    Little correction by a swiss:
    1. SBB has a free WIFI for 1st and 2nd Class
    2. 1st Class usually has Plugs but only in Inter City Trains and you have quite compartements
    3. The snow line can fall under 1000m even in summer
    4. Yes, Switzerland is sadly overrun by tourists
    5. Check-out times are usually same as in Europe (Check-out around noon and check-in araound 1600) - worked for years in hotels in and around zurich
    6. Migros is less expensive than Coop
    7. Get a half tax from SBB. You save 50% on every fair and its araound 150 CHF. If they didnt change it, you can even give it back when you leave the country and get back some of the money.
Thanks for visiting our little country and hopefully see u soon again, Paddy!

i know i‘ve already written this under one of your last videos, but if somebody reads this who‘s planning to come to switzerland, here‘s a little advice, if you want to avoid the tourist crowds:
So yes as Paddy said it‘s very crowded with tourists at some places, especially at the spots you see on social media like Grindelwald, Zermatt, Jungfraujoch etc. It IS indeed very beautiful there but switzerland has many many other spots to offer, which are BY FAR less crowded (you‘re mostly alone or with other locals) and also far less expensive. Just do some research and i think you‘ll find some great places/hikes etc to visit. Here‘s a few examples:
    - Tierfehd-Kalktrittli, Glarus (beautiful scenery, no people)
    - 5-lakes-hike, Pizol
    - Weissenberge, Glarus (hiking, restaurants, sledding in winter)
    - Weesen, Glarus
As I said there are many others! ;)

Paddy, your complaint about the noises and crowd comes from staying in the 2 main touristic hubs (Interlaken and Zermatt), especially before the summer peak season when a lot of work is done. But even in these places, crowds disappear when you start hiking. I experienced that last month hiking from Wengen to Grindelwald. Most places in Switzerland are very peaceful and quiet all year long. It is like picking Mykonos or Santorini and drawing conclusions that Greece is so or so....

I visited Switzerland in the middle of October 2019. It was not so crowded. I spent 6,356 THB per day with a Swiss Travel Pass. Staying for 7 days and 7 nights cost me 44,494 THB. My itinerary included Zurich, Zermatt, Montreux, Interlaken, and Lucerne.

I've been going through some tough times for the past few months, but every week your videos make me forget my own troubles. I felt as if I went on a whole Swiss adventure with you. Thank you for working so hard and making spectacular videos.

I feel like a lot of similarities with my home - Yukon Canada and Switzerland. The big difference is here in Yukon the infrastructure isn't so built up. You get that true wilderness feel and much much much less people, shockingly less people in fact lol. Great series, I enjoyed watching all the ups and downs

    • @Slithermotion
      @Slithermotion 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Wasn‘t there a documentary that canada hired swiss people to develope mountain tourism in canada?
Johnny harris made something like that if I‘m correct.
But yes, switzerland is more of a disney experience then true wilderness which maybe makes it more appealling to tourists who want vacation in the mountains but with all the benefits of developed infrastructure.
On the otherhand there are people who want to hike 2 days without meeting a soul.

Great travel series about Switzerland. Just for those curious about travel costs to those who reside in Switzerland for a longer time: GA Travel card with monthly bill here costs 340 CHF per month and allows as much travel as needed on (almost) any train, ship or gondola in Switzerland (Few specific routes such as Jungfraujoch are not included though).

the construction sites here are every summer. I don't know for a fact but I think they do all the constructions in the warm months (spring until fall) because in winter it would cost too much (dark, cold etc.). Because usually you barely see any construction sites in Switzerland in the winter months. It's kinda annoying, though.

I love how you share the good and the bad. Real life. And good information.
Crazy to hear about all the construction going on. Shows how great your editing is.
I love that you share the reality. Most big places have the same issues. Pickpockets. Always best to carry your bag and valuables in the front.
Great information reference booking. And you are old so can not stay everywhere. 😆🤣
The check-in and out times are shocking.
I went away and rented a caravan recently. 5 days.

I can't tell you how many times I have been stuck in construction in the States when I have been out and about on road trips.... And by 'stuck' I mean sitting in my car for 30+ minutes because a mountain road was being worked on so there was only one lane of traffic at a time.... summer means construction, that's for sure!

It's easy to spend a fortune on groceries while shopping at a Thai supermarket though. Especially if you go to Villa Market or Tops and purchase mostly imported groceries, some of the prices are outrageous. I've spent 3500-4000 Baht in one go and didn't even purchase that much. Was mostly consumed within 3 or 4 days! Thailand isn't always as cheap as people make it out to be, while Switzerland can sometimes net you some bargains here and there too!

This is the so-called phenomenon of enrosadira (Ladin: "become pink"), which is caused by the special composition of calcium and magnesium carbonate. A big way to cut down on expenses is to try to book a number of days at one place so that you aren't paying cleaning fees and booking fees everyday. Having a travel partner means that you will be able to rent a room or whole place for the same or less than you would pay for a hostel.
If you are renting a car, don't bother with the travel pass (unless you plan to do a lot of gondolas).

I travel to the alps every year on my motorcycle adventures.
TOP TIP: start your alp’s adventure between 8th and 10th June . All the passes are open, most snow is gone, accommodation is cheaper. For example this June I stayed in the dolomites, found a hotel right on the Dolomites loop (riding road) for £99 for 4 people bed breakfast and evening meal ( yes all for of us for £99) this was booked last minute on the day.

The biggest problem when travelling outside Thailand when you've been working here and earning Thai baht is the currency. Thai baht just doesn't hold the value when visiting the USA or Europe. Also, not sure where you're planning to go in South America but if you're considering Ecuador I've been a couple times recently and have a lot of thoughts. I highly recommend it as a destination but there are a TON of potential pitfalls in an otherwise amazing country and I'd be happy to share some tips. Galapagos is super unique, highly recommend. Baños is amazing, both in nature and crazy (and very cheap) activities. Otavalo, the Amazon, Cuenca, the volcanoes - really an amazing amount of things to see and do in a tiny country!

August is probably not a good time to go there, I would imagine. All of the people from my company's office in Italy are on vacation most of this month. It's like that every August.

Nice idea of going to Switzerland but i think this is only for the select few who are on 6 figure salaries, no chance a backpacker could afford this lol. Were in the mist of a cost of living crisis where sadly the majority of people will lose there houses in the next few months once there mortgage ends and get put on a high rate. Will be a tough sell this one Paddy.

Great Video, Lol no where is more expansive than traveling in America. There are no cheap flights, hotels or transportation here. If you can find one the cheapest room would be around $65 USD, on average $135 USD per night. That's what we call a cheap room. Street food, only if your in a big city and not much choice and a meal will cost you $8-$12 USD. Outside the city no street food anywhere. Public Transportation again limited to mainly large cities only 4 or 5 cites in total here in the US have a transit system and the rest have buses. But they do not leave the city. It's only for local travel. Travel in some countries is outrageous for no good reason. Swiss Alps, Paris, America, Singapore just greedy.

Then have fun in South Tyrol. Bolzano is the capital of South Tyrol. Did you know that about 70 percent of South Tyroleans speak German? South Tyrol was not always part of Italy, because most of the time it belonged to Austria. In 1920, South Tyrol was annexed by the Kingdom of Italy. From then on, the majority German-speaking South Tyrol formed Italy's northernmost border region.

I got to know Switzerland reasonably well at the turn of this century, so 24-23 years ago.
I was shocked at the concrete, industrialisation, hookers and cocaine and insane nightlife.
I presumed it was all Mary Poppins, chocolate milk, b&w cows on mountain pastures....

I've been travelling to the Bernese Oberland area for over 20 years. The number of tourists seems to have grown exponentially over that period and I think that has resulted in much of the building works to upgrade the infrastructure. As you say helicopters are just part of the way of life in mountainous areas, needed to keep everything running smoothly with deliveries etc

Buy the Swiss Travel Pass guys, seriously. Most of these train were free PLUS you can take as many as you want. There are small certain sections you have to pay but its discounted and some of the major attractions are covered. Two of the most glorious train journeys in the world are covered (Bernese express and Glacier express, Could have used that to go into Italy too) Most of the jouneys to the major mountain tops are free or 25%/50% off. Its a no brainer. From the Airport in Basel or Zurich alllll the way to Zermatt. Free. You will save hundreds/thousands. AS paddy says 250 francs to the Jungfrau. You save £80/$100 dollare with the SRP!!
I didnt go for many years for the exact reasons Paddy says 'Tooooooo expensive' but its not. I mean if youre an 18 year old backpacker wanting 8 dollar rooms like in SE asia. Forget it but its not THAT expensive and worth every penny. Great series Paddy.
