    Can't tell you how invaluable it is to learn about your process like your vocal chain, especially for us amateur artists / producers trying to figure things out. I know you said you like to usually skip over vocals, totally get it, but you def have a unique and cool thing going on. Thanks for sharing! Love the album!

    Great break down of this superbly crafted track ! Interesting perspective of Lennie Tristano’s contribution to west coast jazz, I gather due to his influence on Gerry Mulligan in the late 40s. My friend Dave Frank studied with Lennie toward the end of his life and he was a monster (as I’m sure you well know) . Anyway, enjoying your creations!! Excellent !!

    It is funny how many like, idolize and get fuzzy feelings for particular gear. They are fans of musicians and want what they have used .
    The key is to find gear that speaks to you. You want your method to inspire yourself and others. No piece of gear will make a hit or be the answer .

    Hey Sam, love your stuff. As someone who tortures themselves in the studio cringing at their own vocal I can definitely relate. Just a question on the your vocal mixing. When double tracking are both vocals at the same dB level and do you pan hard left and right or are the panned somewhere between there snd centre? Love your work mate. Come down to Aus when you get the chance!

    • @mitchellgenesse2866
      @mitchellgenesse2866 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      for myself I have tried both hard panning and middle-ish panning and I usually pan like... 60-70% R+L and if it is a true double track, usually there aren't any phase issues. Tho sometimes the hard pan can sound good too. It depends on how much sonic information you have in mid/side, I'd say play around with it and find a place where your vocal sits well in your mix, there isn't one right answer, its all situational.

    I wonder what snare that is. My snare just won’t get that tone no matter how I tune or dampen or alter the room.

    • @SamEvian
      @SamEvian  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      it’s ludwig’s cheapest snare, the supralite. i usually put a wallet on top and a tea towel underneath to dampen the snares.

      @@SamEvian amazing. Thanks so much for the quick and detailed response. I was stunned by your drum tones on this track as they are similar to the dead snare on Andy’s albums but a bit punchier. Really love your work thanks again for the breakdown.
