) and the balikbayan visa (13g).
@@YourLawyer thanks for your response attorney. I will check on the 13a and 13g. We have 16 months to go before we hit retirement and we can't wait to go back. You have been very helpful and we appreciate you so much. Blessings!
@@cumali6187 13a is visa that allows foreign spouses of Filipino citizens to apply for a permanent resident visa whereas 13g is visa that allows Filipino citizens who have now acquired foreign citizenship by naturalization.
Excellent info, thank you. Quick question: Does one need to visit Philippines to obtain SRRV Visa or one can obtain with the help of Embassy or Consulate of his country of residence. Kindly throw some light
Kung asawa mo po cya (at PH citizen/ dual citizen ka po), your foreign spouse can apply for the 13A visa (spouse visa, he'll be a PR). No deposit needed with the PH govt. No yearly fee of $360.
I'll stick with my 13a spouse visa. Cheaper to get, minimal renewal fees. If the wife and I break up, we sell the house ( prenuptial agreement), I get my house purchase price back, then I go back to US. I do not have to worry about getting SSRV deposit back.
Hello. The explanation of ssrv is excellent but I still have a question that wasn't answered there. I am a sss pensioner in the US. I have read some articles that say that the pension would be stopped if the pensioner stayed out of the US for over six months. My question is, would the SSR visa guarantee that my pension would not be stopped for staying out of the US longer than six months? Thanks a lot for anybody who would answer this.
Not sure if the SRRV requirements have changed since I obtained mine, the the Expanded Courtesy was allowed for military veterans (not retired military) who could show proof of an Honarable Discharge.
Be carefull guys you can get the visas but the process will suck and dry up your pockets. After you get the visa its not like other countries, since everytime you exit the Philippines you need to pay exit fees, annual fees, security fees, etc. Which is the 1950's law. Which will add to your expenses and regret it. Also the foreign countries should have a reciprocal agreement to levy the same charges for exit purposes for Filipinos who have working and permanent visas, in Europe and the USA, which would be fair to all.

What is the alternative to SRRV? ACR I Card + continual visa renewals but no Philhealth? Seems like the deposits are pretty heavy especially if they are only refunded if you leave the country or die?
Yeah, it’s a fabulous deal for former military. Otherwise, you tie up at least $10,000 until you leave the Philippines permanently. It looks like it’s easy enough to apply that 10k towards a condo of over $50,000. I’ll probably just make sure the deposit can go to my Philippine family once I die.
@@BambooTom if you go through the condo route, the PH govt is a co-owner of the condo, so think 10x if going through that route. If you're ex military, then the deposit is only $1500. @@BearInThePhillipines He stated that he was disabled. The SRRV Human Touch Visa, for those requiring medical care requires a monthly pension of at-least $1,500 USD. His $920 falls short of that. I spent years in the Philippines after i retired in California....i spent millions of pesos in supporting Philippine economy...i love the Philippines and its people...i wonder if i choose to retire in the Philippines if the Philippine government would give me some credit for the 10 or 15 times i visited the Philippines....i would love to retire in the Philippines.
Thank you the wonderful information on retiring in the Philippines.
What exactly do you mean by "some credit"?
Props and thanks!
If you are a US veteran the deposit in the bank is much less 1500$. Tourist visa can be extended up to 3 years,

I thought so also. Unfortunately, though this video was very thorough, it did not cover the US or foreign military veteran status, rather only the military retiree status, which are different and distinct statuses.

Stay safe. 😊
What are affordable housing choices you made for your 6 months each time?
me too i felt bug for this 1,500 $dollar deposit not all retiree have full pension like my auntie her pension is maximum only of 1k.
He didn't discuss the annual fee. That is expensive.

YES I AM INTERESTED TO RETIRE IN THE PHILIPPINES
Fly over and land in Vietnam or Thailand . Cleaner and cheaper . Way better food. Rules don't change every other day.
I am a former Navy vet, I am planning a trip to Makati for six months. I also offer Expats tax servides.

Blessings!
@@midlifewanderings what is 13a and 13 g?
@@cumali6187 13a is visa that allows foreign spouses of Filipino citizens to apply for a permanent resident visa whereas 13g is visa that allows Filipino citizens who have now acquired foreign citizenship by naturalization.
We have the same question.
Excellent info, thank you. Quick question: Does one need to visit Philippines to obtain SRRV Visa or one can obtain with the help of Embassy or Consulate of his country of residence. Kindly throw some light
Are you saying I would have to have been an officer in the US military to get an SRRV? I can't be just an enlisted veteran?
paano po kung walang dependent magkano kaya ang annual fee ng foreigner..; laki din ng 360 dollars oer year..
I have watched your videos for a year now. Could you help me in getting a SRRV?
Good Morning from Phil Atty, what if the SRRV holder died, what will happen to the Deposited ammount with PRA accredited bank? Thankyou, god bless

Hi I just seen your video on visa srrv iam from USA been here for 9 months I plan on staying here am 62 retired looks like only visa for me be 20 thousand deposit has this changed
There's an SRRV category wherein the deposit required is 10k usd but you need to provide prpof of income (pension, 401k, from rental properties, etc). If no proof of income, the deposit required is 20k usd.
Very expensive and somewhat complex and would be hard to find the high amounts of money for deposit !!! An be in contact with immigration and a lawyer !!! Before or at the beginning when starting out as a Tourist Visa !!! Why do we need to deposit esp if we don’t have the money
