Hi guys, most of us who love the sailing life have similar stories of fails, worries, breaking things, disappointments, dumb decisions, etc. Your both doing just fine; plan, stay safe, build knowledge and skill. Love the adventure and grow together. As I see you are doing😊
Hi you two, love your channel. Can't wait for your next post. Honest and real. Keep telling it as it is warts and all. With all your experiences and how you deal with them makes your channel really compelling. Stay safe and plan carefully. 👍
Guys, it’s those hairy moments that you learn the most. The next time you’re stressed again you’ll instantly remember you’ve been here before. Keep at it - you guys are smashing it. Keep going!! Fair winds and calm seas! ⛵️
Without your emotions this channel wouldn’t be what it is, keep on showing us warts and all. As an ex sailor I can see that you are truthful about how it is out there and as your experience grows so will your joy and sometimes fear. Luv it
I'm enjoying every step of your journey guys. Just epic. It's hard to imagine you haven't had your Day Skipper for a year yet! I think you're both showing incredible experience and resilience. I would have been pretty damn expressive and emotional after a day like yours. And yet a day later you're cracking on for 17 hour passage!! Seriously, hat's off to you both. You're bloody ace.
The vikings had a saying; "Glat hav gør ikke dygtige sejlere" which loosely translates to "Smooth seas do not make good sailors". You two are doing an amazing job in adverse conditions. You learn through your trials, not your successes. Keep at it, you're doing great.
a little tip to save water. when possible jump in the water(sea) get back on deck soap up and scrub, jump back into the sea water. take 5 mins to rinse off using boat water. For dishes plug up your sink and get some salt water basically you want to do the same as you would like when you shower us sea water to do the washing and rinse off with fresh water

Lovely video guys! Well done for dealing with the weather/stuff getting tangled/scary situation - all worked out well because of how you coped with it. Good job!
I love this episode. We all have experienced those emotional feelings when confronted with being out of our COMFORT ZONE. I gather this experience in both navigation & seaman ship will both strengthen your relationship with Zach and help with your on-going sea Saga. Best from here!

All part of the journey, whilst scary at the time I’m sure you already realise that this is part of your adventure and you will look back in months to come and be glad you have had all these experiences. Love the story so far, I look forward to each episode. Thank you!
I love the honesty of the challenges you face. Sailing is dynamic and is all about going with the wind, sea and the limitations of your boat. There is very rarely a perfect sail. The feeling of accomplishment comes from overcoming all obstacles in whatever way you manage. Your are young and this is all a good learning experience. I admire your courage and determination. Wishing you fair winds.
There are definitely highs and lows of every day. Great job keeping an even keel through it all. Enjoyable video. Thank you and until next time, smooth sailing.
Your. Iat seems like it's made for videos. Great natural light in the pilot house. Long flat sight lines on deck. Started watching with a mention from Sail Life. Now I'm going to have to go back to episode one and see how your adventures started.
Love the more raw realistic and honest storytelling you guys are putting out. Makes me feel a sailing adventure is far more realistic goal for me as I KNOW I’d be on a far greater roller past of emotions than the other “always happy and positive” sailing channels portray. Thank you xxxx
Hey guys - the days you experience something a bit more challenging expand your comfort zone and abilities. Your boat will take that and much much more. Have faith in it and yourselves. Great channel - really enjoying it.

Fantastic sailing you guys, its a real pleasure to see young people doing a lifetime journey such as your doing, many only dream (sitting on the couch) what you are actually doing ! We are in our mid seventies and met in 2014 as i was retiring from Polytechnic teaching job, apprentice carpenters. In 2015 my wife and I decided to walk the Camino from France over the Pyrenees to Santiago. We felt we hadn't completed our dream so decided to carry on to Fisterra, spent a couple of days there, then decided to walk up to Muxa another 36 ks and two days. Beautiful area to explore, can also highly recommend Fisterra, the Harbour is fantastic and sheltered, we looked down on it each morning, really look forward to your Videos and life experiences. Cheers from New Zealand
Don’t let the comments bother you ! People make judgements quickly without any knowledge. Life has ups and downs. I think showing the ups and downs is part of your story. Please keep going !

It is ok to be afraid and feel bad about sailing. Everybody will have those moments and there is no perfect sailors. You will do the stupid decisions we all do. This summer I did a short sail 35 nm in a wind going to 40 knots in one of the areas with worst reputation... Stupid but I learnt the most from that sail during the whole summer. Love your honesty. Keep it up, you are doing an excellent job.

The sea can be really scary at times, but through the years I've learnt that the boat can withstand a lot more than we think. Really love the content, keep it up!
Just discovered your channel and see others leaving. You are charming, knowledgeable and very smart. For a midwesterner in U.S. your voice is magical birds speaking intelligible English. It's very hard to watch a girl so upset but the recovery and growth was inspirational.
A brilliant episode and a beautiful description of the highs and lows… you two are nailing this…. Becca you will even perfect the hair dressing but with practice too 😅!! Keep smiling and sail safe 😊
Did you find out why your engine battery was flat? I took my boat into Camarinas many years ago to repair a ripped sail on the way up from Vigo, a lovely little town where I met an old German guy who was a live aboard on a twenty foot boat! Fair winds to you both, I love your channel.
Just follow the Wind while avoiding the Dangers, as best possible…Becca, yer doing Great, but ya gotta Slow Down cuz EGBOK😜…Continue to Stay Safe and Enjoy 👍
Hey not sure if you're going to stop there, but don't fill up at Alicante. They rip you off with fuel by not clearing the meter, we paid for 250L of fuel but only have a 200L tank. The marina is really expensive too, cost us $70 euros to stop the night, we got there at 02:00 and left at 10:00.
Wow I'm shocked by some of the nasty comments on here. I think it's great that you are sharing all this with us. Your being real. I'm really enjoying following your journey. I've been following your channel since watching videos of you in West Wales at the blue lagoon which is where I live. You guys have inspired me to want to buy a sailboat and sail the world with my young family. Is your plan to sail around the world?
Thanks Yan! Wow thanks for being such a long time watcher 😍 Not many people have watched those older episodes! We don’t have any solid plans at this time, we are just taking it a month at a time 😊 Hopefully we will see you out on the water at some point!
A wonderful video, Becca. I think it is great that you show the tough times as well as the fantastic ones. With out some less than ideal experiences we wouldn't be able to appreciate the good times. Take care, be safe and sail on.
Sailing does involve a lot of rough and smooth and I am sure there will be rougher moments and smoother ones too, but that's all about building your experience and enjoying the good times. Sailing downwind can lull you into potentially more dangerous situations and can be very misleading. You don't appreciate the increasing strength of wind, especially as you sail faster with it, hence reducing the apparent wind. Always be conscious of that and reef early and know that when you turn head to wind, the sea and wind conditions can appear very different. We've all been there...but stay safe.
I would like to see more safety harnesses, tethers and jack lines. Particularly downwind with the jib poled out. Imagine how long it would take to go back to rescue someone. But you did well to hang in.
We wear them a lot, maybe the clips we include don’t show it too much. Always in winds above 15 knots, always at night, always when alone in the cockpit and always with a choppy sea state, always offshore etc 😊 that’s what the bright orange jacklines all over Teulu are for
Love watching your ups and downs. You are getting so much experience. Imagine in ten, twenty years' time, the stories you will have and the ridiculous situations you will be able to solve!! The helicopter was one of your patreon supporters!! 😁 I see dolphins in our basin which is 2 to 3 meters. Love dolphins.
I think the majority of the comments are out of order, give the girl a break. She's keeping it real and raw. Many people will have a good cry , but not film it. She does it, to keep it really and authentic. Becca is a girl and girls are more emotional. Becca don't even bother answering negative comments, they are not worth it. I am very proud of the two of you sailing 2000 thousand miles,is awesome. Ava has probably cried lots, but mads does not film it. Becca ,don't change being you and showing your emotions. Boating is for both of you and you are both gaining expierrience all the time. Fair winds.
Hi Teulu. Just enjoyed the video. Tears of emotion and Relief, as far as I am concerned. Just been reading all the other comments; especially the negative ones. People abandoning your channel, just because of a few tears? Shame on them. Never ceases to amaze me, how many people appear to want to see you fail and give up. Don't you dare!!! I'm enjoying your efforts and looking forward to catching up with you wherever you end up. Gibraltar, maybe? P.S. Does the Junk Rigged boat have a name? Better still, a YT channel. Looks very interesting.
Re the thing with the whisker pole and the genoa - can you put roll the genoa away without taking the pole down? If you rig it so you can, it means you can get the sail area down in a hurry and deal with the pole later. Looks a bit weird sailing around with the pole sticking out but that's not something to worry about...
A few tears and worries on this passage. Six months from now the same weather will only get " that was a bit sporty this arvo" and you will have complete confidence in the boat and yourself.
Loving your videos and journey guys! Keeping it real with the highs and lows of sailing. What is the plan, Mediterranean or Atlantic? Can fully recommend Greece for fabulous life and sailing conditions where you can learn and build up your experience. Take care and happy sailing !
You are doing exactly the right things, planning, checking weather etc etc, but remember that old sailors motto. Shit happens and you have to deal with it, and you did, well done. Looking at the video it looked like you set your anchor alarm after you had let all your chain out, which means it is set where the boat is. Much better to set it when you drop the anchor as you want to know if the anchor moves not the boat.
You really do where your heart on your sleeve Becca, being a dinghy sailor it might be a stupid question but do you have a preventer on you mizen? Nice vlog roll on your next one.
I wonder if you should look into a wind turbine to add to your solar set up might help to keep the batteries up. Just a thought. Do you have separate start and house batteries or just one set for everything? Love the channel!
Hi there. Numbers worth remembering, which vary a bit with lead acid AGM 12v important large amperage cranking load batteries , is ever let their Voltages Drop below 12.2 volts, because the more damage they suffer, the lower that voltage goes, even with so called "Deep Discharge" batteries. Once the acid levels in the cells start dripping (doesn't apply to AGM of course, but they are just as easy to terminally damage, with some people only getting 6 months out of them. So even a bit inaccurate analogue Volt meter, can work wo Dersingham for letting you see at a glance how they are doing, and can help to extend Battery life pretty significantly. e.g. my battery bank of cheap 100 amp lead acid Tractor batteries lasted 15 years thanks to a cheap voltmeter, and only died thanks to a not forecasted wind chill of under 45 degrees Centigrade and what was likely a thick snow coating that cracked the cases. Still, they weren't expensive to replace. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍
Think that there are some harsh comments on here. Every time you go out, conditions will be different. Going in and out of marinas is stressful. Every sail you will learn something new. You are young and keen and living your life. Ignore the moaners. I sail but it’s taken years to get to how I feel now. Having confidence in yourself, your crew and your boat is so important and if your coping method to release stress is to cry then cry.
Roller furling can be a curse on occassion. However, the alternative of having multiple jibs is not really practical on a cruising boat. There's a lot of chat about the ideal downwind cruising rig, as, quelle surprise, everyone has a different opinion. It's worthwhile getting as foolproof a system as you can devise, and also one that Becca can work on her own. Trade wind passages and inevitable squalls mean you have to be able to shorten sail, then reset it with the minimum of faffing around, often at night, when alone on watch. Always remeber that if you're running away from the 25 knot breeze at 8 knots, the apparent wind is only 17. Turn around to beat upwind at 5 knots, the apparent wind is now 30knots. big difference. Believe in Teulu though- she's a bit of a bruiser, and 2 metre waves feel unpleasant, but should be well within her capabilities.
I like that you do not hide your emotions from us, The good with the bad. I was once told when i was in the army fear is a great teacher although it feels bad at the time the fear keeps you going and helps you. Great video again love your smiles
Welcome to sailing, if you are going make crossing you may get a lot worse , most of us don’t want to be out in bad weather, stay safe and don’t venture out until you are fully confident, don’t always believe weather reports ,they are only forecasts.
@@TeuluTribe I don't know if you guys have plans to sail north to Florida eventually, if so I feel like I should warn you. I lived aboard in Florida for a number of years and I really think its become a police state on the water. The cops are everywhere, There are six or seven different outfits. Plus the marinas are super expensive, and its difficult to find places to anchor out. ( The water is very shallow.) Not only that, if you anchor out you'll probably run into problems with the condos along the shore. Plus you'll have to pay a lot of money to land your dingy. The last time I was in Miami it cost 14.00 per hour. They don't want cruisers to come ashore. At one point they were arresting sailors who anchored out. They had a court case and the cops lost. There's a lot more that I could tell you but suffice it to say that I don't like Florida. I live on a nice boat in the Pacific Northwest. Before I moved to Puget Sound I cruised all over the Caribbean from Cuba to Panama. I hate to poison the pool but you guys have such a fun loving positive attitude that I thought I should warn you. Florida is a bad dream.
Things go wrong very quickly but you fixed them and safely anchored so not doing so bad. Patrick Laine had a methanol fuel cell on Isabelle which automatically charged the battery if voltage dropped. Very expensive though, 3500 euro for his version but he said to buy the larger one, 9000 euro!
@@TeuluTribe He didn't have solar or backup generator so if you factor the cost of those I suppose 9000 euro and cheap methanol cost of running might make sense. Size of a suitcase and very quick install.
I’ve been mostly enjoying your productions/ documenting since the start Unfortunately the tears are a bit too much for me. On to other channels. Best wishes to you both in your experiences
Slow down, it’s all about the journey, not the destination. Wear life jackets, avoid arriving into unfamiliar anchorages in darkness - there’s no need to take unnecessary risks and scaring yourselves. We wish you well and want you both to enjoy the sailing and live the dream 🤗

We want to be as authentic as we can and not sugarcoat our experiences. Thanks John 😊
Thank for your comment and your sound advice!
I would like to see more safety harnesses, tethers and jack lines. Particularly downwind with the jib poled out. Imagine how long it would take to go back to rescue someone. But you did well to hang in.
We wear them a lot, maybe the clips we include don’t show it too much. Always in winds above 15 knots, always at night, always when alone in the cockpit and always with a choppy sea state, always offshore etc 😊 that’s what the bright orange jacklines all over Teulu are for
@@TeuluTribe Good to hear. I could not see them in the storm video.
Good job you guys. Next time you have strong winds it'll seem a little less stressful. You both have a great attitude and that's what's important.
Cheers Tim 😊
All part of the journey guys mistakes our great teachers learn and move on great content
It sure is! Thanks Chante 😊
Love watching your ups and downs. You are getting so much experience. Imagine in ten, twenty years' time, the stories you will have and the ridiculous situations you will be able to solve!!
The helicopter was one of your patreon supporters!! 😁
I see dolphins in our basin which is 2 to 3 meters. Love dolphins.
Thanks for watching, it’s all a learning experience! Imagine if it was 😅
Always stay calm.. Obviously, you still have a lot to learn, about sailing but about yourselves too. Good luck.
Thanks Mathieu 😊
I think the majority of the comments are out of order, give the girl a break. She's keeping it real and raw. Many people will have a good cry , but not film it. She does it, to keep it really and authentic. Becca is a girl and girls are more emotional. Becca don't even bother answering negative comments, they are not worth it. I am very proud of the two of you sailing 2000 thousand miles,is awesome. Ava has probably cried lots, but mads does not film it. Becca ,don't change being you and showing your emotions. Boating is for both of you and you are both gaining expierrience all the time. Fair winds.
Thanks you Kevin☺️ We definitely want to show the good and the bad. It wouldn’t be the reality of our adventure if we didn’t 😅
Cool 🤗
love the vlogs!
I’m loving the journey 🎉
Thanks Joe ☺️
Loving the channel :) Can I ask what remote anchor alarm you have? Thanks
Cheers 😊 We currently use Anchor Pro.
Keep going guy's. Just think of what it was like in the UK day after day. Keep smiling warmer weather is a few sleeps away. 😎😀😀😀
Haha perspective is key and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
It would be cool if you could add more maps to your videos so we could see where you are 😁 such a cool adventure!
We’ll try and add more 😊 Thanks Helly!
Thanks Russ, the internet is a funny place 😅 If we are ever in the area we will be sure to let you know!
More experience under your belts. Great job!
Thanks Cathy!
Cracked another part of the journey albeit with a few tears. But what kind of adventure would it be, if it were all plain sailing!! 😉😉
Thanks Pete, we totally agree. 😉
Great video guys wish you could do 2 a week....What happened with start battery....... take care
We would love to put out two a week, we just might need to hire someone else to edit 😅
The aviation term is 'get-there-itis'...and it's the cause of a LOT of mishaps.
Re the thing with the whisker pole and the genoa - can you put roll the genoa away without taking the pole down? If you rig it so you can, it means you can get the sail area down in a hurry and deal with the pole later. Looks a bit weird sailing around with the pole sticking out but that's not something to worry about...
We can do that now since we rigged it differently last week. We definitely learned a lot from the bay of Biscay!
Loving this series! Did you get cruisers insurance for the boat?
Yes we did 😊
A few tears and worries on this passage. Six months from now the same weather will only get " that was a bit sporty this arvo" and you will have complete confidence in the boat and yourself.
I think you’re spot on Mark! 😊
Did you sort out the starter battery issues
Loving your videos and journey guys! Keeping it real with the highs and lows of sailing. What is the plan, Mediterranean or Atlantic? Can fully recommend Greece for fabulous life and sailing conditions where you can learn and build up your experience. Take care and happy sailing !
Thanks Debs, we don’t have any solid plans yet. We are just taking it one month at a time 😊
You are doing exactly the right things, planning, checking weather etc etc, but remember that old sailors motto. Shit happens and you have to deal with it, and you did, well done. Looking at the video it looked like you set your anchor alarm after you had let all your chain out, which means it is set where the boat is. Much better to set it when you drop the anchor as you want to know if the anchor moves not the boat.
Thanks Mark. We normally try and set it as we drop it 😊
You really do where your heart on your sleeve Becca, being a dinghy sailor it might be a stupid question but do you have a preventer on you mizen? Nice vlog roll on your next one.
Yeah we have a preventer for the mizzen, we normally only use it when we are going down wind 😊
I am reminded of a saying that encourages adventure: "A boat is safe tied up in the harbour - but its not what its designed for" Enjoy the adventure!
That saying is spot on, thanks Brian!
I wonder if you should look into a wind turbine to add to your solar set up might help to keep the batteries up. Just a thought. Do you have separate start and house batteries or just one set for everything? Love the channel!
We might end up getting one at some point. Yes we have separate batteries. Thanks Duncan ☺️
Bob. 👍
Thanks for the advice Bob! 😁
Thanks Carol, I think you really hit the nail on the head with this comment!
where abouts are you now? Are you headed over to the Caribbean?
We are currently in the Canary Islands (follow our instagram for updates).
There’s definitely some more improvements that we want to make to Teulu over the coming years! She’s definitely build to handle more than we could 😅
I like that you do not hide your emotions from us, The good with the bad. I was once told when i was in the army fear is a great teacher although it feels bad at the time the fear keeps you going and helps you. Great video again love your smiles
Thanks Peter, that’s some really good advice ☺️
Welcome to sailing, if you are going make crossing you may get a lot worse , most of us don’t want to be out in bad weather, stay safe and don’t venture out until you are fully confident, don’t always believe weather reports ,they are only forecasts.
That boat you own is much stronger than you think. Gale force winds and high waves are not going to be dangerous. So don't feel bad.
She will definitely outlast us in crazy weather 😅
Becca well done. You guys are awesome 👏
Thank you 😊
You're still on that learning curve, remember? Don't worry, I was on it the entire time of my sailing career...
Haha thanks Leo, we are always learning 😅
Things go wrong very quickly but you fixed them and safely anchored so not doing so bad. Patrick Laine had a methanol fuel cell on Isabelle which automatically charged the battery if voltage dropped. Very expensive though, 3500 euro for his version but he said to buy the larger one, 9000 euro!
Thanks John. Wow that’s a lot 😅
@@TeuluTribe He didn't have solar or backup generator so if you factor the cost of those I suppose 9000 euro and cheap methanol cost of running might make sense. Size of a suitcase and very quick install.
❤❤❤
what happened to the engine?
I’ve been mostly enjoying your productions/ documenting since the start
Unfortunately the tears are a bit too much for me. On to other channels.
Best wishes to you both in your experiences
Thanks for watching Conrad! Have a lovely day 😊
Slow down, it’s all about the journey, not the destination. Wear life jackets, avoid arriving into unfamiliar anchorages in darkness - there’s no need to take unnecessary risks and scaring yourselves. We wish you well and want you both to enjoy the sailing and live the dream 🤗
Thanks for the advice Liam! 😊
It can be a really steep learning curve at times but you did it guys you made it in in one piece. You’ve got to remember your boat is alot more capable than you are. She kept you safe. If it happens again youll be ready for it next time. Onward and upward. 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Cheers Steven 😊
7 billion people on this planet. Only two people managed to sail that boat in those conditions at that time.
Thanks Jamie 😊
get your batteries tested as well as the alternator on the engine. a bad alternator can kill good batteries
