    10 years from now the 708 will be considered a big heavy piece of crap drill as they will have something much lighter, smaller,twice the power, built in wifi, gps tracker , a camera and an hd screen for surfing the net .

      I'm sure we will have autonomous drills that don't need humans at all.

    I have the 708 and it works great for stuff around the house. If I am doing super heavy duty stuff I bust out the 996, but for the money, the 708 is a trusty tool that gets the job done.

    Great job - Thanks for sharing! I am deciding which one would work the best for me, and I think I will end up going with the 708. Unfortunately I usually buy from Lowes and although they have the 777, it does not appear they are stocking the the 708.

    Useful review. I just used a borrowed 777 to put a couple of 1/2” holes in horse fencing to hang a gate. Did a great job. The grip was quite comfortable. Guess I will have to check out 708 at HD to compare.

    Compare hole amounts with 2 different battery isn't the best choice for comparison. Aside from this its a very good in depth review.
    That paint issue is really an issue. I really wont expect this from DeWalt.

      All their drills have the same issue. That's why I'll never buy one of them

    One thing that is rarely reviewed is how well the chuck holds. Since cordless drills went to keyless checks, they often do not hold that great.Also, what is the minimum size for the chuck. To get more grip surface they often sacrifice the smallest bit sizes.

    • @mangquelhayes1426
      @mangquelhayes1426 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have put tape on smaller bits to give the chuck more bite. Now all the newer sets come with a rapid load so it tightens down pretty good.

    4:23 only 30ft-lb of torque, that means ~40Nm? The user manual for both says up to 65Nm in gear one. That torque can be achieved only with bigger battery?

    Great analysis. Just bought the 708C2 on the clearance rack at Home Depot. $89. Must have been a mistake, drill, 2 batteries, charger, and DeWalt bag. Got a laugh when you were disassembling the two dewalts, used a kolbalt.

    So the DCD703 is the slightly cheaper cost wise, as well as smaller if that's what you need. With the DCD777 it's slightly better in terms of battery, torque, and power but less in speed by like .3 seconds overall. I'll go with the DCD777! only $120 at lowes, and works with the 1.5 Ah battery I have now for my Dewalt impact DCF885. Thanks for your well made video! Loved seeing it taken apart

    You should have swapped out the batteries with each other to check the performance of the drills especially since it’s easy to buy larger Dewalt batteries if so desired.

    Real world experience....its too light for roof decking. Felt like my arm was pushing all day. 18V still works and just the weight of the tool helps drive screws in faster. Little heavier but nothing to cry about.

    • @chuckjordan7951
      @chuckjordan7951 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can understand how one could feel that but I have to disagree, you don’t need to push harder because it’s a fraction lighter, let the tool to the work.

    Bought the 708 kit today. It feels more like my impact drill than my other b&d drills. I mean, the speed goes up exponentially and runs away if you're not careful. And like my impact drill, the speed selection isn't that obvious. But either mode, when I run it at low speed it makes this weird rattling noise but that might be because this guy at home depot dropped it on the concrete. I should have walked away after that but I already spent 30 mins trying to get someone to break one out of prison. Also frustrating is that all the dewalt drills at hd have the model number on the back which you can't see. At my local hd, you can't pick up the drills and turn around because they're locked in, and unfortunately, many of the dewalt drills look very similar so I didn't have a chance to check out the 777.

    My brand new 708 clutch started clicking while chucking it up in my hand like it was set on #3 instead of the drill bit setting. 👿 It’s done it twice now. Then led is easily blocked out while using, never had that problem with it up under the clutch.

      The clicking is the clutch doing it's job. Make sure it's set in highest setting or screw mode for driving heavy screws.
