ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 16 ก.ย. 2023
- We do not want to fuss about but start trying the indigenous cuisine of the island of Borneo, at least start trying some of it. Of course we are very aware that there is a lot of Malay and Chinese food too but of course this we already know. Right in the beginning of the visit we want to start trying the Dayak food (which is a lot of people named in one word). Today we are actually starting with the Iban (which is one of the main Dayak tribes). Let´s see how this went and what it tasted like. Good? Let´s see.
Anyway, let´s try to give this video a "like" and maybe even a comment, I would love to hear from you.

Eat as you wish. Don’t worry. Malaysian muslims are used to the diversity. We can be different but we can still be friends 😊
that is great
Another famous Dayak food is called the Ayam Pansuh or chicken cooked in bamboo. Maybe you can ask where they do sell it because its really difficult to come across. We, Dayaks grow up eating tapioca leaves a lot.
I will try to get that
Hello Sir, i'm from Pontianak city, West Borneo which is just south of Sarawak, Malaysia, for me myself i already went to Kuching with more than once, during my vacation in Malaysia, also i really love Kuching city, cause it's uniqueness that shows Harmonious Malaysia vibes and of course other cities in Malaysia also shows the same vibe, plus Of cource the Malaysians foods in there is so sedap, btw i really hope that you can enjoy your adventure in Malaysia, regardless where you are, and may God bless you and people's around you amen.😊🇲🇾
Btw about Suhanjaya lian, his comment is not a trully reflection of how Indonesians think about Malaysia, so please forgive him for his childish and idiotic comment 🙏🏼.
Thanks so much
@@yvesthesleeveyou're welcome btw i really hope that Sir or even others was not annoyed by some Indonesian individuals, and i hope you can still enjoy your adventure in Malaysia, cheers 😊.🇲🇾
Tapioca leave mean daun bandong, daun jabeng or daun kesak in Iban language.Dayaks are various tribes like Iban ,Bidayuh,Orang Ulu,Kayan ,Kenyah, Kelabit and others minority ethnics in Sarawak of Borneo. Most of them are Christian and some are Muslim .Dayak communities are very friendly and very hardworking. If possible you might to visit original long houses at rural area or Sarawak Cultural Village.( Live Museum at Damai Beach Santubong ).Have a nice day and happy holiday in Kuching Sarawak of Borneo.🤗👍👍
Thanks a bunch, looking forward to be learning about it more
@@yvesthesleevewe went there, just uploaded a video about this. Recommend it with kids, Rafael loved it! ♥️
@@yvesthesleeve, tapioca leafs are known as daun (leaf) jabang, daun empasa’ or daun bandung depending on which area they’re from.
1:45 The term “Dayak” has been accepted as the race name for the indigenous people of Borneo. Dayak ethnic’s culture, language are quite distinct from each other. In Sarawak, the Ibans (also known as the Sea Dayak) make up the largest group of Dayaks. The Bidayuh is known as the Land Dayak.
2:53 Try the “ayam pansuh” next time. That’s the chicken cooked in bamboo. That’s another Sarawak’s signature dish alongside the kolo mee and laksa Sarawak. Another one is the Melanau dish known as “umai”.
2:57 Daun bandung goreng lanyeh = stir fried tapioca leaf with pork lard.
3:03 That’s pork with the “terung dayak” (Dayak brinjal - sourish brinjal).
14:05 Very happy that you make this vlog about the different spectrum of taste found in Malaysia. 👍🏼
15:30 Dayak people traditionally eat with their hands too.
Nice vlog. 👍🏼 Dayak food aren’t vlogged about very much. This gives a better picture of what Sarawak has to offer culinary-wise.
I am glad I am able
@@yvesthesleeve, one suggestion you can think of is to head to a market somewhere. It’s fruit season now and the market would be flooded with exotic fruits. There used to be one at Satok but I think the venue has changed (recommended). You can also head over to a market somewhere in Batu Tujuh (Mile 7) but it’s a smaller one.
Good to see you all enjoying and trying the local cusine. It is good to ve adventures
Agreed

Hey moonshine &family 👪 so lucky 🍀 travel all over 🌏 today you all having dayak food at Kucing Sarawak 😊enjoy staying & take care
Thanks mate
hello sir.. you can try "pansuh" chicken & wild boar.. the most popular dayak food ..
I sure will try
You should go to Downtown Serian 40 miles from Kuching by the cheapest CPL GREEN BUS just ONE RINGGIT ONE WAY bus fare .
ROUND TRIP 2 RINGGIT.
Dayaks are the majority in Sarawak and in Borneo island as a whole. However the dominant Dayaks in Sarawak are the iban (Sea Dayaks) followed by the Bidayuh (Land Dayaks). You can find Dayaks in Sabah (North Borneo) and most of them in Kalimantan in Indonesian part of Borneo. Just like the Apache and Navajo and the Mohicans in the Native American reserved in the USA.
Yes that's cool, the guy I talked to in the end was half half
I love how he describe about srwk ,so incredible n now much about srwk people, he do homework much more,tq come to srwk ❤❤
thanks a lot
The small flower shape green/pandan cake/kueh is popular among kids as snacks, traditionally made. Taste sweet with pandan leaf flavor.
Thanks for sharing!!
Should try our borneo exotic fruits such as Snake Fruits, Dabai, Mata Kucing, Pulasan, Crystal fruit, Tarap, Rambai, Kapul, Wild Star Fruits and Wild Jungle Mango.
Oh yes I hope soon
Hi Sir Moonshine, you should try place called Langkau Arau. Lots of dayak food there 👍
Next time!
heyyy, maybe u should go get some dayak tatoos, ian 😂, that ll be supercool...anthony bourdain got some in his last sarawak trip
I am thinking about it
Since you are in Sarawak Borneo, it's best to try food prepared by the various tribes there. It's very rare to get their food in Peninsular Malaysia. Great that you and wife are trying "Nasi Daun Bandung" which is new to me. 😃
It's pretty good actually
Can go to Lepau Restaurant also in kuching. Got many choice of dayak food
Alright thanks
You may try food at rumah asap, dayak food court ,a lot just few kilometer from kuching in samaharan.really exotic food😅
Thanks for the tip
13:43 slight minty taste if the coook not using mint leaves then it must be either cilantro or coriander
yes I am not sure, I did not detect mint
Next stop u sir you should go to sibu ...there are more many local foods need to be discover and try ...
definitely going to Sibu
Enjoy your day...
many thanks
Well at least you are trying the indegenous cuisine...it is totally different from the local cuisine that you found in Peninsular...enjoy ya😊
Yes absolutely different
Hello Sir. For best experience, u should go to long house. Or u can do to Sarawak cultural village to know all about Sarawak... We wellcoming u 🙏
alright
The more you and family travel, the chances of trying food/cuisines get wider 👍 Yeah, that Nasi Daun Bandung (Dayak food) looks simple but guess it's nutritious. As the saying goes: "Never judge a book by its cover." Well, my Malay neighbour once gave me these tapioca leaves. (the young leaves) She boiled the leaves and told me to eat them with "sambal belacan." Haha....l don't like it. Aaaa ...those nyonya kuih are easily available here in WM'sia. That pink cake is "huat kuih" and the red one is "ang ku kuih"...the skin is made of glutinous flour, that's why it's chewy...my favourite 😃 Wonderful that you finally get to meet an Iban and a Bidayuh there. Great of him to give some info about those tattoos. Thanks for sharing this cool vlog, Sir. Safe travels always !
Thanks so much
@@yvesthesleeve my pleasure as always ✌️🫰
Maybe you should get one of those traditional Dayak tattoos for memories of Kuching.😅👌
Good idea!!
Local dish is simply the best
Absolutely
Hi there, just to let you know that char siew pork is Chinese style of cooking. The Iban style of cooking pork would be ‘pansuh’ cooked in bamboo. It’s like stew pork seasoned with salt maybe a bit of ginger flower. To experience true Dayak food, I suggest that you & your family should go to rumah asap, it’s a generic name for eatery where the style of cooking is mostly involved barbecue. Go there for dinner.
Alright thanks
I recommend you to go at Rumah Asap Tabuan Dayak..you can find Dayak food there..Any of Rumah Asap have Dayak food..i think it will be open around 4 or 5pm until midnight..you will enjoy your food at there bro..
thanks for the tip
Congratulations Switzerland ranked 1 in best country list!!!!
How do you feel 😊
Well, I do not think it is the best country actually... only if you play by there rules.
It's famous now dude😊
😂😂😂😂😂
I am sure if you go the extra miles, you will come across the Dayak (Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, Malanau, Kedayan and many more ethnic which is the majority in Sarawak but balance out in the cities and major towns.
Yes I am sure
Ian, nice to see you in Malayasia with your family. Are you missing Kerala houses? 😁
Haha, Kerala house are generally very nice indeed.
GUTEN ABEND ... MATSU HERE
Guten Abend
If you go sabah next trip and you bored with the city vibe you can go to ranau city, that is took 2 hour drive from kk city, the road are the same that go to mount kinabalu, there is the coldest place in borneo,a country vibe area, from kk city-kundasang 'mountain area' then to ranau hotspring, good place for family camp activity, thats my suggestion for you sir
Sounds interesting, I hope there is a bus.
@@yvesthesleeve If you there, just ask the local for sent you to the bus station, theres a van,or taxi but try to pick a cheap fare, its safe to ask the local before decision
Go to Rumah Asap, you can find a lot of original menu dayak selling thare.
Noted
Welcome to Sarawak. Dayak Iban foods like : should try pansoh babi & sup terung asam ( only in Sarawak).
Alright will try

thanks mate
@@yvesthesleeve your welcome sir👍😁🇲🇾♥️🇨🇭
Im ibanese from Sarawak.
Tapioca leaf in Malay is: Daun Ubi. The other name in Sarawak is Daun Empasa or Daun Jabang. Mostly call it Daun Empasa.
Thanks for this.
Kuching Division consists of three administrative districts; Kuching, Bau and Lundu and two subdistricts; Padawan, and Sematan.
Thanks for this
@@yvesthesleeve Yes Sematan, Lundu & Telok Melano also have beautifiul beaches. There's also plenty of hidden waterfalls in Padawan and rivers in Bau to visit. Some places are nice to camping and BBQ while drink some beers. We call the river sungai batu meaning rock river which is clear and quite shallow and safe to swim mostly in upper river. We call them ulu sungai. But try to avoid the deep one with strong current especially during raining. Very dangerous to swim. Also some rivers have crocodile mostly downriver. Some good places to visit is Bau, Siniawan, Kampung Sting near Bengoh Dam, Libiki Bamboo resort, Kampung Sapit at Borneo Highland, Annah Rais Hotspring, If you like the beaches Sematan, Lundu & Telok Melano also nice. Have a nice trip in Sarawak
Even though I am not Malay or Indian I eat by hand to feel the food
😊😅😮😢🎉😂❤🙏🏼✌🏻💙
Very good
Next time you can try pork pansuh or fish pansuh or chicken pansuh sir.. That is a dayak traditional foods
Alright thanks
That's the cassava leaves rice.
Daun means leaves
I figured that, very nice
Happy Ganesh chaturthi 🙏
Oh that is today. Happy Ganesh chaturhi
Bidayuh and Iban have different language and are not mutually intelligible.
For example:
English - Good Evening
Malay - Selamat Petang
Iban - Selamat Lemai
Bidayuh Bau - Tabi’ Ngumi
Kelabit - Tabiq Dedtem
Lun Bawang - Ro Meco
Bidayuh has different dialect as well, and most of the dialects aren’t mutually intelligible too. That is why most Bidayuhs who aren’t from the same kampung (village) will either communicate with each other in Malay or English.
that is very interesting
You should try the Sarawak Laksa.
Coming up...
@@yvesthesleeve, Choon Hui is where the late Anthony Bourdain had his. You can also try from the stall at Chong Choon. The Chinese usually make the broth a little light… the Malays make them thicker and spicier.
Hai Mr Ian...how I wish am back to Kuching so that can meet your family n willingly invite you to our Bidayuh village near the city.
That would be cool
Interesting diet food your explanation bye-bye everyone
Thanks! 😃
Ciao ❤️ ❤️ bro
Buon appetito yummy food 😋 😍 😜
thanks
Borneo you can eat what ever you want. in Borneo we understand each other and respect each other. Food you muct try in sarawak : Pansuh ayam/babi cook in bamboo and Midin masak belacan. do vist Sarawak culture Village and sarawak Culture Museum.
Thanks, sounds good
🎉
3:02😂😭
Baba Nyonya = Peranakan. I am this clan.
Very interesting, we stayes in Penang for a year, there are many there
What you all will eat, when get back to Swiss?
Not sure
Casava leaf or tapioca leaf actually same.
Duly noted
Actually, Dayak food are very similar to Chinese food, non spicy. Most Dayak are christian. By appearance, the Dayaks are close to the Chinese look rather than a Malay.
Yes I noticed that
Daun means leaf in Malay
I realize that.
The sauce could be sambal balacan, hence the fishy taste.
Ah yes probably
I am sure you have met many dayak people but you won't know they are Dayak because most dayak look like Chinese with fair skin..i myself is a Dayak Kenyah
Oh yes I have met many Dayak, they are similar to Chinese indeed but there are some differences in features.
You are different because majority of tourist always had chinese foods in Sarawak.
I am sure
Does your daughter like her new hairdo?
Hahaa yes, she cut lots of it herself...
@@yvesthesleeve Nice.
I see there's a Muslim food stall near stalls that sell pork dishes.
Really amazing, NO?
I did not see a muslim place that sells pork.... I think that would be the only one....
Are u kidding me? Malays NEVER sell pork in Sarawak
@@imangarrix5904 Triggered much?
A friend of a friend told me about his school days in Kuching. Had a Muslim friend who ate pork and partook the nectar of the gods.
@@RUHappyATM nonsense
@@imangarrix5904
What is nonsense?
That a Muslim may have eaten pork or drank alcohol?
When I was in uni, there was a Muslim friend who drank at parties.
i like baby foods...i mean babi sup
😂😂😂😂😂
Baby suop
Alright
Asking too many questions with cook including her religion? Too inquisitive.
well, that is your opinion.
@@yvesthesleeveso many negative people commenting on this video lol. Take care Lemongrass and family.
hey this is sarawak, not your country wheres everyone had only one religion, in sarawak we have multi religion beyond your comprehension.
Jarang Orang asing bule bule mempertontonkan wisata Sabah Serawak biasanya kebanyakan di semenanjung.
Hal inilah menjadi kesenjangan sosial Ekonomi rakyat disana, pemerintah hanya mengutamakan kepentingan semenanjung.
Cukup bangga lega rasanya leeMongras bisa mengelilingi Sabah Serawak melihat suasana Pribumi disana,, dari dulu Negeri ini kurang diperhatikan pemerintah pusat Semenanjung.. padahal wisata Disana sangat menjanjikan.
Tapi melihat semenanjung tamak mengabaikan ekonomi di Sabah Serawak.
Semoga Sabah Serawak bisa mendapatkan haknya tanahnya sendiri 😊

sakit jiwa dia ni
Why not try so call ayam pansuh.. babi pansuh.. dayak food
I chose what they had, I cannot eat all in one sitting....
You should avoid eating pork cause your view count will probably go down due to porkophobia by certain religions.
Well, that is true but I do not film only what people want to see, I also ate beef in India and many people did not like it.
