This will likely cost as much as a new Corvette at minimum. As cool as it looks it'll be totally unattainable for the average person that wanted the MR2 to return in the first place.
@@tropixx8143 Huh? The 718 and C9 have nearly identical base prices. The Corvette has more similarities if you're looking at engine layout, and styling too. Exactly. We’ve seen that movie before. Look at the MKIV and being discontinued and even the MKV Supra regardless of the BMW platform. But I’m afraid there is no chance it will cost less than $60k.
I certainly hope they stick to the formula of the original. If I'm not mistaken, MR2 stands for Mid-engine, Rear drive, 2 seats. I'm not opposed to AWD, but it can sometimes get in the way of drifts, burnouts, and other fun.

Meh. No grace. I don't believe it, certainly not for US, and even if they did, they'd price themselves out of the market. Its never going to be a Cayman. (and I've owned 2 MR2s). Corolla 3 cyl would be much cheaper homologation, and a low price might have a chance. 2 seater sales are miniscule - makes no business sense and ain't nobody spending 70k for an MR2 over a Cayman (beyond the first year rush). The company has lost their mind with pricing of products lately and seems to be forgetting "customer first". Doesn't matter how good the products are if practically nobody can afford them - that clashes with Toyota's stated mission of "Mobility for all".
They could have took a lotus evora which already comes with a Toyota engine, and just change the badges and change out the expensive materials for cheaper stuff, and a second version without the supercharger, and sell that as a GR mr2
I think the interior might be more realistic than one would assume on the first look. The ''blue fishnet'' stuff just looks to be 3d printed and the gear selector is here 11:34 on the right side of the steering wheel. they also included a physical hazard button already according to eu regulations and since theyre probably not gonna build a lot of these i think this really might be closer to production than it seems. also having the passenger side of the dashboard be very empty is a classic toyota move for driver focused cars so i think its gonna be similar in the production version.
If Toyota can pull this off, and keep it under $70k, it’ll be a winner! A mid engine performance hybrid that is attainable, unlike what Honda did with the new NSX, and it’s $150k and up price tag.
What is most clear to me based on the BMW Supra relationship is: This is going to be a Lotus Emira with a new body. They will likely use the 3 cylinder in the base model (RWD) probably around $60-$65k. Top trim will be AWD with the supercharged V6 used in the Emira which will likely be $75k. RWD top trim will come later and they could delay manual option just to keep the model fresh over the years just like the Supra. Lmk what you think.
Actually, Toyota is investing heavily in electric cars. But not the ones right now. They want to bring out an electric next year with a solid state battery.
