If it can help some future buyers I would like to share my feedback. I bought this watch 2 weeks ago. After 2 days, I tried to set the time and the crown came out completly (separated from the watch). I went back to the Seiko dealer who gave me a new one (luckily). So there is unfortumately some QC issue here and there as alas Seiko is famous for. Also one of the turn off is the Made In China, as I felt that a Made in Japan would have been "cooler". The bezel is easier to use than a SKX for instance but it does have a cheap feeling indeed. Other than that you get an iconic watch without breaking the bank, the watch wear smaller than you could expect and the fact that it's a Solar watch instead of Quartz is a plus (as you dont have to worry abt changing the battery every 2 years or so).
Seiko QC is pretty shoddy these days. Chapter rings and bezel inserts that are misaligned. Seconds hands that don’t line up with the indices. So disappointing!
All solar watches ARE quartz. The only difference is solar has a solar cell behind the dial which charges a lithium-ion battery. There is still a quartz oscillator doing the timekeeping
I just got mine today. Case back is marked Made In China but seems to be working fine for me. I honestly thought these were made in Japan. As far as I know there are no counterfit or bogus copies of this watch being made.

My SNJ028 came in yesterday and I've been wearing it ever since. Mine does have some minor QC issues but I'm not bothered by those since I've always planned to use the watch as a beater. The strap is incredibly comfortable and has just the right length IMO. Main reason I got this is because the original one in reasonably good condition is too hard/expensive to get nowadays. The backlight seems to be LED like modern G-Shocks and I like it. The power reserve indicator (heh) is also a great feature. If you're a fan of classic designs you should get this one and DO IT NOW!
I still have my original from about 1986 or so when I bought it for SCUBA diving. The band had to be replaced some time ago. Haven't had in on it in a while. I do plan on getting the reissue. Great watch that has reached the classic stage.
Good Review Bruce, got the Padi version due tomorrow! I got that iteration because i already have a sbbn031 Tuna and didn’t want another black bezel/ dial but this all black looks killer !
Thanks to you, Random Rob, and Mimo's for showing these cool re-issue Seiko Arnie's. As soon as I saw that this watch was available I put my order in with Mimo's and I've been rock'in it for the last week. It does wear very light on the wrist and the rubber strap is silky smooth to the touch and comfortable. No complaints other than I'd like to have a count-down feature included. Mimo's has some awesome deals. Well maybe not awesome but very good. Some of their Hamilton's are really a deal! Check them out. I know I will again!
I have an original Arnie and will be buying the modern version to make a set. I o my wear my Arnie when I'm in the mood to drive my coupe or a weekend ride on my Hayabusa. It's that sort of watch.
Got the black and gold to be as close to the original. *Edit: black and silver is the correct closer to the original. I misspoke* It’s easy to wear. Smaller and lighter than my baby tuna. The watch itself is fine for the price. The fact Arnold wore it makes it special imo I bought this to use while in the ocean like snorkeling so I’m fine with the hardlex.
I had that watch in the 80s, one of my all time favorite seiko watch, always love that style of the tuna look. Also i gotta say i just bought that new snj025 arnie reissued watch, and i think its even better than the original, but that's my opinion! The original was only good for 150m diving, the new one is now good for 200m., and also now is even better that is solar and more accurate than before, also the crown are locked down screws, wish makes it even more rugged and capable underwater. So far i dont have any issues with the rotating bezel it works fine to me! The original was the same way! So to me bezel is a minor complaint. I love it and im glad that seiko brought it back! I've been waiting for a long time for it! And knowing how the prices of the original is going for on ebay! It makes it a worth it bargain.

What happens if you forget to screw the button crowns back down and go swimming? Will the water penetrate the watch or are those seals more for diving?
Were all ridiculous. This has hardlex to be a better iso dive watch, but we’d rather have sapphire though it’s more prone to shattering when diving. We love authenticity and history except when it comes to crystal New Seiko 5 skx comes out and we’re mad that it’s not iso even though we only ever desk dive Can never be satisfied ... that’s why I have 15 watches ...

Just watched commando and they show a close up of the watch dial.as he is looking at it. I believe it is a Seiko but is sterile and unmarked on the dial face.
Damned hard watch to find, unless you want to get the Padi theme, had to go JDM to get one which should come Friday the 13th or latest Monday. Took a week or two of thought, as well as it being quartz, but in some situations quartz fits the bill, as in the Seiko Flightmaster and Citizen Night Hawk and Blue Angel.
I was able to pick one of these up,, it’s a cool watch,, I just wish too that they would add sapphire crystals to more of these types, but the cost will go up. I’d still buy it . Do they have a sapphire for this model to buy anywhere Bruce?
I got the SNJ028 Gold one, Love it and very happy overall PROS::: Priced ok (decent discounts off recommended retail pricing), strap is very soft and comfortable, looks great with "cool" factor and history, making me watch the old arnie movies for watch spotting purposes :) Solar movement so no battery swaps CONS::: Bezel action is noisy with cheap sounding clicks but it does work well, typical Seiko QC - my bezel doesn't line up perfectly (1/2 a click off), no countdown timer (original didn't have it but could easily have been included), the metal keeper feels cheap and tinny, would have preferred rubber keepers.
I like the new Arnie. Everything except the ridiculous oversized pushers. I don’t understand why they felt the need to change the look. It looks like Shrek

The biggest lack is the missing timer!!! What the hell is SEIKO doing on this awesome reissue!? I mean it's a watch with a digital display. And it's not only a diving watch, it's a "mission timer" too... I can't understand this....
Got mine today and noticed that. No problems with mine. I guess it depends on the QC there. I would think that Seiko would have a hand in QC there also.
Agree with BW. I have the PADI version of this watch and the quality is there. My Swiss Army Divemaster 500 with a Swiss Made label proudly displays inside the case back that the case was made in China. China, despite the boat load of cheap products that they produce, know how to machine cases and bracelets. I do not see the made in China as an issue if the QA/QC is there. I have had Swiss made and Japan made products with issues, so no country is exempt...
santiago otero yeah I’m hearing ya. I have a Seiko SARB with the same thing. But this particular watch looks plastic and with “made in China “ proudly displayed on the outside of the case makes it look like it’s from a $2 shop.
@@BruceWilliams I think that it does not matter where it was made as long as it meets Seikos QC standards which I think that they have a hand in QC in China.

The Whorologist the original seiko watch the reissue is based on. The one Arnold wore in some classic movies such as Predator.

Sounds like it has a wonky bezel spring.
This is a diver's watch but it doesn't have a depth meter. You don't need a chronograph or timer underwater but a depth meter is a must!

No it's tempered glass same stuff used in G-shock watches and 200 meter dive watches.

Yes, its nice they are up front about it, instead of hiding it like many Swiss brands
