    We acknowledge that the land on which we filmed is in traditional unceded Lenape territory.
    Lyrics:
    It's time to melt while others run
    I hold my hands into the sun
    Hot wax is flowing through my veins
    Humanity has gone its way
    And i dream dream dream about you
    I have no words without you
    Sometimes i wish i wasn't born
    Floating there forever more
    Its time to melt away, its time, i feel the days are numbered
    And i dont know whats inside them
    And we're together now, compelled into the ground
    i'll melt away and thats how life will begin
    We're thick as thieves i know its true
    Its time to melt its what we do
    If anything will comfort me
    Its knowing that we'll be free
    And i dream dream dream about you
    I have no words without you
    If disappearing is a game
    Sign me up and melt away
    It's time to melt away, its time, i feel the days are numbered
    And i dont know whats inside them
    And we're together now, compelled into the ground
    i'll melt away and that's how life will begin

    I like how tight the room feel on the bass and kit are. The strings add good contrasting depth along with the multi-layer vox. I remember the horns almost sounding like a funky 80's style synth. Nice touch. Hope you make it down to Miami for a gig one day. The alternative scene is small here but on the up and up considering the circumstances. Excellent production. Keep on keepin' on!

    definitely one of my favorite tracks of the year, ive been bopping to this one on my walks every day. Would love to know more about your console and how you're using it with protools/interfacing with hardware/doing the mixing : )

    • @SamEvian
      @SamEvian  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Basically in a mix context I use the console for summing and light eq. Protools outputs are normalled to the line inputs of the console. I have some hardware pieces that I use on channel inserts. Thx for listening!

    "Very smooth Dad"... laughing my ass off. Seriously though, the bass and drums immediately resonated with me, very special. Thanks for the insights into playing the tune.

    Sam! I’m loving this series.. this track is such a groove! From the rhythm section, to strings, guitars, horns, vocals, lyrics.. and that Rhodes, damn! Even though the parts weren’t recorded live at the same time, and in the same room.. I feel such a natural groove chemistry between y’all! I imagine listening to this song (and tbh any of your tracks) in 20/30+ years from now.. and that’s something! Congrats man! And love the fact you’re a Sly fan!
    Would love to see some breakdowns of your favorite songs from your past records, if possible!
    You’ve been a major inspiration through the last 5 or so months, cheers from Portugal! Hope to see you play here soon, hopefully when this pandemic is over, and your world tour starts (:

    Do you have a line out for the board and your mic going to a mixer and into the camera for the audio? I have a feeling you're not recording the audio on your cellphone, lol. I want to make track breakdown videos but want to get great sound and my iphone isn't cutting it. Thanks!

    Awesome track - how did you record the bass?

  • @PeterTheHumanBoy
    @PeterTheHumanBoy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Sam, thanks so much for sharing this! Love the song! You mentioned you track the drums to tape. How is that workflow like? Are you creating a submix first before it goes to the tascam? And what was the mic setup?

    • @SamEvian
      @SamEvian  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thx! It depends. If I am tracking a band I’ll usually submix to save room. If it’s just drums I like to stretch out. Still, I only ever use 4 or 5 drum mics. Usually dynamics on kick, snare and sometimes crotch mic, and a stereo or mono ribbon situation overhead. Sometimes if I’m feeling fancy I’ll throw a fet47 in front of the kick.

    Yo thank you for these videos! I was wondering on this song in particular what the key(s) is? I know the chords but I'm trying to understand the track a little better to help with my theory stuff. Anyone feel free to chime in haha.

    • @chrisjamesbeats
      @chrisjamesbeats ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a theory expert but it feels like D Minor to me, I'm hearing a raised 6th though so B instead of Bb, which would make it D Minor Dorian. Are you familiar with the greek modes?

    What's that SSL bus compressor lookin' thing you got at the bottom of the rack? Used it anywhere on this song?

    • @SamEvian
      @SamEvian  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s an audioscape SSL style bus company that I love. It does the thing! I may have used it on the drum bus for this mix.
