    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman

Made in China using Japanese parts apparently... but we all know China invented steel and glass and you can't ague with that... It's a great watch, and it's one I have in my watch box for a month, then on my wrist for a week... I was looking at the original, but have decided that this new Arnie is something I will use more often, as getting parts for the original is harder than hunting a Predator in life LML :-P Cheer!

What else could you ask for! Glad that seiko decided to reissue this time piece. 👌😎👍great review and tutorial!

Finally someone that sees beyond 'Made in China' as all those comments that moan it's made in China are using 'Made in China' devices to send their messages.... to me this is for tax reasons, as sending complete watches costs more than sending in parts... so basically the watch is made in Japan but assembled in China... if you have to send it back under warranty it has to go to Japan... and don't worry about the 7yr LCD... this is normal for all LCD's... we won't notice till at least 40yrs or more later.
I was so close to getting the original, but parts are not easy, so was perfect timing from Arnie to release this again... cheers for the feedback my friend :))

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman Actually, the movement is made in Malaysia. The Chinese factory techs are trained and supervised by Japanese Seiko techs. The word in Japan is they are going to move all production out of China and back to Japan with the METI paying a subsidy because of the virus.

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman As for the LCD, I bought a H558-500A Japan built Orange Arnie at the PX on base in Japan in 1986. Bought it to replace a Rolex I had destroyed (a story for another day) and at the time I didn't know that it was a "movie" watch. I did a 30 year military career wearing that watch in wars, in training, jumping and fast roping out of aircraft, jungles, desert, open ocean swimming/diving, Arctic and mountain operations. I still have it, and it still works as well as the day I bought it. The LCD is perfect. The backlight is dim, it was always dim, but it still works. The only thing I've done to it was change the battery every couple of years, of course replaced the strap with a real issue NATO strap, replaced the (finally cracked) plastic shroud with a metal after market assembly, popped the (now kinda worn) bezel for cleaning out grit, and "o" ring replacements. Tough watch. Great watch. The new kids are mostly sporting Casio throw-aways now, though. I'll be picking up this new version now and checking it out. My original owner manual had the same "7 year" stuff in it, and it's more of a "cover their butt" type of deal I figure.

John Puplic Hey buddy... When I was at Seiko Boutique London they did and didn’t want to say that it was Japan parts, but did say that it would be sent to Japan for any service needed... I was guessing my own reasons and Seiko Boutique London just smiled as if I was in the right direction... but have noticed a huge amount of CASIO watches having Malaysia on them with no issues... for me as long as it’s all functioning and built well then i’m not bothered as the price is good... what I’m not so keen on is when watch manufacturers don’t show the counter side of production and just stamp them ‘Swiss Made’ and with the 60/40% this is nearly half half... and then people go downtown upset that the new Arnie has ‘Made in China’ ... guess they’ve got brainwashed by so called watch gurus and forgotten that their $1200 iPhone is made also in China... now I did hear that the tiny torque screws on iPhones are Swiss Made... not sure if that’s past or present?
Cheers for your message... I was going to remove the back off mine and have a little investigating, but decided that to be honest I actually don’t need to do that unless I need to replace the battery... i’ve not looked for a movement online, but should do as i’m sure someone else has done that.

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

John Puplic WOW... very impressive with yourself and your partner H558!
I saw a mod with someone using a metal shroud on their original Arnie, but thought it was a part they made, or was that your posting?
Your H558 has been lived more harsh conditions than all of Arnie’s movies, and incredible that it served 30yrs. Isn’t the orange dial more collectible?
Now i’m wondering am I talking to the real John James, alias Rambo?
Would you be interested to share a shot of that original 7yr LCD info from your H558 handbook and post separately on the community section... would be really nice to share what you’ve written here too... think for many fans of this watch, knowing how it has really lived through a 30yr military career shows just how tough it truly was, and not from a movie set.
Thank you so much for sharing a personal part of your life... the ROLEX story sounds interesting and look forward to hearing that one day... very welcome to post this on the community section as then it has its own place.
      Cheers

If you didn't know, Citizen made their own Arnie back in 1987 which I've just recently posted, and I feature my SNJ025 to compare, plus my friend videoed his original H588 Arnie. I've also done a side by side next to the original Arnie which can be found in my playlist. The new version is very well done, feels solid and looks incredible even next to the original. Don't worry about the China part, the watch is still manufactured in Japan, this is more about the assembly side that keeps the pricing down, and nothing with regards to quality.

      Cheers buddy :)
My buddy at Time and Talk th-cam.com/video/lcnwwSLqDio/w-d-xo.html has posted a video of his thoughts on his 300m ProMaster Titanium. I don’t have plans to review this particular model. It looks solid and well made like with many Citizen’s. I’d like to be honest to how I see it, and remember it’s just my opinions and thoughts.
There’s two reasons why I won’t buy this watch, and the first one being the silly one, is the arrow hour hand.
It reminds me of my old school clock in the class room when I was 8yrs old. It has that toy look, and today it feels it’s mocking, if that makes sense, with my years added on I just see it as a clock hand in a kinder garden. I know it’s minor, but to my eye I can’t help but hit upon it each time. The other side that doesn’t pull me in, is the fact that it’s a 300m watch, yet isn’t an iSO Diver’s rated watch. For a Diver’s rated watch to pass, it needs to pass vigorous tests beyond its means, so unless it’s a Diver’s rated watch, then it might as well have 6900mtrs on the dial. I’ve not read if these watches are tested beyond 300mtrs, so will swallow my words if I’m wrong, but I know without a bezel it can’t be tested as iSO Diver’s. The design is really simple and bold, but I’m more attracted to Citizen for their complications and in general their busy faces. I like to discover new angles and features on a watch over time, but feels with this, I’ve already discovered everything about it in a few minutes.
I hope I’m making sense to how I’m seeing this watch, and I’m not condemning it at all, as it’s like music, there isn’t such a thing as bad music, it’s just not your style of music.
Now this is a Citizen I like that’s on eBay (not mine) it’s the ProMaster Diver’s 300m Eco-Drive BN0080-05L BNWT and it’s priced at £199 with free delivery in the UK and it’s new with tags. Again, it’s not mine, but I have it on my wish list :) This is something more for my taste… it has more details on the face… bold markers with tool design hands. Has a fidget spinner bezel and a monster crown. The big difference is that titanium side, as titanium on watches is just amazing as it’ll never corrode or make your skin swell red, so it has that side over the one I’m more interested in.
I feel you really need to soak up all the things you like and make the decision on your needs. I know reviews are really helpful, but the last journey is your choice. Maybe I’ve helped, maybe I’ve made it worse, but it’s just my opinion and it’s still a cracking looking watch :)

I know that the crown has to be screwed down and the manual states that the function buttons need to be screwed down for 'diving' specifically. But if the buttons are unscrewed could you have a shower or a swim in pool? Thanks in advance if anyone knows the answer to this?

      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Hey buddy... cheers for the feedback and sorry for the delay to reply, I didn't get a notification???
Let's look at it this way... if the crown is un-screwed, it could snag on some weed while swimming, pulling the crown and potentially damaging the crown stem, or worse, pulling the whole crown out, thus why screw down is always a nice addition. As for the pushers, there are many water proof watches that have pushers that don't have the screw down side, but pushing button's at depth isn't recommended unless it's designed for this... as for this Arnie, leaving the pushers un-screwed would still cover water resistance, I leave mine out all the time, as it's a pain to keep un-screwing them to use the backlight... if I was ever to take it snorkelling then I would make sure it's all screwed in, as I don't want to have buttons pressed anyway. Personally I won't be using my Arnie in the seas, as this is a very aggressive environment and a shame to bully the look of the watch... that's not saying it's ok, I have other sea watches that I prefer and don't mind them looking like a sea wreak... silicon/resin straps go very odd when used in the sea for a certain amount of time, and if not rinsed then the bezel can get very stuck :-P
In the shower with the pushers is ok, as there isn't water pressure, and pressing buttons while wet is also ok, it's a Diver's 200m watch that has been tested :))
Hope that helps you my friend :))

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman

That’s a decent question to ask.... it’s not like a Vostok, but does have a slight wiggle, nothing that worries me at all, and it’s expected anyway, as there’s probably a few O-rings in the shaft.
I’ve showered with the crown unscrewed once by accident and I always leave my pushers unscrewed anyway, and nothing flooded... If I’m venturing into the sea then I’ll lock everything down, but for general day to day my pushers are always open. Hope that helps... are you thinking your stem is more wobbly than it should be?

triperz Every crown I’ve used has a slight amount of play, it’s a thin stem that slides through a barrel with O-rings, so will be impossible to eliminate any wobble, it’s also a smart crown so isn’t moving gears.
I’ve seen there’s a few newer models released that look quite interesting... but for me, I wanted the more back to the original Arnie look. I put mine on leather just to see, and made it look vintage, did post a video. But having drilled lugs was a smart move... in general I really do enjoy this piece, and with its look there’s no mistaking it’s an Arnie ;)

      @@steffrouen Hey buddy.... no problem.
Now I've not treated this one with too much abuse and it hasn't seen the sea.... but in terms of how it's built it feels tough, but as always spring pins are the side to all things failing, but the SNJ does have some beef in that department. It's not going to be as tough as a G-Shock as it has now shock absorbing material outside... if you're wanting something like a G-Shock, then why not stick with a G-Shock?? Ani-Digital?
I have no intention to flip my SNJ as it's a great all rounder... nice loud alarm, hourly chime is weak as it only beeps once.
It's Diver's 200m rated so has been through the tests to reach that merit, so at least you have that side of confidence :)
If you find a good deal, then yeah, and I feel this will become a future collectable... it is solar but doesn't have MB6, so will need adjusting every month if you want it accurate. The lume is good, not the strongest to be honest, but lume is usually over rated, but having the backlight on the LCD panel makes is useable in low lighting, but if running the stopwatch then you can't use the backlight as it'll stop/start the stopwatch :-P
I'm not sure if you'll find it a little dull with regards to functions, as the GPR is packed full... I'm thinking the Gulfmaster GWN-Q1000... it's my first Master of G and still one of my favourite all rounders, but that's my opinion. I'm only saying that as you're thinking Rangeman, and anything that isn't a G-Shock isn't going to be as tough, they may come close, but you know what I mean... If you like it then give it a try, maybe look for a pre-loved one if you're going to abuse it?

Hey buddy... well, I can't believe 'others' say 14yrs, where do they get their facts from, especially when 14yrs hasn't passed??? Now this 7yrs is the normality of LCD displays to deteriorate, but it's fractional and unlikely you'll notice, but in reality LCD displays are still working on many vintage watches that are from the 70's... I have a solar Seiko from 1978 that's still performing, so to me it's like SEIKO are being too honest... can you really see in 7yrs time a rush to have LCD's replaced, now that's not clever and a bad choice from SEIKO :-P
With regards to mineral crystal, don't see this as a bad thing, mineral takes the shocks, and it hasn't effected the G-Shock sales, so think about that side, now, 500 is in what currency?
There are also viewers not happy about the fact it's Made in China, and this is another side to why the big deal, when their message is sent from a device that's made also in China????
If you get the chance to see one in person, then take the opportunity to really soak up all it can offer... it's a solid watch, and SEIKO have done a great re-issue job... but if you want sapphire, then these aren't expensive to buy and not rocket science to fit... the LCD lasting 14yrs has made me laugh, why not 13yrs???
You have to choose with what feels right, and if it worries you with those few things mentioned, then don't force yourself to like it.

You're really missing out over that print, and inside is Japan, and outside for that matter.
China on a higher level are incredible engineers and their structures alone are world beating... see beyond the cheap things they produce, as this is called up by the Western market, otherwise we wouldn't see crap come from them. The wage in China is cheaper than Japan's, so I would guess for an extra print of Japan' on the back case it would bring the SNJ to about £800/$700
