    Best tutorial, thank you. For some reason though, I have no audio. Question: can I still access my files from the other partition by creating a shortcut to them on the Pop desktop or should I move them over to the Pop partition? I might just delete windows all together after I get the hang of Pop.
    Also, can you please make videos on how to install and play games downloaded from torrents on Pop! Op system? All the other videos I found are all over the place.
    Stay awesome!

      Never mind about those first comments. I changed the audio output in the settings and figured I could keep my files exactly where they were until I deleted Windows and removed the partition. Only took a moment to get used to Pop OS, It's actually very neat and I really like it way better than Windows which is so intrusive and controlling! You need to constantly upgrade your computer to a faster one just because they keep adding more surveillance and control to make sure you are paying for everything you're using. It's sickening in my opinion. My computer fans are not going crazy like they would and the computer is operating much smoother, especially my video card. So happy I found your video today, it made switching so much easier. :)

Then after pop is installed on that drive, just plug my other storage devices back in to be able to dual boot on startup?

    Everything worked great following your steps! I did make the new EFI partition 1gb since POP_OS required me to. My dilemma is that on the initial boot when I got the option to boot Pop_OS or Windows, I set the timeout to 5 seconds and made Windows the default. I was then able to boot into Pop_OS without issue, but later, since that first bootup, when I boot I do not get the option to boot to Pop_OS, it automatically boot to Windows. I press the space bar just like the first time, but no joy. I see the new EFI partition is still on the disk, so nothing happened to that.

    For some reason every time I try to run my installation usb, it just goes through a lot lf console text and always ends with "Unable to find a medium containing a live file system" and then gives me an option to "Attempt interactive netboot from a URL" except it never seems to be able to find the url.
    I'm really at a loss, but one thing I noticed is that after I flash the usb, Windows Disk Management says the usb only has a single partition of 4 MB. Is this normal? The iso is over 2 GB so that seems small. I downloaded the standard iso from the main page of the official website.

    • @DrewHowdenTech
      @DrewHowdenTech  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is the flash drive at least 4 GB in size? Did you use Balena Etcher to create the flash drive? Did you get an error message during the flashing process?

    • @thesuperMasterSword

      @@DrewHowdenTech I downloaded it a couple nights ago and the file ended in 42. Their guide said you could download the Nvidia drivers later if it was a separate graphics card (which it is in my case).
      Today I went back to try the Nvidia file but I noticed the files now end in 43, so I was thinking maybe they pushed some bad files on accident? I'm about to try the new Nvidia file.
      To answer your question, my usb is 32GB. I used Balena Etcher, and even tried to reflash it with Etcher, and later rufus. There was never a flashing error, Etcher's validation said everything was fine. On an unrelated note, thanks for the minor note about mashing the boot menu key, I always tried to hold it but it never worked, but now I mash and it works like a charm.

    • @thesuperMasterSword
      @thesuperMasterSword หลายเดือนก่อน

      Okay so I got into Pop OS at least. For some reason my 32GB Sandisk Ultra USB didn't want to work. The early command-line messages seemed to indicate the start-up script couldn't read it. I switched to a 8GB Sandisk Cruzer and that seemed to work.
      Does the efi partition absolutely have to be first? I'm installing on a 5TB backup drive and I already have some stuff on it. I shrank the existing partition but it's taking FOREVER to move. Not a big deal if I just have to wipe it, but figured I'd ask.

    Weird, I have installed various distros of GNU/Linux on the same drive as various versions of Windows and the rule of thumb I came to always use was "install Windows first then GNU/Linux". First time I am seeing a Linux distro is advised to be installed first. This also explains why I was not able to manually partition and configure the unallocated space on the drive using the GParted that POP_OS uses. I had to use a third part partition management software to prep the unallocated space first. Even then the installation kept failing after multiple attempts which was very disappointing.
    7:22 Thanks for that, I will have to check to see if it was applicable to me too which then I'd know I missed on that part.

    I did everything that was told to me in the video (only thing I did differently was I added a swap partition). I then installed pop OS fine, everything on pop OS seems to work great. The only issue, big issue really, is that I cant go back to windows. I did the thing where I put the windows folder in the efi. But when I restart and mash space bar, it wont show up. And further, if i go into the bios and try to rearrange the order from there and enable secure boot, windows tells me its trying to correct, then says failed to connect and gives me some options. When I say to continue to windows it does the whole correcting things over again and says it could not correct. I cant get into windows. please help !!

    Thank you for this video! I was pretty intimidated by the idea of doing a dual boot with windows, but I need windows for certain programs, so I really appreciate your guidance.
    Unfortunately, my fear may have been justified: I hit a rather serious snag about 12:30 into your video. I got the partitions all put together like you demonstrated. But on restart, the computer would not boot up, couldn't find a boot drive or something (I forget the error now). I'm still not sure if I'll ever be able to get the machine to boot into Windows again. I was eventually somehow able to get it to recognize the USB and tried to do the install over. This time I got an error pretty quickly, which seems to be related to me needing to format the partitions that I had just half-installed POP OS on. So I pressed the Custom install button and told it which partitions to use, and instructed it to format the partitions. Two little checkmarks on the partitions in question. Great. Except the "Erase and Install" button is greyed out now and won't do anything. I've tried all kinds of stuff, including telling it NOT to format the partitions, and it won't turn red.
    Possibly relevant: you said to make one of the partitions Fat32, I believe, but it tells me that's an inappropriate format.
    I would be super grateful for any help.

      What partition did you set as your root partition?

    • @tempestblack3840
      @tempestblack3840 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DrewHowdenTech The big new one. I have 4 partitions now. One small one is windows system, one big one is windows storage, and then a small (512MB) new partition for Pop boot and a large new partition for Pop Root. I finally got it to format both new partitions and re-install POP OS (I have no idea how, it just worked all of a sudden), and it's doing the same thing. It gets to the reboot stage of the install, and then I get an error tat says "No Operating system found. Press any key to repeat boot sequence." If I press a key, it will just repeat the boot sequence and give me the same error, so it's stuck in a loop of never finding the OS.

    • @tempestblack3840
      @tempestblack3840 ปีที่แล้ว

      update: i've been on the ubuntu forums. The issue still isn't resolved, but I have figured out a few things. The main issue is that I have a Legacy BIOS and it looks like maybe there's no way to install Pop OS on a computer this old? I'm trying to change some things, ie, changing my "boot" partition to a "swap" partition to see if that does anything, but so far I can't figure out how to make the "Erase and Install" button turn red. I have black checkmarks on the appropriate partitions, everything seems to be in order, and it is still greyed out and won't work, leaving me with the option to either mess around with the partitions more or quit the install.
