My dog is tiny and I cook for him every meal fresh :) No freezing. I just enjoy doing that. He eats twice a day and it takes me less than 5-10 minutes each meal. I have a 4.5 lbs chihuahua. I cook for mine because he makes a face like “I’m gonna throw up” when I feed him raw. He’s in great health, he’s white and doesn’t have tear stains for example. I give him raw bones a couple times a week. That’s the only raw part of his diet now.
Love it
Working with a lot of light colored, poodles and poodle mixes in rescue, I also found that the tear stains disappeared once they were fed raw or at least fresh, cooked (home or reputable commercial brands, human grade ingredients). There was a probiotic on the market from Purina called "Prostora" which was a white, flavored, soft tablet, very expensive that was also said to get rid of tear stains. I did use that product with my white, mini poodle to restore his flora after he had been on antibiotics. I did notice that his tear stains diminished. However, it may be that the timing was such that I was also introducing a lot more human-grade, fresh meats, raw and cooked into his diet and slowly phasing out the kibble. Kibble is made from "feed-grade" not fit for human consumption fats and meats and very high levels of feed-grade grains (rejected from the human food supply usually because of aflatoxin contamination). All in all, a toxic laden, rancid fat mess. The feed grade, oxide and sulfite forms of iron, copper, magnesium and zinc may be the simple explanation for why kibble causes tear stains-- These forms of metals are not found in real food and as such are poorly absorbed and so can reach a steady-state, mildly toxic level at all times. They would be expected to get excreted in body fluids such as tears. Interestingly, I saw a vintage photo of a movie star with a very tear-stained poodle (it was either Natalie Wood or maybe Doris Day). Anyway, commercial dog foods were the latest, greatest thing in the early 60s.
My vet has put my 11 month old border terrier on hills prescription for sensitive tummy as he has had three episodes gastric enteritis and loose stools with blood in it just seems to come on from no where should I go straight to fresh food instead of this hills kibble and try to get him of kibble also I scared I get it wrong x
@@treasuretrovel3816tear stains are caused by a natural compound found in dogs tears. It stains the area around the eye because the dog in question has one of three issues, tear ducts are two small, tear ducts are blocked or the dog was born without tear ducts. The only one of these that can be fixed is blocked tear ducts (though they usually block again) it is a physical problem that cannot be fixed by diet. Though there are literally countless products and remedies on the market that claim to be able to do so
I can’t afford organic eggs. Would free range be ok please 🙏
So glad I found you. My poor 10 year old jrt suffers with allergies. I tried him on raw a few years ago but I was buying on line but he got fed up with it. I've been cooking food for him and he's liking it. I just downloaded your free recipe book. WOW he'll be eating like a king from now on. Thank you so much for sharing.
Any improvements yet?!
you are so cool 😊
Thank you Cam very informative really enjoyed watching just really glad I found a British gu
Glad I could help. Cam
I throw chicken thighs, beef liver, sweet potatoes, green beans, peas, carrots and corn in a crock pot... add rice an hour before it's done. My dog loves it. I mix a cup of that and a cup of kibble and he's healthy as ever.
Good day Cam, thank you for the info on Yora. Kindly may i have a recipe for my Husky as Chicken & pizza contributed to the culprit of his allergies causing Colitis & itching skin/ ear infections.
Hills Z/D isnt satisfying 😢
Hi, you may check our Hypoallergenic Health Plan. Here's the link: www.thedognutritionist.com/products/health-plan
Thank you so much for your videos, I was wondering how many times a week we should feed a complete recipe and how many times a more simple one. It would be nice to have examples of simple recipes.
@moomshine9836, he answers those questions (and includes example of simple recipe) in his free guide. Hope this helps.
Thankyou so much for our videos , I already feed my dogs on a raw food it’s frozen from natures menus but worry that is completely balanced
Thank you for your channel!
Just saw one of your videos with broccoli so of course had to try it on their salmon kibble - they devoured it - like not even a bit of broccoli tree left in any of their dishes. Thank you!
The eggshells and seeds need to be ground into a powder to avoid intestinal blockage. Use a clean coffee been grinder to do this. Also ground bone meal has calcium phosphorous which eggshells lack. Don't forget the omega 3 and 6 salmon oil and kelp powder
For those that are thinking of this, eggshells will scratch the plastic on a clear food processor carafe. It will forever more be a CLOUDY food processor carafe.
The vitamin D form in the mushrooms is D2 and not D3. Not sure if carnivores are efficient or even make the enzymes necessary to convert plant D to usable D3. Carnivores are designed to eat at the top of the food chain-- Prey. So, they need D3 from animal sources like liver, fatty fish, egg yolk and several other D3 rich animal products. Most people also think that carnivores can convert B-carotene to active vitamin A. On the contrary, they need to eat retinol/retinoic acid, the active form of vitamin A. B-carotene is healthy for other reasons but please don't neglect feeding dogs active A and D.
Note about eggshells in the USA: Commercially sold eggs are apparently treated with an anti-bacteria coating and so must be scrubbed before feeding to your dog. Or, get eggs from your local farmer's market.
Hense there being egg in the recipe with the advice of using organic
Sure, the egg yolk has some vitamin D. My point is that nobody should be misled in thinking that mushrooms supply vitamin D in significant amounts to canids. Just clarifying that. FYI best source of vitamin D is Sockeye salmon-- Needs to be fed cooked to dogs because of Pacific parasite. Next best source is Mackerel and other fatty fish. @@calador1918
@@calador1918 I havent seen anything in USDA organics requirements that prohibit an anti bacterial coating on an egg.
I tried button mushrooms once. one of my dogs threw up. Not sure if it was the mushrooms but I also began to worry that they might develop a taste for them and eat the ones that pop up in the yard. I don't think teaching a dog that mushrooms are food is wise if the dog has un supervised outdoor time. I'll stick with your suggestions. Thanks
@@flyingsodwai1382 Good point. Eggs at the supermarket must have some type of coating since the coating from the hen's body is washed off (eggs at the supermarket are, of course, washed). If the eggs are washed then they must be recoated. We know when an egg is washed because the unwashed ones are dirty looking-- Mud and droppings
Thank you!
I cook all my dogs food but if I put a few peas in his dish he will leave each and every one of them and he hates rice. If he wants a bit of kibble I must never mix it with his wet food. He won’t eat any of it! It makes me laugh to think dogs have the same pernickety habits as we do 😂
One of my divas does the same with peas , now I put in riced cauliflower instead and she eats it all. 😅
My dog doesn’t like rice either but she doesn’t like vegetables either or fruit she’s such a tough dog to feed she really just likes meat loves chicken that’s for sure just so picky 😂
That's great! It prolly means he's never been starving.
I wanted to reply to the comment on eggshells lacking calcium phosphorous, but YT won't let me reply to the comment - I've been doing lots of research/reading comparing raw & home-cooked diets, and the topic of calcium is obviously an important one.
Eggshells, on the whole contain, 40% calcium CARBONATE - a very potent source of calcium. Calcium is an essential supplement to add if you home cook for your dog. Boneless protein/meat in their diet has higher levels of PHOSPHORUS and therefore calcium needs to be added to balance the calcium/phosphorus levels.
So the comment about eggshells lacking calcium phosphorus shouldn't cause concern to worried pet parents as the boneless meat/protein is already providing high levels of phosphorus that eggshells lack
Please simplify what you’re saying. I cook boneless chicken
breasts. That’s their main meat. Do they need ground eggshells or not? Thank you
Great video, how many days will this last for your dog?
I've really enjoyed learning from you. However, I've trie 3 times to sign up for your newsletter to receive the "free guide" and have yet to get that. I did receive an email with a link to BUY a recipe book though.

Is coconut oil an okay replacement for the MCT oil?
Yes
This is all so confusing but at the same time makes sense. My lab has had constant vet visits for yeast/skin ear infections. He's 15 months old. All I get told environmental allergies. No idea if it's food allergies or anything. Medicine after medicine injections, shampoos. Thousands later now they want to change his food again 3rd time to a very expensive script food. I started with cooking his food and the vet told me to stop. I have gone back to giving him a raw chicken foot 2 times a week. It breaks my heart He's never had a puppy faze outside ripping things apart. No energy, high anxiety, constantly wanting "demand barking " at his dish to eat due to prednisone. I'm over these medications want to try other things to help with the yeast that is affordable.
Hey Julie, we can get this sorted with a simple but specific diet. It's the gut that's playing up, and the diet must be addressed if the issue is to be resolved. If you email me help@thedognutritionist.com
Hi, I had a miniature poodle female who had all kinds of allergic problems from the time I got her from a reputable breeder at age 8 weeks. I want to tell you about this in case it might relate to your pups problems and help you solve them. Like you, I found that the veterinarians were unable to help with their meds and Rx, crappy foods. Cam is correct that the gut has to be healed with species appropriate diet and then all will be well. I was able to solve all my pup's problems by mapping out her food allergies. She came to me with serious Giardia and was put on a series of meds to clear it (it seemed resistant to the first two rounds of meds). For clearing Giardia or Coccidia, it requires strong meds and diligent, immediate cleanup of poop and sanitation of the area in addition to cleaning pup's hinny so that he does not reinfect himself.
My pup was on a chicken based kibble from the breeder. Don't know if it was the Giardia irritation or irritation from the medications or both that made her gut irritated and leaky and so set the stage for her severe chicken allergy. She had flaky skin, anal gland problems, ear problems etc. all due to chicken and probably other proteins igniting an allergy response. One thing I tried was to put her on a hydrolyzed, Rx canned food temporarily and then added specific proteins back as a test. The hydrolyzed food has all the protein broken down into small peptides that are too small to elicit an allergic reaction inside the GI tract or systemically as a serum IgG response from protein fragments leaking from the gut. A better approach would probably have been to get her on raw as soon a possible. Raw proteins are pure and not crosslinked by cooking so break down easier and more completely so less likely to keep irritating the gut. Once the gut is healed, it will not be so irritable. This turned out to be the case for my dog for beef and eggs but she could never have chicken. As long as I fed her primarily raw and no chicken, she lived a very healthy life with a great coat and skin and no anal gland problems.
Early on, I also went to a Middle Eastern market and bought goat meat (on the bone) and would slow cook the meaty bones in water on the stove, take all the meat off and use the broth (that turned into gelatin) as an elixir for her. I picked goat as the most unique protein. As a pup, you need to balance calcium and phosphorus and add vitamins. Cam can advise you on that. The goat meat and bone broth healed her GI tract and got her back to health as I read and learned about raw food.
Glad you are on this channel and being the advocate for your dog vs. just going down the Rx path of prednisone and dangerous, veterinary food.
@@thedognutritionist hi. Stupid question- why does one have to " mince" all the meat etc ¿ vs having slight "chunky " meat??
First, get a new veterinarian, or at least take your dog to a specialty hospital. Get an appointment with the veterinary dermatologist and have them do the patch test, where they actually test for dozens of allergens with a little patch on their side. I did this with my dog and the dermatologist found everything she was allergic to including food, environmental, and contact allergies. I went from there and always read labels finally finding the few foods she could eat. Later I began cooking toppers, and adding them to her commercial foods and finally began just cooking her entire meal. I consulted with the veterinary nutritionists at the local veterinary teaching hospital to ensure she was getting adequate nutrition. From the first visit to the specialist though, she was like a new dog. Take your pooch to a specialist soon!
Give him Purina probiotics. He might get allergic from chicken
My dog can’t eat either
Try throwing the seeds and shell into the vegetables and grind them up at the same time.
They wont get powdery I don't think. Prolly better to grind separate so you can tell how fine they have gotten.
Hi, I have a question...my yorkie/terrier has kidney disease and pancreatiis. She is currently on Royal Canine. I am shocked about this food that I have been feeding my girl. She is currently getting 8 hours of fluids plus meds, I would love to make her dog food...what can I cook?
Hi Larry, if you go onto my website and get the kidney support plan. Choose low fat meats that work for your dog, and that will be the best thing for her. Cam
Amazing! How often can I switch up the protein in the cooked meals? Also if I feed raw can I just feed cooked here and there without any negative effects?
Hello! Well, you have flexibility in switching up the protein in cooked meals as often as you'd like but always monitor your dog to ensure they adjust well to any changes.
It looks yummy. What low burning oil did you use ? How do you supply iodine ?Don’t you use light salt with iodine, just a little bit of course ? @TheDogNutritionist
Thank you for sharing this recipe, where can I find ingredients list? Xx
how about writing it down while watching the video?
Hi, it's my first time to watch your video. Thank you so much for your recipes! I have a question. What do you recommend for a healthy diet for dogs? raw food, cooked food or mix ?
I love dogs so much. Mine died 4 months ago when she was 13.5 years old, I was heartbroken. I have just got a puppy last week, she's almost 3 months old. I'm thinking what I can do to expend her lifespan at least died naturally instead of having cancer..
How much of this to feed my 13pound dog?
My yorkie recently suffered from pancreatitis and HGE. She has a very sensitive gut, do you think the egg shells and seeds be too tough for her?
Hi there! Well, it might be too tough for her sensitive gut. Opt for softer, easily digestible foods.
What oil can I substitute for MCT???
Hello, you can substitute Olive or Coconut oil.
This alright for puppies
I have been making my dog's food and I add sweet potatoes and organic brown rice for a little carb. Is that bad? The recipe is supposedly vet approved. There are so many videos on homemade dog food. Also, I cook it all in an instant pot, is that okay? I use a 50% protein, 25% veggies and 25% carbs. I use all organic and I do add eggshells, flax, turmeric.
Do you have this recipe actually written out? What’s the seeds and how much?
Hi there! You can check out my Ultimate Guide. Here's the link: www.thedognutritionist.com/products/the-ultimate-homemade-dog-and-puppy-food-recipe-book
Maybe in Europe odd body parts are easy to find, not in America. And the farther south west you go the harder it is. I have a hard time getting my hands on ground pork, let alone a heart from an animal. Chix gizzards and hearts and chicken livers is about the best. Maybe the more hispanic stores may have a couple more items, but if
Its too "weird" you wont find it. It seems if people will get too grossed out shopping they dont carry it. For instance, I heard America is the one country that eats the least amount of goat. That it is very " normal" around the rest of the world. Not sure if that is true or not, but You most certainly wont find it in a restaurant or grocery store.
Can any of these foods be put together and then baked in the oven in broth. Just asking. Instead of using a processor.
I've bought the Dachshund guide, just a quick question...for ground meat (like pork, beef, etc.) what fat percentage should we aim for?? The packets tend to range from 5%-20% fat. Cheers!
Some dogs can be more fat sensitive than others. A solid middle of 10% for most dogs, 20% is fine for dogs that burn lots of calories and are good on fattier diets. Fat sensitive dogs 5-10%
@@thedognutritionist thank you!! Can't wait for our pup Artoo to try her new meals!
Is it too much protein? In so many places it says 1gr of protein per pound of dog a day and if I have a large dog, your recipe would excess protein intake. How does it work?
I dont eat that well 😅
ok just made with fish, can I give this every day or does it have to be raw mixed with the cooked please?
I've started cooking for my Spaniel as the vet says she is allergic to chicken. Do you have recipes for complete food with beef, lamb or pork?
Yes, check my channel!
Hi cam, do u have recipe for pork? I don't see it on ur channel
How long should mushrooms be cooked before they are safe?
Hello, so glad I found this channel. My little Bichon Frise, Toto has crystal stones in his bladder. My vet said the only option is Hills dry food prescription. I know he probably won’t like it, because he’s very finicky. I’m trying to research to see if I can make him homemade food to cure him. He has quite the personality, I’d like him to heal so he can be sanguine again. ☺️🤍
Look up Dr Judy Morgan. She has lots of help for these kind of issues.
Can you show recipes for dogs with renal issues?
Yes, please!!
how many meals does the above recipe feed?
Can this recipe be served raw as well?
Would I make this recipe for a 7 pound, 11 year old chihuahua with dry skin and gets ear infections and not very active? I feed her about 1/4 cup per meal so is the ratios good for her?
How do you know how much to give yr dog
Can you show the ingredient list? what type of oil and seeds?
He said pumpkin seeds.. and the oil bottle says "extra virgin hempseed oil".
Is there any other good sources of calcium that i can easily add to my dogs cooked food? Is there any other key things i need to add other than the meat and veg? Like essential vitamins etc?
how long do you cook the shitake mushrooms?
I have just under 6kg miniature dacshund, how much would I give him of this also what are the seeds
Hi I am new to the channel. Do you also do RAw food diet? Thanks
Any suggestions for a diabetic dog. He gets insulin 2 xs a day. I have been preparing his food because that expensive dog food the vet wanted me to use he won't eat also it was to large for his mouth. He's had intensive dental work. Thanks for the videos.
Totally confused, l d'not have ingredients time or facility to make this meal, therefore l ask him what packaged fd dog food does he recommend.

Hi. I just started cooking for my mastiff. He is 135lbs. He has a ton of allergies. He has been tested and he has alot of environmental and also chicken, lamb, flax, rice, (and few more) My question is I been being told to try cooking chicken and see how he does. Would you agree?
there are other domestic birds to consider. you can see if there is a local farm that sells quails, pigeons, turkey, etc.
Can I use Turkey and boil Turkey mince meat?
I wonder if it's possible to use raw ground bones (chicken wings) as a topper just before feeding on his cooked food, instead of eggs?
My pup has been having watery stool with raw diet, even with pre and probiotics, pumpkin, etc. Is it that raw diet is not suitable for every dog??
He doesn't have urgency to poop. It's just as normal of a routine, morning and evening, but when he does, it's either soft serve or watery. He's a 20mth old retriever.
I see you included raw egg, egg for dog have to be cooked, because raw egg white contains Avidine that destroy Biotine wich is necessary for Vitamine B, if you want to include raw egg yoke good but still have to make sure the white is all cooked
I have also seen that on Dr Janet Becker, DVM video on eggs for dogs. I started poaching the egg, and my dog laps it up. The only problem is on those days, he gets diarrhea. I am going to have to isolate to make sure that's what it is. Shame if I can't feed him eggs, especially when he lives them.
I do understand the percentages of each family ingredient but I don't get is how tyou calculate that per your dog's weight and daily requirements? How do you calculate how much of this recipe you need to give to your dog per meal (2x a day) ?
Use the Ultimate homemade dog food handbook.
I can't even afford to eat like this...
For kidney disease
We have that video, also a nutrition guide on my website. Cam
Any suggestions for an egg substitution? (my dog has an allergy)
Wonder if duck eggs would work. I have a friend who is allergic to chicken eggs but not duck eggs. Might give it a try.
Cam one question
I feed my dog twice in 7 am and 3-7 pm
Amount o cooked food toto eats its 1050g so im not sure i need to feed every meal 1050g or recipe its for 24 hours?
The amount of food depend on your dog body weight. +/- 2.5% x body weight. Protein, Carbo an some fiber included. Better feed them 2 times a day.
My Goldendoodle is pregnant . Is there anything I should add to her raw food that's not discussed in your recipes?
Could use this same recipe and leave it raw?
Only things I won’t added row egg’s to avoid Somalia.
Can I give my dog flaxseed oil,
My 16 year old Maltese is very allergic to chicken. Do you have a cooked recipe for her?
try other bird meats as substitute?
Substitute with turkey or fish
If I show this recipe to my husband he will cook it alright… for himself!!😅 He will say that the dogs eat better than him.
If your dog has sensitive gut, maybe don't feed too much organs at one go. It can be too rich
Where can we find your supplement? I looked on your website and there was only two gut supplements.
i thought seeds were bad for dogs cuz of the cyanide in them?
That's for fruit seeds eg apple , peach etc
My dog can’t eat boiled chicken he has allergic to chicken. He vomited chicken
Use another meat, any.
What about cat food
Why add fruits and vegetables? Aren’t dogs strictly carnivore? Genuine question.
Omnivores
Dogs in the wild forage so they will eat varied foods available to them
Exactly. They don’t just eat meat. They eat raw meat tho. My dogs eat raw. Dogs need some fat for their coats. Just imagine a dog eating another animal, plus the contents of its stomach.
Why cooked please? I thought you preferred raw for the enzymes that cooking destroys?
Most likely just a recipe for the people who aren’t keen on raw, but still want to feed natural food
He is giving you a choice
He said to kill off the bacteria by cooking the meat
Cooking does denature enzymes, the fact is though that this does not affect the dogs ability to digest or cause any type of deficiency. Dogs bodies create their own enzymes
Can you add organ meats?
The only problem that bothers me is a place to wash your hands Between handling the meat and then the veggies that are cut up on the same bloody cutting board And then touching the Tupperware and stuff after that… It just kind of grosses me out lol
…it’s cooked
So cut the veggies first, then the meat. No need to wash the board in that order.. 😒
I'm sure the dogs won't mind😊
Chicken 🐔 not good for dog allergies
I have plenty of hypoallergenic recipes in my health plan here: www.thedognutritionist.com/products/health-plan
Can you not just add a supplement that contains the calcium and magnesium etc that they need?
Why feed an unregulated chemical substance rather than a natural source
Yeah my dog won't eat it😊😊
There are those who could not afford such meals.
Skip on the egg shell...that's just odd
Don't skip the egg shells it's literally the only source of calcium in the recipe. Unless you want a calcium deficiency
Way too confusing? You dont state amounts what oil how long to cook? I would rather buy dog food!!! There is no list if ingredients. Seeds are very dangerous you dont stipulate that they should be totally blended. Where is the fruits???
Seeds aren't dangerous
Everything you said is absolute nonsense except that you prefer to buy commercial crap. Of course you do, you're too ignorant to know any better and too stupid to learn
He wants you to buy his e recipe book and his supplements.
