- There is a supermarket near to us which is very convenient. Having just arrived from India where the supermarket situation was very different although they also had we want to find out what it is like here and how much do foods costs in Malaysia or at least in Sarawak on the island of Borneo. So let´s go and find out. Please let me know what you think. Are there better prices in Malaysia? Is it worth to buy in big bulk, are there cheaper supermarkets? Are there any hacks that you can recommend?

Fun fact: emart was started by a sarawakian chinese about 30 yrs ago and it started as a hawker area next to a petrol station in batu niah near miri. Then the owner started opening supermarkets with a difference, he always have like a local market setup outside where local vendors sells their local produce which i think caters to local needs… emart has expanded so much now
Seronok pegi emart
😂
23:18 hello sir, may i answer you this. Bcos majority in Sarawak here are Non-muslim native/Christians and Malay-Muslims in Swk are the most open with that kind of thing bcos we have so many Hibrid Family. Enjoy your Journey✨
Thanks a bunch
thanks from me too i opened up the comment section just to write this. borneo isn't mainly muslim, malaya(peninsula/westMY) is. but Malaysia is malaya based, so, well..

Thanks mate
Glad to see you guys are adjusting to Kuching and Sarawak. Are you planning on settling here or just making it a long-stay holiday?
I'm an American expat retiree on the long stay Sarawak Malaysia My Second Home Program. Because Sarawak and Sabah have some autonomy they can structure their own visa programs. So while the current MM2H program in the Peninsula is absurdly expensive Sarawak's requires a lot lower financial proof of foreign income and fixed deposit. For those under 50 they have some additional requirements such as enrollment of a child in a local international school or buying property. Of course one could also visa hop but that risks eventually being told that your next stay is restricted. 😮
As mentioned there is a Mooncake Festival on Carpenter Street coming up but also the Regatta on the River and in October a whole month of "What About Kuching" events.
Not planning on settling here, well, not now but maybe one day. We have been traveling as a family for the last six years and we will keep doing so, or as long as we have fun.
Ciao ❤️ ❤️ moonshine and lemongrass family huge supermarket explore nice video clip

Nice to know that you guys are slowly puting up well in Kuching City. The city is spread out into four or five different commercial area apart from the CBD. It's strange but it's real.
One of our favourite supermarkets to visit when we need to buy groceries.❤
Yeah, it's indeed a huge mart...lots of goods and stuff being sold there. Great to see a non halal section there too. Thank you very much for sharing this interesting supermarket tour. Great job, Sir...👍👏
Thanks
@@yvesthesleevevery welcome 🙏

Emart batu kawa is 24 hours.... music is usually when it's a festival like Eid for Muslims there is a song of its own, Chinese New Year, Dayak and Christmas 😊
Wow 24 jam kah… baru tau 😅
Ah ok
@@flyingfox3766yes 24jam. Tapi kalau dh lepas 11 pm. No more chicken or fish n alcohol for sale .
Moonshine n Lemongrass...Ian! Which l came to realise as u rarely mention your name...Nice seeing you with your wife, visiting one of the most popular mall, E-mart where most m'sian would visit for their daily needs, am not sure what really interest you all thesewhile here in Kuching n' l would suggest maybe you would like to visit some other mall such as Spring mall, Viva city, Aeon mall, as such from your last video u do visit churches n there's one coming up here in gothic"style, a catholic church which is going to be completed sometime next year at St.Peter's padungan, but its still restricted from any entry at the meantime. Nice seeing your trip to every difference part of the continence.😋🍽
Thanks mate
There is going to be a mooncake festival at carpenter street this Saturday starting in the late afternoon till midnight. There will be stalls lined up all along the whole street. I saw your video of the whole street.
Ah yes ok
Emart Batu Kawah is the best supermarket in Kuching because it has many products and opens 24 hours beside Aeon ,Everise and Farley
Giant shopping malls like the Spring, Vivacity and the Aeon are all in residential areas. Emart, Farley , Everise and Everwin are the four regular size shopping malls in Kuching.
Alright, I guess they are generally very well stocked.
Hello and good evening, Mr Moonshine and family as well as everyone here. Have a wonderful and blessed weekend 🙏
Thanks a bunch, you too
Prices of items would have been good 👍 ❤next time new concept 1 day a week prices to educate us the cost of living thank you mr moonshine been pleasure to watch your vlogs.❤ and family.

This what i like, supermarket content,i dont know why i really like this content😂, Yes, Malaysia is one of the countries with the highest obesity rates, that's why sugar is dangerous, and I don't eat sugar either, because sugar is the cause of all diseases.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Colourful huge nice super market❤❤❤❤❤❤

I shopped here every weekend. It's very convenient coz you can get almost everything in one building.

we stayed there at airbnb at p'residence for 2 months circa june - late july. i would say it was so convenient. there are many food court with variety of foods as well. I never feel bored walking around the area. I feel the place would be a great place for retirement haha
I agree, we also stayed there two months and it was good.
Moonshine i suggest you go to the satok sunday morning market in kubah ria. However its new location is across river and like everything else is moving so far apart and the city is the opposite of “centralised”. You will need a car to live in this city tbh 😅
Yes looks like it

if im not mistaken. for mustard you have to go to the sauces sections. usually the sauces section near the oil or canned goods. if you found some bbq sauces like H1 or maggi chilli sauce, u might find mustard around that area but im not sure with emart. u can try bigger supermarket inside shopping mall if u cant find one near u.
Yes but they were out I believe
Shopping day in the huge E mart.😊

Great shops
Enjoyed watching this vlog. We have huge super markets and malls in India 🇮🇳. In all major cities spread all over
Alright thanks mate
I’ve not been to eMart in Kuching. My first and last was in Miri in 2011. 😅 But this one is massive.
7:59 Maybe you could check breads in bakeries...?
8:28 Not sure what’s the obsession with the “not many Indians in Sarawak”… but you hardly even mention the largest group of people in Sarawak (same with Sabah when you eventually get there later on), that is the Dayak people. You don’t “see” them because you can’t distinguish between them.
10:19 That’s a type of herb used to cook chicken, usually meant for mothers during their confinement. But it’s such a delicious dish that people would cook it as a side dish. I’ve not seen that being sold anywhere in the peninsula… maybe in a Chinese medicine shops…?
23:00 No. Sarawak is a non-Muslim majority State but the rule on separation of halal and non-halal goods are standard all over Malaysia. That’s why you noticed alcohol can easily be found sold everywhere…
Meanwhile met lots of dayak. Also planning a dayak food video. Iban and Bedayu people seem very friendly
There is a few Indian temple in Kuching, maybe you can make a tour to the temple during festival time where you can see a lots indian friends gather together..
@@yvesthesleeve, do you remember your kolo mi video? You actually passed by a stall selling some Dayak food. There are also Lepau Restaurant and Pinggai Cafe (I recommend this one). Anyway… I’m looking forward to your Dayak food vlog.
@@yvesthesleevedont forget to visit bau city, serian city, sri aman city, sibu city, bintulu city limbang city and miri city..you can see a many of friendly dayak iban bidayuh and org ulu there..
That herb is called Chinese Motherwort. Local people call it Kacangma. This Hakka kacangma Chicken dish is well liked by our natives who live in Kuching. Kacangma Chicken dish cooked by Iban can be found in Emart food court.
GREAT,Yes ,all in 1 MART
Indeed
Opposite Emart Supermarket is Everwin Supermarket, Ninso, Supersave and Mr DIY also a big store
Yes, I know the area well, we lived there for 2 months.
You and family can try eat sarawak laksa . that is number one favourite food in malaysia
Sure thing will do
That yellow stuff was pikachu😂
Hello,I am familiar with the emart towkay. He is a timber tycoon too somewhere in batu niah area. He is a rich man actually.
I am sure
Mostly emart batu kawa will have sales on the weekend.
Yes probably
That definitely huge mall!!!
It is not a mall for us Kuchingite. It is just a hypermarket
@@mcw1393 ops my mistake😂🤣🤣😅😅
Yeah, Peninsula and Borneo are like Siblings. Sometime we fight, sometime we have different thought but our JOY as Malaysian Forever🇲🇾
That's great
@@yvesthesleeverent a car n explore borneo sir.. 😊
In Batu Bawah there are so many big Supermarket such as Emart, Everwin (2) Unaco, Everise, H&L, Choice and New World hehehe
yes indeed
i suggest you go to kuching museum.. Cat museum DBKL and camp permai santubong if you want an experience live in the jungle on tree house 😊
oh wait that near my house? that one at Emart Batu Kawa
Good vlog
Thanks mate
14:20 True, Malaysians in general are fond of sweet and sugary stuff. Not proud to say that Malaysia has the highest rate of diabetes in Asia and one of the highest in the world. Not helped by the fact that price of sugar is relatively low since it's heavily subsidised by the government.
Well, they do like their sugar, I hope awareness will grow
Welcome to Kuching😃
thanks mate
Nice video..
Thanks
I don't think we have Emart in Peninsula. Its big supermarket indeed . Tq for showing around.
very welcome
come to Bau town. not far from kuching city
Next time I am in Brunei now...
Kuching also has many malls but they are quite far from each other
Sure thing
I do recommended spent money on spice..if you want to bring back as souvinier in your homeland 😮
We always buy good local spices to cook, we don't live in our home country, we are permanent travellers.
@@yvesthesleeve maybe as gift to your neighbour when you get home?? 😊
Do a video on streetfood of Malaysia just like before
That I will for sure
My hometown
great place
...from what i heard, the E-Mart Hypermarket established and started from Miri city in north Sarawak. Correct me if im wrong.? 😅
That is what I heard too
@@yvesthesleeve 😅...the owner is a multi-millionare now. Just like Target and WalMart in America 😅
So far I have seen only 3 Big Shopping Malls.
(1) Bercy Village Paris
(2) Mall of Dubai ❤
(3) Giga Mall Rawalpindi
Not bad... 😀
Use honey in coffee and tea as sugar substitute.
We do
✌️😁♥️🇲🇾
Hey, are you guys back in Malaysia?? Welcome back "home"
Thanks mate
Selamat pagi moon
Selamat Pagi
I think I missed the rental.
May I know what it is for the month, please?
Thanks.
Edit:
I'm very surprised that in a tropical country, there are no sliding lids on the freezers.
We pay 3000 a month including everything, like all bills, but i am sure you get it cheaper when staying long term.
@@yvesthesleeve In Ringgit?
24hrs supermarket in Kuching...
Yes
Super Huge 😱😱😱
Indeed
Please come to Brunei
Will do
Have you visit Batu Kawa Riverbank Park?
Will be beautiful at night.
Actually I have not
SIR, THIS IS NOT A SUPERMARKET SLASH MALL ..... IT IS A SHOPPING MALL WITH THE E-MART SUPERMARKET AS THE ANCHOR TENANT .
Yes sure
My home town kuching sarawak
Love it
Kalau aku lebih suka shopping di mall yg lebih kecik spt Everwin supermarket xlah penat sgt bjln, kecuali brg x jumpa tu baru pergi ke Emart.
Well....
You _may_ find the kind of mustard you looking for in the Imported Food section. What kind of mustard are you looking for?
Just regular. They were sold out, found it at supermarket next door 😁
@@yvesthesleeve Nowadays regular is the most difficult to find 😀 They have a lot of tastes instead.
please come back to india,we miss you so much
GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY
Always coming back to india. Few months.
👍🏼💪🏾💪🏾
Dammm awesome dude
Cheers dude
@@yvesthesleeve 🍻
different brands of cili sos for different purposes :D~
Sure
i know you had bitter experience in cochin airport. Are you still planning to travel back as there are still lots of places in INdia for you to explore?
Oh yes sure
Music and mall can,t to separate, maybe already part of culture for malaysians..
Yes that's possible
Plz ignore suruhanjaya lian if you can 🗿 you have been warned. Reply at your own perusal.
Own risk you mean.
No problem
Does that mean there is sufficient food supply in Malaysia at a reasonable price?
Well, yes, although prices have risen and still are.
Yeah sufficient... currently rice is going up in price...so I've noticed some items like a meal of chicken rice going up from MYR7 (US1.40) to MYR8 (US1.60). But most items are roughly the same as last year. Sarawak government is pretty good at regulating price gougers.
The only missing are benches for tired shoppers.
Very true, damn
Yes there are beaches infront of the Emart cashier supermarket
