Nice to hear from you Martin and congrats, your channel is doing great. I thought I was invincible, would appear not, just a blip, be back out camping and exploring very soon, all the best Pat
Pat, glad you’ve shared your experiences on ‘mental health awareness day’. There won’t be anyone in this country not affected by the big C at some point (directly or indirectly) this will be on TH-cam for a long time and I’m sure someone will watch it who is at their lowest ebb, let’s hope it helps pick them up and point them towards a positive outcome. Well done and good luck for the future 👍 S

It's a difficult subject to broach especially whether to tell the wider public or just keep it close to family and friends but thanks for sharing it with us Pat. Nice to hear from you Sandy, like you say difficult one, decided to tell everybody as I meet a lot of people who recognise me, I would say yes I, am all OK, but I was,nt, and could no say why. A lot happier now people know, I like to be honest with people. Looking forward now, several wildcamps panned and really looking forward to waking up high in the hills looking down on my city of Sheffield, Pat
No one is invincible Pat. There will be many who watch this and think it will never happen to them. Unfortunately life has it's way with us and we will all need the NHS for various reasons sooner or later. I personally live with a type of brain tumour called acoustic neuroma. Most of the tumor was removed many years ago but a fragment was left due to its location and is now growing again. Luckily it is slow growing and I am monitored occasionally. Like you I am quite well at the moment.
@@WiltshireMan Hi Sandy just found your latest message, yes life can throw all sorts of surprises at you, I had read about your tumor you had on your website, I must admit I thought everything was OK, but as long as they monitor it that's good. I suppose medical treatments have advanced if you needed more treatment. I have followed your channel since I started out, and you have always impressed me with your many hobbies, interests and adventures, long may they continue, all the best Pat
So much love and respect for you Patrick, sir. I love Sheffield and you've opened up many more secrets of the city through your videos. My young son enjoys your channel too. Thanks so much.
Patrick thank you for this video and a fantastic discussion of the treatment of thyroid cancer from a patient’s perspective. I am a recently retired thyroid cancer nurse specialist and I can say it is an excellent presentation of the diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of thyroid cancer. All the best for the future. Ken
Thanks Ken, I suppose I followed the whole procedure through and it was the dominating thing in my life for a year. Had a check up a few weeks ago and any indicators in my blood are non existent so basically all cured, obviously further check ups to follow. I,am on 150 micro grams of thyroxine and the consultant said he would lower it to 125, so all things looking good. Stay safe and all the best to you at this worrying time, thanks Pat
Bloody hell Pat ...! I’m so pleased your ok fella as your a total legend and your videos bring back so many memories of areas I lived in. You stay safe and well mate...! Huge Respect Oakbrook Simon
THANK YOU PATRICK for your idea to make public your struggles in this video which is partly matter of fact, party filled with touchingly restrained emotions. I do understand very well why you felt the need to tell your story and why you were ill at ease to speak about it beforehand. I will follow your videos from now on. And I wish you the best Patrick!!!
Thank you Barbara at first I thought I could hide my problem with my thyroid, but people who I met asked me how I was and I would say all Ok, I, am happier now everyone knows what was wrong and I no longer have to hide things. Feeling fine now and looking forward to getting back out wildcamping, all the best Pat
Hi pat really pleased to hear that you have come through your odeal .lost my lovely wife to this awful disease in January this year and only found your channel recently.you are an inspiration to all take care and keep strong
Thanks Malcolm and so sorry to hear about your loss, life can be so fragile at times, must,nt take it for granted, more wild camping soon, all the best Pat
Glad you're in remission now. 👍All the best. My wife had breast cancer and a years full treatment regime in 2014 to 2015. It's a tough challenge indeed.
Thanks for your comments yes it is hard and a lot of us are going to face the same challenge one day, I class myself as very lucky, mine was so easily treated, all the best Pat
I've noticed the scars and have wondered if that was the case. I'm so thankful you're O.K. Having lost a number of loved ones to cancer in the last few years I realise how precious life is and that we shouldn't take it for granted. You're in my thoughts and prayers.
Big Fan of yours Pat, must have watched almost all your Vids, and commented on few. So Pleased to hear you're recovered. Very Best Wishes from Me and all your followers Roj
Hi Patrick, I can understand that this was not an easy decision for you to make, by going public with such a personal condition is not a route for everyone. However, your natural outgoing willingness to share your lifestyle and interests, is I believe entirely consistent with your decision to share your health experience with us. Thanks and Yes you’re right, seeing you scampering across the mist laden fells and scaling up hazardous security defences, no one would have guessed you were less than well at the time. I, like many of your followers have dealt with serious health issues in my life and they are undoubtedly daunting realisations that simply go to prove that ‘we are not invincible’. ‘No man is an island entire of itself’ and these moments prove that we all need to rely upon others to get by at some time in our lives. Our National Health Service is, beyond question ‘second to none’ and my wife I were very grateful for the dedication and expert attention I received when I was diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer. Well done and good luck with your future adventures. Long may we be able to share them with you, and I mean that ‘from both sides of the screen’........! With 23k followers so far, it indicates that you are most probably ‘on the right track’
Thank you for those great comments, alot of truth in what you say, and full gratitude to our NHS, I like to be honest with people and it has helped, all the best Pat
Thanks for sharing Pat . I had the same issues years ago . Synthroid is the name here for the Meds . Let's get on with some wild camping . Dan from Canada out .
You have 23100 subscribers Pat. At the time of writing 500 people have left a comment, and rising fast. I would hazard a guess therefore that 23000 people see you as a mate. And that's how you come across. Feel the warmth in it matey!
Thanks Stuart, feeling great and ready to get back out wildcamping, like the look of that roast beef you did, might try that in my oven, all the best Pat

Hi Pat. As a Yorkshireman now living in Kent, I miss my hometown of Sheffield and the Peak District very much. I also love walking, exploring and wild camping, so watching your videos and listening to your familiar accent gives me no end of pleasure. I was so shocked to see the title of this video, but then so pleased to hear that you are now well. Keep up the good work, take care and "see you in a bit.." All the best, David
Thanks for the caring thoughts David, feeling fine now, very lucky and grateful to the NHS. You probably won, t recognise Sheffield, half The Moor has been demolished and sky scrapers going up all over, and the place is full of 1000,s of students,. Luckly y the beer is still very good, all the best Pat

They don't make blokes like you anymore mate, top bloke, a legend even and an inspiration to us all. I hope to be like you if and when I reach your age. I thought something was up and everyone i know that watches your channel including my girlfriend said that somethings not right with Patrick. We were all really worried about you mate but I'm so glad and happy for you now. Brave man to sit and tell us your story. I lost my father to cancer when I was only 13, it's an awful thing. But as you said, research and cures have come a long way. Take your time pal and look after yourself, none of us think less of you, you're a national treasure to us all! On a lighter note, I bet you've got some moves on the dance floor! Lol. Atb Tom.
Thanks Tom so kind of you to say and thanks for your vidios I enjoy watching them with both of you on your camps. Feel fine and will be back out camping soon, all the best Pat
Patrick, As someone who spent the first 6 months of this year, staggering from one medical crisis to another, I salute you. It can mean so many things and not a lot of them are positive. I used to lay in hospital watching your videos and they took me away from the fear, boredom and awkward treatments that can dominate life on the ward. When you put out those canoe videos there were a fair few of your fans who were concerned about your health. Looking to the future now. Wild camps especially in bleak, inhospitable weather. Yes please. I used to lie in my hospital bed , window cracked open so that there was a small draft that nobody else noticed, if I was lucky the sound of rain on the glass. I was there with you Patrick, sheltered down behind a rock, bed clothes tucked up and my ear plugs in. Nearly had another heart attack every time the nurse came round to do their "obs". Will you be doing some more "tree camping". For some reason that really caught my wife's imagination, who knew. Here's to many more videos, more real ale and proper pubs, railway journeys and dare I encourage more expeditions with a telescopic ladder. I think they should change the Keep Out notices by adding "Except Patrick Dickinson". Stay strong Patrick, Britain Needs You. Lloyd.
Thank you Lloyd for those really touching comments, I can understand how you must of felt, in hospital and missing the fresh air and wind in your face. So happy that my vidios have brought you pleasure and helped, definitely back out soon, got my rucksack packed already, tree camping may have to wait until next year, so much rain, all the best Pat
That’s so sad to hear Patrick you’re a wonderful man & a inspiration to many & been a fellow Sheffielder I wish you a speedy recovery stay strong 💪🏻 pal .🥃 Iv not watched yet still at work just the headline made me jump .
Sorry to hear you’ve had a tough time Pat- good to hear the news that it’s all been sorted now, and you can carry on enjoying life whilst also making interesting videos for us to watch! Looking forward to the next wildcamp...! Best wishes to you x
Good to see you are over it Patrick, my wife and I have both had the same issue as you over the years, she had cancer in her thyroid and had it all removed I am having it all removed fingers crossed within the next month as I have repeated graves disease which has affected me for the past 5 years. love your wild camping channel as I am getting into it too here in Norway :)
Thanks Mark and hope your both ok , never new anything about our thyroid until recent problems, thought I was invincible, anyway feeling fine now and a new wild camping vidio out in a few hours, nice to hear from Norway, all the best Pat
So sorry to hear this - hope you will be fine! I must confess I thought something was wrong as I went through your videos. I was concerned. I love your channel. God bless.
Bloody ell! You lived from one appointment to the next and yet still put out some great films! Very well done, your an absolute star. Take it easy stay healthy and keep us in your adventures.
Patrick, I really like watching your videos. I did a five week hospital stay last year and l spent lots of time watching your videos over and over again. People grumble about the state of the NHS but they saved my life which I will be eternally grateful, I thank each and everyone who helped me. I'm so pleased that you are on the up and look forward to you next video. Take care Pat, you have some very genuine followers that wish you and your family well x
You’re a star Pat, and I’m so pleased you’ve made a full recovery, I’ve loved watching all your videos, and you’ve inspired me to get out and explore the Peak District plus try wild camping, which has brought a lot of enjoyment to my life. Thank you for your part in that, and I look forward to many more videos. All the best, Richard.
God bless you Patrick you're an inspiration to us all. I love your videos as I was born in Sheffield in 1960 and spent the first 14 years of my life there. I have beautiful memories of the area and your videos bring back so many emotions, I've lived in Vancouver Canada since 1974 and the last time I visited there was 79. Stay strong and healthy and positive you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Hi Chris and glad my vidios bring back memories, city is changing all the time with new buildings going up, alot of it for student accommodation. I, am feeling fine and lots of more videos to come, thanks Pat
Hi Patrick , I am a 40 something forklift truck driver from Scotland who watches your videos religiously. I have bought a tent and started going out on the hills again. I'm looking at a Kawasaki er650 for next year. So you could say your videos have had a little bit of an effect on me. I'm sending my best wishes your way, and just want to say thank you for all the effort you put into making your videos. I look forward to each and every one of them, long may they keep coming. All the best.
Biggest revelation here was the ballroom dancing thing! Bless you Pat. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. May the wind be gentle on your tent.
Glad you will be fine Patrick. I had a cancer issue three years ago and now, fortunately I'm doing fine. I was surprised at the amount of support from my friends in the ham radio community, amazing. When I was in agony for the six months or so before my op, I used to dream that I would go camping, with my little Caterham Seven and see more of the UK. I also dreamt about buying a pair of Loake Royal brogue shoes in burgundy (thats another story) and I indeed fulfilled that dream! Anyway, I suppose my point is, that now I have a new lease of life, I'm determined to get my camping gear together and get out there next year, YOU have been part of my story too! I've watched several of your vids and have found them very educational. I won't be walking that much, as now my mobility is not as good since the op, BUT I will be living the dream, as soon as the warmer weather arrives. Thank you sooo much Patrick, wishing you a speedy recovery- cheers, Keith
I found out I had bladder cancer in February. I was scared initially, but decided I was going to get out of this alive. After months of chemo and an 8 hour surgery I will, like you, make a full recovery. It’s been a tough journey, and I am not done with the rehab yet. But this time next year I will be 90% back to normal. Good luck with your recovery.
Bad news Pat but it doesn't necessarily mean its the end, curtains etc etc..my dad got lung Cancer about 25 years ago and after treatment he recovered fully, we didn't think he would!!! They can do a lot with Cancer these days, no longer the death sentence that it once was. I remember when i was a kid, the 1960s and early 1970s, if you got a diagnosis then you said your goodbyes etc etc, several of my relatives got it and they were all dead within a year or so. No longer though Pat, they might not be able to cure yours but hopefully they'll be able to keep it under control so you can live your life as usual, chin up mate, keep , keep your pecker up etc etc. And don't forget to keep us informed, we're all here rooting for you mate...
I know you've had a lot of comments on this Patrick, but I want to add that I'm very pleased and happy that you are ok and really enjoy the hard work that you put into your videos. It is very brave of you to have made and published this news onto TH-cam and I sincerely hope that you continue a healthy life long into the future - not only for us here on your channel but for you as a person and your family - you are clearly one of life's 'good ones'. As you can see with many of the comments on here, we all appreciate and enjoy the time, effort and knowledge that you share with us. Thanks Patrick, all the best.
Really nice comments there, and I, am overwhelmed with so many thoughtful comments I have received. Was in two minds whether to put this vidio on, it seemed pointless trying to hide it what had happened, and might even help people in a similar condition, so decided to share my story, certainly feels better and makes life simple. Feeling very well now and eager to get back out exploring and wildcamping, all the best Pat
I'm so happy that they successfully rid you of cancer! My friend of 66 yrs wasn't so lucky. She got diagnosed with lung cancer from a routine x-ray last October, then a scan but it was too late because it had developed to terminal. She caught covid just before xmas was sent into hospital and then sent home to live out the short time she had left and she passed away in May! Devastating!
Mine was so easy compared to alot of people, must admitt although I new I would be OK it scared me and mentaly was very scary, still scares me if I think too much about it. Looking to the furure now, thanks Pat
I've just lost my brother to cancer so the title really hit me. But so glad to see your treatment has been successful and I'm looking forward to watching more of your adventures.
All the best, Patrick. You can beat this thing - I did. Mine was testicular 16 years ago and I'm still well and free. The same one killed my dad, so it shows how things have moved on and how important catching it early is. Keep posting and you know we are all behind you...

Hi Patrick. Glad you're doing well. Just to say that I've been down the same road as you. All the scans and hospital visits, fine needle aspiration, removal of my thyroid (and tumour) and radioactive iodine treatment, although I spent five days in isolation at the hospital for that. Bravo Patrick. A sad but honest, heartfelt & supportive video of your illness. I'm sure it will give sufferers like yourself peace of mind and knowledge of what they might have to go through. If folks watch your cancer story first , then watch your outdoor vlogs, they will realise that life can go on regardless of the problem. Well done Patrick. Hope you make a full recovery and also make more videos. Look forward to them. Best wishes. Ken in Canada. Ex-Pat from Ashton Under Lyne. Stay safe.
Bloody hell! What a headline! I'm chuffed that the treatment has gone well, cancer is by far our biggest fear and with my dad currently having treatment for Prostate cancer (sadly advanced), I really get pleased when someone has fought the evil disease and beaten it! Good luck for the future, and thanks for sharing, not only this experience, but all of them.
Yes bit of a shocking title, but difficult knowing what to say. I was lucky, early diagnosis and fairly straight forward to treat. Thanks for the kind thoughts, Pat
PATRICK: My beloved 73-year-old partner had this in 2008 - the same year I had a major cardiac arrest owing to 'Complete Cardiac Block'. He still goes to the gym three times a week; and is more fit than any man of 73 ought to be!!! Hope you have the same prognosis and life-extension that we both have!

Great to hear from you, I, am feeling fine and soon be back out in the hills, and down in the drains, all the best Pat
Can't cap the 'Man of Steel' comment. Look forward to seeing Patrick's exploits for many years to come.
My favourite quote from this video “Ruffti Tuffti Adventurous lifestyle “ brilliant
Well that is how I would describe myself, and I try and live up to it, thanks Pat

Thanks David yes lots of little giveaways, that's why I wanted to be truthful so people new, feeling great now, thanks for your comments Pat
Big Fan of yours Pat, must have watched almost all your Vids, and commented on few.

Roj
Thanks Roj really nice of you to say, I, am feeling fine now, and my tent is already packed ready to go, thanks Pat
Hi Patrick,
I can understand that this was not an easy decision for you to make, by going public with such a personal condition is not a route for everyone.
Blimey Pat! What a shock mate!!! I'm so happy you got the all clear! "Good on yer mate" my best regards and wishes. George
Thanks Gearge, yes a shock to me as well, got my head round it now, I was lucky, straightforward treatment and the future looks good, all the best Pat

You have 23100 subscribers Pat. At the time of writing 500 people have left a comment, and rising fast. I would hazard a guess therefore that 23000 people see you as a mate. And that's how you come across. Feel the warmth in it matey!
Yes unbelievable amount of caring comments, people are so kind, hopefully not all 23000 or I will wear it my finger, all the best Pat

@@patrickdickinson6492 Thanks for your reply Pat. Yes, my wife and I were surprised how the city centre was looking on our last visit. Glad the Peak District doesn't change much. Agree on the beer...here's to your good health and many more adventures in the future 🍻
Keep strong Pat. Your a top bloke. Hope to see many more adventures in the future. Best wishes.
Thanks Steve, yes many more adventures planned back out soon, thanks Pat
My heart sank when I saw the title, I’ve always enjoyed your videos. So glad to hear it’s all sorted 👍
Yep all sorted, feeling fine now thanks Pat
Alls I can say is thank God beer was on the list, so glad to hear that your ok, keep up the good vids we all love them, best wishes mate!
Patrick,
As someone who spent the first 6 months of this year, staggering from one medical crisis to another, I salute you.
Wow! What a guy! Have been a subscriber for a couple of years. So pleased you have beaten this. 🔥🔥🔥
Yes it's all up and forwards now, thanks Pat
I've missed you Pat,and I'm so glad you're going to be OK. I'LL be watching for the coming videos and God Bless you .

Thanks yes difficult year but feeling fine now and looking forward to getting back out wildcamping, all the best

God bless.
Sheffields Finest man Outdoors, glad you have recovered.
Yes all looking good, thanks Pat
Really nice comments Stuart, hope your doing well now and grateful for the NHS, thanks Pat
So glad you’re well again Patrick. Best wishes 😊
Thanks Steven yes feeling great and looking forward to getting back out there, all the best Pat
You’re a star Pat, and I’m so
pleased you’ve made a full recovery, I’ve loved watching all your videos, and you’ve inspired me to get out and explore the
Peak District plus try wild camping, which has brought a lot of enjoyment to my life. Thank you for your part in that, and I look forward to many more videos. All the best, Richard.
Thank you Richard, yes amazing place our there, my rucksack is packed ready to go, all the best Pat
Was just thinking about you last week.. So happy you are on the mend!
Yes feeling very well at the moment, thanks for your thoughts, Pat
Thank you Peter and nice to hear from you, thanks for your kind thoughts, all the best Pat
Bless you mate, live long and prosper
Thanks appreciate that all the best Pat
Will you visit another storm drain?
Also it’s great that you have recovered
Hi there. You're such a warm and pleasant guy that it's no wonder the comments, here, reflect that.
Appreciate that, thanks Pat
Thank you sooo much Patrick, wishing you a speedy recovery-
cheers, Keith
Yes agreed cannot believe the kind support I have had on here, and it really helps, all the best with the future, all the best Pat
Glad it's looking good for you Anthony, all the best Pat
Very honest and brave chat Patrick, wish you well in your continued recovery. A fine son of Sheffield.
Well Done Patrick, love your videos
I've just lost my brother to cancer so the title really hit me. But so glad to see your treatment has been successful and I'm looking forward to watching more of your adventures.
All the best, Patrick. You can beat this thing - I did. Mine was testicular 16 years ago and I'm still well and free. The same one killed my dad, so it shows how things have moved on and how important catching it early is. Keep posting and you know we are all behind you...
Yes Mick catching it early seems to be the answer to alot of these cancers, glad you beat it, and all the best for the future, Pat
Kinder, Wild camping, Tree Climbing, Canals or Tunnels, Home made camping ovens have been/are/continue to be/will be, inspirational and educational videos. Your message, entwined with personal and educational reflections on your Cancer journey is, educational and inspirational. Thank-you Patrick. All the best for the future journey. Enjoy your Wild Camping.
Thank you Steven, very thoughtful words, I was very lucky and intend getting back out camping very soon, all the best Pat
Sorry to hear of your health issues, the main thing is your a survivor, love your videos Patrick, I love too getting to see some of 🏴 England, keep up the good work and God bless.
Glad it was found early and treated Pat. Hope your recovery proceeds without any hitches.
Wonderful Patrick. So glad your well and looking foreword to more of your wild camping. Oh yeah. It’s true god made beer!!! Cheers
PS.Told my daughter living in South Korea about you because she was at Sheffield University and your vids are a fantastic nostalga help.Give her happy moments of seeing the Sheffield area for sure. Be Blessed.
Thanks Zdenek, yes could imagine them bringing back happy memories form her time at uni, thanks Pat
Hi Patrick. Glad you're doing well. Just to say that I've been down the same road as you. All the scans and hospital visits, fine needle aspiration, removal of my thyroid (and tumour) and radioactive iodine treatment, although I spent five days in isolation at the hospital for that. I'm on Levothyroxine, my voice is sometimes a little croaky and I get tired easily but my scar is hardly noticeable. All the best for the future.
Hi Paul, exactly the same treatment and same medication, must be the standard treatment, interesting to talk to you, thanks Pat
Oh Pat darling i am so glad, you will be ok. Lovely to see you bravely informing others, of your battles. Regarding your illnes, im glad you have beaten it. God bless you and keep you safe 💕 you are such a treasure good fella.
Thank you Mary, it was a shock at the time, especially as I,am very rarely I'll at all, but grateful to the NHS that everything has worked out OK, thanks Pat
Bless you Patrick so glad to hear you are ok though 👍
Bravo Patrick. A sad but honest, heartfelt & supportive video of your illness. I'm sure it will give sufferers like yourself peace of mind and knowledge of what they might have to go through. If folks watch your cancer story first , then watch your outdoor vlogs, they will realise that life can go on regardless of the problem. Well done Patrick. Hope you make a full recovery and also make more videos. Look forward to them. Best wishes. Ken in Canada. Ex-Pat from Ashton Under Lyne. Stay safe.
Thanks Kenneth
Thanks Mark, sound very reassuring, I, am sure I will have the same, all the best Pat
Hello Patrick, as an ex international student at Sheffield Hallam, I must say that I know Sheffield much better after watching your videos than what I personally try to discover during my two years as student.. Very grateful
Your very welcome Minji, hopefully I've shown you a few of Sheffield's lesser know areas, thanks Pat
nice video, glad you're properly on the mend Patrick. Your wildcamping videos are the best and what first brought us all here, so great! news
Waaw, what a shock, thank God your fine. Greetings from the Netherlands and hope to see a lot more video’s of you. I like them. Thank you.
Hi Pat. Not only do we share the same city, but the same birthday! Wow ☺️. Keep that Sheffield steel running through those veins! Im sure you will have at least 23,000 people wishing you well.👍Looking forward to your upcoming adventures.
So many people and so many kind thoughtful comments, happy birthday for the 24th, thanks Pat
So glad to hear that you have come through your battle with positivity. Life is so short, we have to make the most of it, and enjoy it to the fullest. Really enjoy your videos, and looking forward to seeing many more......
Glad to see your doing well Pat 👍 Keep the wild camping and the Timothy Taylors coming.
Thanks Frank, all looking good now, feel fine and recent tests were all good, thanks Pat
Wishing you good health and a long life, from Wales, Patrick. I look forward to you sharing future wild camps with us.
Good call posting this video Pat, and I'm sure the number of positive comments on here will show you the respect with which you are held by so many people.
Thanks for your story pat. Better to talk about it definitely. I'm wild camping right now 650m up in the lake district! Tent pole snapped but I am using a walking pole to hold my tent up so it's all good. All the best.
Sounds like your having a a great time, thanks Pat
Thank you for the adventure you have showed me in your video s and the history of some of the stuff you explore is out standing
Iv claimed trees because of your video s and hope you continue to make these all the best Patrick and thank you
